We have classified the 63 complaints from 2012 Toyota Camry about POWER TRAIN into the following categories.
Transmission shutters or vibrates in low speed between gears and is only 79,000 miles and i just bought the car one month ago.
Air conditioning and transmission that have 2 problems
Vehicle exhibits extreme delay in acceleration, particularly at highway speeds. gas can be to the floor and there is little to no response for at least one minute, not even a jump in rpm aaa a result of the increased throttle. trying to merge on to the highway is dangerous when the vehicle remains stuck at 40mph for at least one minute, if not longer. even once the vehicle has been brought up to speed, trying to change lanes or pass is near impossible as there is little to no response to engaging the throttle. this is dangerous and could easily result in an accident.. i have seen thousands of complaints regarding this issue. transmission has a generally delayed response, vehicle rolls backwards when transitioning from brake to gas, even on flat ground. this is yet another hazard seemingly brought on by the automatic transmission. vehicle was part of the torque converter recall. the recall repair was performed and it didn't make any difference for the vehicle. the transmission feels like it is on the verge of failing despite the vehicle still being 'young' and well-cared for. it has always been serviced by a dealership that claims this is normal. the amount of hesitation in the transmission is not and can not be normal. the car drives like its half asleep. it has been getting worse recently and i fear the transmission is going to fail, or the vehicle malfunction is going to result in an accident.
While driving the camry in automatic the transmission appears to downshift slowly and drag
Vehicle shutters during light acceleration around 10mph-30mph. it develops a mild hesitation and lasts a few seconds unless acceleration is stopped. i continue accelerating and it passes. this just started after 100,000 miles and is consistent -happens all the time.
The vehicle exhibits shutter and vibration between 25 and 50 mph. the vehicle was taken to toyota dealer where software update for transmission was performed. technicians said vehicle was shutter free. the shutter did not improve any after this update. vehicle was then taken to independent mechanic where transmission fluid was flushed twice. mechanic noted that fluid was extremely dirty required 2nd flush to fully clean system. vehicle had approximately 70,000 miles at time of incident. mechanic noted that transmission likely needed replaced but new fluid would help with the issue. vehicle improved after fluid change but the shutter has now returned with 125,000 miles on vehicle. the shutter feels like the car is running over a rumble strip in between the 25-50 mph range as the car shifts gears.
Transmission shudders when accelerating from a complete stop. when you accelerate it shudders
Transmission failure. transmission was experiencing torque converter shudder. dealer replaced original torque converter at ~106,000 miles under warranty enhancement. after replacement the transmission developed a vibration between 30-40 mph. took car back to servicing dealer (hoselton toyota in east rochester, ny) and was told transmission had failed and that replacement was not covered by the warranty enhancement. dealer has made the claim that the failure is not related to the torque converter replacement or torque converter shudder. they are claiming a faulty transmission cooler is to blame for the failure. time elapsed between original warranty repair and diagnosis of out-of-warranty transmission failure was less than 3 months. at time or original repair the dealer did not diagnose any other faulty components and did not make recommendations for replacement of any transmission or related components.
As i begin accelerating the car shudders and does not respond. seeing many complaints with the same exact problem. the hesitant acceleration has almost caused me to get t boned & rear ended multiple times. i took my car to be checked and the problem is with the transmission assembly needed to be replaced and recommended filing complaint with the manufacturer for a service campaign concerning sputtering and the torque converter the problem is definitely a safety issue!
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 toyota camry. while driving approximately 35 mph, the vehicle began to shake and hesitate. there were no warning indicators illuminated. the contact stated that the failure occurred for at least three years. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and they determined that the transmission failed and needed replacement. the dealer and manufacturer were not notified of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 98,585.
When driving between the speeds of 35-60 mph, can shakes and shudders while accelerating. very noticeable when coasting at these speeds and then stepping on accelerator. car feels and sounds like riding over rumble strips. this has been occurring for about 6 months. car has 148,000 miles on it.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 toyota camry. while driving 20 mph, the accelerator pedal was applied, but the vehicle slowed down. there were no warning indicators illuminated. the local dealer was not contacted. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was contacted and did not assist. the failure mileage was 110,000.
Torque converter problem causing the car to shudder at lower speeds. feels like i've just run over road strips. it happens on all kinds of road surface, smooth and not so smooth.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 toyota camry. while driving 25 mph, the vehicle started to shake. also, when changing gears, there was heat coming from the gear shifter. there was no warning indicator illuminated. the vehicle was not taken to a dealer or an independent mechanic for diagnostic testing. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 120,000.
Transmission shutters or vibrates ever time you go to take off or slow down, between the speeds of 20mph and 50 mph
Around 40-45 mph the vehicle starts to stutter/shake when changing gears. i look online and these cars have problem with the torque converter and toyota would not fix it because they said its not a recall. i took it to the dealership but the technician said that he cannot feel in and neither does his supervisor. i feel the stutter/ shake everyday when i drive the car.
I was just at a stoplight. i was the first car. when i went to accelerate the car did not pick up speed for at least a full minute. i was afraid someone driving behind me would run into my car or start honking because i was driving so slow. it happened at the stop light prior too, but it wasn't as noticeable because i ran into another stop light almost immediately. i called toyota and was advised to take the car to a certified toyota dealer after i read a report on cars.com that said the problem might be due to a combination of an engine control module software glitch and a faulty torque converter. i later read that the brake pedal may need adjusting because the gas pedal thinks the brake pedal is on.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 toyota camry. while driving 25 mph, the vehicle violently jerked while switching gears. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the transmission needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the dealer and manufacturer were not made aware of the failure. the vin and failure mileage were unknown.
While driving on any road between 20 and 40 mph, 3rd and 4th speed, the transmission shudders and while pressing the gas, the vehicle hesitates. sometimes it is somewhat clear to accelerate, other times it feels like you are fighting a wall that will not move. i believe from what i have read that it has to do with the ecu and a possible faulty torque converter. this should be looked into by the nhtsa proactively, and not left to the individual consumer to see if the issue resolves itself. if the car fails in moving traffic, someone could hit me from behind. at this time, i am having to go from 2nd speed to 4th speed by 40 mph to go around 3rd gear altogether. this is not the way the car should operate. vehicle is in motion when this happens on any road at any time.
Delay in shifting on low speeds bettween 20 and 50 mph.the car shuttters when accelerating or coming to stop
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 toyota camry. the contact noticed abnormal sputtering and a strong vibration coming from the vehicle while driving 20 to 50 mph. the dealer (advantage toyota valley stream, 400 w sunrise highway, valley stream, new york 11581, 516-887-3200) determined that the intake valve needed to be replaced. the part was replaced but, within a month, the vehicle was taken back for a second diagnostic testing where it was diagnosed that the transmission assembly needed to be replaced. an independent mechanic inspected the vehicle and recommended that the contact check with the manufacturer for a service campaign concerning sputtering and the torque converter. the manufacturer and the dealer (hillside toyota, 139-65 queens blvd, jamaica, ny 11435, (718) 571-8211) were contacted and an appointment was made for diagnostic testing and repairs. the contact was waiting for a response from the manufacturer to determine if they would approve the recall repair. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was not available. *tt *tr
Had the same issue 3 years ago they took my car for 3 days trying to fix it. it's stuttering a lot. first time took it in the dealer had it for a day. took it back right after i drove off. then they kept it for 3 days after that. now i'm having the same issue since last year and nobody seem to be paying attention to my complaints. driving 40 mph and it does the stuttering for seconds at a time every single day.
Vehicle shutters during light acceleration around 15mph-30mph. it develops a mild shake and lasts a few seconds unless acceleration is stopped.

Shift lever locked in park position. shift lever release button had to be pressed to release lever and reverse out of parking stall. once vehicle was in motion the stability control, abs, and parking brake lights remained illuminated until vehicle was shut off.
Shift lever locked in park position, could not shift to reverse out of parking stall. had to press shift lock release button to shift to reverse. then once vehicle was in motion the stability control, abs, and parking brake lights remained illuminated. the shift lever locked on 4 separate occasions that day. the release button had to be pressed every time. the lights remained illuminated whenever vehicle was running.
As i am accelerating between 20-50 mph the car shudders. i called my local toyota dealership and they want to charge me a diagnostic fee of $140 just to see if that is the problem. my son has a 2014 and my daughter has a 2015 and all have the same exact problem. i have 110,000 miles on my car, my son 80,000 and my daughter 70,000 miles. this should be a recall since we all have the same exact problem. i am afraid as we are accelerating to enter the freeway and the car is stalling we might get hit from behind. its definitely a safety issue!
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 toyota camry. while attempting to drive, the vehicle stalled without warning. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the issue. the failure mileage was 27,250.
2012 toyota camry. consumer writes in regards to a defective torque converter shudder, vehicle transmission reprogrammed but problem still exists. *smd toyota had no other problem for the fix for the problem and the consumer did not received any further communication. *jb
Takata recall less than 4 years although with little high mileage, my brand new 2012 toyota camry makes noises when i drive on the highway. i took the car to balise toyota scion of warwick to check and service advisor mentioned that the noise is coming from the transmission. they recommended replacing the transmission at my own cost. and the noise is getting louder and louder. why is a brand new less four years old car need replacing transmission? i have 2 friends who owned the same car and model and year, and they have same problems with their transmission. they had their transmission replaced under the warranty because of lower mileage. therefore, i think 2012 toyota camry's transmission has problem.
Tirs go down backed seat belt don't work speed don't work well
The car hesitates for three to five seconds after decelerating, or when turning a corner, taking my foot off the pedal and then trying to accelerate again. brought to dealer and they updated the software and told me there isn't any problems with the care. they lie. over 200 people have reported this problem with toyotas on one site alone.
When i am driving between the speeds of 35 to 55 there is a vibration as if the transmission is grinding, i took it to the car dealer ship and was told this has been a issue with this year model and that we can either change the transmission fluid in three separate visits or add a vibration stabilizing additive. the additive worked for about 2 months but it seems to be worse now then before. i believe if toyota knows there is a problem they should fix it at no cost to the customer i still owe 13,000.00 on my car and do not feel it should be my responsability to replace the transmission. it makes you feel as if it is going to break down at any moment not safe for a woman.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 toyota camry. while driving between 30-50 mph, the accelerator pedal was depressed and the vehicle would shutter and lose power without warning. the contact mentioned that failure had been present for several months, but seemed to be getting worse. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that there was an extended warranty program; however, the vin was not included. the failure mileage was approximately 55,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 toyota camry. while driving at approximately 45 mph, the vehicle hesitated while shifting gears. the failure recurred numerous times. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 113,103.
First, the transmission is really jerk when accelerate at stop light. it also jerk really hard when down shift. it feels like the transmission is delay. second, the electric steering wheel. the radio just shut off by itself and the steering wheel light came on at the same time, and then the light came off and the radio restarted by itself again. i feel like the electric has some problem.
Experience a hesitation when accelerating out of stop and go i'm having accelerating issues where the car stalls when pulling out from a stop. has happened problem 5-10 times since i purchased the car in feb. 2015. very dangerous. here are a couple of links where many other camry and toyota owners speak of the same issues. but it seems that toyota is doing nothing about it. this needs to be fixed asap. http://repairpal.com/automatic-transmissions-may-hesitate-when-accelerating-072 https://fourwheeldrift.wordpress.com/2007/01/16/toyota-avalon-transmission-problems-expose-toyotas-problem-reporting-problems/
When re-applying the gas while still moving (20-40 mph) our 2012 toyota camry se (4-cyl, automatic) sometimes hesitates. it feels like a shutter in the gas pedal, but i am unable to determine if it is in the transmission or in the accelerator/fuel delivery system. it lasts for a few seconds and then things smooth out and the car operates normally. it has become more frequent in recent weeks (now 3 months since the issue was first noticed).
When i start to drive my car from a rest position it starts to drag for approximately 30-50 feet before it starts the drive normal.
Start in to traffic anit will stop accelerating for 2or 3 seconds , people behind you will almost hit you after you start when it hesitates
Vehicle hesitates when accelerating and changing to second gear. it just started last month. i thought it would be corrected when i had the torque converter recall remediated but transmission still hesitates. transmission issues???? *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 toyota camry. while driving at 40 mph, the vehicle would not accelerate over 40 mph and made an abnormal noise. in addition, the engine warning light illuminated. the failure recurred several times. the vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the transmission needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 98,000.
Toyota has a service bulletin for a problematic torque converter for 2012 thru 2014 toyotas camrys, i went to the dealer today. a simple computer download was supposed to fix the problem, however did not. im just wondering if this should be a regular recall, and toyota is hiding this problem from you and the general public again. *tr
When i accelerate the car when the rpm's are between 1,500 and 2,500 rpm, there is a shudder and delay in acceleration. the car shakes until i press the accelerator pedal very hard. i brought the car to apple valley toyota dealer (martinsburg, wv) for analysis one month after purchase (january 3, 2103). they did not find anything wrong with it. there was a recent campaign by toyota to update torque converter software. the software update was done at apple valley toyota in martinsburg, wv (november 12, 2014). the software did not change this behavior. i took it in to back to apple valley toyota (november 17, 2014) and they re-evaluated the car and they stated that it "operates as designed by toyota." i find this car dangerous to operate because of the delay in acceleration through intersections. i do not have any other family member drive this car until this is resolved. also, my warranty will soon expire and i am concerned that this is causing transmission damage. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 toyota camry. while accelerating from a traffic light, the vehicle hesitated. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for routine maintenance. the contact stated that while at the dealer the mechanic reprogrammed the ecu module. the contact stated that after the vehicle was repaired, it independently decelerated without warning. the vehicle was taken back to the dealer where the failure was unable to be determined. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 25,148.
I got a 2012 toyota camry from a dealership. i have had the car for six months now and is having problems with it. while i am driving and pressing on the gas when i get between 10-20mph the car hesitates/jerks. i talked to the dealership and they recommend that i take to this place that they have work on there cars. and that is all they could do. i should not be having these type of problems with a car that i just got and is making monthly payments on it. *tr
There is a noise in the front wheels or when brakes are applied from forward to reverse, it makes a clicking sound that can be heard inside the vehicle when applying the brakes. dealer has checked it or listened to the noise and says it is normal. it is still worried some as to what will happen in a emergency. *tr
as my wife and i were riding in the car we felt a brief shudder... we thought it was maybe from the road.... as time went on we felt it on different road surfaces.... the car is equipped with an automatic transmission but the shudder felt like a standard transmission that needs to be down shifted.... we started searching the web to see if there was anyone complaining about this problem and was directed to toyota website and found out about 5 weeks later that toyota was issuing a service to update the software for u760e torque converter shudder.... we had this upgrade performed at hoffman toyota on nov.26,2014 before receiving any info from toyota corp ... the shudder has not been resolved...i will be calling them to let them know that this service upgrade has not resolved the problem... *tr
This vehicle shudders and vibrates as it accelerates between 20 to 30 mph and also from 40 to 50 mph. toyota issued a recall to fix this problem and i took the car in. the fix has not worked and the issue is getting worse. what do i do? *js
I was told by toyota that is normal now for the brake actuator to perform a test once the car changes gears from first to second gear. the actuator makes a grinding/odd noise no matter how many times you hit the brakes or go into different gears. i demonstrated this issue with toyota in person and then was left for 3 days. after the toyota dealership opened a ticket with toyota technical support, it is now deemed "normal" everyday you start your car and when the car switches to second gear, "it is the brake actuator pressurize and performing it's test". the sound heard is normal. given there has been so many issues with toyota and their actuators. i hope they have deemed my brake actuator as safe because from what i have read in the news, a faulty brake actuator is very unsafe. i have called up toyota care who said "we only rely and trust what are technicians say". toyota better have their story straight because they have had a bad record in the past with safety issues. *tr
