Description

Today was a big day! Put on my new Advan Racing 8.5" rims and Toyo Proxes R888 245/40/17 on all the way around. This is my track setup and I will keep my stock rims and oversized street tires for street use.

I was a little worried but the new tires do fit in the front! But just barely and precisely how I spec'd them. Rear wheels no problem just had to wire tie the brake sensor wire to insure they stay close to the calibers.

It was it close in front but it's almost the same clearance as the oversized tires I put on the stock rims earlier. Nothing rubs anywhere at all even when tires are turned to the locks. So I have been lucky twice.

The car handles like a madman. The front tires are massive and dig in so much it is uncanny. I'm actually scared to drive the car at anywhere near 80% anymore.

I went from 280 hardness street tires to 100 hardness R compound tires. What a difference and no more of that squealing tires song I've heard so much. 6000 RPM race mode launches barely squeal the tires now. They are just a huge lurch now.

Also with the new lightweight rims and titanium lug stud conversation I have saved over 12 pounds in unsprung weight. And that's even with big 245 width tires I have on.

The car sits close to an inch lower to the ground when I have this track tire setup on. So handling is amazing. The ride is pretty rough compared to my street tires. But I'm going to play with the inflation pressure to smooth them out a little if I drive them around town. But I am pretty sure this would not be a good daily driver set up.

And my track rear tires are 1 inch shorter than my street rear tires so I've gotten lower gearing. This lower gearing along with the unsprung weight savings really seems to make the car accelerate faster. I did some Track Addict app test runs to verify it. Very pleased with the results.

I'm estimating to cut my quarter-mile times down .3 or .4 seconds. This would give me a quarter-mile time of about 12.2 sea level equivalent. My 4C is almost an 11 second car! I'm going to dump some 100 octane racing fuel in there and I think I'll break the 11 second barrier or come real close.

And for road course racing and autocross I'm really going to benefit from that unsprung weight savings and lower gearing. I'll be faster out of every turn and also able to stop quicker. And having the exact same tire on all four corners means I can rotate front to back getting the most use out of my track tire use.

I really like how the Advan Racing rims look also. Have a look. The front tires look crazy they are so wide.

The photo with the three tires in it shows my new track tire that goes on all four corners and my street front tire and my street rear tire.

Going to go to the quarter-mile drag strip Saturday night and try to break the 11 second barrier!
