Toyota sent a recall card in 2011 to rust proof the frame. they covered up the rust and said the vehicle was good to go. the frame has rusted to the point the vehicle is not safe to drive. i have a friend that had the same problem and they purchased his vehicle and i know several people have had their frame's replaced at no charge by toyota. they avoided the issue and now i have a unsafe vehicle.

The body is totally rust and broken. is unsafe to drive. i am the third owner

The frame has been diagnosed by 2 separate repair shops as being not drivable due to holes. this make and model was recalled for this reason and was brought into a toyota service center in 2009. the frame was inspected "ok" and no work was done. the frame is now rotted and i am now being told it is ineligible for repair because it is now outside of the 15-year warranty window. this vehicle was, in fact, brought to toyota within the window and nothing was done about it.

When i changed the oil in march, i noticed a huge hole on the inside of the left frame member, next to the gas tank. i then checked the right side, and found a long line of rusted through holes along the bottom of that frame member. i feel this is a major safety defect by the oem's selection of steel grades.

Tl* the contact owns a 1999 toyota tacoma. the contact stated that the vehicle was included in nhtsa campaign number: 01e041000 (trailer hitches). the manufacturer had not sent a recall notification. the vehicle was purchased from an independent source who did not mention if the vehicle was inspected before it was sold. the contact was not informed of the vehicle's extensive rust, corrosion, and holes pertaining to the frame until after it was purchased. the dealer was not contacted. the manufacturer issued 14 technical service bulletins regarding the structure. the manufacturer was contacted to determine if the recall remedy would still apply. the contact was waiting on their response. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 103,000.

Holes rusted through on frame. believe it's called lift spring bracket broke because of rust. mechanic informed me a couple of days ago when i wanted to know if rusted out hole in frame could be repaired

Frame rusted so bad there are holes, and a bracket has broken lose causing the wheel to move. was told too dangerous to drive by mechanic a couple of days ago.

Toyota tacomas of this year are a safety hazard due to frames that rust through and become weak to the point of failure. toyota has not done enough with its voluntary service repair leaving thousands of these trucks on the road and putting all drivers at risk of death or serious injury from frame breakage. toyota should recall any and all remaining trucks and provide frame repair suitable for safe on-road operation. my vehicle frame is nearly entirely rusted through. it was inspected during toyotas service campaign and found not to be bad enough for repair, now it is too late and no longer qualifies for repair. the picture provided shows my driver side frame rail bottom. the top of this frame rail is so soft i can push through it with my fingers. the passenger side frame rail has marginally less rust through but is still in an unsafe condition. these vehicles are dangerous and someone will be injured, if someone already hasnt, as a result of these poor quality frames.

The frame on my 1999 toyota tacoma is rusted to the point that it is on long safe to drive the truck it's a know problem with toyota and they will not do anything to fix there own problem cause it will dip into the billions of bonus money these crooks make each year. drive it till it snaps in two they will tell you

The frame of the truck is rusted and shows perforation of the metal, nearly through the whole frame on rear passenger side, near shock attachment as well as driver side rear in same area. unsafe to drive.

Tl* the contact owns a 1999 toyota tacoma. the contact stated that while performing a routine maintenance on the vehicle, the contact noticed that the sub frame of the vehicle exhibited corrosion located near the rear leaf spring of the vehicle along the weld. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 260,000.

The frame of the truck has completely rusted through just before the back drivers side wheel. it has split completely through the metal and runs all the way down toward the front . all the way down. it scares me to drive it bnut it is the only tranportation i have and no choice. this happened in the past year.

1999 toyota tacoma. our local toyota dealer inspected the frame last week and confirmed that it has the rust issue covered by the 15 year extended warranty except for the fact that the 15 years ended two years ago for my vehicle. toyota applied a thick under coat in 2011 but it actually prevented the discovery of the defect until after the 15 year extended warranty had expired. this is clearly a recall situation or at the very lease they should honor the extended warranty on my truck because they hide the defect.

Dec 13, 2015, while bending down to pick up my reading glasses in the driveway, i noticed a clean through fracture of the frame, rear passenger side, just in front of the shock absorber fitting. a few days earlier i had wondered why the bed was tilted up pinching the back of the cab. the vehicle had passed state inspection year after year and had been see by my regular mechanic less than 2 years ago and no issues with frame deterioration were found or brought to my attention. i contacted toyota and just yesterday was told, sorry about your "rust" issue, but the warranty has long expired. this is a well documented design and manufacturing defect tied to improper prep by toyota frame contractor dana holding corp. the vehicle was fully operational and now it is un-driveable. if the vehicle had come apart at highway speeds, it could have caused serious injury or fatality. this is my only means of transportation as a fixed income retiree. there's no justifiable reason a vehicle frame should fail like this only to have toyota tell me they will do nothing. my troubles aside, this is a very serious public safety risk and a risk to all service personnel, owners, their passengers and others on the road in their vicinity. it was only by sheer luck that i discovered this while the vehicle was parked.

Toyota sent a recall a few years ago to check and fix a problem with rust on the vehicle frame. i took it in for the 'fix', now (11/19/15) i find out my frame has rusted through and is very unsafe to drive. this is a popular truck and there are alot on the road, some may be in the same situation i am in. toyota's response was' we can't help you'. after the 'fix' i was told that i would have no problems in the future.

Tl* the contact owns a 1999 toyota tacoma. the contact stated that while driving at approximately 30 mph, a loud pop sound was heard and the vehicle jerked violently. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the rear frame was severely corroded and detached. the contact mentioned that the whole frame needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 160,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 1999 toyota tacoma. the contact stated that the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for inspection and it was discovered that the entire subframe had excessive rust and fractured. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 110,000.

My 1999 tacoma has just been declared unsafe to drive by a local repair shop due to excessive rust on the frame (i brought it to the shop to have some a/c work done). as part of the toyota service program, the truck was inspected last in october 2013, and passed the corrosion test. at that point the truck had 106,000 miles. i had purchased the truck afterwards, based on this inspection being done by toyota and passing. the truck now has 119,000 miles on it, and it is not safe to drive. i called toyota corporate and they stated that since the truck is now outside the 15-year coverage period, i have no options. i shared that the truck was inspected by them and that it is nearly impossible for a truck to go from no rust issue to significant rust issue in less than 2 years and less than 14,000 miles. she (phyllis) agreed with me and said that she would be frustrated also and that it makes sense that this shouldn't have happened, but it is now outside of the period so i have no options.

Tl* the contact owns a 1999 toyota tacoma. while driving at 50 mph, the contact heard a noise emitting from the rear of the vehicle. upon further inspection, the contact noticed that the rear driver side leaf spring shackle fractured from the frame. in addition, the contact noticed corrosion on the frame of the vehicle. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 149,000.

On april 8, 2015, i took my 1999 toyota tacoma to my local mechanic i for routine maintenance. he informed me that the frame was so severely rusted that it was no longer safe to drive and that they would not perform the repairs. they also informed me that any attempt to repair the frame would still render it unsafe. they also checked for recalls/buybacks on the vehicle and it was not eligible. i was planning a 2000 mile trip with load. had i proceeded with the trip without knowing the extent of the damage, i would have been in grave danger. *tr

Noticed my truck was leaking gas. upon further inspection it appears to be coming from the tank and then i noticed that the frame is rotted out around where the leaf spring is mounted. my truck frame was inspected by toyota years ago and i was told that it passed. i know about the extended frame warranty but just my luck it expired for my truck at the beginning of this year. i usually do a visual of the frame when i wash my truck but didn't notice anything. i'm not sure what i should do i can't drive my truck this way. i know toyota is going to give me the run around. *tr

I purchased my 1999 toyota tacoma 4x4 11/2013 at a small dealership. i checked the vehicle out pretty good before purchase and found lite surface rust on frame and thought nothing to worry about. 12/2014 i was working on emergency brake, do to sticking and notices a large rust hole at the rear leaf spring. i started looking on the internet for local frame repair company's and found out about the problem with this year tacoma. i called toyota service and they said there was nothing they could do because the warranty ran out on frame rust. i called a local toyota to buy a new frame, they told me they don't manufacture that year anymore. i took it to a frame repair shop and they told me it would cost $2600 to fix the rear half section of the frame and to replace the front section as soon as possible. the whole frame, if they locate one used from out west and repair would be $6000. it really seems that there is a serious safety issue here and there hasn't been a recall on the frame. if they recall they have to fix all the years mentioned. *tr

The toyota tacoma 1999 that i purchased had a 15 year extended warranty due to a defective frame susceptible to rust. the warranty ended on 4/10/2014 but i didn't purchase the vehicle until 7/27/2014. the dealer did not disclose the poor frame condition and allowed me to purchase an unsafe vehicle at the kbb value. i cannot afford to repair the defect or buy a new vehicle. is there anything that nhtsa can do? is there any way that toyota can be asked to extend the warranty by one more year? can they make this an actual recall instead of an extended warranty? thank you in advance for your time and consideration. *tr

We recently discovered a large rust hole in the frame in front of the rear wheel of our 1999 toyota tacoma. after talking to our mechanic about repair, we discovered that toyota had issued a warranty extension for frame due accelerated rusting of the frame and manufacturer defect, but we were never notified. we contacted toyota, and they said the warranty had expired on june 10, 2014. apparently, the previous owner had been contacted, but not us. we purchased the truck on 2/20/2013. our mechanic has warned against driving the vehicle due to frame rot. toyota is not willing to extend the warranty even though we were unaware of it and not notified. so, we now have a vehicle that runs well and is in good shape mechanically and body-wise, but we have concerns about driving it safely on the highway. *tr

We just learned recently about the issue with the toyota frames rusting out and when we took the vehicle to toyota to get it looked at they responded that the 15 year frame warranty expired on 5-27-2014. we were never notified by toyota about this issue, nor were we aware of this problem until recently when a friend had an issue and told us about it. if toyota would have notified us we would have had the frame inspected prior to the warranty period expiring. they did notify me in 2007 or so about a recall on my 1990 toyota but not this one for my 1999 which is very a serious issue. *tr

Truck has perforated rust through the frame. after researching online, this appears to be a known issue impacting older toyota tacomas. i have received no notice of any issue from toyota despite having a good address on file, but after contacting toyota, they have informed me of a 15 year extended program specifically for perforated frame rust issues on this truck. per toyota, this program lapsed two months prior to my call. online research and local dealership confirms, toyota was buying these trucks back and paying 150% of the kbb excellent value, in order to simply crush the truck and move on. per toyota, since i have found the program on my own and am calling two months late, they are not willing to take any corrective action whatsoever, either repair or repurchase. per the dealer, they are getting multiple inquires into this due to people not being aware of the program. at this time, the frame is so damaged due to rust that it is unsafe to drive due to the potential of total collapse. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 1999 toyota tacoma. after greasing the drive shaft underneath the vehicle, the contact discovered three rust holes located in the middle and rear of the leaf spring mount. the dealer stated that the main frame was faulty due to rust. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer stated that the buy back offer expired. the failure mileage was 52,000. the consumer stated the vehicle was repaired . the frame was replaced and sprayed with rust proofing. updated 12/16/2014 *js

Frame rust by rear driver leaf spring connection and obvious rust all over frame. *tr

tl* the contact owns a 1999 toyota tacoma. the contact stated that while the vehicle was at the local mechanic for inspection, the subframe was found to be severely corroded. the contact was advised that the vehicle was unsafe to drive. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the vin was not available. the failure and current mileage was 310,000.

On march 26, 2014, i learned by word of mouth about the rust corrosion problem with toyota tacoma's. on that day i contacted toyota to verify the information i received. i was told by toyota about the "rust corrosion program" and that my tacoma would need to be inspected and that i had until sept. 2014 to get this completed, as that is when the promotion expired for my truck. i was also told that a letter notifying me went out in 2008 and i was provided the address it was send, which was not the address where my truck was registered in 2008. thus i did not receive any information from toyota about the program. on april 14, 2014, the frame on my 1999 toyota tacoma was inspected by a toyota dealership. upon completion of the inspection, it was determined that my tacoma was "unsafe" to drive due to a large rust hole on the frame from the left side of the fuel tank to the rear of the tank. when i reported this information to toyota they told me that the promotion had expired for my truck. i referenced the information that i initially received from toyota and they informed me that the information that i received was wrong and that they were unable to do anything for me. i told them that i had never received any information from toyota regarding the rust issue, so how would i know to do anything. they told me that they were "sorry" and they couldn't do anything about it. i contacted the executive offices and again was told there was nothing that could be done and they were sorry. so now i have an unsafe truck and toyota is not willing to do anything about it. *js

Tl* the contact owns a 1999 toyota tacoma. the contact stated while having his vehicle inspected he was made aware that the frame had fractured as a result of corrosion. the technician stated that welding was not an option to repair the defect. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure and current mileage was 160,000. *tr

We own a 1999 toyota tacoma with the rusted frame recall. we had it inspected in 2008 at rick hendrick toyota in fayetteville, nc it had surface rust but they said nothin to worry about. it is now 2014 and the drivers side rear leaf spring front mount rotted right off and the frame is cracked right through. toyota will not honor the frame replacement even though the inspection was done in 2008 and they found nothing well i have pictures of nothing left of my trucks frame and not it totally unsafe to drive . what can i do with toyota not keeping me and my family safe ? *tr

The frame is rusting out and falling apart. this has made the vehicle unsafe to drive.

While breaking slowly coming to a stop , i lost my all my break controls. fortunately i was able to stop the vehicle with no fatalities. the tow truck brought me to my mechanics facility and indicated that the trucks steel frame and parts receded backwards placing pressure on break lines under truck to snap. he showed me that rusting of the frame caused the problem. the carriage moved back by 4" due to rusting and deterioration. i called tacoma customer service and they said nothing can be done to help pay for my expenses. it's costing me $1,750 to replace frame and repair damages to breaks and other components. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 1999 toyota tacoma. the contact stated that the vehicle developed a perforation in the frame to the point that the frame was rusted and corroded. the contact mentioned that the vehicle was included in an unknown manufacturer recall. months prior to the failure, the frame was coated with a solution as a temporary remedy. the remedy failed to prevent the failure. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the frame needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the vin, nhtsa campaign number, and failure mileage were not available.

Frame rusted through. the truck was purchased from toyota libertyville, they refused to repair my truck. according to toyotas document my truck should be either purchased or repaired http://pressroom.toyota.com/article_display.cfm?article_id=2712. *tr

I purchased a 1999 toyota tacoma in 8/2000. the vehicle had a blown engine that had been replaced and had been involved in a minor accident. i bought it from a local auto-body shop for $10,500 where it had been repaired. i have made my living with this truck and have put over 200 k miles on it with no major repairs. it has been trouble-free and i had no thoughts of replacing it. in october 2008, i took the truck to a toyota dealer to be inspected for rust, on the advice of an friend. no rust perforation was found. in august 2011 i received a letter from toyota encouraging me to have the truck re-inspected for frame rust. i did this on 12/30/2011. this time they found rust on the driver's side, on the inside of the frame. the dealer told me that i could not drive the truck without signing a waiver and that the truck was eligible for toyota's repurchase program. i was given a rental vehicle paid for by toyota. on 1/5/2012 i was told the truck did not qualify for the repurchase program because it had a salvage title and to pick it up by the end of the day. i have lost a vehicle with no compensation and no recourse with toyota. there is no relationship between the facts that resulted in my truck having a salvage title and the frame rust. toyota isn't interested in entertaining the merit of my claim, period. please help me. i don't know what to do. *tr

I have a 1999 toyota tacoma which only has 30,000 miles on it and took it in for an oil change to find out the service department had put a hammer through the frame where it had rusted out. now the dealer has my truck and said that it is not going to be able to be repaired because they do not make this frame anymore. i have taken great care of my truck only to find out that toyota is only going to give me 150% bb value due to there faulty frame. this is not the consumers error and should not have to held with the cost of there faulty product. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 1999 toyota tacoma. the contact stated that there was premature rust and corrosion on the vehicle. the manufacturer included the vin in a limited service campaign in which the solution was to coat the rust, but this did not provide a permanent remedy. the contact stated that the vehicle was taken back to the dealer several times over the years and the dealer did not provide a permanent remedy. the vehicle was recently diagnosed by a dealer where it was diagnosed that the frame was rotted with holes and could fracture. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and provided no remedy. the failure mileage was 109,677. updated 07/13/16*lj *js
