We have classified the 208 complaints from 2010 Volkswagen Jetta about ELECTRICAL SYSTEM into the following categories.
The tail lights and brake lights were not working. discovered during annual state required inspection in september 2015. i was driving the vehicle regularly on rural, city and highway roads without tail and brake lights and was unaware. a repair to the electrical wiring was required. addtionally, the trunk latch was only working intermittently prior to this repair. since the wiring repair was made, i have had no issues with the trunk release not working. the rear passenger door on the drivers side doesn't lock and unlock when you depress the keyfob or the button in the car to lock all the doors. this is a very infrequently used door and it is the door used the least in the vehicle. dealer states it is a bad door latch. i have not repaired it. it doesn't always open from the outside, sometimes i have to reach in and open it from the inside to get the door open. on 01.12.2016 the car radio stopped working. the fuses are good and intact. the bluetooth no longer works since the radio doesn't work. it is completely out of service, nothing works on the radio. i relied heavily on the bluetooth for hands free phone calls since the vehicle is manual transmission. vehicle was stationary when discovered. vehicle has approximately 55,000 miles on it.
Radio & bluetooth suddenly stopped working. no power. fuses were checked and all are good. reviewing internet and seems that this is a very common problem not covered by warranty. appears to be a safety issue since bluetooth no longer working.
I have owned this car since purchasing new in oct 2010 with the dealer doing all the maintenance work on it. on 8/30/13 the radio went dead, dealer replaced at no cost to me. this morning 8/17/15 i again have a dead radio, same as before, i called dealer and asked when they replaced the prior one and it is almost 2 years to the date! this time they said i would have to pay to replace it (i have never had a factory radio go bad in any car i have owned in 30 plus years of driving cars). i can live without the radio, but i like the safety of having the hands free bluetooth to talk on the phone. i have been thinking about purchasing a new jetta for myself and giving this one to my teenage son, but i think i better unload this one if the radio is going to keep dying every 2 years. btw when i bought the car, the manager of the dealership told me vw wanted to increase its market share. here's a hint vw - you will not increase market share if you will not stand behind your whole product. you obviously have a problem here with this radio unit; do the right thing by replacing the units as they fail.
I had the oil changed and the latest recall done by the dealership. about 3 days later the radio went blank and black. another problem has been the automatic locks. i have been unable to unlock rear passenger door except manually. and then all of a sudden the lock is not working at all on that side and i am unable to lock that door.
Started car this morning and hit the power button on for the radio - nothing. after doing some research on the web, found this is a common problem with the premium 8 vw radio. fuses that were easily accessible checked out fine. radio is completely dead. using reset instructions from the web did not work. radio worked fine yesterday when i turned it off at home.
Drove car to work 0630, stereo worked fine. left work at 1915, when i started my car, the stereo did not come on, screen was black, no sound. thought maybe it blew a fuse. on my way home, the stereo started working again, just popped on. as i continued to drive it went off again, but loud a rhythimatic beat started thorough out each of the speakers, sounded like somebody hitting a microphone that was on! i arrived at my house shortly after that noise started (thankfully) and turned off my car. removed the keys from the ignition but the loud noise did not stop!!! i had to open the hood and pull out some fuses to get it to stop! two weeks after this happened, my car died when waiting in a drive-thru. we had to push my car. my car would crank but not start. nothing inside the car would work. i called my husband, he opened the hood, unhooked a fuse and it started! the next day my car was dead, had to put it on a battery charger. i'm afraid if i replace the stereo, it too will go out and possibly short out other electrical items in my car. as of now, the stereo is in place but unhooked and my battery is fine. there must be a reason why this is happening too so many people with the same stereo.
While driving on the highway yesterday there was a pop sound from the delphi premium 8 (rns-510?) radio and it went dead. checked the fuses and found that they were all ok. looked online and found that this appears to be a known/common complaint. it leads me to wonder if there are other electrical issues going on, and what repairs those will lead to. i called the local vw dealership (al serra) this morning and they haven't called back. from everything that i'm reading online, it is costly to replace the stereo. this seems to be more than a "coincidence" and vw should be held accountable.
Radio was working fine one minute than the next it was dead. i had the fuses check for the radio none of them were blown. i was actually stranded from a tire blow out with no hands free use of my radio which the police officer that helped me said that was a serious safety issue and there's no reason for a manufactured radio on a 2010 car to go out. needless to say i see online a lot of other customers are in the same situation and volkswagen has done nothing. in some states it is against the law to talk on your phone it must be hands free.
Built in bluetooth / radio is defective, leaving passengers unable to use hands free technology, and also eliminates the national alert system. the dead radio also leads to a parasitic battery drain, which will kill the battery of the car, leaving people stranded, potentially in extreme weather situations. this is a very well known issue with thousands of known cases online, yet nothing has been done.
Vw jetta sportwagen 2010. the radio was playing, i heard a small "pop" and the radio quit working, no lights, no sound. the blue tooth is played thru the radio so this no longer works either. this is a safety hazard as i can no longer use bluetooth to talk on the phone. in fact in some states i travel thru it is illegal to use the phone without bluetooth. one of the reasons i bought this car was the blue tooth option. it is not the fuse. there are hundreds of online complaints about this model and year vw radio. http://www.cargurus.com/cars/discussion-t36009_ds552583 i
Drove the car in the afternoon and parked it at an office building. got back into my car about an hour later and when the car turned on, the radio was completely black. nothing worked and would not turn back on. checked fuses and they seemed to be fine. took it into the dealer and after several hours of looking at it, they said there was something wrong with the radio wiring and there was no way to fix it with a new part and the only parts available were refurbished parts for at least the sale of $600+! this is a ridiculous amount of money for just a radio i think when there are parts cheaper after market. i only had the car for almost 5 years, it shouldn't have these problems so soon!
Radio suddenly stopped working. no power. black screen. i checked the fuses and took the car to an audio sound place - they took out the radio to check the fuse in the back. all fuses work, radio is grounded and power is fine. radio is dead. seems there are quite a few 2010 jettas with this same issue with the delphi radio - i read somewhere that perhaps the fuse for the radio should be a 10a not a 15a and that some board is getting fried with the higher fuse...who is accountable?
Stereo just went completely dead for no reason. bluetooth is out of commission as well. the exact same issue as everyone else here. i checked my fuses and they are all fine. went to my local volkswagen dealer and got the same song and dance as everyone else here. my service tech at first tried to deny that this is an inherent problem with these vehicles, but after me pressing him on the issue and asked if he had read all of the same complaints on the internet, he fessed up. very frustrating as my car only has 80,000 miles when both the stereo and the a/c quit working. he gave me a load of bull on that one as well. from now on i will only drive a honda or toyota.
Vw 2010 tdi - radio dead. completely went black, unresponsive. discovered wrong fuse in line with radio - 15a when it should have been 10a according to spec. this over time caused the radio to fry. vw of a doesn't care about this issue and gives the standard reply that it is not under warranty. a 5 year old vehilce, with 100k miles - the radio should not be failing at this age, further, this is a 1000+$ fix. ridiculous
Radio went completely dead. screen is blank and no response. bluetooth and other features connected to the radio do work. previous time in the car the radio was working fine. now radio is dead and rest of car seams fine.
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 volkswagen jetta. the contact stated that the bluetooth feature failed to work whenever the radio was inoperable. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the vin was not available. the approximate failure mileage was 61,000.
Driving down highway, cars radio just dies completely stops. quickly moved over not knowing what was wrong. worried something could happen to car itself. got home checked fuses which were fine.turned car back on, vehicle dash is displaying several indicators. not sure if car is even safe to drive.volkswagen didn't acknowledge issue even though there are several complaints similar to this.
Radio suddenly quit. i see from the internet that this happens a lot with jettas. i have never had a factory radio just stop working in any other car i have owned. this is an expensive repair.
Radio stopped working in vw jetta tdi 2010 - i got into my vehicle and started the engine - after finding that the radio did not start up, i pushed the power button but with no success. i checked the fuse and it seems fine, then i looked up this issue online and found a significant number of complaints for the same exact year and model (tdi). as a result, i am unable to use bluetooth for hands free phone conversation which presents a safety issue.
On may 9th,we started our car after after a wedding and reception, the radio was blank, nothing.it also has factory bluetooth.called our dealer and tried to get goodwill adjustment for radio.was told radio was out of warranty.opened a case with vw,had dealer pull radio, the dealer called vw.no assistance radio cost is $775,not counting installation.i think this is a safety issue, because bluetooth doesn't work, because radio does not.2010 vw jetta se.
Hands free/bluetooth/radio not working. screen went dead suddenly. fuses checked and all are ok. inability to use audio unit is a safety issue. called east coast vw in englewood, nj and dealer stated car out of warranty. car is a 2010 vw jetta with 47,000 miles. volkswagen of america contacted to no avail. logged complaint with better business bureau. battery replaced due to drainage.
I turned my car on and the radio was dead. the radio is also the bluetooth device and is now unsafe for me to use my phone while in the car. i have read that many other people have had the same problem with this vehicle. *tr
The radio with bluetooth died at 90507 miles and now the battery and new battery loose charge. after doing research i found the same issue with several hundred other owners same model cars here http://www.cargurus.com/cars/discussion-t36009_ds552583 https://www.facebook.com/vw hash tag #vwradiosjunk i considered this a safety issue as the radio effects the functioning of the car and bluetooth and seems to stop working due to a short over time causing battery discharge. *tr
I was driving around town this past friday (4/24/15) and the radio made a loud "pop" sound and then it stopped working; the touchscreen went black and will not turn on or display the time. i checked all the fuses (including the one behind the radio), and they were all fine. after doing some research online, i learned this is a fairly common problem for this make and model (http://www.cargurus.com/cars/discussion-t36009_ds552583) but no real solution has been discovered. i believe there are enough instances of malfunction that this should be addressed by vw and a recall should be made. *tr
Pop sound, battery is dead, radio and navigation system is inoperable. this issues is with hundreds of 2010 jettas. *tr
Rcd-510 radio stopped working and is confirmed "dead" by the dealer. no warning, no reason and no fix available. bluetooth no longer works because it uses the radio to power car speakers, so cannot do "hands free" communication. vw says it is not responsible because the car is out of warranty. i have never had a radio fail -- i have under 60,000 miles on the car! *tr

This vehicle has been an electrical night mare. started off around september of last year with an intermittent misfire. dealer replaced intake assembly. a month later random cylinder misfires. it comes and goes with mil light coming on. been in to dealer a couple times for this issue and they have not been able to resolve the issue. they keep wanting more money to diagnose. in january the battery kept dying. if it sat over night the battery would be dead. 1 year old battery. had charging system checked at autozone and everything was good. this morning my wife went to drive car and the radio would not power up. so i started searching the web just like every other time we have had issues with this car. turns out hundreds of 2010 models have had same issue and seems to lead on to more electrical issues down the road. i have had 15 year old vehicles with almost 300k miles and same factory radio in it working fine. i just traded off a 2001 explorer with 200k miles that ran better than this 5 yr old jetta. voa gave me a claim number and want me to take it to a dealer which is ridiculous because i will be charged diagnostics and will not be covered as it is a luxury item. what about all the other electrical issues they have been unable to resolve. *tr
While driving, my bluetooth handsfree device, including radio popped and went dead. additionally, i have already replaced the entire fuel system, two ac compressors and the thermostat. major issues with this model. *tr
Middle of snow in texas (lots of road salts), i was stopping at a gas station to refuel. after refueling, the radio (delphi premium 8) did not turn on... touchscreen was blank, none of the lights turned on. bluetooth light at the control buttons above worked and my phone connected. however, hands free calling is non-functional since the bluetooth requires the radio for the microphone and speakers. while i can survive without music, not having hands free is a huge safety issue as i take several phone calls while driving. now that i am in the state of california, hands free is a legal requirement. i spent extra money to have the better stereo system with integrated bluetooth and now i am told i will have to spend upwards of $1000 to replace what is obviously a poorly built system which delphi and vw should recall. *tr
I went to drive to work and turned on my car. no radio. nothing. no power to it. absolutely nothing. no bluetooth for safe and hands free driving, nothing. can't get it fixed for less than $1000. nothing to explain what causes it. no blown fuses no anything. no explanation whatsoever. i have done some research and found that this is a common problem...hey vw.....wake up and give me a new radio..... wow where is my recall..... *tr
None of the door locks work, they don't lock. stereo system does not work, completely black. no blue tooth at all. seat belt front passenger side dings though the belt is in place and locked.
Driving down the road listening to music, heard a loud pop (like a static electrical pop) and then the entire radio system went dead including bluetooth for my phone. radio will no longer turn on. i have seen a large number of similar cases (pop and then dead radio). *tr
I purchased a 2010 jetta august 2014 with 48,000 miles. i thought this would be a good car for my daughter's first car. now 5 moths later she was driving and the radio just went out and screen went black.checked fuses and nothing. talked with volkswagen and no recalls which if you google it there are alot of the same problems. they won't do anything. this makes me very mad that my 16 year daughter used her money to buy a car and only has 50,000 and they want 800.00 to fix. that is crazy! i will never buy vw again they do not help anyone. *tr
Car radio suddenly shutoff while driving and would not turn back on.touch screen does not respond. checked fuses on engine component and left side panel, and no fuses are blown. now the passenger headlight and driver's side taillight are also out, but replaced with new ones they still do not come on. very concerned that the electrical issues will drain the battery and that there is no apparent cause for this incident.i do not seeing a new radio as being the solution, i refer to this discussion http://www.cargurus.com/cars/discussion-t36009_ds552583 with very similar issues to mine. *tr
Started car to leave work today and radio would not turn on just a black touchscreen. in researching this problem, i see there are hundreds if not more with the exact problem. so i hope this helps to get something rolling. *tr
Radio was working perfectly fine yesterday morning on my commute to work. went out for lunch. black screen. no audio. no bluetooth. i can live without a radio. but i cannot live without having a hands free option for my phone. i am on the phone for work and traveling often. after reading numerous complaints on http://www.cargurus.com/ i am afraid that this complaint will go unnoticed. *tr
My blue-tooth/radio just stopped working, black screen. i was also having battery problems around that time, car battery would be dead at random times. it seems this is a common problem with 2010 vw.
After entering street, after approximately 1/2 mile, glow light indicator came on and did not flash, a pop sounded and the engine died and could not be restarted, vehicle was towed 25 miles to dealership, waiting for diagnosis. no prior warning lights or indicators that the engine was inoperable. had a new battery and had just made a trip of 345 miles two days prior. *tr
The radio quit working making the bluetooth hands free not operable? safety issue as i need the blue for talking while driving for work.
*tr
While driving the touchscreen radio turned off and will no longer turn back on. my phone remained connected to the blue tooth system, however, i was unable to use this function since it goes through the radio and car speakers. the next day, while driving in the rain, my wipers stopped working as well. these are major safety issues (the lack of handsfree for someone that commutes every day as well as a visibility issue when unable to use wipers in rain). *tr
I am having a similar issue with my vehicle as in nhtsa id numbers 10660948, 10664166, 10662515 and 10633219. all four of my vehicle's door locking mechanisms have failed. as a result, the doors cannot be opened from the outside of the vehicle. this could be a safety issue in the event of an accident or the need to quickly evacuate a passenger from the vehicle. *tr
The radio and bluetooth system want kaput upon starting the car one morning. this is a problem that others have documented on social media (http://www.cargurus.com/cars/discussion-t36009_ds552583) and that vw will not acknowledge as a manufacturers' flaw. it's a $700 fix for most customers and an issue that potentially causes safety issues if not addressed, considering the tie to the hands-free phone system. *tr
Door locks don't work requires replacement of entire door lock mechanism on three doors (drivers side front, both back doors). when the unlock button is pressed -whether it's the one on the door or on the key fob- the locks do not disengage. sometimes the front door doesn't lock, yet the car alarm is set (so if you try to open the door after pushing the lock button on the fob, it opens and the horn starts blaring). the problem with the back doors makes it impossible to get a small child out of the back of the car as there is no manual door lock mechanism on the car. would be dangerous in the event of an accident or other incident requiring that the passengers exit the vehicle. there should be a manual unlock mechanism for each and every door. *tr
Radio is dead including bluetooth and hands free driving. all fuses are okay, fuse box was replaced under the recall. *tr
safety issue - stereo is no longer functioning taking with it hands free bluetooth capabilities for making phone calls. *tr
Driving up to park my 2010 vw jetta wagon tdi curbside in front of my house, i heard a loud "pop" emit from somewhere near the instrument panel and the touch-screen radio in my vehicle went completely black. the radio supplies the vehicle's blue-tooth capability to allow drivers to communicate emergencies, and those calls must be done hands-free (i.e. over blue tooth or similar system), as required by law in california. since this incident the radio (and speaker system) in the vehicle has been non-functional. i asked my local vw dealer if there were any outstanding recalls on this vehicle. they informed me there were none, but the radio spontaneously dying, particularly in this model year, has been a common complaint of vw owners. this is made clear by the many, many postings on various web boards. factory installed defects in radios that prevent drivers from communicating emergency needs while on the road, and also prevent drivers from receiving emergency notifications over public broadcast channels while driving is a serious safety concern that must be addressed and remedied by the manufacturer immediately. *tr
Both exhaust pressure sensors malfunctioned causing vehicle indicator lamp to illuminate and failed emissions test. quoted $595.00 for repair work, after repairs vehicle still will not pass emissions test. *tr
A key feature of this vehicle is the capability for hands free use of on-board communications systems which is mandatory in several states for increased safety while driving. this capability is controlled through the factory installed radio system and blue tooth technology. when the oem radio fails the hands free safe communications system fails. this can result in a major safety concern. the radio installed in this vehicle failed with a pronounced pop indicating an electrical fault and will not operate. the radio is wired through other connections in the wiring harness to the vehicle information system above the steering wheel which includes operation data including miles per hour among others. since this is an apparent electrical defect and is tied to other vehicle operation system information it becomes a major safety concern. other owners have reported that their vehicles of this make and model have experienced related problems including failure to start and engine turning off intermittently. volkswagen does not consider this fault a safety concern. these vehicles should be recalled to correct this deficiency at no charge tot he customer. *tr
