I got a cel and dropped it off at the dealer. they said it was to the active scr tank. after research i found out a lot of bmw vehicles have the item fail. the 328d is not on the list of extended warranties. are there many 328d's that fail?
I started my car on october 23, 2019, driving down the street i noticed a loud noise and when i stopped the car was shaking, i turned around and when back home, had the car towed to the dealer. the dealer said i needed a new engine due to "lack of lubrication". i was then informed it would cost me $16,800. we have 125k miles on a diesel engine! i was told there were metal flakes in the oil and no one can tell me what failed in the engine. i have followed all of the required services and had all of the recalls done which were many. we have the fuel system replaced, after the car completed stalled and had to have it towed, luckily there was a recall on that. since we have had the fuel system replaced we have had nothing but problems, we were sold a lemon, and the bmw cooperate office will not do anything, and i was informed they only warranty their cars to 50k. now i am out a car that i paid 50k for 5 years ago. there were no warning lights regarding the engine, and when oil was checked all levels were good.
Def tanks froze in cold weather causing multiple parts to fail in the engine. def system i believe is now compromised as a result of poor engineering for the overall system. vehicle is parked outside and there were temperatures well below zero.
While driving home from work my car began to smoke and make a hissing noise about 1 block from my house. i made it home and noticed the smoke coming from the engine area. i imediately sprayed some water on it just incase there was a fire. there was also a smell of burnin plastic. i observed the car for a few hours and waited for it to cool down. when looking at the engine i noticed that there was a melted hole in my intake manifold. and my map sensor had melted. while researching the cause i noticed that this is caused by the egr valve. i searched bmw north americe recall site and put in my vin#. it did not show a recall for the egr valve even though there is a recall number of 18v755000 egr valve identifying the 2014 bmw 328d. i called bmw north america and spoke to them about my issue and it did not show my car having any recalls. there seems to be a disconnect if the vin i provided to bmw north america and nhtsa does not show any recalls for my vehicle. this is a
Smelling exhaust engine light came on. took to bmw dealer they said my fuel injectors were leaking and have melted to the manifold. i asked and made a complaint with bmw after spending $3300. thaey also mentioned there was no fix for the egr cooler recall. i asked if this caused my fuel injector manifold problem they say no. engine light cake on recently also smelling fuel again while driving. they replaced #1 injector. drove it for two weeks and engine light returned. took it back to the dealer they said they are waiting for a exhaust cooler. i have had a loner for a week now. one i hope i will not get charged again. two did this cause my initial problem i do not know. there is a problem they didn't fix and i feel it's costing me lots of money.
Exhaust gas recirculation (egr) cooler recall: contacted bmw customer relations as per recall letter from bmw of n.a. via email and they left a voice mail that parts have not been available. recall status also has been stating - "remedy not yet available". recall was made in oct 25, 2018 and it is nearing 6 months but no solution or repair process has been initiated. letter states possibility of increased risk of fire could occur if engine intake manifold has small holes due to failure of egr. kindly please help with this untimely and unreasonable time period of repair lingering without any safety for the driver of this car. currently no problem has occurred but feeling of driving on borrowed luck and time is not a safe one. thank you for your help.
Carbon monoxide inside the car is way too high with the egr cooler leaking issue not being fixed yet. it's been 3 months now and the air quality inside the car is soo bad that i am getting headache from the soot and co gas coming out of ac vent. i did a service today and even after replacing the microfilter and another filter, the problem still persists. the degraded air quality contains hazardous gas and can cause dizziness which could lead to fatal accidents at higher speed. i kindly request that bmw repurchase this vehicle from me as soon as possible, before i could get into any sort of accident. the egr cooler issue could also lead to car fire (which is definitely something i don't want to happen.) thank you. regards, [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
The exhaust gas recirculation cooler is not working. when i drive it, it begins to overheat and each time i add coolant throughout the day, it leaks or burns out rapidly.
I received a recall letter dated december 2018 stating that my car is being recalled for the exhaust gas recirculation cooler. it states that the egr cooler could develop an internal leak. the cooling fluid could mix with the diesel engine soot & may result in smoldering particles. the particles could come in contact with the engine intake manifold and create small holes increasing the risk of a fire. the letter states that there is no remedy available yet. i called bmw corporate on 1/3/19 after i received the letter & they said there's nothing they could do. they recommended i call around to different bmw dealers & see if they have a plan put in place for this recall. they said since the dealers are privately owned, they cant make them do anything about the recall. i called freehold bmw & edison bmw & they said there's nothing that can be done & that i need to wait for the parts to be available. i travel 45-60 mins each way back & forth to work on the nj turnpike so since receipt of this letter, i've been taking my wife's car, which is a lease, in fear of my car catching fire. i'm making payments on a car that neither myself nor my wife feel safe driving & i don't think it's fair. i'm forced to leave my pregnant wife & our 3 year old daughter home without a safe vehicle to drive. i called the nhtsa on 1/3/19 & spoke to beau. i explained the situation. he took down all of the information & gave me a reference number. ref# 159562. he advised that if bmw doesn't offer me a resolution in a timely manner, to file a complaint. although i received the letter in december 2018, when i checked the website provided on the letter (safercar.gov), the recall was issued on october 25, 2018. please advise what my next step to resolving this matter should be. thank you for your time.

I received an important safety recall notice in december of 2018 according to the notice it can catch fire while driving, i have called the customer service number for bmw they stated they don't have a fix for it yet but said that there is no danger in driving this car i did not accept this so they told me to take it to the dealership who kept my car for two days to tell me they had no idea on what to look for or what they could do. now i have a car i don't believe is safe.

Egr valve on 2014 328d bmw : engine light has gone on repeatedly after each engine repair. reported engine coolant had to be refilled before first repair. first repair consisted of 2 sensors for nox and 1 filtered air pipe. engine light on again and found hole in melted intake manifold which was replaced. engine light reappeared again. owner suspects egr cooler leaking internally mixing with diesel engine soot. told this to service tech at bmw of ocala and reported also to bmw of north america. looking to be reimbursed for past faulty engine repairs and asking for recall on vehicle for this engine failure with potential for death and fire hazards. engine fault on screen message said" drive moderately. maximum drive train output not available. consult service center"( which i did and still has not fixed it properly).

While driving at 65 mph or so the vehicle's on-board message center read "drive-train malfunction". i pressed on the accelerator and there was no response. the vehicle was loosing momentum quite quickly which required me to swiftly, but safely to pull over to the roadway edge. this is the third time the issue has presented itself. the first time was a few months from purchasing the vehicle. the dealer found metal shavings in the fuel lines. they replaced the entire fuel system and sent me off. a few months later i took the vehicle in for service i.e. oil change, inspection, etc. while inspecting my car they again found metal shavings in the fuel lines. they again replaced the entire fuel system and said it was fixed. just this weekend september 30, 2018, i was driving my vehicle on the freeway and again the car went limp. no power, limited steering control, no response from accelerator. essentially a catastrophic event because without power a vehicle is a rolling projectile. according to the dealership the vehicle once again has metal shavings in the fuel system. total count for replacing fuel system (3).
Car has gone thru numerous service calls for coolant leak, pressure testing & burnt oil smell & vapor fume coming inside the cab when engine reaches the operating temperature!! makes the car not drivable!! after oil filter housing, cylinder cover & gasket change, there is still a visible burnt oil smoke coming from rear & sides of the engine area, best seen under a flash light after dusk! this is been going on since june 2018 & presently car is in the shop for repair again!!
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 bmw 328d. while the contact's daughter was driving various speeds, the vehicle lost power and the radiator fluid indicator was low. the vehicle was taken to fields bmw south orlando (9750 s orange blossom trail, orlando, fl 32837, (407) 956-6300) where it was diagnosed that the sensor needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. the contact stated that the failure was similar to nhtsa campaign number: 18v755000 (engine and engine cooling). the failure mileage was 80,000.
Without any warning, the vehicle lost power suddenly/ abruptly stopped on a busy city street. the vehicle almost get slammed into by other vehicles traveling behind it. this was potentially a cause for a fatal accident. bmw dealership informed that the cause was the sudden failure of the fuel pump. vehicle is at 39,900 miles, & is cover by bmw certified pre-owned warranty.
While driving, message displayed "drivetrain malfunction, drive cautiously" car lost power, but i made it to shoulder. while calling for help, i noticed thick grey smoke filling the car. i exited vehicle then noticed flames coming from under the hood on the drivers side. car completely burned
11.3.17 car caught on fire while driving. total loss. car lost power. message was displayed "drivetrain malfunction, drive cautiously" pulled to side of highway, car was engulphed in flames within 5 minutes.
Egr valve locked open, as sediment accumulated in the vacuum line from the leaking of anti-freeze into the valve. manifold developed holes, as the egr overheated due the valve locking open. the smell of anti-freeze and diesel filled the car as smoke started coming from the engine, while i was driving on the freeway. had to have the manifold replaced, as the manifold had four holes in it, and the egr valve vacuum line had to be cleared. reported the issue to kuni bmw, who never reported the issue and warned me to not drive the car in the condition that it was in before the repair. kuni also said that they had never heard of an egr valve issue and anti-freeze causing sediment to plug the vacuum line. this is the same issue that bmw has had to issue a recall for 2015-2017 models in europe and s. korea. kuni bmw knew of the recalls in s. korea and europe when they talked to me. i am reporting this to ntsb, as bmw na told me that they had only made a informal report to ntsb, and they felt it was not a major issue. my car almost caught on fire and burned, while my pregnant wife and daughter were riding with me, but kuni refused to report it and bmw didn't consider it a big issue. sad. bavarian autoworks in vancouver, wa did the repair work. recall should be extended to the 2014 models. as of today, i have reached out to the local news anchor on fox 12, as she also has a 2014 bmw diesel.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 bmw 328d. while driving 50 mph and slowing down to make a turn, the vehicle suddenly lost all power and the check engine warning indicator illuminated. the vehicle was towed to steve thomas bmw inc (411 e daily dr, camarillo, ca 93010 (805) 482-8878) where it was diagnosed that the high pressure fuel pump failed and released metal shavings into the fuel system and engine. the fuel system needed replacement. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the contact researched online and found nhtsa campaign number: 15v189000 (fuel system, gasoline), but the vin was not included. the failure mileage was approximately 50,000.
At 55k miles in april 2017, in fast lane of freeway, drive-train malfunction message displayed with service engine lights. car lost power as i was fortunately able to change multiple lanes to shoulder as car lost complete power. bmw sos did not function. it took 3 tow drivers and 3 hours to manually override system to get car in neutral to safely put on truck. bmw advised they would have to jack car and remove transmission panel to manually put in 'drive' which was not an option on the narrow shoulder of i-10 in ca. diagnostics revealed high pressure fuel pump failed and 'exploded' sending metal particles through entire fuel system. dealer advised over $10k in parts however bmw covered under the 'ca emissions warranty.' entire fuel system replaced (tank, lines, injectors and pump). unsure if it is related to the ultimate failure of the pump but all injectors failed and replaced in 2016. 42,162 mi / september 8, 2016 engine light -faulty cyl 3fuel injector fault code 24bd00 'replaced #3 44,495 mi / october 13, 2016 engine light-fault code 24c000 - replaced injectors 1 and 2 & 4
This morning while driving the car on the freeway without warning the engine suddenly died. the car would not start. luckily the traffic was slow and no one rear ended the car. the cops were there momentarily and help get the car to the shoulder. there is no police report as no accident resulted from the incident. the car is still under warranty and was towed to the dealership. a two year old car with less than 24000 miles on the clock should not put me and my family in a dangerous situation like this one. there must be a major design issue with some component that bmw has been ignoring to address for years going back to 2007. by the way this was not the first time the engine stall happened on this car. almost a year or so ago the engine died just after i left my home to work. the car was fixed by bmw under warranty. the problem was due to failed catalytic converter sensors. that was odd to happen prematurely. *tr

I pulled slowly into a parking space at the gas station. i stopped and i had my foot on the brake. i was pressing the park button when the car surged forward, accelerated over the curb and into the outside wall of the store. the damage to the car was enough to render it undriveable and there was significant damage to the building. thank goodness, no one was on the sidewalk. police and fire departments responded. *tr
On october 26, 2014 at approx. 5:00 pm est, my wife had pulled our car, listed above, into our neighbor's driveway after a small trip. as soon as she parked the car, she noticed smoke coming from under the hood of the bmw. within a few minutes, the car was engulfed in flames. the fire started under the hood and completely engulfed the front end, melted the engine compartment and destroyed our car and neighbors garage siding and driveway. this was a brand new bmw purchased in august 2014. *tr
