Tl* the contact owns a 2010 volkswagen jetta. the contact stated that while driving 60 mph the vehicle stalled. he was able to restart the vehicle shortly thereafter. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnosis. the dealer stated that the fuel system needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was not contacted. the failure and the current mileage was 119,000.
While exiting a parking at a stop sign, when accelerating out past the stop sign at approximately 10 mph the car's engine suddenly lost power and died. after the vehicle once again returned to a complete stop, i was able to restart the engine after putting the car into park. taken into dealership 10 days later for schedule service and maintenance; nothing out of the ordinary was found. *tr
While driving 65 mph on the freeway in oakland, ca, the engine malfunction light came on, my car began to slow down, and as soon as i exited the freeway the car stalled and stopped altogether, and would not restart. i was towed to the oakland vw dealership. they informed me that the fuel pump had failed, and had to replace the fuel pump, filter, fuel lines, etc. the dealer said that there were shards of metal throughout the fuel lines. this appears related to nhtsa engineering analysis ea11-003. *tr
First incidence: driving 45 mph, glow plug light starts flashing, car goes into limp mode. drive slowly home. call dealership, told to recycle (turn off/on). if light goes away should be okay they said. took to dealer to check out to be sure. they found nothing. a week later was on the highway and needed to accelerate and flashing light and limp mode again. pulled over, turned off and on. drove slow to the dealer, car very sluggish. it is at the dealer now and they are going to replace the high pressure fuel pump (hpfp). *tr
My 2010 jetta tdi broke down on me while i was three hours away from my home. the service rep. said he has had a few cars come in with the same problem. he stated it was due to bad fuel or water in the fuel line. i know i had put diesel in when i filled up that morning. he stated we had probably received bad fuel when we had filled up. we were on a road trip (8hrs one way) and i had driven about 5 hours before it died!!! we were traveling at approx. 65 mph when the flashing glow plug light indicator began to flash. the car then started to lose acceleration and we pulled over where the engine finally shut down and it would not restart. i had to have the car towed to the closest vw dealer. they are replacing the entire fuel system. how am i supposed to know what fuel station has good diesel? i know the fault was not mine. i can't afford to be without my car again for 2 to 3 weeks. as soon as i get my car back i will be trading it in even though i am upside down on my loan. i loved my tdi but with this issue always being a threat i will not be able to recommend this car to anyone. vw needs to fix this issue. *tr
When i started my car, a 2010 jetta sedan tdi, it started making a strange noise, but still ran. i tried to drive it over to the volkswagen dealer which was approximately 2 miles away. i pulled out onto the highway and achieved a speed of approximately 30mph. the car continued to make the noise and began to lose power within a half mile. i pulled into the parking lot of a shopping center at which time the engine died and would not restart. the car had to be towed to the volkswagen dealer, wallace imports of johnson city, tn. it took them approximately 1 1/2 weeks to get the parts in and repair the vehicle. the service representative explained to my husband that there was a catastrophic failure of the high pressure fuel pump, which resulted in metal fragments contaminating the entire fuel system. as a result, he was told that every part which came in contact with the fuel had to be replaced, including the fuel tank, fuel lines, filters, fuel injectors, and many others. there was a two page list of the parts used to fix my car. my concern is that this could happen again resulting in an unsafe situation. further, we also have 2010 jetta tdi sportswagen and have concerns of the same problem occurring at highway speeds since my husband routinely make round trips of 230 miles at least twice a week traveling mainly on the interstate. *tr
Jetta tdi, check engine light and glow plug warning light followed by reduced power. vehicle ran for several miles before stalling. would not restart. dealer reported failure of the high pressure fuel pump and metal in the fuel filter. *tt
While driving on the interstate at approx 72 mph, the vehicle suddenly lurched, the indicator light for the glow plug came on, and then all power was lost as the engine stalled. i was able to safely maneuver through traffic to the emergency lane and stop. the vehicle would not restart. i had refueled the vehicle approx 168 miles earlier and had been running at highway speeds the entire time until the vehicle malfunction. i have a 2010 vw jettasportwagen tdi. diagnostic tests run by the vw dealer two days later revealed that the high pressure fuel pump had disintegrated, sending metal debris into the fuel filter and throughout the fuel system. the vehicle had undergone a 40k service just three days prior by a vw dealer. *tr
I'm was driving up hills with 38 mph notice that glow plug light flashing the car lost all power almost instantly. fortunately i was able to managed the car to emergency lane. lucky that i'm not on the freeway and i didn't have my 6 years old son with me at that time. this is a safety issue that we need to address to vwgoa so they can do a recall. you can find 100 or more same failures at www.tdiclub.com, some of the member had to replaced the hpfp twice. dealer found hpfp failures. metal found in the fuel pump due to hpfp self-destruction. repaired and paid for by vw. replaced the whole fuel system, tank, 3 fuel pumps, all lines and hoses. *tr
Check engine light came on while driving jetta tdi to/from work. took it to dealer and they reported it was the high pressure fuel sensor (vehicle storing fault p0191). they replaced the sensor (thinking it faulty), but the following day the check engine light came on again. returned the vehicle to the dealer and they reported the same fault. dealer kept vehicle for investigation. their investigation revealed metal shavings in the fuel system. the vehicle remained with the dealer between 03/23-03/27 wherein they replaced the entire fuel system. on the morning of 06/29 went to start car and could not get it to start. vehicle was towed to dealer and the replacement high pressure fuel pump was determined faulty. *js
I have experienced repeated problems with my tdi manual transmission jetta sportwagen. within the first month of buying this vehicle, i experienced a lurching sensation which would come and go randomly especially when in third gear. brought it to the dealer, but they couldn't replicate. this has continued sporadically for over a year and a half. the vehicle also sometimes idles very roughly when at a stop. more recently, in march 2012, the vehicle stalled twice while driving at about 30 - 40 mph and also now in may 2012 it has done this again. there are never any warning lights that go on, only the engine light once it has actually stalled. brought it to the dealer everytime this has happened and they are never able to replicate the situation, so they send me home with it. i was very upset with this and confronted the dealership about this when i realized how many others have had similar problems. they said they couldn't do anything because they couldn't find anything to fix. they said they would notify volkswagen and i called them as well and have now been given a case number. this is a serious issue and needs to be addressed. there is potential for major life threatening situations if a car stalls while driving in the middle of traffic. i feel like i am driving around in a time bomb, because you never know when it is going to happen. *tr
Engine sputtered and quit while driving on the interstate at normal speed. was able to coast to a stop safely due to proximity of exit ramp. would not restart. vehicle towed to volkswagen dealership where they claimed fuel contamination, resulting in failure of the high pressure fuel pump. repairs were not covered by warranty because they claimed fuel contamination was the cause. i have the fuel receipt from the previous fill-up where it shows bp diesel was used. i have complete service records and maintain the vehicle in perfect condition. this is a serious problem with the design of volkswagen's fuel pump. *tr
The car affected is a 2010 vw jetta tdi. ever since i've owned the car, it has had an issue with running ruff or stalling out. at 30,426 miles i had the dealer look at the vehicle. they ran a diagnostic and test drive with no issues found. this enough for it to be noticeable, but no symptoms are present. i brought the car in again for the same issue on 12/8/14 at 83748 miles, but this time there was an esp error that flashed in the mdi display and then went away. the dealer could not verify the customer complaint. the service manager also stated that he had a similar vehicle with the same problem and the could also not be diagnosed. at the time the dealer told me that i could have the software upgraded and that would be a charge to me or i could have the injectors changed out and that would be covered under the extended warranty. the were charging according to how they were going to fix the problem, not on the issue itself. vw sent me the paperwork in april of 2015 to get my money back. the dealer recommended changing the mdi display, but was not sure this would fix the problem. my concern is that there is an issue that volkswagen cannot diagnose that could possibly turn into a safety issue with the car stalling. *tr
I purchased my brand new vw jetta from the dealership lot. less than 4 weeks later when the car was in the driveway i started it, and as i pressed the gas down the car began to move (in a sputtering/jerking type of movemen)t but it was not able to go more than 7 feet before it stalled out,, and the rpm's were high and the car just moved like it was not able to properly accelerate, it stalled out before the end of my drive way. i started it again and it drove properly, this exact incident occurred at least1- 2 times a week on a cold start. i took it to dealership, nothing found on diagnostics.then at least every 1-2 months i took it to dealership, no proof on diagnostics .next a recall & work was done. same problem occurred again and again. took it back. they said they could not find a solution because its not repeating the stalling when its at dealership. i am still having the issue of my car stalling out when driving, it is a safety issue. it is dangerous driving a car that stalls out while you are on the road. since the cold start issues i have also had it stall out on the road, in an intersection. this car is still repeating the stalling. i cannot get any answers on how to fix it due to no "proof" on diagnostics check. i feel unsafe in my car. it starts to accelerate then shuts off. this is not acceptable and hasnt ever been properly fixed even thoughvw corporate has a case on the issues of my car. *tt
Vehicle regularly experiences loss of propulsion after cresting hills. varying pressure on the throttle pedal produces no change. incidents last approximately two seconds before normal operation returns. does not stall. *tr
2010 volkswagen sportwagen tdi. car suffered dozens of loss of power incidents, several left the car without power at freeway speeds. repeat visit to dealer did not resolve problem, dealer was aggressive that i was mis-fueling the car with gasoline instead of diesel, which never happened once (i have full receipts for entire vehicle ownership). latest incident left me without power or effective steering on i-5 bridge between oregon and washington, nearly causing an accident. dealer and vw would not answer any questions, and claimed if they could not reproduce the issue, i was on my own. i suspect the high pressure fuel pump had an internal defect, that didn't lead to complete failure/destruction, but would intermittently throw errors causing the car to stall or lose power. *tr
