On average, the 2006 Toyota Sienna starts to “feel” problems with the UNKNOWN OR OTHER and its various aspects after 89 465 miles.

Recently reported UNKNOWN OR OTHER problems on 2006 Toyota Sienna

the transmission was damaged, the right side passenger side broke, the "brake" lights are on all the time.

Hi i have toyota sienna 2006.i checked for recalls and found 2 unrepaired.what should i do.another thing, when my car goes over 70 miles it becomes shaking. thank you

When driving the vehicle regardless of speed or driving condition the traction control system randomly activates (it is always when going around a curve, but road conditions are dry, speed could be 70 or could be 20, there is no loss of control by me as a driver). this causes the car to abruptly brake. the computer system shows no issues when the dealer looks at it. when i deactivate the traction control system using the button the van will still beep loudly indicating a loss of traction control. it will also kick off the cruise control, but does not activate the automatic braking feature. this has been happening daily for 2 months with multiple visits to repair shops.

I called toyota dealership 8/6/18 to request recall 17v657 and 14v273 to be repaired. the service personnel told me that they would put my name on a list for someone to call me when the parts were in. i called back today 10/11/18 to the parts department and was told both parts were in. he transferred me back to service who said the parts at the dealership 'were not for me' and i just need to wait. this is unacceptable as i have waited over 2 months for my auto to be repaired. i called the safety hotline on my letter 888-327-4236 and the call was disconnected. please help me to get my car fixed.

The left sliding door would not close, i have sent this issue three times when it was under warantee, and it happened again 8/8/18 same problem the sliding door would not close.. the van was stationary and after opening the left sliding, it would not close.

In the involved vehicles, grease inside the shift lever assembly could transfer to other internal components, causing them to function improperly.

Dash board is cracked all over . and not safe to drive with kids or dogs. i'm in florida witch is very hot state and you can feel and see this is dangerous plastic dash board. . they got recall 2 years ago and toyota dealership close it . this year my dash board is looking horrible, begins just this year. i have same problem with my 2007 toyota camry . i thing toyota used the same material from plastic , that after 10 years it is not safe for people and way to expensive to fix it.

I took my toyota 2006 sienna in to the local dealer on 9/3/16 to have the spare tire cable replaced under warranty after receiving a letter from toyota. i asked the service advisor if the van had any other recalls or warranty through toyota. i was told yes for the rear lift gate struts but parts would have to be ordered. i asked about the melting dashboards since my father had seen it on the news and the van was on the list; even though as with the lift gate, i did not receive a letter from toyota. i asked for the dashboard parts to be ordered at the same time the lift gate parts were ordered. the service advisor told me that the dashboard did not apply to my van. i went to the dealer, asked for the dashboard and was told no on 9/3/16. i drove the van on august 19, 2017 and left it parked in a parking lot for 15 minutes. when i returned i had a melting dash! it was all gooey and sticky to the touch. it was shining like it was coated in grease or oil. the glare reflected in the windshield and i could not see. i was only 4 miles from home and i crawled on the edge of the road with the window open. i called toyota when i got home and filed a case when them. i was told the extended warranty had expired, so they would not help with the replacement of the dashboard. i went to the dealer on 8/22/17, where i had asked for the dashboard back on 9/3/16 and was told they sided with toyota, they would not even order it unless i paid in advance. i asked this second service advisor to look at the dash and confirm it was the melting dashboard problem. he did confirm it. i asked him how it was possible to have just gotten sticky on 8/19/17. he told me that if it was not sticky when i asked for the replacement, according to instructions from toyota, this is why the dealer did not order it. it would cost me over $2000 for a replacement dash!

The cable that opens and closes the side sliding door has become frayed. based on my investigation, this could cause the door to be stuck either open or closed which would create a serious safety risk.

While i was parking my toyota sienna the engine revved and the van took off like a rocket! my foot was on the brake and only the brake the entire time. i finally stopped after running uncontrollably into a building!

In august 2016, the cable to our power sliding passenger rear door broke while on vacation. up to this point the door made a little "groaning" sound when opened but it never failed to work. after the cable broke, we were able to open the door manually for about 1 week, then the door stopped opening. after researching the internet, this is a common problem. toyota has offered a fix to vehicles 9 years or younger for specific year vehicles. ours is too old. if this is a common problem, why is the replacement of this cable prior to breakage a not required maintenance item? i feel this is a safety issue since if we are ever in an accident that requires a fast exit from the vehicle, anyone sitting in the third row will have a difficult exit.

The automatic sliding passenger door jammed approximately halfway open and could no longer be opened or closed. the incident occurred while the vehicle was stationary at a rest stop along i-87. i removed the door panel and observed that the protective plastic coating on the actuator cable had worn off and the bare cable appeared to have cut through one of the plastic pulleys which completely disintegrated thus jamming the door. i had to cut the cable and remove the remnants of the pulley in order to be able to manually operate the door so i could continue driving home with my family. no one was harmed as a result of the incident.

Minivan is kept in garage all the time and driven very few miles per year. however, there is intense cracking all over the dashboard. the dashboard is melting and jeopardizing the airbags being deployed. toyota is aware of this and sent a warranty enhancement notification to get all melting/cracked dashboards fixed free of charge. however, the toyota dealership never called to tell me the part is in and it has been almost 2 years now and now i am told it's past the date to get this fixed. dealership: texas toyota of grapevine, 701 state hwy. 114 east, grapevine, tx 76051 (817) 259 - 1493 is phone number. it is suspect, the order was cancelled so toyota can save money and then tell customers it's past the date of getting this fixed. vehicle has defective, cracking dashboards & toyota know of this.

The right side sliding door will not open automatically also will not shut when automatic button is pushed. i am very concerned this door may not open if needed or shut if needed.

The drivers side passenger door does not stay closed. i have had it fixed once last year and now it flies open again even when your driving. it will not stay closed even if you turn off the power door.

Driver's side power sliding door won't close. it tries to close when you press any of the buttons or handle but it gets stuck and remains open.

Crack or sticky dash due to stick dash sun reflect to your eye which blind you while driving that is dangerous for an accident

Back hatch does not stay up. falls down on head, neck, back of person getting out items. vehicle stationary. there was a nonmandatory recall of this in sienna's with power hatches in 2008.

Noticed for several months a binding in closing electric side doors. a few weeks ago, i could not close the sliding door. noticed a broken cable. the cable was frayed. it is also frayed on the other side of the car. i went to the toyota dealer to get it repaired free. my odometer had 124,000 miles. the toyota extended technical warranty ended at 120,000. this is a major safety issue. the other night i drove home in 28 degree weather with the sliding door open, because it would not close. we had to break the cable to get the door closed when we finallt got home. children can fall out of open side doors on toyota vans!! this is a serious manufacturing problem, and toyota should have to replace the cables at any date that they break so children can get in or out of the car safely, and owners do not have to drive around with their doors open. it also runs down the battery!! a major safety issue. my grandchildren can fall out of my car!!!! please make them repair my our vans for free. $1200-1600 fix per door, otherwise. safety issue!!!!!!!!!! ridiculous i have to even ask for your help. toyota needs to cover their cars.

I took my 2006 sienna in for it's regular maintenance. he told me that the power steering rack is deteriorated to the point of needing a new one soon or i could be in a car accident from loss of power steering. unfortunately we do not have the money to replace it right now, so we are left short a car. if this has been a problem for toyota siennas, i'm not sure why it hasn't been taken care of.

My dashboard has melted. it has left exposed styrofoam on the dash. i had to buy a vinyl sealer to keep the styrofoam from spreading all over the interior of the car. toyota recently sent me a notification of an extended warranty to replace the defective dashboard, after i qualified for a dashboard via my local toyota dealer i was informed that the dashboards were on back order and that they have been waiting on these for over a year. in the mean time , i can not sell or trade this vehicle in its current condition and i don't know if exposure to defective dashboard is affecting my health or not.. toyota do what you say you will do and replace my defective dashboard

Sliding door on the passenger side stop operating suddenly as i was ready to slowly throttle. the power sliding door won't operate and the door won't lock with my kids in it. i stopped the vehicle and investigated the door and found the power sliding is not closing on pressing the power switch. power sliding doors should be defect free for lifetime warranty and could risk kids, adults sitting in the back

Upon trying to open the passenger side rear automatic sliding door - plastic pieces shot out at people standing nearby hitting them in the face and upper body, and the end of a wire/cable flung out nearly hitting someone in the eye. the door continued to make loud clicking and crunching noises and would not open more that an inch or so. it had to be forcefully shut in order to drive the vehicle. similar things happened again when it was brought to the dealer to determine what the problem was. the dealer said the cause was the automatic door mechanisms. the velocity at which the plastic pieces and cable flung out could seriously injure someone. this issue should be required to be recalled and repaired free of charge since it could cause serious eye injury from defective parts.

I was driving my toyota sienna 2006 today morning and the driver in front of me abruptly stopped. i was maintaining a safe distance and immediately hit my brakes. although the brakes seemed to engage, the car accelerated and very badly rear-ended the car in front me. has this happened to anyone before with the car auto-accelerating on it's own? *tr

Just voicing my complaint about how much time it is taking toyota to correct their spare tire assembly recall: report receipt date: may 22, 2014 nhtsa campaign number: 14v273000 component(s): tires i find it hard to believe that it would take more than a year to find a solution. additionally, the temporary solution, relocating the spare to the passenger compartment, significantly lessens the minivan's functionality.

The dashboard has melted and cracked leaving exposed styrofoam and stickiness. i had to buy a dashboard carpet protector to keep it from deteriorating further. toyota sent me a notification of an extended warranty to replace the defective dashboard, after i qualified for a dashboard via my local toyota dealer i was informed that the dashboards were on back order and that they have been waiting on these for over a year. i can not sell or trade this vehicle in its current condition.

I don't have record of the exact date. i took my toyota 2006 sienna for a regular service at sauve's auto repair and service in two rivers, wi. i was advised that my spare tire carrier was rusted so bad that the had to remove my spare tire and keep it in the trunk or they would not allow me to drive my vehicle, because it was not safe! they were amazed that it had not fallen off yet it was so bad. it could have been a hazard if it had fallen off while i was driving because it could have done harm to another vehicle or person. they repaired it. i was not aware of the recall until after i had it fixed. i notified toyota about the incident and asked for a refund on the services. they would not give me my refund because i did not have the original receipt and invoice. as far as i am aware they still do not have an authorized part to replace it yet! toyota case # 1507170610.

The tailgate struts are worn down very easily by the design of the tailgate, with the result that the door slams shut on its own - and it is very heavy. toyota extended the warranty on the struts to 6 years, but the struts still wear out after a short time because of the tailgate design. toyota appears to be aware of this because of the warranty extension, but refuses to address the design problem. it is a serious flaw as the heavy tailgate can slam down on the necks and heads of both adults and children loading the trunk. a review of toyota and car forum boards illustrate how widespread and dangerous the problem can be.

Cracked/melting dashboards. received letter from toyota for free repair few months ago, but still waiting for another letter and do not receive any update from manufacturer yet.

The power sliding door on the driver's side would not close; its cables held the door in the open position. i was unable to make the door operate manually with the frayed and jammed cables. the car could not be operated safely without the door properly closed. *tr

Air bag light on instrument panel flashes on and off; took it to the dealer, which determined was a defective air bag sensor, which needs to be replaced along with the air bag and airbag harness under the driver's seat. total estimate for the pair including labor: $3000. *tr

Both of my manual sliding doors on this vehicle will not open from either the inside or outside. i went to toyota of on 9/10/11 with the passenger side not opening-this has been an ongoing problem for years. they denied being able to fix it on a goodwill policy despite the chronic problems. by the time i returned home from the dealership, the driver's side sliding door no longer opens. now i have to transport 6 children in my van and both sliding doors won't open. they have to enter/exit from the front seat/rear hatch-major safety issue. the dealership wants $650 per door to fix the problem-$ i don't have. i am furious and frustrated-will never buy toyota again-we didn't opt for the electric door so that we would avoid door problems-now what? *tt

The motor on the sliding power door failed. i called toyota and was told i would have to pay to repair it. i have an extended warranty on my car but it is not a covered component. *tt

Power sliding door fails to close - manual override would not work. wife and 4 children trapped in the dark and cold winter weather with an open door - not safe to move the vehicle. father came to rescue and after repeated forceful attempts, the door closed. there are numerous recalls on this vehicle for missing labels - how about a recall on something really serious. the door is completely unreliable - cost to fix $1500+. this not an isolated incident. http://www.carcomplaints.com/toyota/sienna/2006/accessories-exterior/power_sliding_door_wont_close.shtml http://www.carcomplaints.com/toyota/sienna/2006/accessories-exterior/sliding_doors_don't_open.shtml

I have a toyota sienna with 69,451 miles. i have had both rear sliding doors repaired twice each. the doors still do not engage and lock. i have two children and multiple times the doors have opened while driving. toyota recently has a recall on this issue, but it only dates back to 2011. this is an issue for many earlier models and i am furious it was not included. toyota says there is nothing else they can do for me. when one of my children falls out the back and gets injured is not the time to address it. i demand that the 2006 model be included in the recall for safety issues, not just for me and my children, but for many, many others who have complained about the same issue. please address this problem before someone gets hurt or worse. thank you for your prompt attention. the date the incident occurred below is from when i first began having a problem. *tr

Our insured was pulling into parking space when vehicle suddenly accellerated striking a walgreens drug store. our insured driver was treated and release at a local hospital. the vehicle was deemed a total loss and is currently being held for further inspection and download of the data recorder.

I have a 2006 toyota sienna, while driving i have noticed on numerous (5 or 6) that the car will surge forward without pressure on the gas. i am not on cruise control when this happen, it has happened on the freeway and when i am coming out of a turn. i am very concerned. i have also had battery problems with the vehicle. the car battery would die after a door was left open for 5 minutes. after numerous visits to the service center without being able to repeat the situation, and numerous bills since it was never a "problem" they finally were able to repeat it and fix the battery. now this accelerator issue is much more scary for me. i have 3 children that i drive every day in the vehicle and i need to feel safe. the incident date i used below was the most recent however i first noticed this 2 years ago. *tr

Dt*: the contact stated while parked and activating the ignition switch, an arching came off and burned the ear piece of a cell phone traumatizing the contact's ear. no warning signal was present during the numerous incidents. the spark could be heard and seen every time there was an occurrence. the vehicle was taken to the dealership who checked all electrical grounding but no defects were found. the manufacturer was notified. updated 10/11/06. *jb
