My 2010 vw jetta wolfsburg radio went dead about 1 month ago. forward to present day. after i came home from a 5 day vacation it would not start. i had to get a jump. this morning it would not start again after sitting 24 hrs. before this all happened the doors would lock and unlock and the window would not roll up all the way. i cannot use bluetooth and my car sporadically will not start. *js

While driving heard a pop and touch screen radio went dead all fuses test good and also lost all bluetooth capabilities. a rhythmic feedback was then audible in speakers and would not stop with car turned off had to remove fuse to stop the feedback noise. *tr

At approximately 50k miles we where instructed by the dealer to change the battery. we followed instructions and consequently less then 1k miles later there was a large spark with the smell of electrical fire causing the radio to flame out and go dark. we where quoted $785 dollars to replace the radio on a four year old car. possible electrical malfunction could lead to other problems. *tr

I was driving as usual and my stereo went out. i know a lot of tdi owners with the radio 1k0 035 180 ac have had this issue too. the sheer number of people complaining about the faulty touch screen stereo makes this more than just a coincidence. this is more than just an am/fm radio problem we lose cellular capabilities that were factory installed. this is a safety concern more than it is just a "luxury" item that vw installs. *tr

We were driving home after having the vehicle serviced for the 50k checkup, oil change, and recall fix. the radio quit working, taking out all stereo, speakers, and bluetooth system communication. the bluetooth is still working in some context as the phone is now picked up by the vehicle when a call comes through but it must be manually changed to the phone speakers, as it tries to route it through the car. this happened less than 20 miles after leaving the garage. *tr

Was slowing to make left hand turn, heard a pop and the radio went dead. fuse is fine. *tr

I purchased a 2010 vw jetta just over a year ago at this point. i loved it at first, it's a clean diesel. within 3-4 months of owning it the stereo has gone out. vw has chosen to ignore this issue even though it's a known issue! it's draining batteries, causing electrical and fuse issues which could lead to substantially more dangerous issues in the future. please help those of us who are fighting this battle. it's 100s if not 1000s to get fixed and it's absolutely unreasonable.. http://www.cargurus.com/cars/discussion-t36009_ds552583

The touchscreen radio (model rcd-510, manufactured by delphi and utilized in various 2010-2011 model vws) had failed completely. it is acting as if no power is going to the unit. all fuses were checked and they are functional. all bluetooth and hands-free capabilities, which were built into the stereo system, no longer function. any use of a phone while driving requires the use of hands, which is illegal in many states throughout the us. otherwise, pulling off of the road to place/receive phone calls puts the driver at increased risk of being struck. *tr

My husband & i were out of town, driving down a main street, in the rain, when there was a pop, and the radio just went black. my bluetooth was still functional, however, i couldn't use it due to the fact it works through the radio. i commute a lot, not having the bluetooth functionality is a safety hazard. *tr

Radio made a pop sound and turn off. has not power up again. all fuses are good and power to radio is good. radio has a flaw according to all the complaints by volkswagen owners online. could be a fire hazard. vw is not doing anything about this if the warranty is expired. *tr

Touch screen radio on my 2010 vw jetta tdi stopped working a few weeks ago. at the same time the a/c began to fail. this week after researching why the radio stopped working came across many threads discussing similar issue and the term "parasitic drain". this problem causes the battery to be drained. woke up this morning and i got in the car and the battery is drained. will try the dealership once it opens. *tr

Another jetta to add to the list with a faulty radio. the radio just died in the middle of a normal commute. i found in a forum that i'm just one of many so i'm lodging a complaint in hopes vw will listen. also, the remote entry doesn't work sometimes and sometimes the car will not go into reverse without stopping the engine and restarting it. *tr

Radio will not work. does not power on. all fuses are good. this is a common problem. this web site follows the problems of multiple people http://www.cargurus.com/cars/discussion-t36009_ds552583?actionmessages=your+answer+has+been+posted. *tr

Without notice factory radio with hands free/ bluetooth fails to come on. which causes a potential hazard. can also cause battery to drain, putting more strain on alternator, causing it to fail. dealer wants a diagnostic charge, which finds that radio has failed. needs to have radio replaced. *tr

I was driving home from work and the radio went off, black screen. has not came back on, fuse is good. *tr

The sound system including cd player, radio, blue tooth hands free system, and aux stopped working suddenly. this car was less than 5 years old and this should be covered by volkswagen! this is a safety issue because i purchased this car model because it had bluetooth. the less expensive model did not. now i am not able to carry on a hands free conversation on my cell phone. volkswagen needs to step up and have a recall or cover this issue. *tr

Vehicle is equipped with an rcd 510 2din touchscreen radio (delphi premium - 8). hands free operation comes through this system. on the morning of 8/14/14 i started my car and the radio system was dead. totally dead, as if there is no power getting to it whatsoever. i checked all fuses (engine compartment, interior of car and the 15 amp fuse located in rear of the radio) and all were fine. it may be a coincidence, but my left headlight has burned out twice in the last 6 months, most recently in early august 2014. in addition, my sirius annual subscription ended on the exact day of the radio dying. *tr

After getting my 70k mile service and leaving the dealership my radio died. went back to shop and the service department checked the fuses and verified that power was getting to the radio. reported it had just "died". they did not acknowledge this as a trend, however, my service advisor admitted that another customer has replaced his radio 2x - also a 2010 jetta. this is not a luxury item, as i travel long distances for work and use the "hands-free" function of the radio system for making calls safely. i understand there are at least 65 other formal complaints regarding this issue, and several people have reported that this problem can and does drain the battery. this is about the third battery i've had in this car of 4 years - seems a little fishy. this is a safety issue, and more importantly, a defect which should be recalled! *tr

About aug 2013 (mileage ~ 63,000): intermittent issue that driver's door lock would not lock with key fob. door would be unlocked and door could be physically opened using the door handle and then car alarm would go off. about august 2014 (mileage ~ 78,000): driver's door stopped locking or unlocking at all with key fob. when pressing lock button on key fob, driver's door remains unlocked and door can be physically opened using door handle without car alarm going off. need to manually lock and unlock driver's door by putting key in the lock and turning clockwise. once locked, driver's door will then not unlock with key fob and needs to be manually unlocked by putting key in the lock and turning counter-clockwise. [note that this problem still exists and has not been fixed as of may 2016.] one year later, about august 2015 (mileage ~ 94,000): now there is also an intermittent problem wth the rear passenger side door lock - sometimes when unlocked with the key fob, the door will not unlock and the door will not open using the outside door handle. the door would also not open when tried with the key in the lock or when using the inside door handle or when the lock/unlock button inside the car is pressed. this rear passenger door problem has happened at least 3 times and this door is used infrequently, so it could be happening more often. these door lock issues are a potential safety issue if a person gets locked in and cannot get out of the door in an emergency.

Heard a pop and the display screen went dark. the radio and other systems (navigation, auxillary, etc) no longer function. there are hundreds of similar complaints that have been posted to vw sites. this should be a recall. *js

Driving along when a warning light came on( epc) which is electronic power control. on my way to the dealer now. *js

2010 vw jetta 2.0tfsi wolfsburg edition - rcd-510 touch screen radio died loud audible "pop" noise then no operation. all fuses are fine. found a blog online that shows many other consumers with same year and model have the exact same problem, yet vwoa refuses to consider a recall for this issue. please make sure they address this problem and compensate consumers with free repairs or reimbursement. thank you. blog with other know problems here: http://www.cargurus.com/cars/discussion-t36009_ds552583. *tr

Went to start the vehicle and the radio/satellite/blu tooth phone system quit suddenly. system went dark. dealer said it was a bad system. removed system for repair and found that it had a bad ic chip that is destroyed. fortunately no fire resulted from the loss of the chip on the system circuit board. board is not repairable due to the chip being baked onto the board and not soldered. board is not replaceable due to no parts availability from delphi or vw. very common problem with this radio and vw has ignored thousands of complaints about the defective system. *js

Radio went dead at toll stop and was no longer functional on interstate or any other road. hands free phone service was lost. phone still seams to link up with bluetooth but does not function any longer through radio. distracting for driving without the handsfree phone. could cause vehicle accident if not replaced. *tr

Entire radio unit failed. not able to use bluetooth or any component of the radio. checked all fuses and they are good. there are many reports of this same issue on various car blogs. dealership stated this issue is common, but they are not issuing a recall because the radio is a "luxury" item. this seems to only be a problem on the 2010 tdi model. *tr

Radio/nav unit popped and died while the car and radio were being operated. this exact issue has been communicated on many online discussions. without bluetooth connectivity for phones, this is a driving safety concern. i will likely resolve the issue with an aftermarket unit due to the high cost of an oem/dealer replacement. if this is a known and recurring issue with these units, vw should actively resolve the problem. *tr

The radio was working fine on my drive home from work. i was at home for about 1 hour and got back in car to run errands and at that point the radio never turned on. my phone still connected to radio, but no sound was coming and the screen was dark/blank. my phone indicated the bluetooth was connected. i could not get it back on. i replaced the fuses to make sure, but it did not work. *tr

Drivers side tail light and turn signal indicator does not function. vw diagnosed the problem to be a faulty j519 power control unit. the wv dealer's service supervisor indicated this a common problem and the replacement part has progressed through 5-6 evolutions and vw still can't remedy the issue. j519 part costs $550.00 plus $150.00 labor. seems like an excessive cost for a faulty tail light. *tr

The radio unit stopped working after 4yrs of use, the safety concern is the lost of bluetooth and the ability to conduct hands free cellphone calls / operations the broken radio drains the battery causing family to be stranded at night until the tow truck to arrive. *tr

Handsfree bluetooth functionality has cut off. radio went dead. *tr

The rcd-510 premium 8 radio with blue tooth cell phone connectivity failed in my 2010 jsw tdi at about 3 1/2 years and 56k miles--worked fine one day and black screen-of-death with no function at all the next. fuses intact and current being delivered to the unit. it's clear from the number of responses here http://www.cargurus.com/cars/discussion-t36009_ds552583 that this is a systematic issue with radio units manufactured by delphi in the 2010 year model vws. for me at least, loss of blue tooth function is a safety issue--i frequently need to make or take phone calls while driving, and for much of my approx. 10-mile commute to and from work there is no safe shoulder on the road where i could pull over and use the phone. my decision to purchase the vehicle was made in part based on the blue tooth feature, which my old car didn't have. my state (washington) has a law explicitly forbidding use of cell phones while driving unless using a hands-free device. so this isn't just a pattern of failure in a "luxury feature" as vwoa has attempted to frame it--this issue directly affects safety for drivers and others around us. i had previously complained of intermittent radio issues (i.e.: apparently spontaneous loss of preset stations, etc.) with this vehicle while it was under warranty, but was told by the dealer that "the technician was unable to replicate the issue." i have contacted both the local dealer from which i purchased the car and volkswagen of america customer care about this issue, but neither offered any solution. *tr

Driving to work in my 2010 vm jetta which i purchased used 3 months ago. i heard a loud pop that seemed to come from my right side speaker and the entire radio went dead! no power, no sound, no nothing. *tr

The radio went dark, there was strange feedback through the speakers before this happened. around the same timeframe the seatbelt chime would go off intermittently. there is defiantly issues with the electrical system with this car. *tr

Radio, cd changer, bluetooth inoperable. the screen has become black. there is an occasional electrical thump sound coming through the speakers. concerned there is an electrical short of some kind. have read of many other similar instances with the same make, model and year car as mine. help! *tr

I got in to my car after work on saturday i turned on the car and no radio. i checked the fuses and they were fine. yes, there wasn't one in the plug (18) but i put one in there to see if that would work for me and it did not. then my windshield wipers were not working either. i turned the car off and back on and the wipers started working. it's rainy season here. so i hope they continue to work. . this morning i called the dealer and they said that my car was not covered under the extended warranty for the radio. many other vw customers are having the same problem. http://www.cargurus.com/cars/discussion-t36009_ds552583. *tr

While picking up a friend with car running. switched from cd to radio. radio unit went completely inop. no backlight to buttons no clock no nothing completely dark. along with audible speaker popping noise. even when car shut off and key pulled from ignition and doors locked still makes audible popping noise. had to disconnect battery to get noise to stop. looked around online and seen that this is a chronic problem with this head unit. i have yet to check for c/b's or fuses located inside the cabin. please help. contact info 3012541365. vw 2010 jetta wolfburg manual. *tr

Entire radio unit failed. not able to use bluetooth or any component of the radio. checked all fuses and they are good. *tr

While driving the car using the bluetooth hands free connection provided by the stereo heard a popping sound and then the stereo went blank and i lost the call connection. the (required by oregon law) hands free connection no longer works. there are many other people on the internet reporting this same problem with the 2010 vw radios. please see one example at http://www.cargurus.com/cars/discussion-t36009_ds552583. *tr

I was driving home from work, on a side road, not going more than 40 miles an hour, and in the middle of a song, my radio made a loud "pop" noise and went dead. at the time, my car had 46k miles on it, stays in a a garage at home and at work, gets regular servicing and has never had an issue. the radio hasn't worked since june and i have gotten nowhere with the dealership. i took it in for an evaluation the day after the radio went out, and they had no solution or remedy, only that i could buy a new radio and pay around $600 for the installation. i have been researching this matter and it seems a lot of other people have suffered the same fate. the car power isn't the same as it was before the radio went out, and i'm worried the dead radio is affecting the battery. i'm just not sure what to do anymore, i feel as though this isn't isolated and should bring about a recall. *tr

I dropped my 2010 volkswagen jetta tdi sports wagon to my dealer to have a front end alignment on may 30, 2014. my car went in with a perfectly good working radio, i went to pick up my car on may 31, 2014, the radio was display and controls were not working, i did not leave the dealer's lot. i promptly went back inside to tell them that the radio was not working and that i found it to be odd that the radio was not working when it came in with a perfectly good working radio. they kept the car and said they will do a diagnostic test on it. when they called me back they said that they were able to get the radio to work for a short time then it went dead again. the service person proceeded to tell me that i needed a new radio for $1100.00. this seems absolutely absurd that a radio would fail after 3 yrs. i am wondering if there has been any other complaints regarding radios in 2010 volkswagens? i went on line and there seems to be complaints, but who knows if they are valid or not. i am picking my car up today from the dealer without the working radio since i will need my car for transportation. i would appreciate any help or advice that you can give me. *tr

Complete failure of premium 8 audio. possibly caused by incorrect rating fuses installed in both engine compartment fuse block and rear of head unit. unavailability of hands-free phone phone use is a safety issue. 1000's of complaints filed everywhere.

While driving to office (6 miles) my radio "popped" and stopped working. i had it inspected at the dealership and was told that all fuses were good and that radio died! they attempted to sell me a replacement radio for $700! i started researching this issue and discovered that it was trending among like jettas. after spending a considerable amount of time with "customer service" at vw, they told me that the radio was out of warranty. they refused to tell me if this problem was happening to other owners. after talking to two dealers in dallas, tx, i discovered that a faulty radio was the current trend in the 2010 vw jettas. their solution was to sell me a refurbished radio to fix the problem, and not address the true cause of the complaints! *tr

I was driving down the road when i accelerated hard and i predndio light of "glow plug" on the panel, the car lost power and was limited to spend two thousand rpm's coming home that was close. i did nothing that night, i followed turning on the light in the panel. the next day i turn it normal, i turned on the light ... then it caught me way to work again and i return to my home, i turned on and off and it caught and never turn off. take it to the vw service center and was told that the pump has fault injection and particulate throughout the fuel system. tell me that the repair will cost more than 4000 dollars ... and the worst is that no warranty. *tr

Only not ruuning engine, not start. *tr

This is just another complaint about the 2010 jetta premium radio that died for no reason. i contacted volkswagen of america and they acted like they have never heard of the issue, but clearly after doing 2 minutes worth of research there are countless others with the same problem. volkswagen told me that my car is getting old so they won't help me. i will be sure to never buy another vw. other electrical issues i have are. 1. car locks itself constantly with the keys in ignition 2. resistor for the blower motor went out 3. coils for all 4 cylinders went bad well before 100,000. *tr

Factory radio stopped working suddenly. no indication of a problem previously. repair required replacement of head unit at an expense of $600 plus labor (factory refurbished). have not experienced a problem like this with previously owned vehicles, several of which are 15+ years in age. tried to contact volkswagen usa, but two emails have gone unanswered. a quick internet search indicates this is not an isolated incident, as several others have experienced the same problem. as the radio is tied to the bluetooth in the car, hands free phone operation is compromised without factory radio working. hands free phone use is required in neighboring state of md through which my travels take me often. *tr

Heard a small pop sound while listening to the radio and the system went dead. called vwoa and they would not open a claim. this is the second radio as the original failed under warranty and was replaced by the dealer in 2012. i was told the replacement radio, even though it was replaced with an oe radio, only carried a 12 month warranty while the original carried the full 36,000 three year warranty. *tr

While listening to the radio with the volume less than 50% the speakers popped and the radio shut off. i took it to two dealerships the second one said something in the radio "burned out." it appears that this issue is common to this model of vw radio so much so that vw has a "radio exchange program" where they sell you a refurbished model for half the price of a new one somewhere between $600-$1000 according to the vw dealership. *tr

Vw radio defect. radio will pop and go dead, causing a 25 miliamp drain on battery until repaired.

Radio simply stopped working. the radio had bluetooth hands free operation feature. so, my family can no longer operate the car safely making or receiving phone calls. this problem has occurred with a multitude of 2010 versions of this car. the problem is internal to the radio made by delphi, so it may cross over to other automobile mfg models. this is a very premature time for radio failures after 3 years in service. *tr
