We have classified the 113 complaints from 2010 Buick Enclave about STEERING into the following categories.
2010 buick enclave. consumer writes in regards to vehicle power steering problems. *smd the consumer stated as his was driving, the steering locked up while maneuvering in a shopping parking lot. the dealer gave the consumer an estimate of $1200.00 to replace the power steering pump and rack and pinion. the consumer went to a repair shop and had the repairs done for $861.55. soon afterwards, the consumer received a recall notice, which stated he would be reimbursed since the repairs had been done. gm only reimbursed the consumer $258.43 of the $861.55 repair. *jb
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 buick enclave. the contact stated while driving 10 mph, the power steering failed and the steering wheel became difficult to maneuver. the contact had to apply force to the brake pedal in order to control the vehicle. none of the warning lights on the instrument panel illuminated when the failure occurred. the contact engaged the accelerator pedal and the power steering began to function normally. the manufacturer was notified of the defect. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic. the technician diagnosed that the power steering pump needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure and current mileage were 40,200.
My 2010 buick enclave, with 60,000 miles lost power steering while i was traveling on the highway. the steering basically locked up, i had great difficulty getting the vehicle off on an exit, so that i could call for help. i had to be towed to a dealer. i was told that the there had been a leak in the rack and pinion assembly leading to pump failure and gear damage, their estimate to fix: $1800. i was also told by the service department at the dealer that the engine motor mounts are loose, the engine physically moves about 6 inches when the accelerator is pushed. *tr
The power steering on my 2010 buick enclave stopped working slowly. i was almost unable to turn the steering wheel at all. not only was the power steering a problem, but the "service airbag" light had been on for a couple of months. i took the car to a local dealership's service dept & told the service rep that my power steering was not working. i also asked the airbag recall be done on my car. the service rep advised me there were 2 recalls required, but the second if the 2 required she order parts. i left the car, a diagnostic was done ($119.50) & i was told the power steering pump & steering rack would cost approximately $2,000. i had the car towed to a repair shop i have used for years and who i trust. this repair shop replaced the power steering pump, cleaned metal out of the system & filled the system in power steering fluid ($724.00). i picked the car up & it seemed ok. within a couple of days, the power steering failed again. this time the car had dumped power steering fluid. i had the car towed back to the same repair shop. they repaired the burst line & i picked up the car, which drove as it had before the problems began. i parked my car in my driveway with the front of the car below the rear of the car on a downward incline. the next morning, the car would not start. i called aaa and paid $90 to have the car towed again. the car was towed on a flatbed and when it arrived at the shop, it started immediately. i told the repair shop rep to park the car as i had, on an incline with the front lowered, overnight. he did & it would not start the next morning. he told me he rolled the car off of the incline & it started promptly. he suggested i take the car back to the dealer for the 2nd recall. i picked the car up and drove it for 2 days. it sounded bad, the steering stuck & the steering started making loud grinding noises & it smelled like something burning. *js
Power steering defect causing safety issue. vehicle has 75000 miles on it and power steering locks becomes unresponsive, dealer indicates that pump and rack need to be replaced and that it is normal for these parts to wear out at this number of miles. this is a safety issue and should become a recall by gm. *tr
The power steering will work for about the first 3 minutes of getting into the car and then it will go out everytime i am below 20 mph. i live in the mountains and won't even let my wife drive the vehicle because i am concerned for her safety. also, my a/c and heat just went out in my car. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 buick enclave. the contact stated that the steering wheel seized. the vehicle was taken to the dealer, who diagnosed that the steering pump needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 108,000. updated 09/16/14*lj the consumer stated that it was very difficult to make turns at low speeds and difficult to park. updated 1/15/15 *js
I was driving from utah to northern california. i was coming out of bridgeport, ca, going over sonora pass, which winds through the mountains. at several sharp turns the power steering just quit and i had to tug on the steering wheel to keep in my lane. i have experienced this before making sharp turns in parking lots and also exiting my driveway. this incedent in the mountains has left me very worried. i will be seeing my gmc dealer this coming week to look into the issue. i feel this defect could very well kill someone someday as it's just a matter of time. i hope no one dies before it is resolved. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 buick enclave. the contact stated that while driving approximately 20 mph, the power steering failed intermittently without warnings. the vehicle would become increasingly difficult to maneuver. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the power steering needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure and current mileage was 53,000. updated 8/11/14*cn updated 08/21/2014 *js
Power steering goes out at low speeds, very hard to turn. dealer says we need new power steering pump & rack, as both are leaking. not covered under warranty. *tr
i noticed this problem back in may and it has been more noticeable and bothersome lately. it is hard to make turns in my buick enclave when turning at slow speeds (25 mph). it is also very hard to turn and park or back out and turn. that really scares me because you have to really fight with it. it is as if there is no power steering yet it has power steering fluid. i think this is very dangerous as i have come very close to hitting someone while turning because the steering was hard to turn at that moment but once going straight it was fine. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 buick regal. while driving between 5 to 50 mph, the vehicle veered left and the steering wheel seized without warning. the failure recurred numerous times. the vehicle was taken to a mechanic who stated that the pump and rack and pinion needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. after the repair was performed, the contact received a letter from buick about the power steering pump condition. the contact notified the manufacturer and mailed a reimbursement form. the contact received a partial special coverage reimbursement. the failure mileage was unknown.
I was driving from idaho to laurel montana. i was coming out of bozeman montana, going over bozeman pass, which winds through the mountains. i was passing a car at about 70. after i had passed the car i tried turning back into the lane but the steering wheel froze up. i pulled the steering wheel very hard to the right and it broke free, which caused me to over correct to some degree and almost went into the ditch. the steering is no longer functional and the car only has 54000 miles on it. this defect will kill someone someday. it's just a matter of time. gm is aware of the issue. there is a class action lawsuit now in process. i hope no one dies before it is resolved. *tr
2010 certified preowned buick enclave with 56k miles. has had numerous occasions of intermittent loss of power steering at low speeds. examples are pulling into my garage, entering and exiting parking lots and garages. i took to dealer today and they say there is not code, they cannot reproduce, and they are unaware of this problem. i find that difficult to believe with multiple nhtsb complaints and a class action lawsuit regarding this specific issue. there is no way my wife would be able to overcome the loss of power steering in this vehicle and it could easily result in an accident if failure occurs while exiting a parking lot onto a street. *tr
Since the mileage on the car exceeded 60,000, the power steering gives out intermittently. it is most prevalent pulling into parking spaces or when changing from drive to reverse and at low speeds. it has given out at higher speeds on the highway when exiting the highway and when making moving turns. the power steering was replaced by the dealer on july 1 with 67,000 miles on the car, yet the problem is still present with no change at all in performance. *tr
Power steering goes out at slow speed turns. power steering pump failed and cost $900.00. *tr
At low speeds, the steering assist freezes the steering momentarily so that the driver loses control of the vehicle while driving. steering fluid reservoir has been confirmed full, no leaks. issue was intermittent, and now occurring more frequently. *tr
Power steering failed while trying to pull into a parking spot between two cars in a parking lot. i was making a right turn. *tr
This vehicle has had issues since purchased with brakes and power steering i contacted buick and the dealer where vehicle was purchased and as of 9/8/2014 the brakes were the only ones fixed but power steering still and issue i have contacted buick four times since march and they still have not done anything to help me and fix this problem they are claiming that it is a workmanship issue and not a manufacturer issue based on vehicle history this vehicle is very clean and no accidents but i am starting to doubt that because power steering gets hard at about 15 to 35 miles and also at 45 to 55 when exiting a highway bramp very dangerous vehicle to drive around i would not recommend buick enclaves to anyone because buick or dealers give you the run around when you let them know about issue... *tr
When driving this vehicle it has randomly started to loose power steering at lower speeds when turning into parking spots or making u turns and pulling into on coming traffic which is a major safety hazard. i've googled this and there are thousands of complaints with this happening not only with the enclave but the acadia and the traverse as well. *tr
While moving at low speed in parking lot and making left and right turns the steering would bind up like the engine died. it is a momentary problem that originally started around 35000 miles but is getting progressively worst. *tr
We purchased this model in march 2013 and the rack and pinion had already been replaced at an unknown time before we bought it. now i am having a zip zip/rubbing sound in the steering wheel when i turn left or right. i am also having to turn my wheel more and more to make a turn, left or right. the dealership said i needed a new steering column because the bushing are worn and you can not just replace them alone. this is an on going issue with many enclaves for various years from what i understand. this issue needs to be addressed. *tr
Steering locks up and low rpm, as if power steering "dies" and wheels are extremely hard to turn upon deceleration and/or low speed. *tr
Noticed at low speeds that the steering is locking up while trying to turn. almost impossible to make the turn, like power steering is completely gone. have had trouble turning into my driveway...we live on a main road that has a 50 mph speed limit...twice i had the steering lock up as i started the turn across the lanes into my driveway. thank goodness no one was coming. several times now we have experienced this lock up while trying to park or turn through a parking lot. only seeing this happen at low speeds. nervous to let my 17 year old drive this vehicle now and especially after reading all of the comments about so many of the gm vehicles having the exact same issue. we purchased this vehicle in 2013 with around 73k miles. the first 5-6 months no issues, now seeing this issue. gm should issue the recall! *tr
I was stopped on a main road and turning left onto a side street. as i turned the steering wheel and accelerated my steering wheel locked up. i am not certain if the wheel is "locking" or if it feels that way because the power steering unit, or something within the steering unit, is malfunctioning intermittently. i told my wife about it and she told me she was glad i experienced it because it's been happening to her with regularity. *tr
I noticed this problem back in january and it has been more noticeable and bothersome lately. it is hard to make turns in my buick enclave when turning at slow speeds (25 mph or less). it is also very hard to turn and park or back out and turn. that really scares me because you have to really fight with it. it is as if there is no power steering yet it has power steering fluid. i have taken my car in for two other recalls and was told it was the power steering pump, or it could be other parts related to the power steering. this could be a very dangerous situation hopefully it won't happen while i am driving at a high speed with my 5 grand children. i called gm and they have no intentions of correcting this problem so the consumers who pay for a high priced car expecting it to last will now have to come out pocket $1500 to repair the problem. this is ridiculous. if they don't repair this problem i will never buy another gm product. i now own 4 and all 4 have had recalls. *tr
My car becomes hard to maneuver whenever pulling in and out of parking spaces and making turns at low speeds. the steering stiffness has become progressively tighter. i first noticed this on a trip to st louis with my family, it is a family vehicle and quite frankly, i don't want to risk my children's lives in this vehicle because the steering locks up so tightly that i can barely turn the wheel, whether it is merging into traffic or getting into a parking space or making a slow turn onto a street. i have had new brakes and tires put on this car last month and asked the mechanic to check my power steering fluid and was told there was no power steering fluid. *tr
When making sharp turns, the steering tightens up or gains resistance. makes a rubbing or grinding noise. *tr
When driving at low speed, the power steering goes out. it requires me to completely stop and manually turn the wheel which is very difficult. there is continue knocking at any speed when making turns. this has been a continual problem for almost 6 months and is getting worse. the car is out of warranty, but after reviewing further online, there is a pending class action suit for this issue. i called gm direct and they said they have received this complaint several times but there are no recalls. as a mother of small children, i am afraid to continue to drive my car for fear of wrecking or being hit with this issue. it is sad that gm will not act on this issue and stand behind their vehicles. if there has been numerous complaints and a class action suit, why will gm not act upon this. does there have to be more deaths occur to get their attention. the cost of replacing the steering rack and pump is very expensive and should not be at the cost of the consumer for a manufacturer defect. extremely disappointed. *tr
We were on a long trip from wa. state to el centro, ca. approximately 100 + miles from el centro, when we were slowing to go into a service station, i noticed i had no power steering and had to manually steer it which was very difficult. i tried to put some ps fluid in it, but couldn't get the engine cover off to find the ps holder, so had to drive on into el centro and locate a dealership there. they checked it and informed us that a new rack & pinion unit, etc. was needed at that time. our extended warranty was out at that time, so it cost us approx. $2,000 + to get it repaired and then the wheels balanced, etc. we could have had a crash at high speeds prior to having it checked as we were on a long trip. we did get it fixed as as we could though which necessitated us waiting around the dealership for several hours while they fixed the problem. we con-tacted our dealership in our home town, but could or would not do anything because our warranty had just rain out. *tr
When i try to turn left or right at a low speed, the steering locks up. if i stop and start again, the steering works correctly. this is an intermittent problem but is quite serious as it could have caused accidents two of the times it occurred! *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 buick enclave. the contact stated that while driving approximately 20 mph, the vehicle became difficult to maneuver. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnosis. the mechanic stated that the rack and pinion would have to be replaced. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the vin was not available. the approximate failure mileage was 58,000 .
2010 buick enclave" steering problem: when trying to make a "sharp" or "u-turn" at an intersection, parking spot or turn around, the steering wheel and car wheels seem to "lock up" to the point where vehicle almost stops by itself. you have to try turning steering back and stepping down on accelerator to get car moving again. luckily, it has not happened at a busy intersection, otherwise i'm sure this could cause an accident. this has happened a in the past, since we've had the vehicle(2 years) but more and more recently. my wife mostly drives this car but i also have noticed it. *tr
Power steering has an awful grinding/whining noise and car gets hard to steer. this is a known issue from gm and they expect the customer to pay for the repairs. 2000 miles over their warranty. they also state my rack and pinion needs replaced, which is another known issue. not covered under the drive train warranty is absurd. when will the customer benefit? they get bailed out and this is how they repay us. investigate these issue. 52,000 miles and i've been in the shop 6 times. power steering, air bags, seat belt issues, water pump, sheered frame bolt, dead battery. the car is 3 years old for goodness sake please investigate these repeated issues!! *tr
My steering completely sticks when turning either left or right at slow speeds. i have heard other buick enclave owners having the same issue right around 60,000 miles and around the make/model year 2010. there are over 200 complaints on edmund's buick enclave forum "power steering noise". it is frightening because it doesn't allow you to properly make the turn. i have taken it into my buick dealership to confirm the issue and they did confirm that there are issues with the steering pump. *tr
When driving slow usually in parking lots or a u-turn, the power steering fails and becomes very difficult to turn vehicle. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 buick enclave. the contact stated that while driving 5 mph, he attempted to turn the steering wheel to the right but the steering wheel seized. the contact stated then turned the steering wheel to the left and the failure corrected itself temporarily. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer for inspection. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified. the failure mileage was 80,000.
When starting from a stop and moving forward the power steering unit would fail to engage, thus rendering the vehicle extremely difficult to steer. on several instances i nearly hit other vehicles in parking lots, and on one occasion i nearly hit a pedestrian. the buick dealer advised me to replace the entire power steering unit, which i did at my expense with 67000 miles on the car. buick refused to accept responsibility even though the service technician said that this was not the first instance he had seen of this power steering unit failure. interestingly, i have talked to one person with a gmc arcadia and another with a saturn outlook who experienced the same problem in the same mileage range. those two vehicles are identical to my buick enclave. it appears to me that general motors should accept responsibility for this problem and issue a vehicle recall.. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 buick enclave. while driving 15 mph, the power steering failed without warning. the failure occurred at slower speeds or while making a turn. the contact stated that extra effort was needed to steer the vehicle when the failure occurred. the dealer diagnosed that the rack and pinion, steering bushings, and steering shaft needed to be replaced. the contact was also informed that there was a power steering fluid leak that needed to be repaired. the vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. the manufacturer was notified of the failures. the approximate failure mileage was 30,000.
I purchased this car used with around 70,000 miles. i noticed after driving it for a short time after the purchase that the power steering shuts off when conducting low speed turns, nearly causing me to have a few wrecks. this is especially noticeable in parking lots that require precise steering. i have not noticed any issues driving around curves at highway speeds, only slow turns at 20 mph or less. the power steering fluid level is normal, and there are not any leaks that i could find. after getting a recall notice about the water pump shaft (notice 13079) and looking it up on-line, i saw that the power steering issue i have is very common, however there are not any recalls for that...yet, although there needs to be.
Traveling up a mountain road, just as the car approached an approximately 180 degree turn at the top of the mountain, the power steering completely failed and i lost the ability to control the car. fortunately, there was a scenic area pull-off at the turn were i was able to drive straight off the road immediately. otherwise i feel this could have been catastrophic, as i have never before experienced driving without the assist of power steering. had this failure happened 30 seconds to 2-3 minutes later when i was traveling down the mountain through a series of very sharp switchbacks (requiring speeds of 10-15 mph), i could have easily collided with another vehicle or driven off the side of the mountain. *tr
The steering wheel often but not always locks up when driving at low speeds and making sharp turns, for example at a stop sign or making a u turn at a traffic light. it does not matter whether a right or left turn is being made. it takes significant force to turn the wheel to "unstuck" the steering wheel and make the car go in the intended direction, and immediate brake force is often required to avoid hitting a curb or another car that expected me to complete the turn. i took the vehicle to a buick dealer this week and they supposedly isolated the problem to the steering pump (part 20954812) and steering gear (part 22902260), for a total of $2000 to repair. i believe this to be a safety concern because i have no confidence in my car's ability to go in the direction i intend. *tr
2010 buick enclave. consumer writes in regards to vehicle power steering problems. *smd the consumer stated the power steering began exhibiting problems when making smooth left or right turns. the problem was not continuous, only sporadic, but lately with increasing intervals. it appeared the power steering would lose power when making turns at low to minimal speed. at times, it would become impossible to turn, having lost power until the rpm's were increased. the consumer stated the dealer had the vehicle for two days, but were unable to detect any visible problems with the steering. the dealer was then advised to drain and flush the power steering fluid and re-test it. the line pressures and flush were completed, but they were unable to attach test components due to the location on the engine. they did agree, however, that they were able to detect the same problem with the steering during test drives, the consumer experienced. the dealer suggested replacing the power steering pump and the rack and pinion, but they could not guarantee it would solve the problem. on march 29, 2013, the steering locked up as the consumer was exiting a parking lot, attempting to turn left. the vehicle veered across the road, up onto the sidewalk, and continued in a left turn back onto the road before the steering released.
While turning into parking spots or in an intersection while at low speeds the steering becomes extremely difficult if not impossible. *tr
The car has had a whining noise in the steering for a long time. have been told lots of things about the sound and the reason behind the sound. about 3 months ago while making a u-turn at red light the car's steering lost its power steering momentarily. it become extremely difficult to complete the turn and made for a very difficult situation. oncoming cars were not as easy to avoid as the steering become almost impossible. at a local auto repair shop after the incident we were told that this was a very common incident with the buick enclave. we then called a local gm dealer and their service department, only to be told that there occasionally is air bubbles that happen in power steering systems and that the whining noise is okay. i asked if this was a common problem to be told that this is not common, even though i was told by a auto repair shop that it was a common problem. after dealing with this problem for the last 3 months and putting my small children and wife in the car, i am unable to do this any longer. it is not a safe situation, not even a little bit. my wife nearly wrecks into other cars pretty much anytime she tries to park the car in a store parking lot. after researching the internet, i am finding thousands upon thousands of other people with the same problem. i would like to believe that maybe it was just my car, but i don't think that every buick enclave should lose its power steering at 70000 miles. that is not good. do something please! *tr
The power steering pump has already gone bad. apparently, this is a wide-spread problem as a simple google search turned up many people with 2009/2010 enclaves that have had to replace their power steering pump between 50k and 75k miles. many other complaints have actually had the rack and pinon steering needed replaced as a result of the same problem. (bad pump caused damage to other parts). the dealership cannot ascertain at this time whether my vehicle needs new rack and pinion steering yet until they replace the pump first. *tr
Inspection reveals power steering fluid need replacing, found rack and pinion leaking into boots. *tr
Steering has always made a noise like corduroy pants rubbing together and has progressively become more lacks. also the steering becomes hard to turn at low speeds like turning into a parking spot or making a left hand turn from a stop and requires a lot of effort to turn the vehicle. this could be a very dangerous situation and could cause an accident. i have taken my vehicle to the dealer and they of course replaced the steering rack for 1300 dollars and it did not fix the turning issue. i have to bring it back and i am sure it will need a new steering pump. help. i have read about this issue online and it seems to be a very common problem with this vehicle. we know three other families with this car and they have all had the steering rack and power steering pump replaced. i think gm should stand behind their vehicles. i have 57,000 miles on my vehicle and of course it is out of warranty. help! *tr
Rack and pinion needed to be replaced control arm needed to be replaced steering bushing needed to be replaced. *tr
While turning into parking spots or in an intersection while at low speeds the steering becomes extremely difficult if not impossible to turn. its sad to hear that more people are having these issues and they cant be fixed....it scares me to drive this vehicle when it could cause an accident. *tr
