Tl* the contact owns a 2006 toyota prius. the contact stated that while the vehicle was parked, the rear window shattered without warning. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer. the manufacturer was contacted. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 54,000 and the current mileage was 54,500.
When closing the rear hatch on my 2006 toyota prius, the inside rear view mirror came crashing down, taking a chunk of the windshield with it. my car now is missing a piece of windshield and the mirror. contacted toyota--they said since the car had too many miles on it and was off warranty, they wouldn't fix it, although they agreed it shouldn't have happened. to me, it seems to be a manufacturing/materials defect that toyota is not willing to admit. the mileage is irrelevant for this type of defect--it can happen at any time. *tr
My 2006 toyota prius has a problem with headlights going out intermittently. toyota says they replaced lights after we insisted there was a problem. they noted problem was caused by a short that they say nothing about fixing. it took 2 visits to get problem resolved due to intermittent nature. i think this is a defect and dangerous. they need to address this problem. there are numerous postings on web of this and all indications are that lights and control modules have problems. i am writing to national center for dispute settlement, but think odi needs to step in. thanks. *tr
Hid lights turn off independent of vibration, heat, duration of time on. occasionally both turn off at the same time. turning brights has no affect. turning lights off and then back on fixes the problem. dealership has replaced entire headlight assembly, computer, and bulbs and then began to re-occur after 10,000 miles. *tr
Temperature-stress cracks in windshield of 2006 prius. seems to be brought on by heat snap. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2006 toyota prius. the automatic window up control rolled up the driver side window and would not stop until the window was completely up. the window would continue to close even if there was an object in its path. this failure has occurred numerous times. the contact has not spoken with toyota. the vin and engine size were unknown. the current and failure mileages were 49,922.
Intermittent problem with hid head lights. both right and left head lights have gone out individually (not at the same time) during operation of the vehicle, and then by turning light switch off and then on again the head lights work. on a different trip, either head light may stop working again. this doesn't happen on every trip, and it seems to happen during operation of the headlights (i.e., turn the lights "on" and both head lights work, and then after some period of time one of the head lights stops working). this has happened multiple times during the last month. *tr
I have purchased a 2006 toyota prius and believe it has a serious window design problem. other automobiles and trucks i have owned with electric windows have had an automatic down feature on the drivers window. ie- once driver started window down he could release pressure on switch and the window would continue its down travel to the bottom. on my new toyota the drivers window will also continue going up to the full up position after switch is released. i brought this up to the toyota service dept thinking the switch was defective. i was told it was designed this way so the driver could get his hands back on the steering wheel rapidly. they said it probably had a stop if something got stuck in the window - like a baby's head. i have tried to hold my window down after releasing the switch and i cannot stop its upward travel. the only way to stop the window is to find the switch again and depress the switch to the lower window position. i feel the window has the potential to kill or maim anyone that gets caught by the window. i feel this is an urgent threat. thank you. *nm
On our 2006 toyota prius, purchased june 27, 2006, night-time driving vision is impaired by the reflection of the dashboard onto the windshield. the image of the dashboard information lights is strongly reflected right into the center of the driver's vision necessitating looking under, over, or around the reflections. poooooor dashboard design. very disappointing and scary.
