The problem i'm having with my 2014 passat is that one day out the blue my airbag light came on. i parked and turn of the car thinking that would solve the problem. when i started my car back up, the airbag is still on and now the horn and also the buttons on the steering wheel isn't working anymore. i have not hit anything or had any accidents period. i see many complaints from vw owners about the same issue....but i don't see any recalls about this problem. this is a big issue for me because i live in illinois and my car horn doesn't work.
Airbag sign came on and the horn stopped working, car was found to have a faulty clock spring, after replacement of clock spring, there was a short and the clock spring had to be replaced yet again. air bag sign came on again and there was another short in a wire, clock spring had to be replaced three times. faulty wires and clock spring.
The airbag control module went bad on this vehicle when the car was only five years old. volkswagen has recalls on other vehicles air bag control modules yet has not issued one for this make and model yet. volkswagen is charging over $800 for parts and labor to fix the control module. this is not a component that should be breaking so soon on these vehicles and volkswagen should honor replacing them.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 volkswagen passat. the contact stated that an abnormal grinding and clicking sound came from the steering wheel. on occasion, the steering wheel was difficult to turn. the vehicle was taken to steve white volkswagen (100 duvall dr, greenville, sc 29607, (864) 288-8300) where it was diagnosed that a new clockspring was needed. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that they would not assist since the vin was not included in a recall. the failure mileage was 121,000.
Air bag light on for driver airbag and made everything on steering wheel stop working
Airbag light stays illuminated. none of the steering wheel electricsl works, including the horn.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 volkswagen passat. while the contact attempted to turn the steering wheel in a parking lot, a clicking noise was heard and the air bag indicator illuminated. a week later, the horn seized. the vehicle was taken to volkswagen of murrieta (951-249-7072, located at 41300 date st, murrieta, ca 92562) where it was determined that there was no recall. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that there was no warranty. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the failure mileage was approximately 126,000.
Backing out of driveway, slight clicking in the steering column when turning the steering wheel to the right. beep from dash- airbag failure/warning. now steering wheel buttons and horn are not operational.
Clock spring failure. clicking in steering wheel while turning car, air bag error light came on and none of the controls on the steering wheel work.
In mid-october 2018, i began experiencing some issues with the steering wheel of my car. my controls on my steering wheel were complete off and the horn was not working. then suddenly, the airbag system icon came on and none of my steering wheel controls worked. i immediately contacted my local volkswagen dealer and let them know the issue. they performed a diagnostic test and confirmed that the cause of this was due to the 'clockspring' giving out and the airbag resistance being too high. given that this could not be a part of normal wear and tear for a vehicle in my eyes, i did some research and found that there is an open investigation with vw for 2010-2014 air bag clock spring failures due to debris getting into that area. i notified the dealer of this information and they stated there was nothing they could do and to take it up with vw corporate. i had to pay out of pocket for something that wasn't my doing and this is unacceptable. therefore, i am submitting this complaint for an investigation, recoupment, and time spent trying to figure out what was wrong.
Took my car in because i had no horn, no air bags, and the steering wheel sounded 'funny'. i had a little over 39,000 when this all happened. i was told it was the clock spring. apparently there was a recall for this for the 2014 passats, but my vin number was not included. they can't tell me why. clearly, my car was included in the defective vehicles!! it is a very expensive part to replace.
My steering wheel was affected, no horn, loss of air bags, locked trunk. was diagnosed with clock spring problem (previously reported). these problems seemed to appear randomly and not all at once. is under your forced recall, but was allowed to exclude certain vehicles??? had to fix it for around $500. not previously reported--on the way home--i no longer had a cruise control. vw charged me $143.50 just to diagnose it and tell me it would cost $720.97 to replace it. i have already replaced the air bag. also, last year my car started spontaneously locking and relockting my car while driving.. i took it to vw. they said it needed replacing (without diagnosis). they couldn't work me in so i left. the problem just disappeared ???
All of the controls on the steering wheel have stopped working and the airbag light is on. this is when the vehicle is stationary and moving. vehicle has very low mileage.
Airbag clockspring broke again after volkwagen replaced it. now getting charged a second time for the clockspring that a volkwagen dealership replaced less than a year ago. it has only been 25,000 miles since we paid the $500 to get it replaced the first time, since my vin number was skipped in the recall. all i was doing to cause the clockspring to break was turning into my drive.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 volkswagen passat. the contact stated that the air bag warning indicator illuminated, which was a safety concern. the contact researched the matter and found that the vehicle was manufactured on november 21, 2013 and should be included in nhtsa campaign number: 15v483000 (air bags). the vehicle was taken to northtown volkswagen (1135 millersport highway, amherst, ny 14226, (888) 685-3064) where it was diagnosed that the clock spring needed to be repaired. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer stated that the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 15v483000 (air bags) and provided case number: 181168832. the failure mileage was 32,000.
Takata recall i have been receiving recall notices for my 2014 volkswagen passat for the past year year. i made an appointment with my volkswagen dealer in march of 2018, brought the car in so they could fix the recall. after taking the day off, and waiting for the car, i was told that the dealership did not have the correct part to fix it, and they could not complete the repair. i was told i would be contacted as soon as they received the part. last month, i contacted the dealership to inquire about the recall and was told they still did not have the part. i contacted volkswagen, they put me in touch with another dealer, i contacted that dealer. they also did not have the part. again i was told, we will contact you when we have the part. that was over a month ago. yesterday, i received another recall notice. how do get my recall fixed if the dealerships do not have the parts? do i have to wait until the car implodes? please help!
Airbag cover is separating from the center of the steering wheel and the horn randomly goes off. consulted with local auto parts store and was advised that the vehicle is not safe to drive because airbag could go off at any time. volkswagen states that because vin is not included in takata recall that they will not consider any action. vehicle horn has activated both while stationary and while vehicle was on roadway.
Clockspring went bad, no airbags or horn. i was driving while this happened.
Takata recall- had the recall fixed. clock spring is broken again- airbag light is back on and steering wheel controls are no longer working. vw says "tough luck" it's not covered a second time even though this fix didn't even last a year. car is currently in the shop for a host of other issues surrounding the emissions recall and sensors that aren't working yet again.
Clock spring in the steering wheel broke and the car's horn, air bag, and buttons on steering wheel no longer work because of this. made a clicking noise in the steering wheel about a week before completely breaking while trying to reverse in parking lot. volkswagen dealership confirmed it was clock spring that was broken and it was not covered in the previous recall.
The clockspring in my steering wheel has failed and a warning message is displayed when starting the car and also the airbag warning light remains on. in addition, due to the clockspring failure the steering wheel mounting controls do not work. i am concerned about the safety of this airbag situation. i did contact volkswagen group of america and the have communicated that they would not repair the vehicle as it is not under warranty or part of a recall (case number 180447041). i did learn that there was a similar recall for the same make, model vehicle that i have (recall # 15v-483), however, my specific vehicle serial number is not included. all indications show that this is a known issue and defect and i would expect this should be fixed do to the history and risk of this issue with the clockspring/airbag.
1.faulty clock spring resulting in no working horn or airbag 2. call stalls and won't start intermittently. dealer can't find issues but i think it's related to the faulty fuel pump recall
Takata recall, i verified there was a recall april of 2017 and immediately i called my vw dealer to schedule the maintenance. i was put on a wait list. i called back september 2017 and was advised that i was 10th down on the list and that they were waiting for the parts. i called back again 03/16/2018 and was advised i was still on the list and that they just ordered parts, there was a 4 day wait to get them, and then they work from the top of the list down. it's been over 2 years since the recall was issued and i have yet to receive service. i drive my vehicle daily to and from work, school, and daycare with my children. to this date i have not had an accident involving my airbags.
Tl* takata recall. the contact owns a 2014 volkswagen passat. the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 18v148000 (air bags). the contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. tony volkswagen (94-1299 ka uka blvd, waipahu, hi 96797, (808) 680-7170) was contacted and confirmed that the parts were not available for the recall remedy. the manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. the contact had not experienced a failure. parts distribution disconnect.
The airbag light has come on, horn no longer works and the controls on the steering wheel do not work. from what i can tell it is a failure of the clock spring. took it into dealer for recall on vehicle and was told they do not have the parts or instructions yet to fix it.
The horn, airbag on drivers side, and bluetooth. all the components in the steering wheel stopped working. the airbag light came on in the dashboard, and the rest stopped working after a few days of light clicking noise from the steering wheel when turning. i had to take it for repair 3/13/18.
Clock spring broke in the car, 2014 model with 53k miles on it. wife was just driving one day hear a snap and noticed the air bag light was on and horn and other button on steering wheel were not working.
Takata inflator replaced, 2 months later, while driving, and turning the corner at low speed, on a city street, into my subdivision at approximately 3-5 miles per hour, during a snow storm. the air bag light illuminates, hear crunching sound coming from steering column, immediately following, i have no horn or steering wheel control buttons. i now hear the same crunching sound coming from the steering column every time i turn the wheel. called dealer, advised it sounds like the clock switch which commonly fails and would cost around $900 to repair and was not under warranty, since i had 40k at the time of incident. i was advised that my air bag will not work without repair.
In august of 2017, my airbag light came on and my horn stopped working. there was also a clicking sound when turning the steering wheel. i took the vehicle to volkswagen and was informed that the clock spring had failed and needed to be replaced. after conducting some research, i found that other 2014 passats had been recalled for the same exact issue. my vin was not covered under the recall, and so i had to pay out of pocket for a new clock spring. i believe that the volkswagen recall was not broad enough to cover all vehicles affected. i reported this to the nhtsa at the time of the incident. however, about 6 months later, my vehicle began having the same issues. i was informed that the second clock spring had failed and needed to be replaced. because the part was new, volkswagen covered the repairs. i did not report this second occurrence of clock spring failure at the time. i am reporting the re-occurrence of the clock spring failure now, as i still hope the initial recall will be expanded and that i will get refunded from replacing it the first time. i hope this additional information can help with any ongoing investigations. i am providing documentation of both instances of clock spring failure in my 2014 passat.
My vehicle has a recall that when taken to volkswagen dealer has not been complete, also after programing the transmission my vehicle skips gears..
Turned car on to pull out of a parking spot in a parking lot, hear loud crack, airbag light came on, now steering wheel buttons don't work, horn doesn't work, and i hear something rattling around in my steering wheel and it makes noise when i turn
I am a dod civilian posted overseas in south korea. i took my vehicle into get serviced at the volkswagen service station in seongnam (autoplatz bundang, seoul, south korea with a copy of my recall and i even translated what needed serviced. they even had the guarantee to service recall advertisement posted on their desk. however, they told me that they are unable to replace my takota air bags, despite the recall. they said they had issues with importing the airbags and were unable to service my vehicle at that time. they told me call back in march and check back then to see if they had any airbags then. however, i am due to ship my vehicle in february and will move back to the us in march 2018. i complained and said that i will report them as a certified vw service station that is refusing to service my recall. they apologized and said sorry that they could not replace my airbags at that time and i'd have to call back later. i asked if i could schedule a time to come back to do it then, once they had airbags, and they said no. that i would just have to keep calling to check.
I was turning right at a speed of 30 when i heard a loud pop sound and the air bag light went on and all components on steering wheel stopped working. the horn does not work either. i brought car to vw dealer the same day and they ran a diagnostic test and said i need a new clockspring. i have heard many passats have this issue but my cars vin was not on the recall list. it's a safety hazard. now i have a car with a broken clockspring. amongst many other vw owners. please help us
Front driver airbag fault light in on, vehicle horn does not work, when turning steering wheel there is clicking sound. this is similar to recall number 1v483000 dated 08/04/2015 but my vehicle is not on recall list
Takata recall i received a notice about the recall last year and contacted the nearest vw dealership in redwood city (http://www.boardwalkvolkswagen.com) on 12/11/17. they told me they'd put me on a waitlist for the replacement parts. i've called every week since then to see if the parts have finally arrived but it's been over a month now (1/15/18) and there's still no updates or concrete timeline for fixing the issue.
The vehicle has a bad clock spring (airbag light is on and not controls on the steering wheel are functioning). the clock spring has been replaced twice at the dealership (march 2015 & july 2013).
I have a 2014 vw passat-car went in for a recall for airbags. (vw is saying that it is not takata recall) at the time my car was taken in, there were no problems with it. had the recall completed and maybe weeks later my clock spring goes out (took a right turn, heard a click, and the "seatbelt airbag malfunction" light turned on) all the controls on my steering wheel go out, including the horn. i take it it to vw in scottsdale shortly after this happened and they told me that it is not related, not covered, and that my car was not part of the takata recall ..(on their website it states 2012-2014 passat included in the reacall) the service manager i spoke with said that he has never heard of the clock spring going out on its own. little fishy how nothing is wrong with my car, i get the recall done, and weeks after my clock spring goes out (which is related to the airbag!) and told me it would be about $875 to fix! my car has only 58,000 miles on it.
Steering wheel clock spring defective, disabling air bag and other controls. vw has recalled this condition on other us-built 2014 passat models, just not mine, since the recall is vin-specific, and by chance, doesn't include my particular vehicle.
I got in an accident on the interstate back in the summer of 2017.. i hit a deer going 70 mph. airbags went off and the body of my car was obviously damaged. after that my car has had oil leaks, break issues, "air bag errors", and way more to list.
Takata recall. i received a recall from vw for the takata airbag. in the description, on cars.com, it says "in the affected vehicles, debris may contaminate the air bag clock spring, a spiral wound, flat cable that keeps the air bag powered while the steering wheel is being turned. this contamination may tear the cable and result in a loss of electrical connection to the driver's frontal air bag. consequence a loss of electrical connection to the driver's frontal air bag will prevent the air bag from deploying in the event of a vehicle crash, increasing the risk of injury." this is exactly what has happened to my vehicle. nothing on my steering wheel works, not even my horn. i went to vw, and they replaced the takata air bag, but did not replace the broken clock spring because they say my car was not included in the recall for the clock spring. i think this is a major safety concern. i was told that my driver side airbag will not deploy in the event of an accident. one of the reasons i purchased this car was for the airbags and the safety features. how is there not a recall on my vehicle. it did exactly what said "may happen."
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 volkswagen passat. upon starting the vehicle, the air bag indicator illuminated and the horn failed to sound. on other occasions, the steering wheel clicked when turned. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the clock spring failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was also taken to savannah volkswagen (50 eisenhower dr, savannah, ga 31406) where the diagnosis was confirmed. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 15v483000 (air bags). the approximate failure mileage was 50,000.
Takata recall: i work for the u.s. army in germany. i purchased my u.s. specification vw passat through the military car sales program. when i received the recall notification for the airbags i booked an appointment with my local vw dealer to have the airbags replaced. we took the car for the appointment and was told by the dealership they could not replace the airbags of an american specification car. i had a german attorney call the dealership to try and find a way to have the problem resolved and was ultimately told it was impossible. the work around was to have a memorandum prepared when the time comes to ship the vehicle saying the defective auto will be repaired upon return to the u.s.. the problem with this is my job is here and i have no set date to return to the u.s.. my family is forced to drive a vehicle with airbags that can kill us. i can't trade or sell the vehicle because it has a known defect that i can't get repaired in germany. i need vw to fix this problem. at this point i would prefer they take the car back. the vw website has one little paragraph dealing with military members and the solution they provide does not help us because again, we do not have a return date. the 1-800# is always busy and vw germany believes it is quite incapable of having an airbag shipped from the u.s. to repair the vehicle. i do not want to drive this vehicle any longer and would appreciate assistance in getting the car returned to vw. thank you for your time and attention.
Airbag clock spring broke while i was driving . why wasn't my vehicle covered under recall for the airbag clock spring recall number 15v483000? obviously more vehicles are affected. my airbag and instrument controls do not work now due to this safety issue.
Tl* takata recall. the contact owns a 2014 volkswagen passat. the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 16v078000 (air bags); however, the part for the recall repair was unavailable. the contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. the burlington volkswagen dealer stated that parts were not available. the manufacturer informed the contact that the recall was not active at the moment and they were on the waiting list for the repair. the contact had not experienced a failure. vin tool confirms parts not available.
I have a recalled takata air bag in my vehiclke. i dodged a dog in the road and hit the guard rail where it is buried in the ground. my passet traveled 15-20 feet up the gaurd rail. the car was very damaged and my air bag did not deploy. the state patrolman and the tow truck were confused why the airbag didn't deploy. i was in motion about 75 ft from where i turned left onto the jhwy 96. the speed limit is 45mph. i as going about 20 mph. i turned from a county street onto co 96.
2014 volkswagen passat was diagnosed with failure of the steering wheel clock spring resulting in loss of function for airbag, horn, and steering wheel control buttons. airbag light was illuminated, and horn/buttons did not work. i took the vehicle in for repair right away. my vin was not included in the existing recall (vw 69l2, nhtsa 15v-483) even though my issue appeared to be exactly the same concerns and symptoms as described in the existing recall notice. the current recall includes 2014 volkswagen passat cars manufactured in the us, but my vehicle was excluded. i had the vehicle repaired at a volkswagen dealership (momentum volkswagen of jersey village, houston, tx) at my cost of $544.01. date of repair was 05-jul-2017, vehicle mileage 80200.
Takata recall i would like to know why status is still 'remedy not yet available".
My airbag light is on because my airbag clock spring has torn, which has resulted in a loss of electrical connection to the driver's frontal air bag. the steering wheel makes a clicking noise when turning after the airbag light illuminated to indicate an electrical failure.
Tamara recall the risks associated with this recall include serious injury and death to the passengers in the vehicle. i was notified of this recall on 6/19/17 by a serviceman at a dealership. i was notpreviously notified by the manufacturer. i hav recently learned that this recall was issued in 2/2016. i have since made the decision to purchase this vehicle from a lease. information about this recall may have impacted my decision to purchase the vehicle. regardless, i believe the associated risks are serious enough that an open recall for 17 + months is dangerous and simply unacceptable.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 volkswagen passat. while driving 55 mph, the horn failed to work and the air bag warning indicator illuminated. the vehicle was taken to the local dealer (bob penkhus volvo mazda volkswagen; 1101 motor city dr, colorado springs, co 80905; (719) 473-4100) where it was diagnosed that the air bag clock spring needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 16v078000 (air bags). the part to do the repair was unavailable. the contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. the manufacturer was contacted at 800-822-8987 and stated that the vehicle was not included in the recall and the contact had to pay for the repair. the failure mileage was 70,000.
