Air conditioning and transmission that have 2 problems
While driving and running my vehicle ac, i began hearing a "liquid swishing" noise, often when turning or coming to a stop. later, when parked, i noticed the mat/carpet under the drivers seat was wet. upon further inspection a few days later, the mat was still soaked and there was standing water there, as well soaked carpet behind the passenger seat. from research, this appears to be a more common issue with the 2012 camry if the ac comes loose or becomes clogged.

Takata recall the driver door is not locking or unlocking when button is pushed on the remote or any buttons in the car at any time. the only way to lock or unlock is to use the key in the door or to manually lock and unlock actual lock. it's not safe as the car sounds as if it's locking but the drivers door is not and gives the opportunity for someone to get in my car that is not to be in my car. has been on and off since about january 2019 but stopped working 6/3/2019.
The transmission fills like it is slipping when i get between 25 -50 mph. and it is getting worse

Car hesitates and looses power while moving forward and while exiting and or starting up from an intersection. rear cars and myself are in danger. this problem is from a dead stop as well as from slow speed while turning and leaving an intersection.this camery was purchased in 2015, and the dealership has refused to acknowledge this problem since first reported, which was in 2015. over 300 toyota customers have reported this problem over the past 5-7 years.
My 2012 camry with only 60,123 miles is failing the torque converter so that is mean like transmission problems
I was driving on a busy 3 lane road at about 35 mph and the car just cut off. no warning lights came up on the dashboard. i do not know what components of the car caused it to cut off. i put the car in park and tried to restart it but nothing happened. i put on the emergency lights, got out of the car and waved to oncoming traffic to alert them that the car was stopped in the middle of the road. i was almost killed, and worst yet, others could have been seriously killed or injured as well. a young man stopped and pushed the car out of traffic. after a few minutes i tried to start the car again. it started and i was able to get to work but needless to say my nerves are rattled. i have called the dealership to have it looked at.
Driving car and i was stopped at intersection on a foggy morning about 6:15 am. went to turn right at intersection and saw what i thought was a dense amount of fog flow across the front of my car. as i drove down the road, i smelled something burning, saw some smoke from under the front hood. an alarm went of and my dash displayed the warning hybrid system malfunction. then fire started coming out from under the hood and up along the front windshield. i was just passing a gas station at the time so i continue to drive down pass the gas station and then pulled the car over to the side of the road and existed the car. the nearest fire company was out on a call, so the car continued to burn for about 30 minutes. as a result the entire front half of the car was completing burnt. had no problems with the car prior to this fire. in fact, i drove it 176 miles the night before the fire. learned after i existed the car while it was on fire, that a driver coming up the road behind me after i turned at the intersection, noticed sparks and/or flames shooting out from under my car. she was flashing her headlights at me, but i did not notice her.
Unintended acceleration in reverse while backing out of parking space in a parking lot. the vehicle accelerated very fast, resulting in extensive damage to vehicle and two other parked vehicles.
I just purchased my 2012 toyota camry with 77,000 miles on the spedometer. about a week later after driving this vehicle. i notice the traction control light, abs light, and brake light all came on at the same time. the lights will not go out until you turn off the vehicle. sometimes when you start the vehicle, these lights come on and it will not allow you to take the vehicle out of park. this vehicle also feels like you about to hydroplane while driving around 25 mph, which feels unsafe. i've taken this vehicle bake to the dealer, and they stated that they needed to replace a brake assembly switch. i have done some research on this same vehicle, and found out that the brake assembly switch was change and they still had the same problem. the traction control, abs light, and brake light only comes on when you apply the brakes at low speed.
My toyota camry 2012 se has 80,000 miles on it and it started to do a hard shift into second gear that resulted in me needing a new transmission. i see online that a lot of people are having transmission issues with their 2012 camry. i can't believe this hasn't been recalled already?!?! i take very good care of my car and have always enjoyed owning a toyota but now i have lost faith in the quality of the brand. if toyota doesn't fix this problem and i then i am done with toyota.
While driving on any road ( highway, city street, ect.) at between 25 and 45 mph. the transmission shuders. this from my research shows that there is a massive manufacture defect in the tourque converter as well as the ecu. this could and will cause major transmission issues. this should and needs to be a mandatory recall.
I bought my 2012 toyota camry in may of this year and it's was great until the cold weather hit yes antifreeze problem started slowly loosing antifreeze and now inside of car stinks antifreeze. i real lise must be a heater core problem. did anybody else had this problem and i believe the warranty is done. so much on average does is cost to fix this problem.
My toyota when i go 40 miles to 60 between it starts to shake and vibrate when i push the gas not stops so if i had to guess just a little bit starts to shutter more starts to shake and then she just pisses me off i owe $13,000 on this car right now i'm definitely going to take it back and see what's going on but by reading all the problems that you guys have and you guys win big and nobody fixed it i don't think they're going to do anything about my car they should do a recall i'm disappointed in toyota i usually love toyota report abuse
Glare from the dashboard under certain sun angles completely obscures vision through the windshield. at times we are forced to drive at a crawl. in one instance, we almost ran into a flagperson who was standing in the road directing traffic around a work crew.
Took my car to toyota to diagnose, it felt as if it was downshifting when i was driving! they said they did a test drive as well as diagnostic on it! everything is good they said! i drive off the lot and the problem persisted! i took it to another mechanic when the problem wasn't getting better, worried because i drive my 2 little girls everywhere! and lo and behold it's the transmission! which i then drove back to mountain states toyota and then they confirmed! according to several mechanics it's a fault in the toyota transmission that they will not admit to! of coarse! toyota persisting to get us out when confronted, managers cussing, so on and so forth! they then proceeded to lie to me and tell me i haven't been in sense 95,000 lol when i was just in within that month with this same problem! more lies! now i am almost positive they have poured something down my transmission to thicken the fluid as a temporary fix! they had my car in the shop for 2 hours me thinking they were just doing a diagnostic on it! they know there is a problem they will just not admit it, and are putting people in danger! this is not right! there are macanics working for toyota knowing this is a problem but can't do anything because they are afraid to lose their job! i have been the only owner of my vehicle, and have maintaind it sense i drove it off that lot! only the best love and care thinking this toyota camry will be safe and last as long as tho old one that my parents got from the auction that just recently finally hit the bed! stand up and fight if it's not right! and that's what i'm doing! please go to a mechanic asap! toyota will lie and tell you it's the torque converter first but it is the transmission and they know it, they will make their money while you and your children are driving around in a vehicle that has a fault in the transmission!!!

The following problem is related to the malfunctioning of the navigation system and display controls in the radio console for the toyota camry 2012 se and other similar vehicles manufactured by toyota. the buttons on the console stopped working around 2 years ago thus disabeling access to navigation, bluetooth connectivity and other functions. due to lack of on screen navigation i have been forced to resort to using a mobile which is distracting to a driver and may lead to accidents especially in unfamiliar areas and on multilane highway near exits. also as connectivity to the phone via bluetooth has been disabled calls cannot be recieved using the buttons on the steering wheel. on researching more on this topic i have realized that there are multiple vehicle owners facing similar issues with the same part of the vehicle for various vehicles that toyota produces. the solution provided by toyota needs replacement of the faulty console which costs between $800 to $1000. multiple videos and comments requesting a cheap solution for this issue can be seen on the internet. some suggestions included replacement of a part called communication extension module manufactured by "harman automotive part number 86100-yy050". i have been fortunate enough only to have had a few close calls due to distractions but this may be a concern and toyoya should come up with a cheaper solution for this issue rather than simply saying " you will have to pay a $1000 fir replacing the entire console that too when all other functions are working"
Vehicle shutters at 30-45 mph when accelerating and the foot is taken off the gas. if you hit the gas and speed up or slow down enough, it stops, but it seems to be getting worse and worse. started at just 45mph, now happens at 30 and 35 mph as well. in reading other forums, there doesn't seem to be a fix for this. some have been told a computer upgrade, but that was only temporary and it came back worse.
Door locking/unlocking failing. i have replaced 3 out of 4 parts to repair the problem over the last 2 years. in an emergency situation, as an example, where you need to get your child out of the car, the locks could fail.
From a stopped position, acceleration hesitates between 2nd and 3rd gear. it does not do it when slowing and then accelerating. unsafe for pulling into traffic.
Sunroof glass exploded. while driving on the highway yesterday, my wife and i heard a loud explosion from above. we thought something had dropped from the sky and fell on our car. then i noticed in my rear view mirror of glass falling off the back windshield. the suv following behind me was changing lanes to avoid the glass. then i opened the sunroof visor and glass was falling onto us. we exited off the highway and saw a gaping hole in the sunroof. the hole was gaping outward as if the explosion come from inside.
My son was turning a corner and his camry accelerated out of control causing him to go over a median, damaging the car. the accident was on 2/18/17. the vehicle was towed to toyota that same day. toyota motor company was contacted on monday 2/20/17. an independent investigation report shows the acceleration. this report was received 3/24/17. today is 5/3/17 and we still have not heard anything from toyota as to the investigation or safety of the vehicle. the toyota dealership will not touch the vehicle until the parent corporation tells them it is ok. we are getting the run around. every time i call they say it will be another 30 days, you will receive a call or you will receive something in the mail. it has been almost 3 months with no resolution. we don't want to get attorney's involved but what else can we do? we have consulted with an attorney but would prefer for toyota to just do the right thing. can you assist?
Automatic door lock and unlock stops working. my car had just passed 60k when the driver side door will not open or lock by pressing the key fob. after couple month all 4 doors have the same issue. i have to lock and unlock all 4 doors by manually unlocking using the key. after research found out the door actuators have failed on all 4 doors and multiple toyota and lexus owners are experiencing the same issue.
Several lug nuts have cracks in them. at least one lug nut has multiple cracks. cracks were noted during tire rotation.

This situation have been going on for a month. when i have sitting at a light or on idle. my trac, abs and brake light continue to come on every other week or so. i have seen this complaint before from other camry's owner online. when they go to the dealership, they tell them it is a sensor. but it is never resolved. can anybody tell me what is going on with the car? i only had this car for a year. this is scary for me due to me having 2 kids.
Sunroof glass exploded. while driving on the highway coming home, we heard a loud explosion from above. we thought something had dropped from the sky and fell on our car. the sunroof had shattered and glass was falling onto us as i was driving. i had to drive about 5 miles(going about 40 mph) until i was able to exit the highway. upon observation there was a huge hole in the sunroof with glass continuing to fall as i continued to drive home.
The car seat is perfect but the car seat base is horrible it moves around every time i turn and i know is not supposed to do that with the baby. now the model i have it's not even listed on the highway safety ..so i font know if is on recall or not.
There is noise coming from the sunroof all the way to the back of the car when hit any bumps or uneven road sounds like popping or knocking noise car only has 50,000 miles
I purchased the car from a dealership in jacksonville, florida.after i signed papers and wanted to take the car home i have noticed a sticker closed to the drivers door, it says toyota motor corporation, authorized modification, the following modifications has been made (and then with a red marker it is written dot recall) and underneath of it continue, these modifications have been approved as appropriate by epa and carb. dealer code 09231. date 3/19/14. i do not know what this means, was car on recall by dot and was/were the issue/issues resolved or not. can you help. contact me at [xxx]. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).
At 39,000 miles, my driver door stopped locking/unlocking with the remote. a month later the passenger door lock failed and a month later the right back seat lock failed, and then the left back seat lock failed. all security has to be done manually, using the emergency key located in the remote. batteries in remote changed. dealer (joe myers) declined repair since out of mileage warranty (but not yet 3 years owned). seems odd that 4 actuators all failed since they are different parts. repair estimate $2,200.
Once my car approach 40 to 45 mph regardless if im on the city street or highway it has a vibration. not sure when it started but i know it was like in between november 2015 to current.
Very wet under passenger seat. interior fogging up during temp changes. where the air vent comes out to the back seats. also wet carpet on drivers side under dash. odor as well from ac, moldy smell. car stationary. could this short out the heater or electrical elements for electric seat as well as mildew moisture problems.
When i use the recirculate on my air condition the system develops a horrible moldy smell. this will happen after i drive using this and come back to the car after it was parked and turned off - the smell will not go away unless i stop using the recirculate button - this will not allow me to use the a/c on the coldest setting because that setting turns the recirculate button on. recent class action lawsuit approved against toyota for this. i am very worried about my health with the possible growth of mold.
The audio system when connected to usb don't respond some times. touch screen is soo cheap. in built gps responds very slowly.ex: while taking exit it says just before the exit comes. the screen some times flickers when we change to reverse when the reverse camera displays. totally not satisfied with audio and gps system. it's even more costly. 90% costumes don't use the gps in the car for real due to bad maps and software.
I just bought this car, well i was taken advantage of my situation a single mom in need of a car with bad credit.... so they tell me this is the only car i can get, it was a rental and now i find out about the recalls on the vehicle. i dont want this car.. i am paying 435.00 a month plus insurance.my god i could have gotten the camaro i wanted...they would not let me drop any warranties. they lied about alot. what can i do.... *js
Accelerating from a stop light, the car went about 30 foot or less than hesitates. the truck that was behind me did not have any warning the car was not going to move and came within inches of my bumper. it happens sometimes when you are passing another vehicle. my wife had it happen while driving on the interstate and a big rig laid on his horn because he he may have thought she had just taken her foot off the gas. when this happens your brake lights do not come on to give a warning the car is slowing down. this is getting to be a bad situation for all toyota cars. i have been on the internet to see if others were having the same problem. one place registered 124 occurrences another 98. that is just the people that registered a complaint. someone may get killed before this is corrected. this started happening on my car when the factory installed a upgrade to the computer in the car. we did not have that problem before that. i took my car in for service today and the man laughed about it and said it is a common problem. nothing can be done about it. when i returned to get the car i showed him a copy of the 124 people complaining about the problem. he said how do you think i knew what you were talking about when you mentioned it. there is nothing we can do about it.
Driver side sunvisor fell down, it hits your forehead while you drive. there was a recall on this, however my vin number does not match the vin numbers that are being recalled. *tr
Very bsd hesitation on acceleration very dangerous
Seatbelt warning light and sound started for no apparent reason. alone in the car. nothing on the front passenger seat. 2 carseats in the back. one carseat is installed via latch and the 2nd carseat via seatbelt. checked both and they are still attached as intended, nothing has come loose
This complaint is in regards to fred anderson toyota raleigh's service department. i have bought 4 cars with this dealership, three of them have had manufactures defects. every time i call, including this last time for my recall they tell me that not only do they not have the parts available to fix the recall, it will take them "at least" 30 days to get the parts available for the recall. the service department is horribly run and the fact that they don't have remedies for serious safety recalls readily available or at least on quick delivery is unacceptable. also, they told me that it would take at least hours to fix the part when it finally comes in but only offer a rental car if the fix is more than $400, which of course, since this is free of charge the consumer has to figure out transportation to make up for the fact that they don't know how to make safe cars. it is my opinion that fred anderson toyota raleigh's service department would rather put its customers at risk than fix their recall so they make it as hard as possible to get the fix taken care of. i have tried to contact manager and owner of the dealership and they both ignore my calls. one would think that after buying 4 cars with their company they would have some level of care for my family's safety. they don't! *tr
Cpsc: i1440252a. 2012 toyota camry. consumer stated after using the detail doctor, he accidentally left the rag with the product on the passenger seat. then several hours later, he came back and found thick dark brown smoke. the car was facing the sun and the mirror reflected on the rag causing a chemical combustion fire. *ln the fire dept. informed the consumer it was the chemicals in the product, that caused the fire. the consumers insurance company totaled the vehicle. *jb

I had bought this car from baron auto outlet (185 e sunrise hwy) freeport, ny. this car was paid in cash total ($14,995). the dealer sent the title of the car and the retail certificate of sale. when i went to the dmv to register the car the dmv send me back saying that the paperwork was not correct and i needed to take the papers back to the dealer so they can correct it and give me the right one. when i asked what was wrong with the papers they said the dealer should know. i have tried over and over to get the new papers from the dealer ship, but no one is willing to help me on this issue.
When pressing the brake and thn pressing the gas soon after the car hesitates for a few secongs before picking up speed. when pressing the gas after a complete stop the rpm's will go up but the car is barely moving, it takes a few seconds before it picks up speed. this is dangerous as it could cause an accident. there was a recall for this, but it still did not fix the problem.
