I only have 44,000 miles on my 2005 toyota corolla and the air compressor went out. i have read that this problem has occurred in numerous corollas from the same year. i believe this needs to be looked into and recalled or i will sell my car and never buy a toyota again. i will also post on social media about toyota's negligence and mistreatment of customers. i have a 2 year old daughter that needs air conditioning, so i am very upset over this issue. it is not just an "inconvienence" as it was called by toyota's "customer service". please sort this issue. *tr

While driving on pr highway, within 10 mts, the car's engine stopped having enough time to park the car on the emergency side road. when i saw smoke coming out the hood, i grabbed by belongings and walked away from the car. while i'm calling my husband i saw the car in flames. on dec. 28, 2015 i submitted an investigation with toyota of pr in relation to the fire on my car on dec 24, 2015. until this date i haven't received any response regarding their case # [xxx]. when i call customer service critical cases coordinator, her only response is that i will receive a written notice from head office. i've being 2 month without a car to get to work and i feel frustrated in the manner toyota has treated my situation even when i authorized them to pick up and examine the car after the incident. by the way i still have the burned car in front of my house in case they need additional data. i will appreciate if you could guide me as to my rights or options being that the car was in excellent conditions and i expected some kind of reward or voucher from toyota to at least help me obtain another car from them. sincerely [xxx] , [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).' *tr

While commuting one summer morning, my vehicles a/c went from blowing cold to hot air instantaneous. i then went without a/c for a period of two weeks, luckily i was on tdy and did not have my young children. i took the vehicle to the dealership and they said a rock punctured the a/c condenser. toyota has issued a technical service bulletin(ac002-06), indicating that the a/c condenser is not properly protected. *tr

My air conditioner stopped working. i read up on this matter and found out that condenser is a problem with the 2005-2006 corolla and they suggested filing a complaint with this website so that you would be aware that there is a problem. thanks! *tr

2005 toyota corolla. consumer writes in regards to registration and emission results *tgw the consumer stated he was unable to register his vehicle, because the dmv requested a smog emissions compliance letter stating the vehicle complied with or net us federal safety and california emissions standards. the consumer stated the vehicle was manufactured in canada.

.......toyota has issued a technical service bulletin indicating that the a/c condenser is not properly protected the number for this report is ac002-06. however, toyota has redesigned the corolla to corrected it in 2007 but did not do anything for the 2005 and 2006 year models. living in the southern united states where summer temperatures reach 120 degrees this a health hazard due to extreme heat. *tr

Ac stopped working in peak summer heat. after researching, realized that this is a common problem in toyotas made before 2006. toyota has a technical service bulletin ac002-06 which implies that the a/c condenser is not protected. the cost to replace is $600 and will go out around 50k. if you look at the a/c condenser on these cars vs. 2007-2009 toyota has added a plastic cover to cover the hole left in 2005-2006. this is a safety issue for the warm states in the south. *tr

It was windy on january 24, 2011 i was on a highway headed to great falls, montana when right outside of havre, montana a semi-truck driver hauling a load drove by me and a rock hit my car. i pulled over in havre, no rock chips on my windshield of the body. i opened the hood and on my a/c condenser was a dent. i thought it would be okay. but, since then my car leaks fluid in the front where the condenser is. there is nothing protecting the condenser from any rocks, etc. i have not driven the car. my brother is a mechanic and said it should be looked at by toyota. i read about the tsb ac002-06. and am demanding toyota fix the condenser and fix the gap so my car will be protected from this happening again. also, i took my toyota for the last recall to havre, mt i do not want to go there anymore. i had a 12:30 p.m. appointment instead they took a woman who walked in after us in first. i was upset she didn't have to wait and we drove 3 hours to get there. thank you.. *tr

On 11/9/2010 at 5:30 p.m., my 2005 toyota corolla ce stalled on i-87 (ny state thruway--major deegan) in the bronx as it was being driven at 55 miles per hour. the car was operating normally when i left work in the bronx 20 min before. all of a sudden the check engine light came on and the car lost all power. the oil and battery lights also came on. i put on my hazards and managed to get from left lane to shoulder. the car stopped completely before i could get it off the highway and the back end of car was slightly on the road. i called aaa and they called the official company who has to tow cars off the thruway. no truck arrived for a long time--two passers by stopped and helped me push car onto shoulder. the car lights dimmed and eventually went out. the car had plenty of fuel when it was being driven. after the car stopped, the car seemed electrically dead and would not turn over at all. there was no sound at all or any cranking or sputtering. it seemed that the car lost all power and i was only able to get it off the road due to its momentum from being in motion. when no truck arrived after 45 minutes, i called 311 for assistance (nyc help line) and they contacted police who came and called another truck and sat with me with their lights on until tow truck arrived around 6:50 pm. it was towed to official towing station in bronx. the repair people told me the next day it might be due to an electrical problem. my car is under recall for the engine control module (ecm). the toyota dealers in bronx said cars don't stall because of this problem and i would have to pay to have my car towed there to have it checked. i wanted them to look at it to see if ecm was the problem. on 11/11, when i called the official towing station to have car towed out, they said it was fuel pump and wanted 1100-1200$ to fix it. as of today, i am having the car towed to a local repair station where i leave to see if they can diagnose the problem and let me know what caused the stall. ...

My engine stopped this morning while i was driving my car, a 2005 toyota corolla, part of a 1.3 million car 2010 recall. luckily, i was at a stoplight, my car restarted, and i was able to drive to a nearby toyota dealership, where it is being fixed free of charge (although it's taking 24-36 hours for the part to be restocked). toyota's known about his potential problem since 2005 - i'm furious that it took them 5 years to issue a recall. i could have been killed. *tr

My 2005 toyota corolla, its engine warning light was illuminated in 2007. then the car dealer replaced the computer system. in 2008, as the losing control, the car slid out of the road and hit the tree. in 2009, the warning light was illuminated again, this time they changed gasket and found the air can enter the engine and caused the engine problem (lose power and can't drive more than 30mph). since then, we experienced such problems three times: when we drive, the car can suddenly lose power and can't drive more than 30mph, but it become normal and the mechanic worker can't find the problem the next day. we think this problem is very dangerous and need to report to your company. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 toyota corolla. the contact stated that she received a recall notice; nhtsa campaign id number: 10v384000, engine and engine cooling for her vehicle. the dealer was informed about the recall notice and stated that they do not have the part in stock and will not know when they will have it. the manufacturer was also contacted and confirmed what the dealer stated. the failure and current mileages were 56398.

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 toyota corolla. the contact was driving 20 mph when the vehicle stalled without warning. the contact was able to restart the vehicle after ten minutes and it was towed to a local mechanic facility for diagnostic testing. the mechanic was only able to diagnose a failure connected to the check engine warning light. the vehicle was then towed to the dealer who advised the contact that the ecm circuit board would need to be replaced at the contact's expense. the manufacturer was contacted and a claim was file. no other assistance offered. the vehicle was not repaired. the vin was unavailable. the failure mileage was 140,000.

In summer, corolla experience harsh shifting and indicator light came on. ecm replaced in july - approx one month before recall occurred. at the time of correction, car was at nearly 91,000 miles - research ecm issues online, contacted toyota and they stated since it was out of warranty they had no obligation to cover ecm repair. recall released within one month of ecm repair. less than 60 days later, took corolla back to dealership. car still experience harsh shifting. after paying $225 for a transmission flush, and dealer shifting transmission manually, the dealer stated ecm works fine, transmission will need to be replaced at +$3k. researched and identified similar problem in toyota rav4 - ecm failure led to transmission failure. filing complaint because i think toyota needs to pay for my new transmission. at current time, transmission not fixed..want an explanation, if the component that tells the transmission to shift accurately isn't working, then why doesn't toyota recognize that the transmission has the potential to not work properly - if problem occurred in rav4, why not corollas? now that ecm is fixed, transmission is still damaged from prior ecm failure. updated ivoq 02/09/11 *tr

My 2005 toyota corolla would not start one morning. i kept trying to start it and no clicking or sound of the car trying to turn over happened. eventually it did start but had a very hesitating sound to it. the next day, it had the same problems so i tried charging the battery for a few minutes. this seemed to work and i was able to drive my car to work. as i was driving, the car began to shift hard and the check engine light came on. i called toyota and a local toyota dealership after discovering that my car was involved in a recall. toyota then gave the go ahead to the dealership to replace the ecm, the part being recalled. the dealership replaced the part free of charge and the car seemed to be "fixed". two days later... my car will once, not start. *tr

Bought a used toyota corolla in texas at a toyota dealer, on the way home to ny, after a few hundred miles, it died on the interstate and myself and my son spent the night in it, like the key was turned off. loaded on a roll-back, and taken to a toyota dealer, they said that they didn't know why, but they reprogrammed the computer. now, $60 dollars poorer, down the road i go, another couple hundred miles, again it dies on the interstate, spent another night in it, onto another roll-back to another toyota dealer. these folks tell me that i have bad computer sensors in the throttle body, they install a new one, charge me $1,300 dollars, and off i go, until a hundred miles down the road, it quits again on the interstate, this time on a dangerous spot on a blind curve. a police officer provided protection from on coming traffic until the tow arrived. another rollback ride to the toyota dealer. they do something more to it, down the road i go, finally making it home. now i know that its not just my car. i think the toyota company should have repaired the computer sensors in the throttle body at no charge. all three times that the corolla quit, we were in a heavy traffic situation in the middle lane of a multi-lane interstate, and moving at the speed limit. we were extremely lucky that no one was hurt. *tr

Toyota issued a technical service (#ac002-06) bulletin regarding the condenser not being properly protected for the 05 and 06 corolla models. they said that you could take the car to the dealership and they would install netting around the condenser- but if it is already broken- then you are out of luck. mine has been broken for two years-now i am now spending over $500 to replace the condenser and my co-worker drives an 06 model and hers has been broken for a year. this is a safety concern for people driving in extreme heat. we are taking a family trip to nv this weekend, so i had to bite the bullet and get mine fixed, but this is ridiculous. how can they admit a design flaw and then not fix it:( also- my car lost 4 hubcaps within 2 weeks from purchasing it and i have noticed several others around town with the same problem. while i got some cheap ones to replace the ones i lost- having your hubcaps fly off is a definite safety issue and concern. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 toyota corolla. while driving at approximately 3 mph pressure was applied to the break pedal and the check engine light illuminated on the dashboard. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the gas cap, the transmission and an unknown charcoal canister were replaced. approximately one week later the vehicle began to intermittently stall. the vehicle was taken back to the authorized dealer where the engine control module was replaced. approximately a week and a half later the vehicle again began to stall. the vehicle was taken back to the authorized dealer where they informed her they believe the amplifier was draining power from the battery which may be the cause of the failures. the amplifier was removed by the authorized dealer. upon receiving the vehicle it continued to intermittently stall. the vehicle was taken back to the authorized dealer but she was unsure if the vehicle was repaired. the failures continue to recur intermittently. the failure mileage was 70,816 and the current mileage was 71,955.

Was driving toyota corolla 2005 out of a parking lot when engine stalled, and could not be restarted. no warning signs or flashing lights on dashboard prior to engine failure. engine lost power while driving. power could not be regained. brought to toyota dealership and was told ecm had to be replaced because of a failed component. *tr

I noticed an odd disruption in normal transmission function on my 2005 toyota corolla. i suspected it was due to a defective engine component . i went to the local toyota dealership and was told that the engine control module needed to be replaced ;that the car would stop running without replacing it. on inquiry i was told that there is a problem with this component on 2005 toyota corolla's. the dealership refused to replace the component. i called the toyota corporate office on june 8,2010 (1-800-331-4331) call reference number: 1006081641 it became apparent that toyota knows there is a problem with defective engine control module's in 2005 toyota corolla's. if the phone call is pulled by the national highway safety traffic administration a wider problem with defective engine control modules may become evident. i identified the problem as a safety issue when i called the toyota corporate office. *tr the consumer had the necessary repairs made at the dealer at her expense. updated ivoq 10/18/10

My 2005 toyota corolla ce has been randomly stalling on me when i turn, when im at red lights, when im accelerating and when im slowing down with no rhyme or reason. it just started one day and continues to do at random times and with random frequency. i do not feel safe when this happens and there is no way to determine when my gas pedal will quit working, no noise to let me know it is about to or has happened, no overheating of the engine, no spikes in the rpms or anything, it just does it. i was almost in an accident the other night at 11pm when i was at a red light and went to accelerate and there was no response, the person behind me almost rear-ended me because of this. i was able to take it to a mechanic who said the computer was reading it was a fuel actuator issue. they advised me to contact toyota since that is the same failure that is being recalled on all the other vehicles. i have made several attempts to contact toyota which haven't resolved anything yet, so my car is still stalling and nothing has been done to resolve it as of yet. *tr

The heater in our car was malfunctioning, it would take 15-20 minutes before it would get warm, we took it to the toyota dealership( roughly 03/31/2010 ) where we purchased it ( and they have done all the maintenance, oil changes, transmission flush, etc. ) they looked at the car and just said that it needed some coolant and that was it. the heater worked for just a couple days and then the heater began doing the same thing again. on the night of 04/17/2010 while driving home the engine got very hot all of the sudden, we pulled over and purchased some more coolant and put it in the car , drove the car home and then on monday 04/19/2010 we took it back in to have them look at it again and they said that there is a crack right down the middle of the engine block and that is why the coolant keeps draining. they told us we need to have the engine replaced. it is a 2005 corolla with only 79,000 miles on it. we were 4,000 miles past our extended warranty. they said since they haven't seen this before that they would give us brand new engine but we would have to pay $ 2274.00 for labor and a thermostat. it is currently at tony divino toyota in riverdale , utah being repaired. *tr

2003 - engine stalled; taken to dealership and indicated was computer. computer was replaced due to being under warranty. 03/17/10 - coming home from work and within 1/4 to 1/2 mile of getting onto highway car stalls, check engine light comes on and would not accelerate above 25 miles per hour. eventually engine stopped totally. towed to nearest facility and upon running diagnostics assessed that it was the computer again. attempting to resolve this w/ toyota as this is a second failure on the computer. no resolution to date. *tr

While crossing large intersection @ 15-20 mph car lost power and tried to stall, after a few seconds it cleared up, approx. 5 min. latter while stopped at a red light, engine rpm dropped from idle ( 1000rpm) to 450 rpm with engine fluttering trying to stall, this lasted about 7-10 seconds then suddenly cleared up. did not take car toyota as yet, trying to get more info from toyota about problem. *tr

On 3/11/2010, i drove 2005 toyota corolla on the exit of high way at about 35 mile per hr. the car suddenly speed u and hit concert barrier. my car was total loss. i am a good drive and never had a ticket during past 20 years. i am sure it is car problem. *tr

This complaint is concerning my 2005 toyota corolla on the 11th of march 2010 while driving down the highway at approximately 60 miles an hour i went to accelerate to change lanes. as i pressed on the accelerator my car did not respond, and began to slow down. i turned the wheel to pull over to the shoulder and realized that i did not have power steering, thus confirming the overall stall. i managed to get to the shoulder and after about a minute i tried to turn the key and the car came back on. i was able to drive to don davis certified toyota parts and repair. after running a three hour diagnostic was reported to me that "nothing was wrong" with the car. the computer showed no signs of any type of glitch or malfunction. i returned home, only to find a report several days later about corollas suddenly stalling. *tr *dt

The engine stalled lots of time when i used brake to stop at a stop sign, or when i drove at low speed in traffic, such as 1 to 5 mile per hour. i had to press gas at a stop sign while i put the car in parking position to keep the engine alive. it took the dealer more than one month to fix it. the first time the dealer returned it to me and told me the problem had been fixed, the car stalled within 200 ft after i left the dealer. i walked back and told the dealer. the dealer told me to drive it back to home and "let the computer learn by itself". i did as the dealer told me but the car stalled as before. i had to bring it back to the dealer. dealer changed the computer for me. the engine-stall problem is solved. right now, the car (most probably the engine) still vibrates/shakes strongly when i stop the car at the stop sign, at the red light, and drive the car at very low speed (such as 1 to 5 mile per hour). *tr

Was at a stop light and put the car into 1st gear and proceeded to accelerate up to 15mpg. upon shifting the car into 2nd gear it did not take and the car then made a noise. i had to then place the car back into 1st gear and pull to the side of the road almost getting hit by other traffic and stop on the side of the road for a full inspection. there was nothing visible upon inspection and no current noises at that time so i proceeded to go again first shifting into 1st gear then second and i stopped at 3rd and went straight home. about one and 1/2 miles later it started making another noise similar to the first, but it was continuous and so i parked the car at home and had it towed to the dealership. they then explained to me that this was a very common problem with this motor(being the type that it was) and what had happened is a rod in the engine had been spun. they said it could have been worse and i could have lost control and wrecked the car very easily. they said that due to the nature and price they would not fix the car because it would have to have a full new engine replacement and that would be up to $8k because of it being a rare and high performance price. after further inspection and online research it is very common while downshifting this engine that they slip a gear and spin the rod mostly in the #4 rod and need a new engine for complete repairs. also it would very likely continue to happen again and again thus putting me and my family in danger on the road. toyota will not fix the problem they do acknowledge it and that it exists, but will not do the repairs because of the price issue. it is a major safety issue though. the bar also requested that it be reported to nhtsa. *tr

2005 corolla, 60,000 miles: check engine light came on. car went into "safe" mode (idle speed) while doing 65mph. toyota replaced throttle body and the next day it did the same thing. toyota said the "new' throttle body they put in was defective. it's still at toyota waiting for another throttle body. this is a very dangerous situation. pulling out into traffic you do not know if it is going to go into safe mode or not, and of course, going down highway 50-70 mph there is a good chance of being rear-ended. this is not a safe situation. *tr
