When driving at speeds of 38 mph or more and turning the steering wheel/tires, the vsc warning alarm will go off. when this happens, the cars automatically brakes. this happens when there are no problems with the driving conditions. the severity of the braking and length of alarm vary. it is especially problematic on tight turns. it does not matter whether you are going uphill, downhill, or turning on a flat road. we do not know what is causing this unsafe issue. we have tried turning off the trac. it made no difference.
I own a 2006 toyota sienna le with only 26500 miles on it. i was driving my car on the highway doing 45 miles per hour on a dry pavement on tuesday 09/03/2019 around 6:40 pm and at a sudden moment the vsc light started flashing, warning sound came on, the car applied the brakes on its own hard until it fully stopped, and the engine shut off by itself, which almost got me into an accident. i contacted toyota and they told me that i have to pay for the dealer to get the car diagnosed for this safety issue, they transferred me to hudson toyota and they confirmed that i have to pay for it despite that i had my car to the dealer recently for two recalls and they checked the car and gave me a report that everything in the car was good. i have looked online and i found a lot of toyota sienna owners from this model complaining about it and youtube videos documenting it, this link shows a toyota sienna owner documenting on video the same problem (https://youtu.be/sy9a8shj0xg) which happened with him 20 times in the course of 90 minuets and the dealer could not find what was wrong with his car. this issue should be fixed under a recall by toyota because the car should not be able to apply the brake on its own randomly on the highway.
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 toyota sienna. when the contact depressed the accelerator pedal, the steering wheel seized. the contact attempted to stop the vehicle, but the brake pedal failed to operate. the vehicle spun around at least four times to the left and crashed into a parked vehicle twice while spinning. the contact quickly powered off the engine to stop the vehicle from spinning. the contact waited one hour before the vehicle was restarted and was able to drive home. the contact stated that she was in shock and was not aware of any warning indicators illuminated. the contact sustained foot, right hip, and back injuries. the front passenger also sustained back injuries. both occupants required medical attention. a police report was filed. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer and dealer were not made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 140,000.
The brakes suddenly activate with the vsc trac lights and alarm going off, on the slightest turns and while going downhill. i hate having my wife and kids drive this van like this.
the transmission was damaged, the right side passenger side broke, the "brake" lights are on all the time.
The van has several times, without warning, applied the brakes while a light comes on the dashboard and a beeping sound is heard. the last time it happened my wife was merging into traffic and it caused a dangerous situation. i have researched and found this to be some sort of traction control system malfunctioning. it seems to have happened to many people, and many people complain it can potentially cause a life threatening situation. this problem has came on while normal driving or in my wife's case while accelerating to merge into traffic.
Traction control has randomly engaged 4 times in the past week, at speeds as low 35 mph and on the highway at 65 mph. pavement was dry and we were driving straight, not turning. braking is applied causing temporary loss of speed and pulling steering to one side for about 1-2 seconds. control returns and trac control light continues to blink. does not result in an error code.
When driving the vehicle regardless of speed or driving condition the traction control system randomly activates (it is always when going around a curve, but road conditions are dry, speed could be 70 or could be 20, there is no loss of control by me as a driver). this causes the car to abruptly brake. the computer system shows no issues when the dealer looks at it. when i deactivate the traction control system using the button the van will still beep loudly indicating a loss of traction control. it will also kick off the cruise control, but does not activate the automatic braking feature. this has been happening daily for 2 months with multiple visits to repair shops.
Antilock brake system (abs) warning light and parking brake light are on simultaneously, at all times once car is started. issue was diagnosed as faulty abs control module requiring replacement. vehicle has never been in an accident, and to the best of my knowledge, has never even required that the abs be utilized.
I was driving 65 mph on the highway going straight on dry pavement and suddenly a buzzer sounded, the vsc light came on, and the steering wheel and brakes were taken over by the vsc system and the car started weaving out of control. i could not steer or break the car. the situation is unpredictable. it easily happened on curvy or bend road and has happened 3-4 times in this year. it is scary.
A/c system has had problems since 2010, they replaced the belts & told me it was fine until the warranty expired.i have had recalls on all the doors, airbags &nav system replaced three times, 2013 a/c was replaced, 2016 a/c replaced again, & a/c is being replaced for a 3rd time along with two other recalls. tire warnings are persistent. i've never worn out tires or brakes before, except with this vehicle at a rate of every 25,000 miles. (4times td)
The vehicle was in motion . driving up the mountain . when the traction control sensors went on and braked and began moving the steering wheel . alarms where going off when no danger occurred . the next two hours the sensors would alarm. did not matter how slow or fast we drove it would brake going up and down the hill. took car to dealership and they stated that it was a yaw sensor malfunction part number 89180-45010. $900+ charge
While driving the stability warning light comes on, starts beeping loudly and my brakes and steering wheel lock up. this has happened multiple times on the freeway, on freeway entrances with a slight turn and even while just driving straight. each time, the weather was clear and the roads are dry. this happens whether i am driving at a slow speed entering a slight turn on the highway anywhere from 20 to 40 mph and has recently happened while driving about 50 mph on a dry highway just driving straight. the car has also began beeping and flashing the stability light without locking up the steering and brakes. i have almost cause a few accidents with cars almost rear ending my van and me almost sideswiping other cars while this is happening and i have no control of the car. this is frightening! i have had my struts replaced, right drive shaft, brakes, tires, alignment. the repair shops say they have not been able to duplicate this issue when they drive it. there does not appear to be a recall on anything to do with this which is shocking. i have a sienna van so i can carry multiple people with me. i have my infant grandchild with me in this van each day as well as my teenage daughter. i have an appointment with maita toyota tomorrow morning (1/25/18), we'll see what they say, but honestly, i feel toyota needs to stand by their cars and fix this issue at no charge. there are complaints describing this exact issue all over the internet so it is not an isolated problem. this form asks for the date this happened below, i'll add todays date, but it has been going on for over a year.
Stability and/or traction controls (yaw ?) seemed to want to believe the vehicle was in an understeer -- causing the vehicle to want to brake automatically, sounding a traction control alarm. on a bone - dry road !!!
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 toyota sienna. while driving between 10-35 mph, the brakes activated independently and the vehicle control system alarm sounded. the vehicle was taken to a local dealer (toyota of huntington beach located at 18881 beach blvd huntington beach, ca 92648, 855-661-4272), but was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and opened case number: 1708143994. no further assistance was provided. the failure mileage was 102,000.
My slip indicator light comes on as i round turns and the engine seems to rpm down. this happens at normal speeds, on dry roads. unable to drive on the highway, because when slip indicator light comes on, it also applies the front brakes at highway speeds. other owners of toyota sienna are also having the same problem. https://www.cargurus.com/cars/discussion-c9152_ds656326 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tgmjafpifko https://www.justanswer.com/toyota/4rmyw-toyota-sienna-2004-sienna-when-slip-light-indicator.html
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 toyota sienna. while driving 25 mph, the vehicle stalled and the air bag and brake warning indicators illuminated. the contact heard an abnormal beeping noise. the local dealer was not contacted. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified. the vin was unknown. the failure mileage was 143,332.
This afternoon i entered the highway and was going about 60-65 mph when my car suddenly started accelerating on its own, i repeatedly depressed the brake, even standing on it in an attempt to slow the car. the car was making a revving sound and the brakes were doing nothing to slow the car, it just kept accelerating. finally, the brakes seemed to engage, the revving stopped, and the car seemed normal again. i pulled off the highway and called aaa to have the car towed to mechanic. car has about 105,000 miles on it and it's been very reliable up until now. i will report to toyota and i will not drive this car again, much less let my children ride in it.
The car's vehicle stability control (vsc) will activate unexpectedly, braking hard and causing temporary loss of control. there is also an audible alarm and the vsc light turns on. occurs intermittently when driving between 30-50 mph, typically on a gentle curve like a freeway interchange. has occurred as many as 9 times on a single drive, and has caused a couple near accidents. an internet search of online forums shows that this issue is common in siennas after 100,000 miles. thus far my toyota dealer has claimed they are unable to reproduce the problem.
Driving various speeds, up hill or down and into corners especially the traction control or stability control system would engage the brakes and cut engine power, alarm beeping. happened several times over a one hour trip. streering would pull to the right. driving conditions were such that the system should not have engaged at all. dry, warm, newer tires driving recommended speeds for the road. all drivers on the road were at risk with the sudden breaking and steering pulling into another lane.
I was driving my toyota sienna 2006 today morning and the driver in front of me abruptly stopped. i was maintaining a safe distance and immediately hit my brakes. although the brakes seemed to engage, the car accelerated and very badly rear-ended the car in front me. has this happened to anyone before with the car auto-accelerating on it's own? *tr
On march 13, 2015 driving on i-95 south in a 2006 toyota sienna van the cruise control would not disengage when the brakes were applied approaching an exit ramp. the vehicle would not slowdown in spite of pressing the brake pedal as hard as possible. moving the control lever forward to disengage the function was also not successful. the exit ramp was inclined so the cruise control accelerated the engine in an attempt to maintain our speed at 70 mph. the vehicle went thru a stop sign, bounced off the guard rail and came to a sudden stop with the engine not running. the impact destroyed the right side of the vehicle and the stopping was so abrupt that the cell phone (in my shirt pocket)flew out ripping the pocket off the shirt. neither the front nor the side air bags were deployed. skid marks made by the vehicle's right front tire (and possibly the rear right tire) prior to and after hitting the guard rail indicate the brakes were working on at least this side. skid marks attributable to the left hand tires were not noticed. *tr
The car was sent to the dealer for timing belt kit replacement, upon inspection the technician found the anti lock brake system is malfunctioning due to the fact the above mentioned part, part # 44050-08030, the anti lock brakes hydraulic unit, is damage or inoperable. the technician told me this is not the first time he has encountered this situation in the same model/year of my car, but because toyota has not pronounce on this matter there is little he can do about it except for replace the part which cost about $1,680.00, he advise me to inform the proper authorities for further investigation on why the part malfunction. *tr
Abs light and brake lights are on. take the vehicle to a mechanic and they said that it is not the first sienna with that problem and when both lights are on, the abs system is disabled. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 toyota sienna. the contact stated while driving approximately 5 mph the anti skid break light illuminated and the vehicle made a loud beeping sound. the contact was able to drive the vehicle to her residence after the failure occurred. the failure occurred sixty or seventy times over a period of one year. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where the mechanic could not diagnose the failure, because it occurred intermittently. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 84,000.
While driving in a residential area, going 5-10 mph, the anti-lock brake light came on flashing and beeping loudly. the steering system locked up and lasted 45 seconds to 1 minute. it would occur on a highway as well, no reason, ground completely dry. it would occur driving into the pa turnpike toll booth, rounding corners, going straight on 65 mph highway, (it occurred intermittently 60-70 times). the dealer (north hills toyota 7401 mcknight road, pittsburgh, pa 15237 412-318-3000 were unable to fix it after i took it in twice. the last time, they disconnected the antilock brake system to fix the problem. i currently am driving with the system unconnected. *js
The vehicle sustained intermittent brake failures. the brakes would function normally, then completely fail, then begin functioning normally again. this incident resulted in a low speed collision. the initial occurrence was after driving at highway speeds for approximately 20 miles and braking for stopped traffic. after braking to approximately 10 mph, the brakes were released, and then the brake pedal was applied again. there was no braking effort. the driver began pumping the brake pedal, and was able to do so three times before impact. the vehicle was then placed in park and an accident report filed. the vehicle was then moved under its own power to a nearby parking lot, during which time the brakes functioned normally. the vehicle was then taken home. the next morning the vehicle was being backed out of the garage and had another complete brake failure. the vehicle was stopped by placing the transmission in park. at this time, the vehicle is scheduled to be towed to the lariche toyota dealership in findlay, ohio for diagnosis and repair. the telephone number to their service department is 419-423-5656. *tr
Approaching slight right turn on a park way at about 40mph,down hill of the right turn suddenly the slip icon light on the dash board was on and off with beeping sound alarm and observed grinding or braking sound on the vehicle which made jerking like on and off power of the vehicle. road condition was dry and sunny at about 11:30 am. *tr
Removed the run flat tires and replaced them with regular tires. i am constantly having the "tire balance" light go off in my car and getting flat tires. ever since i switched the tires the alignment has always been issue. *tr
