Recently reported AIR BAGS problems on 2007 Toyota RAV4

While getting my emergency brake repaired because it did not appear to be holding properly at firestone the technician pulled the emergency brake lever and the drivers side air bag deployed. after taking suv to toyota dealership they stated that the individual pulled the handle up to far causing a short in the air bag module deploying the air bag while individual was in the drivers seat. i consider this to be a defect in the manufacturing process but toyota claims they have no recalls for this problem and want me to pay $2,780.00 for the repair. the vbehicle was stationary when this occurred.

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 toyota rav4. while the vehicle was stationary, the air bag indicator illuminated and the horn did not work. an independent mechanic diagnosed that the air bag clockspring was faulty and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the dealer and manufacturer were not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was unknown.

My vehicle has the passenger air bag off and do not detect when the passenger is sit and buckled up the passenger weight it's over 100 pounds, i took my vehicle to a independent repair shop for a code to be read and the only code it shows it's b1550 (occupant classification system ) the vehicle has never been involved into an accident. i took it to the toyota dealer located at 4413 mchenry avenue in modesto, ca the dealer receptionist said that they can't take of it, because there's no recall in record about this issue, but it is a manufacture defect that affects the safety of vehicle owner

Vehicle was being operated at low speed (15-20 mph) on residential street approaching a stop sign. under braking, driver's and passenger's side curtain airbags deployed and driver's seat belt tensioner fired.

I had a front end crash when driving 60-65 mph on i-94 on feb 4 2016, skidded on ice near alexandria mn, and collided near fence. the airbag did not deploy. no injuries. state patrol report filed-case #716900207. country insurance claim-205-006-8259. it was declared a total loss. toyota is not giving me a proper response, just gave their case #:case #1602060045.

Takata recall. the driver's side ammonium nitrate inflator is now suspect according to toyota. a replacement part will not be in the pipeline for quite a while at best. toyota refuses to remove the explosive because it's a "safety item." it defies common sense. i want it disabled until they can fix it. what kind of moron would drive around with a loaded gun aimed at this head? are you guys listening?

Left front input seal has leaked fluid twice now. first time was 9/25/2012 @ 56,516 miles. second time was on 1/12/2016 @ 101,753 miles. my independent auto repair service, coram precision auto of coram, ny went to toyota to get the seal needed to fix the leak both times and asked toyota parts counter if they knew of a recall and they said no. then they asked why they had so many seals in stock if there had been no recalls. i am on this website and don't see any recalls either but i wonder if any complaints have been filed. note: i have several recalls for my toyota rav4 for gas pedal and now for the 'rear differential coupling' which extends my warrantee until 2017 from toyota and from nhtsa for my drivers side air bag in 2014 but can't find anything on this wed site. please follow up with me on the seal problem and if the airbag needs to be replaced. toyota told me 'no" but i don't trust them. thanks, wpziems 02/01/2016.

Occupant classification system malfunction (ecu). toyota is refusing to cover the repair since the vehicle is no longer under warranty. was advised at the dealership (kendall toyota) that this malfunction will prevent the passenger airbag from deployment in event of an accident. the system malfunction is not specifically a wear n tear item and i firmly believe it should be covered by toyota. rav 4 has had multiple recalls but none for this problem. *tr

My complaint is in regards to the toyota air bag recall notice sent out several months ago. i have been in contact with toyota several times in regards to this and they still have no suitable fix for this problem. i am driving around in a car with no functional airbag, which i can not sell due to the sir bag light being illuminated. they have offered nothing to me in any way to resolve this problem in the mean time i am driving around 800-1500 miles per week in a death trap with no air bag. i have no financial means to rent or borrow a car until this is resolved. i have even offered them to buy my car at a loss so i can find other means of transportation. each person i talk to at the customer service center offers me different advise and tells me a different story as to when the parts will be available and what i can do to fix it. i even went as far as to drive 2 hours to a toyota dealer that they arranged for me to fix it only for it not to be done when i picked the vehicle up from service. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 toyota rav-4. the contact received recall notice for nhtsa campaign number 14v168000 (air bags). the contact stated that the letter was received over two months ago. the dealer was contacted; however, they were unable to perform the recall repair since the parts were not available. there are no failures at this time. the current mileage was 55,000.

Any time i turn the steering wheel the air bag light used to come on and it would go on and off until recently it stays on it similar to the symptoms that is described in one of the recalls for toyota nhtsa campaign number: 14v168000 i took to the dealership twice but this issue for some reason they only document one of the times and their service was not good i called toyota and asked them if i am part of this nhtsa campaign number: 14v168000 recall and they said no and they were not willing to help me i am hopping that you guys could look into this issue for me pls

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 toyota rav4. while driving 30 mph, the air bag warning light illuminated. the dealer stated that the spiral cable assembly needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number:14v168000 (air bags); however, the part to do the repair was unavailable. the contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 16,000.

When driving with air bags light on is completely unsafe and danger to everyone including driver. toyota send out interim recall letters to owners of certain models and years including rav4 2006 to rav4 and asked to contact local toyota dealer immediately in case of if air bag light illuminate or illuminated already. meanwhile toyota is making arrangement for remedy part ( d squib clock spiral cable ) for those qualified models to fix the airbag light. after i received a same interim notice, the air bag light came on. i called toyota co-operate office about the my recall notice i received by mail and told that suddenly my air bag light came on . toyota ask me to take my car to the local toyota dealer for diagnose which i did and their diagnose result came up with b1801 error ( d squib clock spring spiral cable faulty) which they updated to toyota database and told me to wait till remedy is available for this fix. i called toyota co operate office again and they told me to wait till the part is available. it has been now 7 months and i haven't received any further notice nor any remedy yet. i called toyota few times and finally they give me a wearied answer that my car is not on defective batch anymore and does not qualify for this airbag recall. my car vin #, year, model everything showing clearly based on interim recall letter that is in that defective recall qualification group but some how toyota is now playing game and telling me different story. they don't have any answer of who i do have the same faulty spiral cable defect like same exact others defective batch has. toyota is the one who send out interim notices to those qualified recall batch based on their vin# and now after 8 months, they are denied that my car doesn't qualify for this recall fix?.?? i like to have this investigate by nhtsa's before some one life gets at risk. *tr

Driving down community street. airbag light came on. has stayed on continuously. car has never been in any kind of accident. toyota says my vehicle is not affected by their recall and will not cover any repairs. *tr

Air bag fault indicator light came on and is illuminated whenever the ignition is on. vehicle was taken to dealer per owners manual and dealer informed us there is a toyota recall about to be issued but no parts are available for a repair. we received a notice from toyota that the recall notice is in process but parts and repair lead time is unknown. calls to the local dealer and to toyota regional office had each telling me to call the other due to a lack lead time information for the repair parts availability. we are still waiting and probably operating an unsafe vehicle.. *tr

Took vehicle in for diagnostics as several lights were on. was called by service advisor that the d squib circuit/spiral cable is faulty and therefore the air bag system is not operational. this is a huge safety issue as i was unaware of my airbags not functioning. thank god, we did not get into an accident! the toyota dealer whom we purchased our 2007 rav 4 from brand new of course wants to repair it for approx. $500.00. that is insane as this issue should never occur. after reading many postings on the internet, obviously this is a known issue and clearly there should be a recall to fix this. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 toyota rav4. the air bag sensor illuminated. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer who diagnosed that the spiral cable needed to be replaced. the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign id number: 14v168000 (air bags) and stated that the parts were not available and the remedy was not available. the manufacturer was also contacted. the approximate failure mileage was 62,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 toyota rav4. the contact stated that the air bag warning lamp illuminated. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 87,000 and the current mileage was 88,000.

Airbag light came on 12/10/2013. called dealer to make appointment. dealer hooked up scan tool ($65.00 for diagnosis) b1801 open in d squib. diagnosed open in spiral cable. i declined repair since i did not have $ 511.00 to spare. i know that toyota recalled certain 2007 rav4 units, but service tech said mine was not among them. *js

I rear-ended another car, sustaining damage to both cars. my airbag failed even though i was going about 40 mph--did not deploy. my chest hit the steering wheel even though i was wearing my seat belt. although, at first i did not realize the extent of my injuries, i received several fractures as revealed by mri and other scans as follows: 1. sternum fracture 2. rib fracture 3. spine compression fractures over time, condition has deteriorated to immobilization. just recently looked up details of speed at which airbag should engage (after hearing about recalls) and now realize airbag should have gone off at much lower speed.

Air bag light went on and after srs diagnosis test found clock spring bad. estimated repair $522.50. *tr

After starting the car the air bag light did not off. it has continued to stay on when the car is running since oct. 19 2013. we have tried trouble shooting the problem with no success. when having recall repairs done at lewis toyota in dodge city, ks on 3/21/14 the repair manager was asked about the problem and gave no indication that toyota was aware of the issue or that a recall was being issued. toyota has stated they will send letters informing owners by late april. it is mid may and we have still received nothing. *tr

Hit a car in front of me and wreck the front right corner of the rav4 and no air bags went off. and my ins company total the rav4 and don't know what happen to the other car. *tr

Upon starting the vehicle i noticed that on the instrument panel the airbag light was illuminated. this indicated that there was a problem with the safety system which allows the airbag to inflate during a frontal or side impact crash. i scheduled an appointment with the local toyota dealership for further investigation. on the day of the appointment i was informed that there was a malfunction in the spiral clock cable which resides under the steering wheel and is an intricate part of the safety, driver side and other airbags within the vehicle. if this part was not replaced then i could be fatally hurt or killed if the airbag would not deploy. i was also informed that toyota had done a recall on this exact part but only on the toyota tacoma, this effected over 700,000 vehicles recalled for this same problem. i contacted toyota immediately after having the repairs done to my vehicle. i received a message back from them stating that they would reimburse me for the part plus the tax but not for the labor charges, they claim that the labor charges would not be reimbursed due to the number of miles on my vehicle, but if they had included the rav4s in the recall the labor charges would have been included. i have had more than 4 recalls on my vehicle done in just the past couple of months. although i am grateful that i am receiving the reimbursement for the part and tax i think that the labor should be included, due to the fact that the part was a major recall on other models. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 toyota rav-4. the contact stated that while driving 45 mph, the air bag warning lamp illuminated. the vehicle was taken to the dealer. the technician diagnosed that the spiral cable was defective and needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the vin was not available. the failure mileage was 97,000 and the current mileage was 97,500.

2007 toyota rav 4. consumer writes in regards to vehicle curtain shield air bag sensor recall notice. *smd the consumer received a recall notice. however, according to her local dealer, they were unaware of any recall, and therefore, they charged her for the inspection. according to the invoice, the spiral cable needed to be replaced.

The air bag warning light indicated a problem. i took it to a toyota service center and they indicated that it coded b1801, a message to replace a spiral cable. since this condition causes the airbags to be inoperable, i had them repair the problem cable. when i look online, this seems to be a widespread issue with other owners and is certainly a safety issue. *tr

On july 25th i brought my car to the mechanic because the air bag light was on since last friday. the mechanic told me there was a code on the air bag light was b1801. this is a common problem amongst rav4's. i think this should be a recall on this because it is so common amongst rav4s. i know it will cost me approximately $600 to fix this. please inform me if there looks like there will be a recall on this. my email is [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

Spiral cable failure in steering column causing airbag malfunction indicator light. (code b1801 - open in d squib circuit) toyota is charging to repair when clearly they are having problems in many rav4's with this issue. this should be a safety recall. $500+ for repair. *tr

While driving on the interstate at approximately 70 mph, the airbag lamp illuminated on the console. the vehicle was taken to the local dealership who determined that the cause of the airbag lamp was a defective clock spring in the steering column. we were informed that the driver's side airbag would fail to deploy in a collision. toyota quoted ~$600 to replace the clock spring. this is a critical safety issue caused by a defect in materials / workmanship and should be recalled. internet research discovered several complaints identical to this issue. toyota has recalled the tundra for this issue. *tr

The srs airbag light came on. overseas toyota dealer technician troubleshoot and identified a bad spiral cable assembly. since i am stationed overseas i have to order parts online and wait for arrival. contacted toyota and received e-mail stating the recent recall for airbags did not apply to my vin. of course they also told me they do not recommend shipping u.s. made toyotas to overseas locations because toyota dealers overseas cannot submit warranty work for u.s. made toyotas. i guess they are in essence stating they do not support the military and dod civilians who get transferred overseas because they will not help to repair their car, even if it is under warranty. though my car only has 35k and the warranty expired, i wanted to see if the recall affected my vehicle, especially while researching online i saw many rav4s with the same problem. did not get an answer from toyota whether the vehicle was safe to drive in this condition. *tr

My vehicle's airbag sensor light went on. right about the same time, there was a recall from toyota stating that there could be an issue with airbag sensor light turning on. when i checked with toyota dealer, they said the recall was for something else related to airbag sensor and there is another issue with car's clock spring and it has to be replaced. also, i was warned that airbags won't work in case of an accident. how could an internal part stop working all of a sudden which does not have any user interaction. and if it happened so due a manufacturing defect, toyota should be prompt to offer a recall for such a safety intensive part. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 toyota rav4. the contact stated that the air bag warning lamp illuminated. the vehicle was taken to the dealer., who diagnosed that the spiral cable was defective. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the vin was not available. the failure and current mileage was 75,000.*tr

I took my rav4 to the dealer because the air bag light came on and i was told that the car need a new spiral cable and warranty does not cover that part that i must to pay around 500 dollars to get it fix. now my question is if it's a malfunction why do i have to pay to get it fixed. *tr

Airbag error light came on. passenger airbag remains off even with a passenger. passenger seatbelt light flashes even when passenger is fully belted. issue came on all of a sudden one day even though car has been rarely used in the last year. issue apparently very common according to other owners online. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 toyota rav4. the contact stated that the vehicle was repaired under nhtsa campaign number: 11v245000 (air bag) but the repair did not correct the failure. the air bag light illuminated due to a failure with the air bag spiral cable. the dealer advised that the air bag warning light illumination was not caused by recall repair. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure and current mileage was 70,652.

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 toyota rav4. the contact stated that the vehicle was taken to the dealer for service under nhtsa campaign id number:11v245000 (air bags), but the contact was told by the dealer that the air bags still would not work unless the spiral cable assembly in the steering wheel was replaced, at the contact's expense. the dealer was contacted and advised that the issue should have been included in the recall. the contact had not experienced a failure. the current mileage was 83,000. *tr

Air bag warning light illuminated, i took the car to the dealer and was told that the spiral cable has failed and will need to be replaced. they also explained to me that this vehicle will not pass yearly mandated nh state vehicle inspection due to this condition as all of the airbags are inoperable. i have scheduled this to be repaired but the cost is estimated to be $440.00. until this condition can be repaired i have parked this vehicle as i do not want my family exposed to this potentially dangerous condition. toyota should stand behind this failure as i see from other resources that this is a fairly common failure for the rav-4. *tr

Failure # 1 one of the steel rims on my rav 4 developed a crack causing a sudden loss of pressure. i had the rim replaced with a new one. since then i have had to replace 2 additional rims with the same (broken weld) symptoms, one with a break over 21" long. toyota has failed to address this issue of unintended consequences. failure # 2 the air bag sensing light came on in my rav 4 so i had it checked out at my local dealer. i was told not to worry about it. i'm an emt and i have a tendency to worry about "life safety" issues. i took it to another dealer and was told that there might be unintended consequences and that i should have it fixed. it turned out the "spiral cable" in the steering column was faulty and needed to be replaced. it's important to know that an air bag works when it should and doesn't work when it should not. i wasn't aware that things as critical as these have a shelf life.

A r e call now on the clock spring stop acting stupid's. *tr

My airbag light was on. when i took my car in for the annual state inspection, i was informed that i would have to replace the spiral cable for airbag light that had shorted out. the assembly was replaced at a total cost of $442.01. this vehicle has had an earlier recall for an airbag sensor and i feel that this should be a safety recall issue as well and not the financial responsibility of the car owner. *tr
