Car will not turn off - key gets stuck in ignition when turning off the engine. have to push the steering wheel in forcefully to be able to turn key and engine off.

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 volkswagen jetta. the contact stated that the vehicle's battery was replaced three times within a year. the new battery was replaced within a month. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who determined that the radio caused the battery to fail. the vehicle was not repaired. the contact called york volkswagen (3475 e market st, york, pa 17402, (717) 755-1015) and was informed that there was no guarantee that they could repair the vehicle. in addition, the contact stated that he could not drive the vehicle because the key failed to insert into the ignition switch. the vehicle was not taken to a dealer for the ignition failure. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failures. the failure mileage was approximately 54,000. the vin was not available.

So inside of my vehicle i am unable to open my trunk by flipping the trunk switch. my left passenger door is unable to function properly. the windows won't toll down, the door is unable to lock and it's stressful because my car got broken into because of it. my right mirror turn signal doesn't function any more when i signal right it signals really fast and it's only signals using my headlight and tail light signals. sometimes there is a kick to my car when i'm driving and in a couple of occasion when i start my vehicle my car revs up on it's own. just a bunch of issues it's stressful..

While driving the vehicle at approximately 65 mph the driver seat started to move forward on its own towards the steering wheel in which i was unable to control the driver seat it would not reversenearly causing a serious accident. i also noticed that the vehicle horn no longer works due to some sort ofelectrical issue. the issue took place while i was driving on a major highway.

Electrical harness in driver's door manufactured 2 inches too short wires broken no way to adjust driver's mirror passenger side mirror open trunk open gas cap open drivers window or any other windows nor to lock or unlock doors. when switching drivers the other driver cannot adjust the mirrors it's a safety hazard along with all the other inabilities of these switches not working in that door. volkswagen knows about the problem but will not do anything about it there are thousands of thousands of cars with this problem! just go online and see all the complaints.

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 volkswagen jetta. during a routine inspection, the vehicle failed to pass emissions inspection. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who stated that the signal from the ecu and transmission module indicated that there were two pins that were defective and needed to be repaired. colonial volkswagen (89 turnpike rd, west borough, ma) was contacted regarding the failure, but they refused to assist the contact. the manufacturer was contacted. the failure mileage was approximately 163,000. *tt *tr

Jetta driver side door wiring harness issues creating the following problems: driver window switch inoperative, fuel door switch inoperative, door ajar light is on, door lack switch inoperative. vehicle is parked when this problems are present. there has been technical service bulletins issued to some 2006 jetta owners but no to everyone been affected by this problem. an example of this can be found here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p1eq5xl-zpm this perfectly describes the issues mentioned above.

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 volkswagen jetta. while driving various speeds, the instrument panel indicators remained illuminated. also, while driving on an incline, the transmission would downshift. furthermore, the battery would drain overnight and the vehicle would fail to start. the contact called the lee summit volkswagen dealer (located in lee summit, mo, (816) 600-4224) where an appointment was scheduled for diagnostic testing. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and did not offer any assistance. the approximate failure mileage was 180,000.

Key gets stuck in ignition when turning off the engine.

My car has some shifting problems when in motion.my car has a jerking motion that it does when going into gears and when slowing down its rough going down gears.

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 volkswagen jetta. the contact stated that the vehicle experienced multiple electrical failures that included the headlights shutting off while driving, the door sensors erroneously indicating the doors were opened (which also caused an audible warning chime to activate), and the floor lights illuminated while driving. in addition, the driver side door locks and windows would not operate, the turn signals would no longer operate, and the air bag sensor illuminated. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who was unable to determine the cause of the failures. the manufacturer was not notified. the failure mileage was 175,000.

The driver door wiring harness is to short and in time the wires break where the wires go from the body into the door. there was a recall for the 2005 and 2004 years for this problem.

My volkswagen jetta tdi 2006 got the prnds flash of death, and i found out it was the mechatronic unit when i took it to the shop. i was driving on the highway going 75mph when the flashes started to occur. i couldn't give my engine any power and i started to decelerate at a quick pace, and the vehicle behind me almost hit me. this is a major saftey issue for me and for all other occupants on the highway, because my faulty car could have caused a major accident, that could have resulted in many injuries. i want to bring this attention to the nhtsa to, provide me with more information as to why the vehicle is faulty, and the amount of trouble i would be in if i didn't manage this situation like i did to protect myself and everyone else.

My vw jetta has had issues losing electronic power steering on and off, typically when it rains or the roads have been salted and it is slushy or snowing. this last week i was driving and i lost traction control, cruise control, tachometer, abs brakes and oil pressure. the car would not idle. researching the issue, i found there may be an issue with the wiring harness. i inspected the harness and discovered that several wires have been chafed by the plastic loom and worn through the insulation, exposing the wires. i also discovered that the positive cable to the starter had chafed and worn through the ground wire insulation creating a potential hazard to short the battery.

My vehicle has had previous electrical issues as they pertain to the driver side door and window and its connection to its power draw and battery. in 2014, there was an extended warranty placed on my particular vehicle for replacement and repair of the window/door motor mechanics and wiring harness. i am now experiencing recurring issues and my brand new battery's charge will not hold - often beyond 24 hours as a failure is causing a power draw to drain the car's battery.

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 volkswagen jetta. while driving at an unknown speed, the contact fell asleep and crashed into a pole. the air bags failed to deploy. the contact sustained head and mouth injuries that required medical attention. a police report was filed. the vehicle sustained extensive front end damage and was not repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 180,000. updated 8/6/15*cn the consumer also experienced a problem with the windows and door locks. updated 08/11/15*jb

Tdi engine wiring harness chafed inside the wire loom cause numerous electrical issues. including abs, steering module, airbag, engine speed sensor, temperature gauge, and stability control. very difficult and costly to diagnose.

Driver seat lower right back overheated. burnt a hole in the seat and melted the coat i was wearing. smell of burning in the car and intense heat on my back. turned off the seat heat. when i arrived at my destination, noticed the burn in the seat and later noticed a burn on my coat.. interior of the car is well maintained, never flooded or abused. now i have a car driver seat that is badly damaged, a ruined coat and scared to operate the car or to park in my garage in fear of a fire that could burn down my house and car putting myself and family in harms way. i have noticed several vw cars in the past with the same problem in the same spot and was always thankful that it was not my car. now it is my car with the same problem. called the vw dealer, and they said that there is not a recall on this. this is a problem that can cause a bad burn on a person. i am glad i had a coat on while driving, otherwise i would have had to seek medical treatment for the burn. would like to see vw correct the problem and replace the seat at no charge to the owners. this is a preventable problem that needs corrected. *tr

Lost power to drivers side door. i can't get window, lock, door light to operate also no interior lights on with door open. *tr

Upon research on blogs and reviews the 2006 jetta has several of the same issues. car has 54k miles and cv boots are cracked and needing replacements. the headliner dropped while driving impairing visibility of road ways and hinders view out back windows. drivers side wiring harness. *tr

The wiring harness in the passenger front door has broken. the windows, locks, and blinker on mirror do not work at all or will work sporadically and the airbag light in the dash turned on indicating the airbags are disabled. a mechanic confirmed it was the wiring harness and it was temporarily fixed so the windows could be rolled up to prevent any damage inside from snow and rain. i received a letter from a settlement company in regards to the wiring harness needing to be replaced. the letter states "..the left front (driver's side) door or any wiring or connectors that needed to be replaced when replacing such wiring harness,..." i called the number to ask about the replacement of my wiring harness, and was told because it was the passenger door it did not meet the qualifications. i have since researched the recalls on the 2006 vw jetta wiring harness and what i was able to find, it did not specify a particular side, but stated the jetta's made in that year where manufactured with the wiring harnesses being to short, causing the wires to break. this is what has happened to mine. any information regarding if i meet any guidelines to have this fixed with no cost to me would be greatly appreciated. the safety of my son and i is very important. thank you for your time. *tr

There is no power to the driver's side front door. *tr

Passenger, driver door and sunroof wiring harness short. affects windows and locks, window will intermittently not roll up or down and the door locks will not lock. jiggling the wiring harness gasket seems to resolve the issue each time it occurs. sunroof will open to vent automatically without any buttons being pushed. *tr

At highway speed, car suddenly went into neutral with a flashing prnds on the instrument cluster and "press brake pedal" indicator. once pulled over on the road, car would lock in park and was unable to move the vehicle. car has been diagnosed as having a faulty mechatronic unit. previous recalls have been issued for 2009-2010 mechatronics for the same issue, but not this 2006. nhtsa action number is pe09035 and recall number is 09v333000 for the 2009-2010 cars. volkswagen needs to realize the scope is far broader than just 2009-2010 cars. this vehicle also suffers from the driver's door wiring harness failure like many others (unable to lock doors, operate windows, etc). *tr

The driver side door wiring harness has failed and with it the driver side controls do not work. the door will not lock, the window will not roll down, the gas cap release does not work and the trunk release does not work. the airbag light also came on. i have checked all fuses and have found no problems. after i had a certified mechanic check the vehicle, it was discovered all the wires in the driver side wiring harness are all broken. *js

The driver side door wiring harness has failed and with it the driver side controls do not work. the door will not lock, the window will not roll down, the gas cap release does not work and the trunk release does not work. it also seems to have caused a short the rear driver side door as the window is stuck down and will not roll up. the airbag light also came on. i have checked all fuses and have found no problems. *tr

First noticed that the sunroof on my '06 jetta tdi would intermittently open and (sometimes) close on it's own. since then my door locks no longer function on the drivers side front and rear doors. i cannot use the key to lock all of the doors and activate the car alarm. the rear driver side door never locks even with the key and cannot be opened from the inside by the passenger. the alarm system will not engage and the rear windows will only operate from the driver's door. initially these issues would come and go but have now become a continuous problem. the car cannot be secured. these issues pose a safety hazard to my family and my personal property. i was planning on passing the car down to my son when he becomes old enough to drive (in 2 years) however with these issues i do not trust the safety of this vehicle. after researching the complaints in this database i am shocked that vw has not been made to fix the problem under a recall. this is a common, recurring problem that needs to be addresses by the manufacturer. *tr

*tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 volkswagen jetta. the contact stated that the air bag warning lamp illuminated. the vehicle was taken to the dealer, who stated that the wiring harness needed to be modified. a few months later, the air bag warning lamp illuminated again. the dealer charged $125.00 for the repair and stated that a new air bag may be needed at the cost of approximately $750.00. the failure mileage was 103,300.

The indicator lights on the driver's door console turns off when the door is open slightly more than halfway. if the door is closed the power window does not work sometimes, so i have to open the door slightly for it to work. driver side door works occasionally as well as the trunk with the key less entry. i did some research on the internet and i now believe that it's the wiring harness causing the problems. *tr

The windows, gas door, mirrors, trunk no longer work because of a faulty wiring harness that vw has acknowledged. they are only fixing vehicles with less then 100,000 miles or 8.5 years of service. it is a safety concern because the back two windows can be rolled down by children. i have 2 small children and one with downs syndrome that keeps rolling the windows down because the wiring harness has failed and vw is not going to fix the cars and instead let small children die because they can roll down the windows. also, everytime i have to open the gas lever i scrape my arm on some pointing screws. this is ridiculous that a recall has not been issued on the vw jetta wiring harness. *tr

Our 2006 jetta tdi had an airbag fault. we took the vehicle to a volkswagen dealership and they tested the air code and found out that the passenger occupant detector module went bad due to a electrical malfunction in the circuit. the dealership was not able to say if the airbags were going to work on not in the case of a crash. volkswagen is refusing to take any ownership of keeping their vehicle safe and covering the cost of the part. i contact volkswagen usa and they gave the reason they will not cover the part because i did not have an extended warranty. i feel that volkswagen is being neglectful to their claim on providing a safe vehicle. now that the airbag sensor is going out, we are having more electrical problems with headlights, parking lights, taillights, brake lights, day time running lights, and turn signals. *tr

After using the fob to lock the doors we noticed the rear doors would not lock. if the car is just sitting the rear locks will not lock leaving the door open to children or would be thieves. we also noticed the rear doors would show they were locked once we were moving, but were actually unlocked allowing the rear passenger to be able to open the doors at highway speeds. extreme safety issue! volkswagen needs to address this issue asap. *tr

Been to multiple dealerships claiming in fox valley il rockford il glenview il that either my mechunit is bad/faulty or dual mass flywheel is bad/faulty. was driving where either my car would shift very rough as if someone who is very inexperienced would let go of the clutch late and shift hard/rough into 1-2-3 with clicking noises. car just recently shifted from 2 to neutral and scared the crapout of me. the car has extreme vibration and uncontrolled shift patterns. was turning onto my street and car went from 3-2 to neutral while my car was still in drive and went into a snow bank on side of road. would just like to have volkswagen contact me to either replace or fix this problem. this is very dangerous owners of a 2006 vw tdi or any automatic with dsg mechunit beware and please be careful. *tr

Traveling along at 55 mph and the gear display started flashing/blinking as the car just shut off. it would not restart. battery is fine. *tr

While driving home with my wife, she stated that she thought she had noticed a burning smell. the heated seats were on as it was a cold morning. the next day i noticed that the back rest of the seat had a smoldering mark as well as some sort of smoke damage as if there was a fire on the inside of the seat. we later looked on her jacket and noticed that there was transfer of the "leather" to her jacket. *tr

Driver's rear door lock stopped responding to the buttons on it, and on the main control, and on the remote. it intermittently worked until march and is now dead. the car cannot be locked and that is a safety issue. *tr

Window on driver side sometimes are inoperative. this can be because of wires inside the drivers side door are too short. can be a problem if in an emergency my window must be rolled down. if i'm trapped, what happens if i can't roll down my window to get out! also, ceiling headliner is coming down. can no longer see through my rearview mirror! the headliner liner was cut too short so i can't fix it. please help. thank you so much. *tr

Purchased the 2006 volkswagen jetta in august 2014 with 116,000 miles. one month later the horn was not working. upon doing an internet search, discovered an inordinate number of complaints that these horns become inoperable even with fewer miles. the problem comes when pressing the horn pad on the steering wheel, it does not make contact to sound the horn. the airbag assembly is located here as well so i don't feel it's safe to try to replace it myself. the quote to have this repaired was $900.00. volkswagen should issue a recall on this part immediately! *tr

Driver's rear door lock stopped responding to the buttons on it, and on the main control, and on the remote. it intermittently worked for a month or so and is now dead. the car cannot be locked and that is a safety issue. *tr

All electronic components in drivers door ceased to function. auto door lock, driver's window, gas latch. could not open driver's window. apparently the original design of wire harness was defective in that it was 80 mm too short. vw has issue a technical service bulletin on april 20, 2011 (v97-11-04) identifying this inherent defect. dealer replaced driver's door wiring harness after diagnosing multiple broken wires. vw will not reimburse car owners for repair/replacement. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 volkswagen jetta. while driving at various speeds, the parking warning light illuminated intermittently. in addition, the air bag warning light illuminated and the fuel tank leaked intermittently. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the wiring harness needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 120,000. the vin was not provided.

I was accelerating from a stop sign and i heard a notification "beep" on my car's dashboard. i looked down to see what was wrong and suddenly my steering locked up on me. having no control of my car, i drifted into a car parked on the right side of the street, causing my car to flip over. *tr

I have run into numerous issues on my car that have caused me to troubleshoot and solve these problems. multiple times i have pulled back the abrasion protection on the wiring and found that the insulation common to the wires is crack or worn off exposing the center conductor of the wires. many times there are numerous wires within a harness that are worn through. so far i haven't found any that are shorted out but many are very close and at high risk of causing an electrical short/fire. i am an aircraft electrician/inspector and have found the abrasion protection to be horrible inadequate. there are 2 harnesses that go to the turbo that have a hard plastic abrasion cover but nothing shielding the wire from this cover. on both of these harnesses i found that the plastic had worn a series of ridges down the entire length of wire they covered and exposed the conductor in multiple places. my right hand mirror turn signal was not working so i pulled it out and tested the bulb and found that it was good. when i pulled the rubber boot that covers the wires in the door jam i found a power wire in there that the insulation had cracked and pulled apart exposing .150" of center conductor in multiple places. it seems that the majority of the wiring is either poor quality or just not protected causing the insulation to fail and become a major safety hazard for potential electrical shorts or fires. i have heard these cars are prone to electrical caused fires and strongly believe that something needs to be done in order to avoid more very serious problems with these cars that could cost someone their life. i have only owned this car since may of 2013 and have already repaired 4 wiring harnesses throughout the car. this is something that should never happen on a car that is only 7 years old. *tr

The vehicle stalls whenever driving in wet conditions on the hwy while snowing or raining. i have lost control of the vehicle and have broken down on the side of the road with no shoulder and facing an uphill incline. on each occasion i have had my children in the vehicle with me and facing heavy traffic in both directions. i was fortunate to have a highway patrol officer assist me in pushing the car to off the highway the last 3 times. each time, they informed me that i should contact volkswagen and let them know because it should definitely be a factory recall based on the dangerous circumstances. the problem has been identified on tdi forums http://forums.tdiclub.com/showthread.php?t=239987&page=6 as a wire chafing condition caused by the vibration of the diesel engine. i took my vehicle to the repair shop 3 different times and they were unable to identify the problem because each time i was able to get the vehicle to the shop they were unable to match the driving conditions that i was driving in and each time i was able to start the vehicle after allowing the vehicle to sit for a period of time in order to allow the engine compartment to dry. *tr

This is second time the wire harness supplying electrical components in the driver side door have broken. this breakage causes the crash sensor to become inactivating along with other critical electrical functions in the door, ie window, lock, fuel door. this also has a potential for starting a fire. when i had my car in for a ignition lock problem about a year ago, the there was a comment typed on the service report indicating that the harness appear in good repair. this entry reveals that volkswagen is very aware that they have a problem, however, they are doing nothing to resolve it. *tr

First, vehicle's electronic locks stop responding to depresses from both remotes. replace the batteries to the remote and still the car will not respond. the only way to open the door is by manually inserting the key into the drivers side, which is the only manual keyhole, and turning left twice. once turn unlocks the driver's side door, another turn unlocks the passenger doors. after some time passenger doors stop responding to second turn. passenger doors do no lock when manually turning key the right from the driver side door, which is the only manual keyhole. the passenger doors that do not lock cause the alarm to go off when opened. depressing the silence alarm button on key fob does not silence alarm. the only way to silence alarm is by closing passenger door, closing driver side door and turning key right once to lock and left to unlock. doing so only control driver side door. after some time dashboard shows "door open" symbol even when all doors are securely closed and indicator light on door is off. dome light stays on while driving as if the doors are indeed open even though they are securely closed. at this stage the alarm system no longer works either by key fob depress nor by manually turning the lock in the drivers side door as described earlier. doors must be locked by opening each one manually and pressing the lock door button located on each passenger door. pressing the drivers side door lock does not lock passenger doors. all fuses are intact and no electrical issues reported. *tr

2006 vw jetta, driving down street 11/09/12 door ajar light comes on, i stop to close doors and light goes off. i pull into work parking lot and get out of car as i click the key to lock the car, nothing. i then proceed to check the car.. nothing is working. cannot access gas cap to put gas in car, some lights may not be functioning properly, airbag light not on, door will not lock, window will not respond, no car alarm. drivers side of car has no power at all. i have no idea what is and is not working correctly. although i did look online and found hundreds of complaints with regard to a "brown wire or wires too short inside the boot to the body connector". most people report that even after a vw fix, problem not resolved. car not acting properly and with electrical and having been in a vw car fire do not wish to repeat this scenario. i contacted vw customer care who politely told me this is not their problem and refused to escalate to a manager. since this just happened today i have not had an opportunity for vw to look at it, but will tomorrow as i have to find a way to put gas in car and see if they feel auto is safe to drive. i don't.. *tr

Electrical problems have been abundant in this vehicle starting in 2012. driver side door locks work randomly. the car responds to the keys randomly even with a new battery. alarm will sound when it fails to respond to key. over the last year lights go out monthly. shifter electronics failed. repaired in june 2014. mechanic had no idea why it would go out which was cause for my concern. *tr
