Tl* the contact owns a 2010 volkswagen jetta. the contact stated that while driving 30 mph, the transmission overheat warning light illuminated on the instrument panel. the contact moved off the roadway and restarted the vehicle, as it resumed properly. the vehicle was taken to a dealer for inspection where they advised the contact that the transmission needed to be replaced. the dealer also stated that while performing an inspection of the vehicle, he noticed that the wires that were connected to the alternator were burned and the fuse block needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not contacted. the failure mileage was 78,000.

I was driving on the highway and experienced an extreme loss of power and flashing yellow check engine light. after stopping the vehicle stalled and wouldn't restart on multiple attempts. brought vehicle to dealer who says it needs the entire fuel system replaced, due to metal shavings in the fuel delivery system caused by a bad hpfp. originally vw said it would be covered under warranty, but now are citing biofuel as a reason for the failure. i have used only b5 which complies with vw's standard policies but they have stated they believe the reason to be owner negligence and have a higher blend than b5. i only put in what the fuel stations tell me they have, i don't test my fuel before i put it in. this seems like a smoke and mirrors play by vw, attempting not to pay the claim and trying to have me shell out $10k for the repair. seems pretty ridiculous for a 2year old vehicle with such low mileage. *tr

I have a 2012 vw jetta tdi which has been acting very strange in the past 2 years. recently it has been more often and the dealer stated that this is normal. as a result, i have noticed that when the car is put in park, it wants to keep moving and going forward with a very loud clunk!!! the car is only 3 years old, although it has 172,000 miles, it is supposed to be more reliable than this. i drive 100% highway miles, no city stop and go. this has been an issue since the car was about 1 year old. the dealer is aware of this issue and stated that there is no recall on the transmission, therefore they cannot honor a repair. in addition, there are times when the indicator where it says park, drive, sport, located on the dash board, goes blank and the vehicle stays in 1st gear and will not shift. i am very concerned and have had no support whatsoever from the dealer, who should stand behind the product sold. *tr

High pressure fuel pump failed traveling 60mph, car begins to stumble (more often then every hundred miles-now less than every 5 miles), engine almost dies out multiple times, rpm drops to near zero, check engine light turns on, hundreds of mini metal flakes found in fuel system/fuel canister . car driven to dealer (showed picture of metal in fuel canister). hamilton imports (vw dealer) had initial tech on 081412 diagnosis problem as "normal for diesel fuel." called 081512 to service manager john, left message, he replied stating metal in fuel is "normal." on 081612 email vw of america, in regards to the problem, call from service adviser on 081712 and are looking further into the problem. later that day, called service adviser, they ordered a complete fuel system and apologized for the initial delay and not fixing the car correctly. received a call from the dealer, 082812, the car is ready for pickup. a complete new fuel system was installed (injectors, high pressure fuel pump(failed), fuel rail, electric fuel pump in tank, all piping). *tr

While exiting a parking at a stop sign, when accelerating out past the stop sign at approximately 10 mph the car's engine suddenly lost power and died. after the vehicle once again returned to a complete stop, i was able to restart the engine after putting the car into park. taken into dealership 10 days later for schedule service and maintenance; nothing out of the ordinary was found. *tr

While driving on the highway with cruise control engaged at/around speed limit, i noticed the rpms jumping and could feel the car jerking, as if some kind of acceleration/deceleration was happening. i also notice rpms jump 50 up/down while idling. this seems to happen when driving down hills on cruise control, more prevalent in colder weather. no loss of control has occurred, but appears to be issue that is slowly worsening. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 volkswagen jetta. the contact was traveling 70 mph with the cruise control activated when the transmission lost power. the check engine light illuminated after the failure. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where the dealer confirmed that the transmission needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was not contacted. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure and the current mileage was 92,517. updated 08/07/12*lj updated 08/07/12

Car has had issues 4k on. car would accelerate on its own from 70 mph to 75 like wide open throttle. car will quit at highway speeds 70 mph (no power steering, no brakes, just the service engine now and glowplug light are on flashing,(50k on) this has happened 4 times, car will quit making a right hand turn hitting pothole (50k on). total dpf system has been changed out two times from two dealers , 3 total with original. erratic egr signal was always tripping check engine light, some faults but not all are exhaust gas recirc flow insufficient detected sporadic, cylinder 2 injector n31 open circuit sporadic, exhaust aftertreatment fuel supply control performance sporadic, throttle actuator control motor circuit range/performance sporadic, navigation antenna (gps) short to earth. dealers have spent over 20 thousand dollars parts and labor, in 4 different shops over 83 days (overnight), over 95 including reading codes only. out of warranty expenditures over 1 thousand dollars so far. 69,000 miles and the dealer tech has no idea how to fix this car, he started out saying he has never seen a car he can't fix. i have over 50 pages of dealer documented faults and repairs, reprogramming ecu, was replaced this year to see if that would fix problems, some gone but now major issues listed above are happening. replaced diesel particulate filter 2 times, replaced o2 sensors, replaced egr sensors and gaskets 2 times, replace throttle position sensor, replaced pressure sensor. only item not replaced is the wiring harness. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 volkswagen jetta. while traveling 30 mph the contact noticed the vehicle suddenly shifted into neutral gear and would not shift into any other gear. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where the contact was informed that the failure could not be reproduced. no repairs have been made to the vehicle. the current and failure mileage was 50,600.

I have had several issues in the past month with my vehicle either stalling immediately after start (while clutch still depressed) or shortly after driving. volkswagen has identified this as an issue with the intercooler; there is a flaw in the design that is letting water into the air pipes which is collecting and freezing. three times this happened in traffic, one time while crossing a lane with oncoming traffic going 50mph. vw drained the intercooler two weeks ago and sent me on my way because the part is being redesigned and is on backorder. a week later my car failed shortly after leaving my driveway, stranding me on the side of the road. i had to have it towed back to my driveway. vw dealership and customer care were closed for the weekend. monday i had to take a tow truck ride 1.5 hours to the dealership. they've drained it again and want me to pick it up but have acknowledged the issue is not fixed. they acknowledge it is a known issue, it is a safety issue, the car is under warranty and yet they want me to pick up an unrepaired car because vw does not have parts to repair it. i live in vermont, the winters are cold, i can't risk getting into an accident because my car fails due to what vw claims is a known issue. *tr

When sitting on a uphill incline preparing to merge into traffic i pressed on the accelerator and started rolling backwards. the transmission finally took hold after the pedal was pressed a number of times to the floor. this is a safety issue! i have read online forums and numerous complaints have been filed. the transmission has a stalling problem. i bought the auto new. as of my knowledge now there is no recall, however this is a serious defect!!! *tr

This is a 2010 tdi wagon with the dsg automatic transmission. the transmission was a problem from the start being very jumpy starting off and stalling repeatedly in stop-and-go traffic. the dealer after numerous requests finally agreed to let me demonstrate the problem which i did. the dealer replaced the electro-hydraulic controller but then found the transmission had failed completely. i replaced the car with a 2012 model but with a manual transmission. the dsg is a dangerous transmission making the car operation erratic and unpredictable. *tr

2010 vw jetta tdi with roughly 35,650 miles. while driving up the on-ramp to enter the interstate, glow plug dash light came on and warned to "check engine now." within 20 seconds, the car lost all power, and luckily i was able to coast over to the shoulder of the interstate (with drivers flying by at 65+mph at 9:45pm). vehicle would not restart and had to be towed to the vw dealership. service rep claimed "fuel contamination," with metal shards all throughout the fuel system. entire fuel system has to be replaced ($10,000 repair) with equivalent, new parts. according to vw service technicians, the parts have not been updated despite vw's knowledge of this problem. as a result, "fuel contamination" could happen again, and the car could shut off while driving at any time without notice. this is a very serious safety concern. luckily, because i was driving at night, there was not a lot of congestion on the road. had this happened during rush hour, there very likely would have been a severe accident. vw claims the problem is a result of the poor quality of american diesel fuel supply, saying the tdis are designed in germany to run on 100% diesel that's found in europe. if this is the case, why are they selling german designed cars in the united states that doesn't have fuel supplies that are 100% diesel? volkswagen needs to issue a recall of the 2009/2010 jetta tdi. *tr

I have a 2010 vw jetta tdi with dsg automatic transmission. vehicle has 15k miles on it thus far. when pulling out onto a street from a complete stop there is a definite and hazardous hesitation before the vehicle will move forward. this issue existed since the car was new. sometimes the hesitation is very short before the car will move, other times it takes the car a moment as if the car has to "think" about what it is supposed to do. when i push the accelerator pedal the car just sits there! the longer hesitations are fairly frequent and are a danger to other vehicles, my family and myself. i don't trust this car to be able to quickly move out of harm's way in an emergency and also don't trust it to pull onto a street in front of any other vehicle no matter how far away the other vehicle is down the road. it's just not safe to do so! vw should be forced to address this problem and provide a fix for this common issue and complaint that can be read about on various vw forums all over the internet. no injuries yet from this issue with my vehicle because i know better than to try to pull out into oncoming traffic. *tr

My 2010 vw jetta sports wagon with the dsg automatic is currently having a severe hesitation when starting from a stop. i let off the break and step on the gas and it does not move for a second then lurches forward. this is dangerous when pulling out in traffic. it seems as the car drives longer it get worse. the car has stalled during this hesitation as well. when it stalls you have to put the car in park then turn the key off and restart the car. this is a very uneasy feeling while at an intersection. the car also lurches forward when coming to a complete stop, this has almost made me hit a car in front of me. this is a daily issue. *tt

2010 volkswagen jetta. consumer states knocking noise by gearbox while driving *tgw the consumer was informed the clutching system needed to be replaced. the consumer stated he had to wait two months for the part. the consumer stated three to four days later, after the vehicle was fixed, the noise resurfaced. the part was replaced again and the same noise returned.

Car nearly stalls, and then when stepping on the gas, the rpm rises really high to 4000 rpm, then the gear shifts into 1st causing the car to dangerously lurch forward. this can cause a collision. it also has a very noticeable delay to shift out of neutral to 1st gear, so when making a left turn at an intersection, this can be dangerous as well. the car has been in the shop twice for the same problems. this will be the third attempt to fix the problem. *tr

The mechatronic unit on the dsg failed causing the transmission to lurch forward when in 1st gear, and remaining in neutral for an extended period which is not normal. this is a safety issue as it can cause an accident in the failure to clear an intersection especially making a left turn, and potentially cause rear ending another vehicle and or causing unexpected acceleration. right now, the vehicle is in the shop waiting for a whole new mechatronic unit to be replaced. currently waiting on order. the vehicle is covered under warranty as it only has 7k miles on it. *tr

I purchased my 2010 jetta tdi new at the end of september 2009. it is a manual transmission. i'm a pretty conservative driver and attempt to maximize my mpg. each day after the vehicle has been setting overnight and is cold, i start up and drive to the store, a 4 mile drive, the engine will pause usually within that 4 mile drive. sometimes it is a short jerk and sometimes it is a greater jerk. other times it will happen on the return trip home. but it'll happen only once until it sets and cools off. i have had it in the shop twice with no help. my research finds some problems with the high pressure fuel pump which may be the issue, but i haven't been able to talk to vw america to see if they will confirm or deny this. this problem has happened since i've had the vehicle. it has 6,500 miles on it and i'm hoping to get it fixed before the warranty expires. not sure what will happen when the mileage gets higher.

When attempting to accelerate away from a stop my manual transmission 2010 volkswagen jetta sportwagen tdi will stall. this often occurs just as the vehicle enters the intersection. *tr

I purchased a 6-speed manual transmission jetta-tdi at the end of december of 2009. i have been driving manual transmission cars since 1975, and i was upset that my car was stalling either just starting out in first or in the lower rpm range of the lower gears when turning and moving through intersections or trying to go uphill when the rpms were in the lower range. keeping the rpms up a bit seems to have helped, as i am not having it stall as much as before. i also noticed what seemed like a slight hesitation or jerking when cruising . it would be just for a split second and then be gone my accident occurred when i was parallel parking on a hill. i went to back up a bit to straighten out my car and it stalled, rolling forward into the car parked in front of me. fortunately, no one was injured. damage was minor, but was submitted to my insurance company. at this point i was just blaming myself for not being able to adjust to the difference of clutching with a diesel engine because i couldn't figure out how to explain it. then a heard 2 radio reports about the complaints being filed. i called vw of america who listened to my story. they told me that in order to be compensated for my accident, that i would have needed to have had the car towed immediately to a dealership and had it diagnosed. she suggested that i take it to be diagnosed. i took it to the dealer who kept it for two days and could not find anything wrong. a week later, i was coming to a stop for a red light and the rpms began to fluctuate like it was going to stall and then it would come back to normal rpms. when i started to drive it was a little rough, then smoothed out. i called vw of america who recommended that i take it back to the dealer. i am waiting for them to return my call. i have also 3 intermittent problems with my am radio cutting out--are the problems connected?

Car idling in park. engaged dsg transmission, car immediately stalls.. attempted to restart, run/stall, run/stall, run/stall. now runs rough... mileage dropped 20%. car at dealer - dealer has reported 5 other tdi's in same condition. *tr

Dsg transmission is slow to engage 1st gear when starting from a full stop. this has caused several near accidents when pulling out into traffic from stop signs or redlights. there is a 2 second delay from stepping on gas pedal to car moving. transmission also feels like it is searching for correct gear when cruising resulting in momentary loss of momentum. this model is after 2009s recall for similar issues. problem has been reported to dealer and reply was that's just the way it is, but it's entered in vws database so they can track it. *tr

Vw jetta tdi 2010. on four occasions the car has completely died while moving slowly. (5 to 20 mph) everything in the car stayed on. i had to turn the key off. place the car in park and restart the car. there was no indication of any problems before or after the car staled out. nothing in the car turned off or on, except the radio after i turned the key to the off position. also while driving door locks started to click open and closed at 65 mph. after 10 min of random clicking the doors locked and stayed locked. airbag light came on while driving. the light went back off after 20 min or so. has not come back on. transmission is generally smooth, however at random it is very abrupt, even during gradual or steady acceleration/deceleration. car has only one driver. has only ever had correct fuel. various other electrical problems began at 300 miles. all problems are random. vw continually dismisses me. it is going into shop again on monday. from the sounds of it they do not expect to do anything to fix the car. just drive it a few days and see if a problem happens. car has put me in the middle of intersection with no control. *tr

When accelerating from a quick stop the car sometimes experiences a delayed response. the car will begin to accelerate at a crawl (as if i only let off the brake) even though the pedal is pushed to approximately 20% then will suddenly accelerate as if i pushed the pedal to 80% sometimes causing the tires to slip. this unexpected/undesired response makes the car appear to other drivers as if it is not proceeding through the intersection which leads them to start to proceed and then it quickly accelerates. to try and prevent this i am forced to push the accelerator pedal to 20% or so and then quickly reduce it to 5%. additionally when slightly letting off the accelerator (less than a 5% change in accelerator position) while driving at highway speeds the car will suddenly lose power as if it was shifted into neutral then will resume normal operation. this reduction in power last for less than a second and as the car is well into its top gear and is not asked to quickly accelerate does not make sense. *tr

1. the dsg transmission in my jetta sport wagon was un safely lurching forward and shifting harshly from day one. 2. the failure happened when trying to merge onto the freeway and it would not shift and was slowing as if something was wrong. after turning off the vehicle, i tried to start it again hoping it would reset. the transmission was locked and the car would not move. 3. i am waiting for parts to arrive from germany but still do not have the car back and to be honest, don't want it. *tr

2010 vw sportwagon dsg stalled at traffic signal. hd to shift into park and turn ignition off locking steering wheel, and then back on to restart engine. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 volkswagen jetta. the contact was driving 30 mph when the vehicle abnormally lost power and then began to regain power independently. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnosis. the dealer stated that the electrical control module needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired but the failure continued . the manufacturer was contacted and informed him to return to the dealer. the failure mileage was 20,000 and the current mileage was 59,000.

Tl*the contact owns a 2010 volkswagen jetta. while the contact was driving approximately 50 mph, the transmission began to hesitate in a jerking motion. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where they informed that the transmission functioned normally. in addition, on a separate occasion the transmission slipped and the gears would not shift properly. the vehicle was taken back to the dealer and the technician was unable to locate a problem. there was a recall associated with the nhtsa campaign id number 09v333000 (power train: automatic transmission). the recall specified that the vehicle must be manufactured between september 2008 and august 2009. the vehicle production year was not included in the recall. the contact experienced the identical safety defect as mentioned in the recall. the vehicle had not been repaired. the failure mileage was 380. updated 01/04/11*lj the consumer took the vehicle to another dealership where they replaced a faulty computer chip. the vehicle is now operating as designed. updated 01/10/11.*jb

2010 vw jetta 2.0 tdi cup edition: entering traffic in first gear, at about 4000-4200 rpm, car had a complete loss of power. engine did not die. i pushed in clutch and power returned. this has occurred monthly with no consistency since i purchased the car in july 2010. occurs with a warm engine. cold engine. various levels of fuel, and various climate conditions. it has been taken to o'brien volkswagen, a certified repair facility, every 3-6 months to have the issue resolved. dealership can not replicate the issue and as a result has not solved the problem. problem has been witnessed by three different passengers. a secondary stalling issue occurs between 1200-1800 with light gas peddle pressure. in this case, the car has a small pause or decrease in power. down shifting and accelerating eliminates the problem. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2010 volkswagen jetta tdi. while traveling 10 mph the contact noticed smoke coming from underneath the vehcile and it would no longer shift into first gear. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where the contact was informed that the transmission needed to be replaced. there were no prior warnings. the current mileage was 4000 and the failure mileage was 600.

My car is a 2010 vw jetta tdi with dsg transmission. i took delivery of the car in january of 2010. during july of last year with 3000 miles on the car, i drove the car out of a parking lot on a 95 f degree afternoon. by the time i reached the exit ramp the transmission, which was in drive mode, had shifted into second gear. my intention was to cross over the near lane of traffic into the far lane going in the opposite direction. when a safe interval appeared i stepped on the throttle but the car moved ahead very slowly (into the lane of fast moving cars) pressing the throttle further had no effect. i took my foot off the throttle and pressed down again and the car responded normally. it seemed at the time that the transmission had not shifted down into first gear when i had stopped at the driveway exit. the slow speed lasted for about ten seconds and the engine did not lug. the dealer said all dsg problems had been addressed and jettas in my vin number series did not register any new transmission problems on the vw service web site. i am concerned because of the potential for a disastrous accident when my wife or i try to enter high speed traffic should this problem re-occur. i had called your phone line after the event and was given "call reference number 281881, confirmation number 10346067". and told that i would receive a report form by regular mail but i never have so i thought i should complete the online form. I've a 2010 vw jetta wagon tdi, it stalls out, mostly at low idle and on hills sometimes. it also doesn't engage sometimes in forward and once it does it lurches. i've been told it's the shifting and that there is no problem with the car. i took the car in three times to have vw look at it and they said there were no issues all three times. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 volkswagen jetta. the contact was attempting to accelerate from a complete stop however the vehicle was very slow to increase in speed until the contact released his foot from the accelerator pedal. the contact then depressed the accelerator and the vehicle resumed normal operation. the dealer advised that he was not familiar with the type of failure. the vehicle was neither diagnosed nor repaired. the failure and current mileages were 3,500.

My 2010 vw jetta dsg automatic transmission i experience a lot of strange shifting patterns when driving the car the transmission was shifting upwards of 7000+ rpm i took it in for service and made the complaint and they loaded some new parameters in the computer to put it back to normal but i still get intermittent shifting .and when coming to a stop sometimes the car feels like its stuck in neutral meaning you step on the gas to go and there's an hesitation. i feel there is a problem with this transmission and just feel that i should report this for it could cause a safety issue if there's a sudden acceleration or the car fails to move at all when pulling out into traffic . *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2010 volkswagen jetta sportwagen tdi with a dsg automatic transmission. while the vehicle was stopped at a traffic light and the accelerator pedal was depressed the vehicle would not move for approximately three seconds. the vehicle was taken to the dealer on two occasions who stated that they could not find the problem. the vehicle was under warranty and not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified. the failure mileage was 5,100.

We purchased a demo vw jetta sportswagon tdi the summer of 2010, the vehicle had @ 2600 mi. on the odometer. after driving it for a while we noticed that when you step on the accelerator there was often a hesitation before the car engaged and you started forward. we talked to the dealer and they told us it was the transmission, several other people had complained about it but there was nothing they could do. when you try to get out in heavy traffic you often put yourself and others at significant risk because the car hesitates as you try to accelerate from a stop leaving you hanging out into traffic. someone is going to cause an accident, i hope it isn't us. *tr

2010 volkswagen jetta tdi(diesel) shuts off while driving. this has happened three times to me while driving. vehicle usually start up after without difficulty. vehicle has approx 2800 miles. one time it happened in a major highway intersection. this is very dangerous. vehicle was taken to vw where repairs where supposedly made. repairs made were 02 sensor and computer update. a few days later vehicle shut down once again while driving after the vw "repairs". there does not seem to be a pattern to the incidences. vehicle is currently at vw undergoing tests. another odd thing is that the factory bluetooth stereo has not worked since the first time the vehicle shut off while driving. *tr

Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6) i purchased a new 2010 vw jetta se on 1/28/10. vin [xxx] . current mileage on vehicle is less than 1300 miles. car has a automatic - dsg transmission. in mid may of 2010 i began having severe problems with the transmission locking into 3, 4 gears while in drive especially when entering traffic from a start.. this creates a severe power reduction from a start and can be life threating, and cause involvement in broad side accident while entering the flow of traffic. transmission also jolts and bolts when driving, and when placing in reverse or drive from a start. the car has shifted in neutral once while driving. i have had at least 15 occurrences since may 12th. when the situation happens i have to pull off the road and stop and wait for a safe condition to pull out in third (locked) gear. i cannot duplicate the problem at will it just occurs without warning. sometimes the problem seems to reset to normal if you turn off the ignition and wait 5-10 min before restarting. vw/audi have had numerous reports of problems with this dsg transmission. had a problem with my 2008 gti and the metronics which vw sent out a safety bulleting and replaced the unit last july. this problem is far worse than rough shifting it's life threating. had a real scary incident yesterday, locked into third and then jumped into neutral, had to coast to burm. car is currently today in the dealership as i will not drive it until the problem is corrected. they will investigate the problem and check for error codes etc. i do not have a problem with the dealership have been a customer since 2000 and have owned 6 vw's since. the problem is with the dsg transmissions in vw's they are not safe. i have also advised vw at their customer care site and who knows what they are doing???? incident date is the start of the problem i would appreciate your assistance with this matter. thank you. *tr

The vehicle is a 2010 volkswagen jetta tdi with dsg automatic transmission. on many different occasions the vehicles engine has stalled while the vehicle is in gear at low 0-5 mph. this occurs most frequently in stop/go traffic and occurs when stopping and also pulling away from a stopped position. once the vehicle has stalled you must turn the ignition to the off position, shift the car into park and then restart the car. most recently (43,000 miles 8-10-2014) the vehicle stalled at an intersection and i had to start the vehicle three times before i could safely proceed through the intersection. this was stopped at a very busy intersection in philadelphia pa and was dangerous. the vehicle has been to cvm dealership, mechanicsburg, pa (car was purchased at this location dec 2009) for services. all service work has been completed on as recommended by volkswagen. this issue was reported and noted on my services records on several different occasions, with no known cause and remedy. i have been told many times that there is no ?service code? or ?error? code on the vehicles computer. i have also been told that the dealership could not replicate the issue as i described it. i?m very frustrated at this point as i purchased this car new and paid for an extended warranty to 50,000 miles that is fast approaching. i will be taking the car into the dealership again to see if they can give me any information. i feel this is safety concern for my family and others driving similar vehicles. please help. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 volkswagen jetta. the contact stated while the vehicle was parked and unoccupied, the vehicle rolled away and crashed into a telephone pole. the manufacturer was contacted and advised they would take the liability for the defective gear shift selector, but the contact would be liable for the structural damages caused by the crash. the contact stated that the vehicle has a function where the key could be removed from the ignition without the vehicle being placed in the park position. the contact believed that the manufacturer should take the liability of the structural damage that was caused by the manufacturing defect. the failure and current mileages were 3,500.

I've had 3 automobiles since 1986 with manual transmissions and don't recall a stalling problem like i'm having now with my vw 2010 jetta tdi. it started with a test drive and a number of times after purchase. i assumed my motor skills would adapt and the problem would become less frequent. however, the problem persists, specifically at intersections when pulling away from a complete stop, a rolling stop, or when braking/clutching hard. it also happens when i try to slowly go over bumps or up hills. the most recent incident resulted in slight damage to my car. i was leaving a condo garage in which i had to go up a steep driveway, through an automatic garage door and out an alley with a speed bump just outside the door. the combination of the driveway, bump and a tight left turn meant that i had to generate rpms initially, but then had to taper down immediately. my front wheels made it over the bump, but my car stalled and i was not able to at least coast my rear wheels over the bump. essentially i was stuck in such a spot that my car cleared the door's beam but a part of my trunk was still in the path of the closing door. in a panic i tried to start the car, but another nuisance got in the way. you have to turn the key backward before turning the ignition on again. that awkward feature caused me to fumble as it had on other occasions and it took me that much longer to get the car started. the door hit my car. this issue is at least frustrating, but at most, especially at intersections, it can be dangerous. i've imagined times when my car stalled at intersections and cars behind me plowing into me. not long ago i read a favorable review (publication escapes me) about my car except for the fact that the reviewers experienced the same problem and suggested the automatic instead. when i took my car to the dealer seeking help (to no avail) i wanted to find the article online but instead found other reviews and forums complaining about the same issue. *tr

When you stop at a light and then go to take off the car has a severe lag (no power) barely will move. it showed up about 2000 miles 2010 jetta tdi. *tr

I have a jetta tdi 2010 sport wagon that has significant pause when the throttle is held constant. random but happens every day. brought to the attention of the dealership and they said they knew of the problem but don't know why this is happening and will call us if they come up with a fix! *tr

2010 jetta tdi manual transmission--clutch stalls dangerous due to new clutch response combined with diesel turbo lag. when i purchased my new car, the salesman at vw of langhorne, pa, was certain that i would "kill the clutch" on the first drive as had all other people who purchased a manual 2010 tdi. the clutch response is somehow different than any other car and after adding the "diesel turbo lag," it makes for a dangerous first acceleration. to my salesman's surprise, i did not stall the car when i drove it off the lot. however, i have since stalled it several times in traffic. when the clutch stalls, driver must completely turn off ignition and turn it back on before attempting to clutch-drive again. this is a known issue among 2010 manual tdi owners and one frequently discussed because it is very dangerous. some owners on "tdi club" list server are changing out their own clutches to stay alive. i am an excellent "stick" driver with 25 years experience in many vehicles. something needs to be done about this clutch issue before people get killed. it's not my driving problem or my particular car's problem--it is a problem with all 2010 manual tdi clutch starts. i cannot let anyone else drive my car, even my own husband (who drives a 2003 manual tdi golf), because i am afraid he will get killed pulling out in traffic as clutch stalls are frequent with the 2010 manual tdi jetta model--even after you get used to it. i previously owned a 2001 manual tdi jetta and drove it for 10 years with no clutch complaints. i stall the 2010 clutch at least once per day. when my husband has attempted to drive it, he stalled it five times in a row the first drive, and in subsequent drives stalls it every other pull out. the problem is most dangerous when leaving a driveway, parking lot, or making a left turn with what would normally be enough space in the flow of traffic, but what is not enough when the clutch stalls the car. *tr

When taking foot off brake and immediately stepping hard on the accelerator there was a severe hesitation/lag before the car took off crossing traffic. once it kicked in it took off but is a serious safety concern. i now wait a second or more for the brake switch to communicate to the dsg transmission to tell the clutch to engage. vw must fix this as i could have been driven in a collision. this was much more than typical turbo lag which is common with diesels. this would occur regularly if i didn't adjust my driving to account for the lag. *tr

Leaving a parking lot and stopping for oncoming traffic i pressed the gas pedal to move onto the highway but car did not move. after i put my foot all the way down the second attempt the clutch engaged and the car moved forward. the car is a 2010 vw jetta diesel. *tr

My 3 day old 2010 vw jetta sportwagen with dsg was being moved in our garage and it won't engage in reverse initially then in all gears. the car could be left in gear and not move at all. i called the 24 hour roadside assistance and the car was towed the day after to the dealership. the dealer diagnosed it with a mechatronics problem and needed to be replaced. it was ordered and we're waiting for the part to arrive for approximately 4 weeks. if vw dsg recalled this in aug 2009, why are we still seeing this same problem in 2010? *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2010 volkswagen jetta. while the contact was driving 15 mph, the vehicle suddenly shifted into first gear, moved forward and stalled. the contact stated that a sensor was replaced (no more information was given). the contact also stated that the sunroof leaked when it rained. the dealer could not find the cause of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 7,000.
