Tl* the contact owns a 2006 toyota tacoma. the contact received a recall notice for nhtsa campaign number: 14v604000 (suspension). the vehicle was taken to the dealer, but no rust or corrosion was found. the contact later inspected under the vehicle and noticed extensive rust and corrosion. the dealer was notified of the failure and indicated that the statute had expired to have the recall repair performed. the contact indicated that the dealer did not comply to provide a remedy. the failure mileage was unknown. parts distribution disconnect.

I took my truck to malloy toyota for frame inspection regarding the limited service campaign eod- frame rust recall. dealer informed me there was rust, but no perforations. they recommended coating the frame with compounds. i feel that my truck may not have perforations, but it is just a matter of time before the frame becomes perforated, resulting in a dangerous / unsafe vehicle. putting the compunds on the frame is a quick band-aid and does not fix the problem. this frame will become unsafe, it is just a matter of time. this will not only potentially jeopardize the safety of my family / occupants in the vehicle, but also the others that share the road with my truck.

On may 29, 2014 the truck went to boch toyota in norwood, ma for the limited service campaign that toyota sent a letter due to excessive corrosion because of a defect in the frame. boch toyota said the frame was okay and they could coat it with a crc. in january 2016 the truck was at mcgee toyota and their technicians said that the crc had failed and the frame had excessive corrosion. they put in for a new frame because the limited service campaign goes through march 31, 2016, however toyota denied saying they had already coated the frame and that was all they would do. after numerous complaints to toyota corporate they asked me to bring the truck back on march 9, 2016 for their technicians to review. i am told their technicians saw the corrosion but have not been provided a report. there are numerous instances of this frame corrosion on this website as well as in the news and toyota has replaced the frames on the older model tacomas which were coated with the crc and failed. they need to replace this frame as it is a known defect and poses a serious safety hazard. i am attaching pictures of the frame which i took myself and also a sample copy of the letter i received back in 2014 describing the campaign.

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 toyota tacoma. the dealer informed the contact of a manufacturer's customer satisfaction campaign related to frame corrosion. while the vehicle was inspected at the dealer, the contact was informed that the frame was corroded. the vehicle was unsafe to operate and the frame would have to be completely replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage 180,000.

Toyota tacoma limited service campaign. i dropped my truck off in november 2015 for a frame inspection, i was then told i could not drive my truck off of the lot and had to have a loaner vehicle. i was in a loaner vehicle without my truck for 4 months until the beginning of march 2016. the day i got my truck back, the check engine light came on, the codes were p0420 and p0430 which indicate a catalytic converter issue. the check engine light was not on when i took the truck in, or ever in the 2 years i owned it, but the dealership is refusing to do anything but say it needs new converts that cost over $3000. my truck now has a vibration from 50-55mph which was not present before as well. i believe these issues are a direct result of the frame being replace, or the fact the my truck sat stationary for 4 months while waiting for a frame, neither of which were my fault.

The frame of my tacoma 2006 is heavily rusted and perforated. muller toyota, clinton, new jersey has jerked me around for the last seven months, failing to honor the safety recall.

My vehicle was involved in a frame rot recall. dealership checked and claimed there was no rot, so it was just cleaned and undercoated. after just three months dealership found rot through and put a claim into toyota who declined to do the repair work stating their responsibility ended when dealership missed the rust through when checked during the initial recall service. toyota should stand by their recall obligation and do the necessary repairs when such a small amount of time elapsed between initial inspection and when rust through was found.

After relocating to daly city, ca. 94015 ( pacific coast area ) about a 1.5 year ago. i noticed the frame of my 2006 toyota tacoma started to exhibit some corrosion throughout. upon some research online, toyota has initiated a limited service campaign "e0d" in the following states: ct de il in ky ma md me mi mn nh nj ny oh pa ri va vt wi wv & d.c. to address this problem. for 05-08 tacoma vehicles operated in specific cold climate areas with high road salt use, may exhibit more than normal corrosion to the frame. an authorized dealer will inspect the frame. if significant rust perforation is not found*, corrosion-resistant compounds (crc) will be applied to key areas of the frame. if an authorized dealer confirms the frame has significant rust perforation*, an appropriate remedy will be provided. the problem is question here shouldn't only be addressed to vehicles located in the states above, but a safety issue that should apply to all 2005-2008 models affected nationwide. pacific coast areas may not experience high road salt usage, but there are other climate elements like salt moisture from the pacific ocean that can also accelerate corrosion in metal frames if it's not well designed or coated. this issue affects the core of the vehicle frame and its integrity during normal operation and in an event of an accident. if toyota believes their 05-08 tacoma models are having corrosion issues in the above states, why it's not a problem for those living close to coastal areas with high salt moisture like daly city, san francisco, pacific, half noon bay and cities in proximity to the coast. thank you for taking the time to review my concerns. *tr

I have a 2006 tacoma that i bought used and it had the limited service campaign e0d (under coating) applied over the rusting frame and was told that toyota will not replace the frame even when it rots through. this is very unsafe and toyota should be held liable for this and forced to replace the frame. *tr

Got recall notice in december of 2014 for defective rear leaf springs. also got notice in december of 2014 of service campaign to fix corrosion on frame of vehicle. called dealer was told to come in for inspection. dealer determined that my frame was in very bad condition corrosion and rust and that i would need to have the frame replaced. said they would fix and replace the rear leaf srings at the same time they replace frame this inspection took place on wed january 14th 2015.my truck has very low mileage its a 2006 and i have only 60,000 miles on it. after waiting months to hear from dealer i called toyota, they told me in april that they wer still waiting for parts. i filed a case number with toyota, called them back on june 15th 2015 after hearing nothing from them. now on june 15th 2015 they tell me they are still waiting for parts. meanwhile the safety recall says that the rear leaf spring could snap and rupture my gas tank. i need help with this

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 toyota tacoma. the contact stated that the frame underneath the vehicle was corroded. the dealer stated that the frame needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 73,000.

I noticed heavy corrosion on my truck's frame and took it to my local dealer for a check. they stated that there was serious corrosion but no perforation and toyota would only replace the frame if it was perforated; however, toyota had extended the frame warranty to 15 years and i should return annually for checks. a few months later i found a perforation in the frame due to corrosion and returned to the dealership for verification. they sent the information to toyota along with pictures but were told that no service campaign exists for my truck. in fact a service campaign does exist in md where i am from and where the truck was primarily driven until less than 2 years ago but toyota refuses to replace their defective frame since my registration is not currently in md. this frame corrosion is inappropriate and has rendered my truck valueless and unsafe to drive. *tr

There has been limited service recall on my vehicle for frame service. the toyota dealers are giving me what appears to me to be a run-around so they won't have to perform this recall service before the expiration date of the recall will occur. they say they don't have the materials to perform this fix and that the customer list is long. *js

This is a known frame rusting problem that toyota has not addressed properly. i took my 2006 toyota tacoma to the service dealer and they sprayed an anti rust compound on it. the problem is that the frame is totally rusted out and is going to be a safety issue later down the road. toyota reached a settlement with the frame manufacturer, they did not properly coat the frame at time of manufacture. there is not a warranty on the corrosion compound after the corrosion campaign is over in march of 2016. this leaves the consumer with a truck that is not road worthy. i replaced the release bearing in my transmission, while working on it rust was literally falling in my eyes due to the amount of rust on the frame. i have never seen a frame rust out so quickly and am very disappointed that toyota knows there is an issue but is covering it up with a thick tar like substance to "remedy" the problem. this is just covering up a down the road safety issue that should be addressed by toyota immediately by replacing the frame. 1995 through 2000 tacoma trucks were bought back. 2001 through 2004 received anti corrosion compound and or frame replacement. the difference is that those trucks that received the compound received a 15 year extended warranty if the frame were to fail inspection down the road. not the case with the 2005 and up tacomas. *tr

I own a 2006 toyota tacoma prerunner, purchased new from the dealer eight years ago. in less than six years, the cars frame started showing damages and today it shows severe rust and flaking. the severe rust under the car is widespread and in certain areas there are perforations through the frame structure. (see pictures attached). because of this unexpected condition my tacoma has lost considerable resale value and is resting in my driveway for fear of further damage and safety issues. (i have two small children). after some research i became aware that toyota has acknowledged that this excessive rusting is due to a manufacturing defect and addressed the problem for some vehicle owners by either replacing the frame at no cost for the owners or buying the vehicles back. i took the car to the toyota dealer to have it assessed and after a full inspection, the truck failed the rust frame inspection. the toyota dealer report states as follows: ?frame was found to have severe corrosion. frame need to be replaced? with and rough estimate cost of $ 10,000.00. i consider this defect to be a serious and unacceptable condition for a 8 year-old vehicle with toyota?s reputation. i have invested and trusted the toyota brand for over 20 years and feel very disappointed at how toyota is addressing my concerns. i am asking your toyota corporation to take my concerns seriously and to address this severe rust issue the same way you have done with 1995-2000 tacoma owners, either by replacing my frame at no cost or buying back my vehicle. *tr

The body of my tacoma is perfect --no rust. the frame however exhibits stage iv cancer rust. toyota knows about it as they sued '[xxx]" the frame manufacturer and received millions in compensation and in 2009 went with a different manufacturer. in august 2014 they came out with limited campaign for select vin #'s 2005-2008 tacomas sold in the northeast to either treat or replace rusted frames. mine however was not one of them even though i live in one of the select states. how can that be? if they could see my truck they would ask the same question but they have refused to look at it. im sorry but besides the fact that my truck is probably not going to be around to see old age there is the safety factor involved. what if i am hauling a load and the stress of the load breaks a weld that has been eaten away by corrosion? toyota should be forced to do the right thing instead of pretending a problem doesn't exist. go online and enter "tacoma frame rust" if you want to see how prevalent this problem is. thank you. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

2006 toyota tacoma trd sport access cab. found hole on frame rail from rust, about 3/4" hole behind the right front wheel, below the condenser drain. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 toyota tacoma. the contact stated that the frame was corroded. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic. the technician verified that the frame was rusted and there was a hole in the cross member. the vehicle has not been repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 25,000.

I bought my toyota tacoma new in febuary of 2006.a couple of months ago i noticed that the whole frame on my truck is rusted pretty bad.the springs are rusted as is the clips that hold them togoether.when i rubbed my finger over the rust on the frame chunks of rust about 1 eighth of a inch thick just fell off a you could still see rust on the frame under where the chunk came off.i only have 56000 miles on this truck and i am worried that my frame will fail. *tr

We left our truck at a toyota dealership for repair of rattle in front end, state inspection and oil change. the vehicle was returned to us without repair as there is an abnormal amount of rust on the frame and holes through the frame. we were informed that the vehicle will not pass inspection. i called toyota customer service and was informed that our vehicle is not included in the previous recall, but may be included in the upcoming recall. however, i was not provided with a time frame and if our vehicle is definitely included. my husband uses this vehicle to commute to and from work daily and i fear for his safety. *tr

As i was driving home my truck started making a noise from the back end. when i got home i looked at the underside of the truck and both spring shackles were rusted away and holes in the frame above them. the frame is completely rusted and i am unable to drive it because it could cause an accident. i called toyota about it and they said we apologize for the problem but we aren't going to fix it. *tr

'frame problem" rust problem my tacoma has an excessive rust problem on the frame. i don't feel safe driving with my to kids am afraid the truck will not hold on the road while hitting pot holes (one of them is 5 and my oldest one is 10) i am limited to where to go this is my everyday car, it is not cool. i called the dealer and nothing. this truck is an 8 year old car that should'nt have this problem, on toyota forums it sims everyone has this problem. i am hoping the toyota will take care this problem before the winter starts :( *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 toyota tacoma. while the vehicle was undergoing an unrelated repair, the technician noticed that the entire frame was rusted. the dealer replaced the entire frame. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 93,000.

Returning home with my grandson from visiting a state university i head a knocking sound in the front of the vehicle. i thought a rubber bushing had failed because previous models of toyotas (tercels) made the same sound when the torsion bar bushings needed to be replaced. upon returning home i found the sway bar had come out of the left bracket which secures it to the frame and was striking the front left spring of the spring and shock absorber assembly. the sway bar bracket had bent under the weight of the sway bar because the frame had rusted out where the rear sway bay bracket mounting bolt connects to the frame. there is no frame material on the bottom of the frame to reattach the sway bar bracket.the bottom of the frame has rusted out. looking at the bottom of the frame it has excessive rust. i have owned toyotas since 1977 or 78. owning tercels, corolla, camry, 1995 toyota pickup and a 4runner. toyota quality this tacoma is not! *tr

Significant rust in the frame of the vehicle. baseball size hole in the frame adjacent to the driver side catalytic converter. major rust throughout the rest of the frame. you can see swelling in some areas where there are two layers of steel that are sandwiched together. brake and fuel lines have severe corrosion. factory installed towing hitch is completely un-usable due to severe rust. toyota corporate told me i am out luck. would hate to see what would happen in a crash of one of these trucks with a defective frame! the brakes could fail also due to the rusted brake lines. fuel lines could also start leaking at some point creating a fire hazard. *tr

My truck has been officially been declared unsafe to drive. i am experiencing extreme and unusual rust and corrosion on the frame of my 2006 toyota tacoma. this is not the kind of rust you would expect to see due to normal wear and tear. the first indication from my dealer that there was a problem was when i took the truck in on 07/10/14 for an oil change. i was told that the frame was so severely compromised by rust and corrosion the dealer recommended that it be repaired immediately. when i was taken into the service area and shown the truck on a lift, i could see that there were actual holes rotted through the frame and it had literally begun flaking and falling apart. i contacted a certified welding technician and had the affected areas reinforced as best we could. when i took the truck to be inspected on 09/16/14, i was told that it would not pass due to the advanced deterioration of the frame, in spite of the repairs. this is not normal rust for an 8 year old vehicle used to commute to and from work. the rest of the truck is in excellent condition, there is virtually no deterioration anywhere else. i have also been told by my dealer that they will not even consider a trade-in (kelly blue book trade in-value should be $9,300 or private sale $11,668). the truck is beautiful, looks almost new and runs perfectly and is worth nothing? the only issue is the frame, which in the opinion of the auto body garages i have consulted, was caused by a manufacturing defect. please note: toyota now has a limited service campaign in place for 2005-2008 tacoma's, for which my vin is not yet included. the problem has been acknowledged by toyota and based on the evidence provided by my own dealer, clearly exists in my vehicle. please do not ignore this growing problem until these compromised frames result in widespread injury or death, please open a new investigation now.

due to the rusted frame issues that i reported to toyota on 04/16/2014 (muller toyota and toyota corporate) my clutch pedal stuck to the floor when crossing an intersection almost causing a crash when the rusted clutch slave cylinder stuck . there are big rust holes in the frame and toyota freely admits that they are defective frames , but won't have a recall on those model tacomas until enough people complain or get injured or killed ! something should be done about these defective frames that rust from the inside out. *js

Vehicle failed pa inspection due to extensively rusted frame. the entire frame has been compromised. there are visible holes in the frame including spare tire support, gas tank supports, etc. the dealer and i both contacted toyota but they refuse to stand behind their product because the said they are not required to since no notice has come from nhtsb. according to the dealer, this same problem is known on earlier models of the tacoma and the toyota tundra. *tr

The vehicle frame is very corroded in numerous spots, especially in weld areas and behind the front wheels. some fasteners also appear to be abnormally corroded. the engine accessory pulleys are also in very poor condition. the corrosion is odd in that it is not consistent. i mean that some components and fasteners show minor corrosion while others are excessive. the vehicle frame is also very corroded in isolated areas and not uniform. odd. *tr

Holes are rusting in the frame. *js

Frame rust deemed so bad by toyota tech that he refused to put the truck on a rack for inspection and service. *tr

I have been experiencing significant rusting of my frame. i have complained to toyota about it with little satisfaction. i also waiting excessively about rear leaf springs recall notices. remedy taking too long. i also issues with tsb but toyota placing burden on owner, not company.
