While on the highway stuck in traffic, it was a stop and go at very slow speeds. when resuming the acceleration (while in normal from the dna ). i slowly began to accelerate, when i pressed the breaks the feeling on the pedal was abnormal and the car did not stop causing me to hit the vehicle in front of me. it felt as if the breaks did not fully engage, the car just kept going while only pressing the breaks which i repeat again felt as if they did not fully engage. all this happened while going at a very low speed no more than 20mph. no one was hurt as all this happened at a very slow speed. however it scares me to drive the vehicle now. not too long ago i had it in the service where they performed a fault with the sound system and a misaligned hood. i have also felt the breaks acting funny while coming to a stop light per say, it takes a while for the car to fully stop whether a soft press on the pedal or a hard one. there seems to be a "dead point" when stepping on the break pedal as well. we were able to drive the crushed giulia to the nearest shop. the other party who was hit didn't suffer much damages, on my car, both headlamps broke, hood crushed inwards and the bumper is trashed. i have expressed my concern with alfa romeo but never received a reply. on a side not i have been having constant electrical problems pop up randomly since i purchased the vehicle in 2017. all of which has been addressed by the alfa romeo dealership, however it has been in the service drive over 5 times since purchased. my vehicle has 13k miles on it.

The instrument cluster panel "crashed" and went black while the car was in motion during a drive at night. the lights and turn signals were also not working. this problem persisted for about 2 minutes and reoccurred 2 other times within a distance of 3 miles of operation. taken to dealer 2/14/19 for repair. car returned /15/19. problem reoccurred while in motion, daytime, no turn signals and towed to dealer. car returned 2/26/19. problem reoccurred 2/27/19 while in motion during day and lasted 2 min. car towed to dealer. car returned 3/27/19. also on return 2/26/19 and 3/28/19, side mirrors folded in when attempt was made to adjust with control knob, while in motion during day. car was turned off and switch appeared to reboot. repair was attempted to mirror controls after first incident but reoccurred upon first attempt to adjust on 3/28/19. car has had numerous other software recalls and repair attempts. dealership refuses to state that car is repaired and/or safe to operate.
The auto start/stop feature interferes without warning with the driver's attempt to turn the ignition off, and can make the driver believe the car is off when it is not. this can cause the vehicle to restart and move forward unexpectedly when the driver begins to exit the vehicle. experience: i entered the driveway and came to a stop. i pushed the ignition stop button and the car appeared to turn off as expected. in fact, the auto start/stop system had stopped the engine temporarily at almost the exact same moment i pressed the stop button. believing the ignition to be off i began to exit the car normally but as soon as i moved my foot from the brake the engine restarted and the vehicle moved forward unexpectedly, almost hitting the parked car in front of me. the auto start/stop system takes various factors into account when deciding when to pause the engine, but it frequently turns the engine off within one to three seconds after a stop -- the same amount of time a typical driver will be attempting to turn the vehicle off with no obvious visual or auditory clues as to what has turned off the engine (the driver or the auto start/stop system) the driver can be unaware that the car will restart and move forward when he takes his foot from the brake. this can be hazardous to the driver or passengers who may be exiting the car, and to pedestrians in front of the car. frequency of occurrence: two or three times weekly. *tt
I purchased this vehicle at the end of may 2017, after putting on about 500 mi within 4 weeks, a check engine light came on, i took it to the dealership, they kept it overnight, looked at it, and called the following day & said there was "something loose that needed to be tightened" and that the car was ready for pick up. i drove the car and parked it in my garage. the following day, i took the car out, turned it around and backed it up to park in front of my garage, i was going slowly (under 5 mph) the braked locked up and the car accelerated in reverse hitting my garage before i could stop it by turning off the engine. i called the dealership, but got no response. a few hours later i had a lunch appointment. the man i was meeting wanted me to take him for a short ride in the car, which i did. as we returned to the restaurant, i pulled into the parking space slowly, and engaged the brakes, again the car went into sudden acceleration, going over arborvitae trees and into a neighboring parking lot. the dealership was called and the car towed. on both of these occasions i was driving slowly, both times i had my foot on the brake and felt them lock as the car went into acceleration, and both times i had to turn off the car to get it to stop.
Car cluster reboots randomly while driving and fuel gauge / miles to empty radically jumps all over the place - they have attempted to fix 8 times with alfa engineers involved each time claiming it was fixed - attempted to go through stericycle they claimed they are not liable and will do nothing to correct. email from dealer indicates he has 4 others with the same issue [email protected] was rep at stericycle
