Dipped lower right headlamp. i have had the bulb replaced at my expense because the dealer said that would be the reason for it to flicker and go on and off. this did not remedy the situation. looking at all of the complaints a recall needs to happen. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 audi a4. the contact stated the headlights shut on and off while driving. when the failure occurred the instrument panel would display headlights dipped on the instrument. the contact took the vehicle to the dealer who was told the engine vibration caused the headlights to shut off. the dealer placed rubber pieces into the casing in order to minimize the vibration. the failure mileage was 43,000 and the current mileage was 62,000.

Dipped headlight on 2005 audi a4. had issue with left headlight which audi usa eventually replaced, now right headlight is doing the same and audi refuses to repair under warranty. *tr

Intermittent headlight malfunction. over the course of a year and a half of ownership, the right headlight has malfunctioned (turned off), with no consistent cause apparent. the specific error message that appears in the driver information screen is left headlight dipped". this condition is both unsafe, and illegal - as many states will issue a traffic violation for driving with a non-functioning headlight. it has happened about 20 times, the headlight flickers, then goes out, but will come back on when the car is restarted, then be fine for weeks or months at a time. the dealership has been notified of the problem on at least 3 visits, and has claimed that everything is fine and they can not reproduce. they have suggested/guessed that it is the xenon light bulb itself, however it has checked out fine each time, and as mentioned, has functioned flawlessly after each occurrence with merely a restart of the vehicle. no parts have been repaired or replaced, however they have claimed to perform a visual inspection of the electrical connections on at least one visit. anecdotal evidence (conversational, and via internet owners' forums) suggests that the problem is widespread among a substantial portion of audi's model range and years 2005 audi a4 3.2 quattro." *tr

On my 2005.5 audi a4, the driver's side headlight flickers, then the illumination terminates. this is a problem that the dealership has been made aware of, however they don't find the problem during service . the illumination flickers, causing other driver's to take their attention from the road and focus on my vehicle. additionally, as is a law in illinois, i am not able to have a vehicle equipped with flashing or strobing white or blue light, which this malfunction ultimately does. finally, the light being out, causes the roadway to be darker and thus, more difficult to see. illinois law requires two properly functioning headlights, which i do not have. *tr

1) headlights are the main problem. the car has the type of lights that move when turning the wheel. occasionally, the headlights will flicker whether or not you are turning the steering wheel but will remain on. this is a nuisance but may be related to the next, larger problem. the larger problem is, almost every night there will be a headlight dip warning signal on the instrument panel. when this happens rarely will the headlights stay on anymore. they used to do so, but now one or both of the headlights will frequently turn off. we used to be able to override this by moving the headlight switch on the dash from the auto to the manual mode and off mode. however, now we have to switch back and forth multiple times before the headlights turn back on and it takes a lot longer now than it used to. (the headlights are staying off for longer periods. ) also, even when you leave the headlight switch in the manual mode (rather than use the auto mode at all), the headlights will still dip and turn off.

I own an audi a4 2.0t 2005.5 (b7). the driver side xenon headlights flicker intermittently and shut off. this is not a headlight bulb issue the problem is getting worse. the dealer aware of this and is not taking responsibility because of the cost. i have read of many other owners of this make and model having the same problem. this has the potential of creating an accident. *tr

2005.5 audi a4 with xenon lights. both headlights flicker constantly and frequently turn off. by turning lights off and on, the bulb comes back on. it is dangerous for other drivers (flashing headlights) and for me (no headlights!). it is illegal, too. dealerships and independent mechanics have suggested a range of repairs but no one seems to be sure without spending thousands (ballasts and bulbs) on a repair which may or may not work. has been happening this way for years. *tr

The headlights on my audi a4 flicker and then i get an error message saying that the "headlight dipped" and then it turns off. i then have to turn off the headlights and turn them back on to get the light to return. i have tried replacing many components of the headlight system and nothing has remedied the issue. the dealer does not know how to fix the problem either. *tr

Headlight flickers and goes out "headlight dipped" warning. *tr

Audi a4 2.0t avant - 2005. there are numerous complaints on the xenon lights flickering on and off. today i had cars pulling over in front of me because they thought i was an emergency vehicle. this overwhelming response to the problem can be seen at: http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=3977997 -and- http://forums.audiworld.com/showthread.php?p=23809262 this is very dangerous. *tr

My audi a4 2005.5 left headlight flickers. *tr

I own a 2005 audi a4 and my headlights keep flickering and then go out. either the right one or the left one goes out. i'll get either a left dipped headlight out or right dipped headlight out warning on the dash. it's recently been the right one going out but it started with left going out most of the time. this happens more than 50% of the time and is becoming a safety issue especially on the dark roads i travel on at night. i've already hit a deer in this car once, so this issue really concerns me, and i can't seem to get it fixed. i've notices this issue is happening to many other audi owners in the forums and blogs i've read about it. i have taken it to the dealer but the don't get an error code and have been unable to fix it. others have replaced the bulbs but the issue will continue after a couple of months i've noticed. something needs to be done about this issue or at in the dealership being able to detect an error code for this. they want you to take it to them when the headlight is out and that is to inconvenient and dealerships are closed at night anyway. *tr

I will be driving my 2005.5 audi a4 2.0t at night and randomly my headlights will start to flicker than completely fail. i have to turn them off than back on the problem will go away then it will happen again sometimes more often. the parts are ridiculously expensive so i"m putting off getting it fixed. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 audi a4. the contact stated that while driving at 25 mph, the left front headlight on the drivers side of the vehicle flickered on and off. when he turned the vehicle off for fifteen minutes and then back on , the head lamp would function normally. the failure occurred intermittently. the contact stated that he called an authorized dealership and the dealer explained that they were aware of the problem but did not know how to correct it. the failure mileage was approximately 63,000. the current mileage was approximately 67,000.

I currently own a 2005.5 audi a4. my headlights constantly flicker, which is dangerous at night. i have been looking on audi-tech forums and this seems to be a real problem with many audi vehicles. when i first got the car, i used to get a flickering problem but the dealership fixed it by replacing the bulbs. however, i do not think it is the bulbs because the problem has apparently flared up again. please check into this as it may be reason for a recall. *tr

Left head light flickers, dipped head light warning comes on dash, light shuts off. very dangerous while traveling dark windy roads. turning lights off then on gets the light to work again. *tr

Dipped head light message with headlight flashing on and off then goes out.....if you turn off the lights and put them back on it works again. was just on an audi form web site and i'd say hundreds of people are having the same problem with no fix from audi. it is not safe to have your headlights going out while driving at night. *tr

Intermittent headlight malfunction. over the course of a four months of ownership, the left headlight has malfunctioned (turned off), with no consistent cause apparent. the specific error message that appears in the driver information screen is left dipped headlight". this condition is both unsafe, and illegal - as many states will issue a traffic violation for driving with a non-functioning headlight. it has happened about 30 times, the headlight flickers, then goes out, but will come back on when the car is restarted or the lights are turned off and then back on, then could be fine for a while. now that it is cold outside the problem is much worse. haven't tried replacing parts yet since internet research indicates that many people have had the same issue and after much expense the problem just comes back or is not resolved. still looking for the correct solution. anecdotal evidence (conversational, and via internet owners' forums) suggests that the problem is widespread among a substantial portion of audi's model range and years." *tr

Headlights on my 2005.5 audi a4 equipped with xenon headlights suffer from intermittent failure. while driving headlights can begin to flicker for no apparent reason. flickering can get worse and one headlight will go out. a warning reading either "left or right dipped headlight" appears on the car. the other headlight that did not fail typically remains on and continues to function properly although it has also failed leaving the car with no functional headlights on two occasions. when the lights are cycled off then back on the headlights turn back on and may function properly or may flicker and fail again. the problem began under warranty and was very infrequent. the problem now occurs 50% of the time while driving at night. the car has been in for repair numerous times and the problem has not been corrected. typically while experiencing the flickering headlights i find that the safest way to drive is one failed headlight as there is then no flickering of headlights which i would assume is highly distracting to other drivers. a google search for left or right dipped headlight returns hundreds of thousands of results with numerous people having trouble getting audi to correctly repair the problem. as the xenon headlights are optional equipment on the cars the percentage of cars with xenon bulbs and headlight problems might be fairly high. *tr

On 2005.5 audi a4 with hid headlights, the headlights will flicker and then will turn off. console will report "left/right headlight dipped". this is a common problem with the vehicle, however, audi has taken no action to rectify the problem. *tr

Headlights flicker and shut off during driving of the vehicle. dipped headlight error displays, and happens to both headlights evenly. *tr

Randomly, and at all different speeds and road conditions, the left or right light will flicker and go out. the instrument panel will say "dipped light". the lights must be turned off then on to correct the problem. very dangerous on dark curvy highways. so far both have not gone out together. dealers have no idea how to fix it as there are no error codes or cannot reproduce the problem. problem happens at least once a week, and sometimes several times in one evening. *tr

Headlights on my 2005 audi a4 sedan vibrate and fail, sending an error message reading "dipped headlight failure". this happens more when it's cold or wet. various items have been replaced. issue is intermittent. now out of warranty. this dangerous condition is very expensive to repair, if the dealer is capable of repairing. i'm learning than many other audi owners have this same problem. *tr

2005 audi a4 quattro. "right dipped light". right bulb goes out and i get the warning. its been happening randomly and will not stop. turning off the lights and back on sometimes corrects the problem for a short time. *tr

Headlights flicker and turn off while driving. message on dash reads 'dipped headlamp'. headlights will turn back on if light switch is turned off and back on. this is extremely dangerous, and many times now, the lights have turned off on the freeway or on dark mountainous road section. the lights turned off approximately 100 times during a 2600 mi trip. *tr

I have a 2005 a4 and for the past year have been getting a 'dipped headlight' warning on my dash lcd. while driving or idling, the driver's headlight will flicker & sporadically go off. my dealership said to shut off car, wait a minute, and turn car back on. this seems to temporarily fix the situation, but when you are driving and the lights go out or flicker, it's not consive to pull over and shut your car off. the dealerships will not address this under a recall as there is still not one set up. audi is letting their loyal consumers down by putting us at risk of harm should we be driving and the lights just go out. this is a serious issue that needs immediate attention to ensure drivers are equipped with functioning equipment. *tr

The left headlight of my 2006 audi a4 quattro has this annoying -- and dangerous -- problem: 1. the left headlight flickers 2. it then turns itself off 3. the message "left dipped headlight" appears 4. the message is changed to a sign indicating that the lightbulb has failed. if i turn the light off (note: we're talking about driving at night here) and turn it back on again, the light will become normal again, for about a few minutes and then the cycle repeats itself. this problem is intermittent. it has been occurring a lot recently with the cold weather. i can't tell for sure whether it is temperature related. my audi dealer said that audi knows about this problem but doesn't know how to fix it -- changing the light bulb doesn't solve the problem. *tr

My certified pre owned 2005 a4 had the xenon headlights changed 3 times in 1.5 years while under warranty. six months after the 50,000 warranty, the lights started flickering and then dimmed and flickered while driving at night with no warning on the display. i went to the dealer and both had to be replaced at a cost of $430 for the two lights and $236 dollars installation cost. i have owned the car for ~ 1.7 years and had five new headlights. i am not audi's quality control department. i also was able to turn the lights off and on to get them back on and its very dangerous at night driving down the highway at 65 mph. its is scary to say the least. *tr

Dipped headlight warning and headlights flickering. brought to dealer for service said may need to be replaced $200-350 because they have to take entire bumper off. i am driving this car because my former 2001 a6 caught fire due to headlight panel in which there was a recall for. car burnt to the ground on top of a mountain leavening just the frame. audi could not have cared less, offer me a $2000 incentive for a new or used audi/volkswagen. after reading all of these complaints due to light flickering i am scared to drive my a4. *tr

Headlights constantly flicker and then go out. turning them off then on will only bring them on for a few seconds. i have had bulb replaced no results, though very expensive. my last audi burned to the ground due to similar defect. couldn't imagine this would happen again. have reached out to audi with no response. *tr

2005 audi a4 s-line's problems: dipped headlights flickering & intermittently going out and condensation in headlights. *tr

The lights on my audi a4 3.2 quattro will flicker and sometimes go out while driving at night time. if i stop and pull over the lights will go back on, but the lights will flicker. some days i have the problem frequently- sometimes i'll go for a stretch of 5-7 days with no problems at night. after recent research i have been lead to this site to report the problem and make someone aware of the fact that multiple audi owners have been having this problem also. i was referred from fixya.com- and i hope that a solution will be found for audi owners. the problems the lights can cause are distractions for other drivers, and it may lead to a ticket or another traffic violation for safety reasons. the lights flicker and a dipped light warning will appear on the dash and it has occurred more than once for my vehicle in the past 3 months. *tr

Excessive moisture in both headlights. dealer stats that an "o" ring has failed and infers that this is a design problem. states that most headlight assemblies will clear up within about 10 minutes. mine have so much moisture in them that i have water drips. this causes the light output to be very dim. audi has a tsb that states the light assembly should not be replaced, and has no other repair suggestion (just live with the problem i guess). also, it appears that this happens on the 2002-2005 models as well as the 2005.5 - 2009 models of the a4. this is a known issue that audi doesn't seem to want to address. dealer has estimated the "o" ring replacement to be about $250 (for a $1 part!). *tr

Headlights randomly go off while driving at night. a warning message comes up saying "left/right headlight dipped". this can be corrected by turning the lights off and then back on. this has been happening on my 2005.5 audi a4 quatro 3.2 since about 24 months after purchase. i have asked multiple dealers about the problem with no resolution. dealer said no codes are in the system. *tr

The right headlight will dip and then turn off while driving. you can turn the lights off and back on and it will temporarily solve the problem but will turn off again randomly. this problem has happened since i purchased the car cpo in late 2008 but has continued to get worse to the point where now it generally happens once every few minutes while the lights are on forcing me to continually turn the lights off and on the while driving which is very dangerous, not to mention extremely annoying to not only myself but other drivers as well. *js

2005 audi a4 2.0 turbo. the head lights go out and the sensor says "dipped light", need to shut lights off and then put them back on. i have brought it to the dealer 3 times and they say they know that they have a problem on all these cars but, "do not know how to fix it". they cleaned the terminals but it did not work. there are thousands of similar complaints on the lights. *tr

Problem: left front headlight flickers frequently, and often shuts off while vehicle is in motion. it has been evaluated by several audi dealers, and at least 2 attempts to fix it have failed. the light bulb is not broken, since it turns back on after switching lights off. the problem is more frequent during cold weather. when it happens, a warning light comes on indicating a "dipped headlight." *tr

Car headlights periodically flicker and turn off under normal conditions. driver side flickers on acceleration and passenger side will flicker and turn off completely during acceleration or braking. have to switch the headlights completely off and back on for them to light up again. i have the bi-xenon hid adaptive headlights factory installed on my car. i just received a class action lawsuit letter describing reimbursements for class members who have either repaired or had an authorized audi dealership document the issue within the 5 year/50,000 mile warranty from date of original purchase or lease. i bought my car at 51,xxx miles and am out of warranty with no access to the previous owners records. this is a safety issue that should be identified and a full recall campaign should be initialized with audi of america (aoa). from what i have gathered on the internet, there are 100's if not 1000's of a4's having this problem but aoa refuses to take responsibility for it and claim the headlights are operating normally. normally is not turning off while driving on their own. i have dealt with this issue for 5 years that i have owned my car and never asked the dealership for a repair due to it being out of warranty and is expensive ($1000+). it's time for aoa to own up to this issue and repair it free of charge for it's customers since it's a safety issue. *tr

Hello, i have a 2006 audi a4 which has the xenon lights, they shut off about every time i drive my car at night and causes a huge driving distraction and the parts they say will fix it are very expensive and tend to not fix it at all, i had what they said fixed the problem only last for a month and they started to do the same thing again. *tr

The interior surface of the headlight lenses on my 2005 audi a4 are normally 50% to 80% covered with moisture condensation and water droplets. audi claims this is normal and refuse to warranty the lights. audi states in technical bulletin group: 94, number: 05-04, that "the affected headlight lens surface should clear after approximately 10 minutes of light operation, although the entire surface may not clear. audi further states that "condensation does not affect performance of light assemblies". i have found that no amount of light operation provides significant clearing of the lens surface. *tr

I own a 2005 audi a4. one of my headlight constantly flickers then turns off. this problem happens in any and all situations. cold, hot, day, night, morning, evening, raining. the only solution at the moment is to turn off the headlights for about 10 seconds then restart them. this is incredibly dangerous as it is night time. the bulbs themselves are not bad. it is an electronic module problem or something of the sort. i am an ase certified mechanic so i have diagnosed the car numerous time. the headlight system is extremely expensive and the problem seems to be widespread. one can easily find hundreds of cases on the forums by searching for "audi flickering headlight". i believe audi needs to recall these vehicles for the safety of the all drivers on the road. driving at night should not involve turning off your lights and restarting them to reset the computer. *tr

Front headlights flicker on either side and i get a headlight dipped error on my dash. as a result either right or left light goes out completely. problem occurs daily and the only way of turning lights on back again is to complete turn lights of off then on again. a safety issues when driving at night and early morning.

I purchased this 2005 audi a4 in august of 2007 and within the first few months of having the vehicle i was already having problems with it having to take it in and get repaired/serviced. not only was i dissatisfied that i bought a horrible car, because it was having recurring problems, but i find out after purchasing the vehicle the dealership sold me a quattro, but my audi is not a quattro, so i was mislead into buying a faulty vehicle.. my paperwork documentation says 2005 audi a4 quattro 1.8t so i had to pay to get towed out of the snow because the audi is only 2 wheel drive.. i will never ever purchase a vw/audi vehicle again and i always tell people don't get a vw/audi because they are horrible unreliable cars. i have put so much money into this junk audi that just constantly has problems, i could have bought a new car again by now . i'm very disappointed with vw/audi. i have wasted so much money on diagnostic repair checks, because the [xxx] check engine light repeatedly keeps coming on the dashboard. i can't get my car smog approved without the check engine light being off, so i am relentlessly dumping money i simply don't have into this pos audi. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

When driving down the city street or highway, i would get the "dipped light" warning on my display, the headlights would flicker and then shut off. i have had this checked at the service dept and no faults were found on more than one occasion initially. then, the headlight bulb was replaced at one point as advised by the service dept of the dealership. however, it did not solve the problem. i noticed that it occurs more frequently in cold weather. the only way to temporarily resolve it during driving is to pull over, turn lights off and turn back on. sometimes they would dip again after driving for a short distance and i would have to pull over again. i complained to aoa customer service in early 2013. i was told that unfortunately the vehicle was out of warranty and that i would receive a "courtesy partial reimbursement" of the cost of headlight bulb replacement. t i have not yet seen the check to date. the problem began within the first few years after purchase of the new vehicle and continue/repeats every winter for the last 7-8 years. i found many owners having the same problem in many online forums including this nhtsa database but it is disappointing that no recalls have been made thus far. this is a huge safety issue since the headlight would suddenly go off while driving. *tr

I drive a 2005.5 audi a4 2.0t. when i turn my headlights on nearly half the time the right headlight shakes, then flickers, then turns off only to turn back on a few seconds later and the process continues the entire drive. unless i turn the headlights from auto to off and then back to auto and it seems to fix the problem during this trip. i've taken the car to the audi dealer which i purchased from and they told me they fix it, the problem now the car is out of warranty. this problem still continues to this day. *tr

I own a 2005.5 audi a4 3.2 quattro. while driving, i constantly get a error message "dipped right headlight" and the headlight flickers then shuts off. i can get the headlight to come back on only if i turn off then on the headlights again which i believe is very dangerous when driving on the highway. took it to the dealer 3x and problem still not fixed. based on internet chats, it seems to be a common problem many people are having which audi has yet to find a solution to. it is an everyday safety concern. *tr

Bi-xenon driver side headlight goes off randomly while driving at any speeds. have to power off and on the headlights while driving to get the light to work again. this has been happening for years since i bought the car new. audi service was never able to admit to the problem or fix it on multiple visits for service on the car. huge safety issue... *tr

I drive a 2005.5 audi a4 2.0t. when i turn my headlights on the right headlight shakes, then flickers, and then turns off only to turn back on a few seconds later and the process continues the entire drive. this problem occurs every time i turn them on. this can cause a serious accident with my lights being turned off, every couple of minutes. i've taken the car to two audi dealerships and they told me they had fixed the problem by changing the headlight. the problem still continues to this day. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 audi a4. while driving approximately 45 mph, the headlights failed without warning. the failure recurred constantly. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that a heater was drying up the lights. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 150,000.
