I bought a used 2005 tacoma in july of 2019. no frame issues were apparent at the time that i purchased it. the week after i bought it, i took it to the dealership to have recall work done on the leaf springs and seat belts. i asked the dealership service department to check out the frame because i had become aware of the frame service campaign. they told me that the deadline had passed in january of 2019 and that they couldn't do anything about it. i have since discovered much more troublesome frame corrosion and am concerned that the truck is not safe to drive.

Mechanic noted rust on frame. contacted toyota, there was a lawsuit about premature rusting on frames, but settlement is done and there is nothing they(toyota) can do?

Exhaust system was in need of repair. shop would not be able to fix because the frame is so rusted there is nothing left to attach new parts to. shop showed me large holes in frame. then advised me that i should not be driving it with the possibilities of breaking. which i have heard happen to others. i have never received a notice or recall for this problem. the only recall that i have received and taken care of was the issue with the accelerator. this alarms me since i often have my children with me.

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 toyota tacoma. the contact stated that while driving, the vehicle pulled to the right. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and was informed the chassis was bent and was to take the vehicle to a toyota dealer. the vehicle was not taken to a dealer and was not repaired. the contact stated that the chassis was previously replaced at toyota of bristol dealer, (3045 w state st, bristol. tn 37620, (423) 212-4266), however the failure recurred and was not taken to a dealer and was not repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 264,488.

We brought the truck in to have it checked for rust and corrosion that we seen, palmers airport toyota said they seen none, the a-frame has rusted and corroded to the point of snapping and the metal is corroded and peeling with a crack going around the whole a-frame. the truck is now not moveable, the whole tire will fall off if we do move it, we made it back to our home with it luckily and toyota corporate says there is nothing they can do.

The 2005 toyota tacoma bumper is mounted to the hitch. the hitch is welded to brackets that connect to the frame. the frame has been replaced with previous campaigns, however there is a severe safety issue with these hitches. any tacoma with the bumper mounted to the hitch would be at risk of creating a hazard for other drivers. if i had been towing something with the hitch, it may have caused my vehicle to overturn and kill me or what i was towing could've separated from my vehicle and caused another accident. i called toyota and logged this complaint. the dealer and manufacturer both state there is nothing they will do to help me out. this is a $1700 hitch/bumper assembly replacement bill. i'll fix it of course on my own as a responsible driver that's concerned with my and other driver's safety. unfortunately toyota doesn't seem to be concerned with people's safety on the roads. that's unfortunate.

Toyota frame recall - i have a 2005 toyota tacoma with holes and cracks visible in the frame. i can only imagine the damage internally to the frame. huge chunks of frame rust come from the inside of the frame when pressure washed. the truck was originally purchased and resided in the northeast for the majority of the vehicle's life. the truck was obviously exposed to road salts and as a result the frame has been compromised. the toyota dealer must be aware of the history of the vehicle as the truck was serviced regularly at toyota dealerships and third party service centers throughout the northeast. in 2014 toyota tried to covered up the problem with a "rust inhibitor" which only hide the true damage on the frame. i recently took my truck to autonation toyota at 2555 colonial blvd, fort myers, fl 33907 phone:(239) 321-5413 for a different recall, the rear springs. i requested the frame be replaced under the recent toyota frame recall settlement and was simply ignored. i am currently driving my truck as a necessity knowing there may be a catastrophic failure at any time. toyota has agreed in court to either replace or buy out the vehicles affected. my truck is a danger to myself and others on the road but i can't afford another vehicle. i have taken pictures of the affected areas of the frame as evidence of the damage. please help!

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 toyota tacoma. the vehicle was taken to an independent dealer where the contact noticed that the entire frame was fractured. it was diagnosed that the entire frame needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 14v604000 (suspension). the part to do the repair was unavailable. the contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 84,500. updated 06/21/17*lj

The frame is rusting and has perforations which could lead to frame failure. the vehicle has been kept in immaculate condition over its life. the level of corrosion on this vehicle did not happen in two years. toyota needs to notify their customers that these vehicles are corroding faster (because they fought the same issue in court and won). they need to point that they are not legal to drive despite the inspections approved.

Toyota truck recall on frame rust and corrosion. i brought truck to prime toyota lancaster ma the frame was coated with an undercoat paint. the truck went in for repairs when it was on the lift the mechanic said there were holes and corrosion in the frame and it was a safety issue to drive. i asked the dealer about having it fixed i was told to contact corporate. corporate told me the recall has been closed out and that did what was necessary to fix it. they just covered up the rust and corrosion. i'm afraid to drive my truck for fear i might get seriously injured. i need help thank you!

Frame defect with rust and corrosion. not sure when the corrosion started, but i discovered nov 11, 2016 - while doing a transmission fluid change. the major rust and corrosion appear to be concentrated near the catalytic converters on both sides of the vehicle affecting the integrity of the frame. see attached photos for left side (driver side) and right side (passenger side).

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 toyota tacoma. the contact took the vehicle to be serviced for nhtsa campaign number: 14v604000 (suspension). the campaign expired in march of 2016 and the undercoating, performed by another dealer, failed to stop the corrosion. it was diagnosed that either the frame needed to be repaired or the entire vehicle needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 142,000.

While underneath truck investigating noise from vibrating metal i noticed the frame badly rusted near the catalytic converter to the point where a large hole formed. rusted pieces of the frame fall off when lightly tapped with a hammer. a quick internet search made it apparent this is a very common problem. truck was bought and always registered in a southern state but was driven in illinois for 3 years while on military orders. there is surface rust everywhere but i haven't done a complete inspection yet to find other holes.

The tacoma is susceptible to unusual amounts of frame rust and while underneath mine, changing the oil in the truck i found holes in the truck frame large enough to fit my fist in. so far i've received the run around from toyota. they had a limited service campaign and replaced many truck frames. that stopped in march of 2016. now they aren't doing anything about this problem and leaving it on the shoulders of americans to deal with. in addition to that, after their own admission, one could only suspect that the frames that weren't replaced have a high likelihood of failure on the highways, especially in states where they (the states) don't do rigorous inspections to get vehicles licensed. after the research that i've done i've discovered a few things; the trucks have a fundamental frame problem. toyota admitted that there is a problem. many of us, (tacoma owners) can't afford to replace the truck frame or purchase another vehicle to replace it with potentially making the highways and toyota drivers unsafe because of a known manufacturing defect that toyota won't rectify. additionally, i'm sure based on forums and other reviews i've uncovered online, that many of the vehicle owners are completely unaware of the defect and the threat to their own safety, and the safety of those around them on the roadways due to said defect.

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 toyota tacoma. the contact was included in nhtsa campaign number: 14v604000 (suspension). the contact stated that the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for routine servicing and was informed that there was extensive rust, corrosion, holes, and cracks in the frame. the vehicle would not pass an inspection unless the parts were replaced. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and indicated that the recall remedy statute expired in march of 2016, but refused to provide a recall repair solution. the contact was informed to take the vehicle to a dealer for diagnostic testing. the contact was uncertain of when the vehicle would be repaired. the failure mileage was not available. parts distribution disconnect.

The frame on this truck had been replaced due to excessive rust. the rear bumper support bc and factory installed tow hitch were re installed. that was november 2014. in august of brad 2016 while towing a small camper on the mass turnpike, the hitch to frame attachment failed on the driver's side of the frame. pulled over when i heard the thump.

I am writing to you in reference to my 2005 toyota tacoma. as you may be aware, tacomas have been having problems in the states with harsh winters, and with corrosions of the frame from road salt. the problem has been so evident that toyota has admitted to not having adequate corrosion resistant protection. the first time i became aware of this issue was at the end of june 2016. i called my toyota dealer about two other recalls and inquired about the frame issue as well. the service technician told me that the frame in fact had a 'limited service campaign' issued by toyota which expired march 31, 2016. he said to bring in my truck for the other two recalls (one was for the leaf spring) and he would inspect the frame (see page 2 of service invoice). after inspection, the technician said he did not think the truck would hold up in an accident. i called toyota customer service experience, in california, and asked for their help and explained the situation above. they gave me a case number (1607110805) and said they would get back to me. when i received the call back, they declined my request do to missing the deadline. if this problem is a known situation with tacomas (enough for a 'limited service campaign'), one would think to ensure the safety of their customers, they would send a certified letter. not only is my safety in jeopardy, but i cannot even trade my vehicle in for one that will ensure my safety due to financial limitations and the decreased value of my truck not having this issue resolved. if toyota really cares about their product and the safety of their customers, they would do the right thing and replace my truck frame (especially since one of their own certified mechanics determined the truck has been effected by the very same campaign). thank you for taking the time to read this and hopefully you can help me resolve this issue. *tr

I purchased a 2005 toyota tacoma in august of 2015. i took my vehicle to a toyota dealer to remove a wheel lug nut in september of 2015. i was advised by a toyota service representative that there was a recall on the frame of my truck but when the service records were checked, the service representative advised that the recall service had been performed on my truck by treating the frame. on march 17 2016 my son took the truck to our local toyota dealer in reference to the leaf spring recall. the service representative advised the same information to my son in reference to the frame recall and that the service treatment had been performed. my vehicle was never inspected on these two occasions at the toyota dealer for possible frame damage. my son and i inspected the vehicle and located what appeared to be rust near the leaf spring hangers which was coming under the protective coating that had been applied by toyota. i scheduled an appointment with my local toyota dealer to inspect the frame. on april 15 2016 the service representative advised me that the frame had a hole in the frame on the drivers side near the part of the frame where it starts to go towards the motor. the service representative advised that in his opinion the hole had been there for awhile and that the hole could not have gotten that large in a year since being treated.i contacted toyota and was advised this was not a recall but a service campaign and that it expired on march 31 2016 and that they could not give any assistance with the rusted frame.i advised the toyota case manager that i could understand if it had never been inspected or treated but that's not the case with my vehicle. i also advised the case manager that it was apparent that the frame treatment did not stop the problem with rust in the frame. she just kept advising that toyota could not assist me with this matter.

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 toyota tacoma. the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 14v604000 (suspension). the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that there was corrosion around the attachment area of the leaf springs. the technician diagnosed that the subframe needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the subframe was previously sprayed with an anti-corrosion agent under an extended warranty campaign by the manufacturer. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 76,000.

Paint peeling from rood.

10 - 12 inch long vertical rust and cracks in the frame. located on both sides of the frames interior. locations are both opposite of the catalytic converters. i was told by a friend there was an issue and toyota was replacing the frames due to inferior quality of production causing a safety issue in which the frames were rusting from the inside out. i made an appointment with the local dealer on 4/4/2016, i had to wait until 4/13/2016 for the first available appointment. upon arriving at the dealer i was informed the "recall" expired march 31st and they can do nothing for me. they refused to even look at the issue. i called toyota to ask if there was any recourse as i had never received notification of this issue let alone a deadline. i was told this was not a recall and the time had expired and there was nothing they would do for me. i am afraid the truck is not safe to drive.

2005 toyota tacoma frame rust recall. toyota rep inspected the frame and stated it has failed due to rust and corrosion. toyota refuses to offer any remedy for this problem. frame could break and cause personal or vehicle damage.

A limited service campaign notified me of possible frame rust problem. received crc coating 9/10/2014. noticed rust had advanced through the frame and notified dealer. dealer checked damage 3/21/16 and gave me a toyota customer service number. toyota said they couldn't do anything about it since i received the crc coating, which was poorly applied. (see pictures of overspray on bed, indicating it had not been removed to spray the whole frame) punished for being proactive. stuck with a rusty frame.

The toyota dealer in concord, nh inspected my 2005 toyota tacoma on march 17, 2016. they reported that the frame is corroded and that there is a perforation inside the frame by the front body mount. they suggested i called toyota. three phone calls to toyota. they are aware of frame corrosion issues, but refused to correct this, because "the replacement program no longer applies." clearly the manufacturer is aware of a problem with this model, yet refuses to address an issue that is a safety risk.

My truck frame is severely rusted. toyota had a voluntary frame exchange program, for which i qualified. i first took my truck to the local dealer (penn toyota in greenvale, ny) for inspection as per toyota's program in october 2015. dealer confirmed that a new frame is needed and advised me that it is on order. since oct 2015, i followed up with dealer several times, and in january 2016, dealer advised that they do not have the documentation in their system. so i brought my truck back in again, and service manager jimmy confirmed that i am entitled to a new frame under toyota program and they will place the order for me. again, i continued to follow up several times each month and was told that frame is on order. in march 2016, i followed up again with dealer because the toyota program was about to expire. dealer again reassured me that my case is in the system but it will take some time to receive new frame. in april 2016, i followed up again but this time i was told that there is no data in their system about having ordered a new frame for my truck. i immediately contacted toyota corporate office and they opened a case number (160-422-2525). i was told by toyota representative handling my case that they are getting a new frame for me. it is now september 2016 and i still have not received any new updates. due to the large rust holes in my frame and having read reports of other owners having similar issues (and toyota's acknowledgement of the problem as evidenced by the frame replacement program), i have not been able to fully make use of my truck since i first learned about the rust because i do not feel safe driving it.

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 toyota tacoma. while having the vehicle inspected, the contact observed corrosion on the frame. the vehicle was taken to local dealer (cox toyota 3860 danbrook road, burlington, nc 27215) where it was diagnosed that the frame had excessive corrosion and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was contacted and informed the contact that a recall was sent out years prior. the contact stated that he was the original owner and never received notification of corrosion on the frame. the failure mileage was approximately 239,000. updated 09/07/17*lj *cn

In reference to u.s. district court for the western district of arkansas case number: 1:14-cv-02208 i currently own a 05 tacoma that has the frame rusted completely, i've contacted toyota repeatedly about this issue and they are denying to fix this because this vehicle is no longer in the usa. my argument here is that toyota has known about this problem and has had may complaints about it yet did nothing about it, they should fix this the vehicle regardless of where it is because it poses a major safety risk to my life and others on the road.
