I am the original owner of a 2005 acura tl with 49,650 miles on it. what started as a hair line crack on the passenger side dashboard is now a series of spider web wall of cracks all throughout the dashboard, in the past few months. as of late, the cracks have extended to the passenger side airbag area. and now the passenger side airbag light intermentinly blinks on /off both with and without a passenger occupying the seat. this is not an of wear and tear parts issue but a defective material issue by acura. furthermore, it is now a safety issue whether the cracked dashboard will play in the malfunctioning in the deployment of the passenger side airbag. i am in fear of getting behind the wheel of my acura tl now that airbag light intermittently switches on/off at random since the appearance of the cracks on the dashboard.
Cracks in dashboard, right passenger side over airbag and glove box
The airbag seat belt sensor or light is on all the time it's common for these types of vehicles of 2004 to 2008. it is a safety issue that should be resolved, i was told it wasnt under warranty or a recall because the vehicle is older than 10 years, but clearly on the website it says under 15 years it should be covered. i wanted to clear this up with acura service department but they wanted to charge me about $600 for a diagnostic test and almost $2000 for reinstalling an airbag and sensor, which i saw online it's a recall but my cars vin says i dont have a recall. i already did a diagnostic test thru my mechanic and have all the codes that states it is a recall what can i do? i bought this car used and the airbag seat belt sensor light is always on.
Taktata recall - have a 2005 acura tl that has been parked winters and inside a garage. pampered, polished, acura service always. was driving down the road and noticed my dang dashboard has the crack that everyone is always talking about. i cant believe that a car of this price is having a dashboard crack. the dealership wants over 2000 to fix it. my other car is nearly 20 years old and not one blemish or crack in the dashboard and it too is a honda product. c'mon with all the complaints and issues around the airbag do the right thing acura and good will fix this thing or you will lose not only me but the other 4 family members i got turned onto honda vehicles.
Car is leaking oil gradually. puddle in amber brown color on the garage floor
The dashboard in our acura suddenly had a crack in it from front to back on one side of the passenger side airbag, then a few days later the same size of crack appeared on the other side of the passenger side airbag. this car only has a bit over 40,000 miles on it even though it is a 2005 and has always been garaged and well cared for. we are concerned because the cracks are on each side of the airbag, because they appeared so suddenly, and because this brand is part of the taketa airbag recall although this model year was not recalled. we feel this is a safety issue, especially after by sheer accident we discovered that there are many complaints about this same issue in this brand and model and year of this car. another thing which concerns us is that this car was purchased and has always "lived" in fl. we are the original owners. the cracks appeared when the car was stationary.
Cracking dashboard
I am the original owner of this vehicle, and have routine maintenance performed on it at regular intervals. on july 23, 2018, approximately 4:15pm, i was exiting via reverse from a parking space at a local shopping center. i shifted the car into drive, proceeded forward at a speed of 3mph, for less than ten feet to make a slight left turn, when there was the sound of breaking metal, and the car came to a halt. the car was in drive, foot on gas, but would not move. i struggled to shift the gear into park, then restarted. the car would not go into drive, with great difficulty i got it into reverse, then rolled backwards into a handicapped parking space. the gear was now stuck in reverse, and key was locked in ignition. i immediately applied the emergency brake, turned on hazard lights, and exited the vehicle. i placed phone calls to a towing company, and my mechanic. upon inspection, it was determined "the driver's front axle assembly snapped in two. the axle shaft had rusted underneath the vibration damper. the passenger front axle ...
The passenger dashboard has huge cracks that extend to where the airbag is located. i have always taken good care of my car and it actually looks new but these cracks are manufacture defects. the cracks are more than 10" long.
Large cracks have developed throughout the material used in the interior of the vehicle including all of the dashboard. i am concerned that this will prevent the airbag from properly deploying.
Failuer of the front aluminum frame was observed on my car during a state inspection by an observant technician. the compliance bushing in the front strut assembly fails without giving the driver an audible or driving signal. this creates metal on metal contact between the strut and aluminum frame - wearnig thru the aluminum frame arm extension which supports the metal rod to the wheel. the aluminum frame will eventally fail causing loss of vehicle control. this would be life threatening at highways speeds. i had to have the entire front frame assembly replaced to mitigate this risk.
Dashboard cracking.

Passenger dash cracked around edge of airbag. concerned that acura is not handling as a recall. they have replaced some dashes, but others they say the dash is a thinner material therefore it may crack. i believe this manufacturer defect is compromising safety as it relates to my passengers in the vehicle.
The dashboard of my 2005 acura tl has developed four major cracks. two of them are over the passenger airbag compartment. the passenger airbag warning light appears whenever someone sits in the passenger seat. the acura dealer refuses to correct the problem unless i pay the full repair cost. i have been the sole owner of this vehicle. it has never been in an accident.
