My car has been consuming lots of oil however i was never able to identify where the leak was coming from. i contacted toyota certified repair service when i went to get oil changed they indicated they did not identify any leaks and the vehicle was operating correctly although i returned to toyota certified repair service within approximately 3 weeks service advisor acknowledged that leak should have been diagnosed closer. service advisor viewed oil everywhere underneath hood and it again required 2.5 quarts on oil in this short time frame. i was advised to drive another 1k miles and bring back to determine where leak was located and they would assist with repair costs however i brought back within 584 miles and vehicle again had consumed enormous amount of oil yet now advisor and service manager insisted they could not help with anything. only after being visually upset about the most recent developments did the service advisor libra jones mention anything abount the warranty enhancement ze7 but also stated my warranty had expired and i was left to fend for myself. libra jones told me to contact toyota to see if they would help and briefly mention the goodwill assistance program. however after speaking to millie@ toyota, she had no intentions of assisting with any repair costs and even asked to speak to a manager in regards to my issue and she stated she would have a manager contact withing 24 hours however no one bothered to ever reach out to me whatever which forced me to contact many of the top executives to address my concerns. based on the executive assitance eboney blanks reactions, toyotal never intended to offer any assistance as it relates to their products. they indicated they mailed out documents to my grandparents however records would reflect if there were any repairs that required attention my grandparents would have done prior to selling to me
2.4 engine burns excessive oil. apparently, other toyota models with the same 2.4 engine have had free repairs. i believe toyota should repair the 2.4 engine in my 2006 rav4 to stop the excessive oil burning. it now burns one quart for every 500-600 miles.
Oil light came on seconds before check engine light. car would not accelerate and i had to pull off road. engine required four (4) quarts of oil. no warning of low oil!! i was driving on an interstate highway at this time!
Tamara recall engine failure almost caused a major accident. dealership tells me the it's an recall but, it has now expired. i don't understand how a safety recall can expire. i need help from an attorney on this matter. because this isn't right. can you recommend an attorney? they said they could only do new rings and new pistons back then but now toyota will not even do that. so now i just have a 5,000 bill for a new engine.
Losing oil engine making noise no power
Ever since my vehicle hit 100,000 miles, it has been burning oil excessively at the rate of about 2-3 quarts every 800-1000 miles. the vehicle currently has approx. 116,000 miles on it. prior to reaching 100,000 miles, it was tested by toyota via a service "bulletin", not a "recall" for this issue, and passed. but, after reaching 100,000 miles it was tested again, and failed. unfortunately, the vehicle is no longer under any type of warranty coverage, making repairs financially impossible
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 toyota rav4. the contact stated that the vehicle was using an excessive amount of oil. additionally, a quart of oil was added to the vehicle weekly and the oil indicator illuminated. the vehicle was taken to the local dealer (toyota of york, 1885 whiteford road, york, pa 17402, (717) 755-2961), but was not diagnosed because the contact declined to pay the fee. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was contacted and did not assist. the failure mileage was 142,000.
Twice in the last 24 hours there has been sudden acceleration when braking for a stop.
I bought a 2006 rav4 limited from toyota of elizabeth city in nc. this rav4 is nice and runs well, however it consumes about 1 quart of oil every 1000 miles. i spoke with the previous owner, whom informed me that he expressed the issue to the dealership where he traded this vehicle in at. the dealer failed to let us know about this extensive tsb relating to the excessive oil consumption. it is not nice to sell a vehicle with a well known active tsb. it is further unacceptable for toyota to not have a all out recall on this issue. will be calling toyota customer service.
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 toyota rav4. while driving at unknown speeds, the vehicle burned an excessive amount of oil. the local dealer was not contacted. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified and opened case number: 1801053296. no further assistance was provided. the failure mileage was 140,000.
It was recalled for motor oil consumption. but was not able to take it forbpersonal reasons. recall expired it can not be fixed. now car is consuming alot of oil. don't know what to do.
Noticed at about 98,000 miles the vehicle was using more oil than expected. i now find after a dealer test that the vehicle is consuming oil at the rate of 2 quarts per 1200 miles. i feel that this is excessive and in spite of the fact that it is past the warranty period which was mostly kept quiet by toyota i feel they should be responsible for all the repairs for a longer period of time to allow all the ones including myself an opportunity to get the repairs. test was done on 12/22/2017.
Purchased vehicle with 159,000 miles. noticed it used an inordinate amount of oil. engine siezed up and failed at 165,000 miles.
2006 toyota rav4 with 51,000 miles: my daughter was driving the vehicle on a major highway going 70 mph (the speed limit) and all of a sudden all the lights came on in the dash and car died, left my daughter stranded on a major highway. had it towed and it was an engine failure. yes, engine failed at 51,000 miles. out of warranty and toyota won't do a thing about it.
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 toyota rav4. while driving, there was excessive oil consumption without warning. an oil consumption test determined that there were two quarts of oil lost within 1,100 miles. the vehicle was taken to jones toyota (1508 belair road, belair, md 21014) where it was diagnosed that the piston rings needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the contact called the manufacturer and was informed that they would not consider the warranty and there was no recall on the vehicle. the failure mileage was 136,900.
Excessive oil consumption. three weeks ago, august 2017, at 100,000 miles i have had to add 1 quart of oil every other week.
The car started knocking, went straight to a shop and it turns out it had no oil in it. was due for an oil change but not to the point it should have been out of oil and had not shown any signs of leaking.
My rav4 has been consuming excessive oil and when i took it to the toyota service station, i am told it needs engine overhaul to include piston and quoted 5258$. when engine oil sign on dashboard has been going on since june 2016, and every 5000 miles the service center tops the oil it got fixed. and intermittently, i had to top the oil. the matter has gone undiagnosed until 6/28/17. when i look back it was a global issues with toyota http://www.toyotaproblems.com/trends/excessive-oil-consumption/ i did not receive any letters from toyota about this issue. toyota saying the warranty extension program expired in october 2016 and they will not provide any assistance and now i am faced with a big bill.
Engine started excessively burning oil at approx 110,000 mile mark. took to dealer. warranty was still valid. engine would be almost dry at 3,000 mile mark. they did a consumption test, said it passed. when i asked how that could be since it shouldn't be dry at 3,000 mile mark. they told me to watch it and come back. when it happened again, way before next oil change was needed, 3,300 miles, bone dry, they said my warranty was expired. internet shows this is a problem with my make, model and year car, they know it, but refuse to recall due to cost. they refuse to fix the engine.
I took my vehicle in for a recall. the technician found it was low on oil and filled it. two weeks later i had my mechanic check and it was low 2 quarts of oil. i set my trip odometer. it has been 2000 miles and i have had to add 4 quarts of oil to my engine. i am told this excessive oil consumption is due to bad pistons that will need to be changed. i understand this to be a costly repair.
I purchased the vehicle used last april. less than 30 days later i realized it was burning excessive oil. i brought it to the used car dealership that i purchased it from he said he would check some spark plugs and it would be fine. few days after he "fixed the problem" i had to add more more oil. i brought it back to him he said that 2006 rav 4 toyota rav 4s are known to burn excessive oil. he said he would provide me with car to trade at no cost. almost one year has gone by and this has not happened. i feel that he should do something about it and give me my money back but i feel that toyota should also be held responsible
My 2006 rav4 has an oil consumption problem. the car was burning 1/2 quart of oil every 300 miles. i am paying $3500 to have the pistons and rings replaced.
Burning oil. i have to put oil all the time. mechanics said car can't fix because the engine is the problem. i can only change the engine because it is a manufacturer problems. the car burn gas as well.
After my engine oil light flickered briefly a few times when driving. i had the oil checked and found it virtually empty, we put a quarter in and took it to the dealership where they filled my oil and taped the oil cap and had me return between 1000 and 1300 miles. today i took it in at 1200 miles and was 2 quarts low. have had all of my oil changes done at 3000 miles at the same dealership the car was purchased. they claim a letter was sent offering a oil consumption test and would have possibly covered repairs if i had an issue during the 10 year period they were offering warranty enhancement. i never saw such a letter. my car never had lowe oil recorded until my one oil change where i was basically empty. i have filed a claim with toyota, but they are saying there is nothing they will do for me. this is a well known issue with many lawsuits and should be a recall. never once did the service people ever mention this issue or offer to do the oil consumption test when my car was under warranty. the engine is probably going to require a new pistons and rings and cost several thousand dollars to fix. i think toyota needs to step up and take responsibility for these faulty engines they put in their toyotas.
It seems there is a problem with the oil consumption in many different toyota vehicle models including mine. i brought my vehicle in for service on this particular problem and they did an oil consumption test, which was not performed as i drove over the required 1200 miles. however, they told me i needed to have the bottom part of the engine rebuilt. not once did they mention the ongoing problem. i told them i had to think about it and was told to check the oil more often than normal. after getting home and doing research online did i find that my engine can seize at any time even with oil in it. also, if i pay for the repairs, this can happen again. i don't have the money for repairs nor another vehicle. there should have been a recall on this problem. i would have never bought my car if i would have known. i don't know what to do. can you advise?
I hear a riddling noise from the engine each time i start the car. click sound when i turn the wheel.
This car has the infamous toyota excessive oil consumption issue with the 2.4 l i4 engine. it burns a qt of oil in 2000 miles or less.
Toyota oil consumption. when changing the oil, the oil pan only drains roughly 2 quarts of oil. i checked online to see if there were any recalls on oil consumption for the make, model, and year of the car and there was. unfortunately, when typing in the vin it did not have a recall for that specific vehicle. but it did matched exactly what the symptoms of that recall was. i called the 1-800 customer help line and they were unhelpful. i was told the recall expired and the previous owner did not take action with the recall. this can be a huge road safety hazard for both the driver and other drivers around the vehicle. the car is consuming oil due to the pistons recall. please help.
Bad acceleration, engine will not pick up fast, if i try to accelerate engine sounds high, the car will not pick up the speed up for few seconds and it jumps in the track. all engine lights came, vehicle lost the power and i lost control over the vehicle,i had to stop in freeway and call tow truck.this car burns oil so fast every 1000 miles i have to put new oil on this car.
The car is burning oil and i was told to bring it in for consumption test when i got there the dealer told me it is no longer under warrant. but i know by doing research that it is.
Oil compsumtion recall has not been honored.
10/26/15 was serviced by germain toyota, naples, fl, oil tank was empty and engine was overheated. the car had been driven 3711 miles since last oil change (there was no leak). i put a quart of oil in so that i could drive it to the dealer. they performed their version of an oil consumption test and claimed it passed the test. 3/11/16 oil tank was empty and car was overheated. it had been driven 2496 miles since the previous oil change. they said it had passed the previous test & all was ok. 10/7/16 oil tank was empty, had been driven but i had purchased 3 qts of oil and added it to the empty tank. prior to me adding the oil, car was extremely overheated and i got burned trying to get the hood up. i could not touch any part of the engine or would have been severely burned. the car now failed a new oil consumption test. they advised they could not fix it because as of 4/3/2016 it was out of the their extended 10-yr warranty for oil consumption problem. they told me it is now my responsibility to continually add oil. if a safety hazard should occur they said it would be my fault and not theirs. in all cases above the engine was on, vehicle in motion on city streets when the indicator light came on or car overheated. there was no oil on the dip stick when checked in every one of the cases.
Good day ' please: appraise unsafety defects. thankful.

While driving east on i-490 from rochester to i-90, the check engine light came on and the engine was misfiring. we exited the freeway and the check engine light started to flash, the engine sputtered and died. i put the car in neutral and parked on the right curb. fortunately this happened on a city street and not on the freeway. power steering was of course lost, so the maneuver was difficult. aaa towed the car to our repair shop, and they reported 24 engine codes were thrown, and recommended a complete engine tune-up, including replacement of the six ignition coil packs, spark plugs, and intake manifold gaskets. much of the $1,000 expense was 4.5 hours of labor, to remove the intake manifold (necessary to reach the rear bank of cylinders 1,3,5). this was not the first time the ignition coils have failed on this vehicle. in october 2012 (around 50k miles) engine code p0354 was thrown, and i replaced the coil on cylinder 4. in january 2014 (around 58k miles) code p0356 was thrown, and i replaced the coil on cylinder 6. since the dangerous incident of lost power and replacement of all six coils on 14 june 2016 (around 80k miles) only nine months and 7k miles later, code p0351 (bad coil on cylinder 1) was thrown on 24 march 2017, and now code p0355 (cylinder 5) was thrown on 28 march 2017. i have already spent around $1,200 to deal with this problem, and the car is today back in the repair shop to have two rear bank coils replaced, for $229. there is clearly something wrong when these coils are failing under normal operating conditions, especially after only 7k miles. this is not just a problem for us. other repair shops have said this era of rav4 is known for this problem. see http://www.carproblemzoo.com/toyota/rav4/ignition-coils-failure-problems.php and you can find other similar records of this problem searching online.
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 toyota rav4. while driving at any speed, the vehicle consumed oil excessively. the vehicle was driven to the dealer and passed the oil consumption test. at 2,500 miles, the vehicle burned almost three quarts of oil. the warranty was extended through to october of 2016. the contact stated that the test was inaccurate. the failure mileage was 112,100.

2006 toyota rav 4. consumer writes in regards to vehicle engine problems. *smd the consumer stated the vehicle failed while being driven. it was towed to the dealer where a hole was discovered in the engine. the consumer requested to be advised on how a hole could form in the engine. the consumer had the engine replaced. *js
Engine made knocking noise while on the freeway, and then the car died - everything quit. had to coast off the nearest exit. there was no warning - no maintenance required lights were lit on the dash. still had another almost 2,000 miles to go before next oil change was due. engine is dead. per toyota "catastrophic internal damage from the rods." car was well taken care of, never missed an oil change, and 8 of the last 9 years, the car was loyally serviced at a toyota dealership.
This complaint is due to a recall: warranty enhancement notification ze7 concerning excessive oil consumption. a toyota dealership tested my car on 8/27/15 and it failed. i was advised to keep checking & adding oil as needed and i would be notified when the parts arrived to correct this. when i called today, 2/2/16, they still haven't received parts for rav4, i am very upset that it's taking so many months and i'm responsible for this problem in the meantime. i feel as if i'm driving a time bomb and it's very bothersome to keep checking the level.
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 toyota rav4. the contact stated that the vehicle consumed a quart of oil every 50 miles. the vehicle was taken to kerry toyota (6050 hopeful church rd, florence, ky 41042, 859-371-3939) where it was diagnosed that the vehicle had excessive oil consumption. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 200,000.
The 2006 rav4 model toyota has a record of stuck or clogged oil rings causing excessive oil consumption which can lead to failure of engine and catalytic converter. this defect causes oil to burn at a rate of approximately 1 quart or more every 1,000 miles. my rav4 was brought to the dealership on 7/16/2015 to perform the first phase of an oil inspection & consumption test. on 8/4/2015 the vehicle was brought back to the dealership for re-inspection. it failed the consumption test & i was told that as soon as parts became available i'd be contacted; however, there were several customers ahead of me awaiting the same repair. two months have passed & i have yet to hear back from the dealership as to when the repair can happen. i called the service manager 10/2/2015. the service manager told me he would look into the matter & return my call in 15 minutes. he never called back. toyota has only issued a tsb about this issue to dealers/mechanics, thus owners may not be aware that oil is being burned off as the excess smoke is absorbed by the catalytic converter, which causes causes premature failure of that par as well. this needs to be a recall item. if a car doing 70mph has an engine failure due to loss of oil then the person will loose steering and brake control leading to a serious accident or death. this is a mechanical issue as well as a safety issue.
Excessive oil consumption my car's engine is burning excessive amounts of oil. while i've had the problem for years, it is getting significantly worse and i have been adding oil multiple times between my scheduled services. since i am aware of the issue i've been diligent about checking my levels, but i found out it was an issue when my car turned off while i was driving (i was lucky to have been in a parking lot at the time).
Computer problems causing all the lights to come on the dashboard and disabling the shifting solenoid. it also disables the safety braking and four wheel drive. this causes the vehicle to be unsafe.
Vehicle burns over one quart of oil every 1,000 miles or less. this was first observed in 2015 after the vehicle had about 120,000 miles. throughout it's life the vehicle has received regularly schedule maintenance. this problem can create an unsafe condition and potentially sudden engine failure if not regularly checked.
