The dashboard gauges suddenly drop dead. abs and brake light on. a/c is getting affected. all the needles start dancing. car starts shaking and getting warm. it comes and goes. similar year cars have the same complaint. apparently it has to do with the abs module short circuiting. this is a big life and safety concern and there should be a recal please. this happens anywhere and everywhere.

Tl* the contact owns a 2009 toyota camry. the contact stated that the brake pedal had to be depressed with extreme pressure in order to stop the vehicle. in addition, the abs and brake light indicators intermittently illuminated. the contact further stated that the speedometer gauge decreased to zero, the thermostat lever went to cold, and the tachometer fluctuated to zero. the vehicle was taken to legacy toyota (3800 w tennessee st, tallahassee, fl 32304, (888) 610-8309) where it was diagnosed that the abs control module needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failures. the failure mileage was 110,000.

Not sure if this issue has been addressed, but i thought i would report my near miss. yesterday i did transmission flush on my 2009 camry. after completing the trasmission service, i had my wife start the car, so i could check the fluid level (per owners manual); my 17 month old baby boy was also was in the car. i removed the transmission dipstick and cleaned it off. as i reinserted the dipstick there was an array of sparkes coming from the dipstick. i removed the dipstick and inspected what had occurred. it appears during the process the positive terminal on my battery got slightly exposed and when i reinserted the dipstick it touched the positive terminal of my battery and was grounded by the dipstick tube. the dipstick sustained electrical damage to the areas where it contacted the battery and dipstick tube. luckily nothing caught fire during this incident, for my family was in the vehicle and the car was parked in my garage. i'm just passing my experience along. thank you,

Takata recall i never got notice that my 209 camry had a problem with the takata airbag. when checking you sight, the only place i can get it replaced is over 2 hours away from y home. i bought the vehicle new from sparks toyota in myrtle beach and should be able to get it repaired there!

Abs and brake light are on most of the time, rarely abs and brake light goes off. when abs and brake light are on, rpm and odometer go to zero, ac becomes warmer, sometimes engine cooling indicator also blinks. however, when abs and brake light go off, everything works perfectly. i took the car to dealer, spent around $350 to diagnose, they told me that i have to replace the ecm which will cost $3000. its really shocking

Problem description: 2009 toyota camry, brake light and abs turn on, rpm and speedometer stop working intermittently, and a/c also seems to work intermittently. it is the same issue shown here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rdtgabjrfds it is dangerous because you have intermittent use of your dashboard sensors. the dealership wants to replace the entire abs hydraulic system for the cost of $3000. this seems to be a well documented problem.

Tl* the contact owns a 2009 toyota camry. while driving various speeds, the air bag warning indicator inadvertently illuminated and the horn inadvertently failed to function. in addition, when attempting to park and turning the steering wheel to the left, the vehicle veered to the right. both rear tires made a loud noise, the engine shook violently without warning, and the water hose detached and caused water to leak out. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and the shocks were replaced, but the failure recurred. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 160,000.

Motor oil is burning excessively i have to check the oil every weekend and the dealer says is normal, i think is not normal to keep adding oil when there is no leak. dashboard is practically melting it was reported back in may because in the summer time it gets very sticky the dealer says it will take months or a year before they could fix it. radio has a malfunction it was replaced back in 2014 because the screen turn black and not able to turn it on or off. in 2016 the radio is having problems again for the same reason and the dealer won't replace it anymore because the warranty is finished.

At start up the gauges started to work intermittently, after a while driving down the road they start working fine after a few miles they start jumping and falling. brake light and abs lights comes on and ac quits working we haven t drive the car since this started happening called the dealer and they told us to take to service, before that i will like to know if there's a recall for that. on the last service made by toyota dealer, they washed the engine, a practice that i am not agree, does that may be the cause? let me know, thanks *tr

Abs, a/c, and speedometer stopped working. had to replace abs module/actuator for a cost of $2,156.65! car only had been driven 71,779 miles. i understand that the toyota highlander had a recall for the same issue and there have been numerous complaints about this problem on the internet. toyota will not reimburse me for this safety issue because i didn"t have the repair work done at a dealer even though the part was obtained from the dealer.

i started to back out of the parking spot at the hotel i was staying to go out for dinner with my friends, i release the brakes and put the car in reverse. then all of sudden the dash board lighted up then disappeared briefly when i put it in forward. as i was driving away from the hotel the lights on the dash board was lighted again. then as i proceed to get on the freeway the dashboard lit up with warning check vsc system. (the hotel to the freeway ramp was a block away) i was driving in the right hand lane for several miles on the 580, because i noticed the brakes felt weird. the lights on the dash board remained lighted. the red indicator light for my brakes were on indicating the brakes were not released, but it was. at this point i was tensed and scared as i drove on the 580 freeway. i exited off the freeway slower than normal and i would press down on the brakes lightly and it would jerk and rock. it would bounce myself and friends in a rocking motion. we were all scared when i told them that i was not pressing on the brakes as it rocked. i was not playing with the brakes. my friend sitting in the front passenger side, confirmed to my friend sitting in the back i was not doing anything with the brakes as we rocked while driving or at the stop signs. i was driving cautiously on the streets due to i was afraid i might rear end someone. every time i made the stop it would rock. so from the restaurant to the hotel i drove the streets and stayed off the freeway. the "check vsc "and indicators lights remained on the whole time. the following day, my husband drove out to get the car and drove it home for me. we took the back roads home to avoid freeway driving. as i drove behind him, i notice the brake lights stayed on most of the time. he too noticed the lights on the dash board remained on and the brakes were not working correctly.

I am having issues with back passenger window on driver side. i have to press the button at least three times before it rolls up. also my car consumes oil. the black, top of my dashboard is sticky and has cracks. i have been to my local toyota dealers and no one has addressed these issues. how do i get remedy before contacting legal council?

Power window master switch assembly has been re-called when i took to toyota they determined it only need to have grease applied even tho the unit is not working properly.

Passenger mirror stop responding after few seconds. when i use mirror switch to driver side again and back a can use ( up, down , right, left) for a few seconds and it stop again.

Abs light , brake light come on dashboard, speedomater stops working, rpm jumps up and down, thermastat stops working, ac stops working, i was told by a mechinic it's the abs module and can only be repaired/ replaced by the dealer.

On my way to work and another driver just rammed his struck against my car his tired ended up on top of my car it was a hard hit and i even thought i had my seat belt i my airbags did it go off at all the impact was so hard and i would like to know why didn't my airbags deployed my question is do i have any airbags that really concerned me and would like toyota to look at my car as soon as possible in my opinion my airbags should have went off i was hit by a bigger veichle and i would like toyota to take reposability since i had witness that saw the accident and testified that i was not at fault if there is no airbags in my car it's new to me because when i went to buy the car the only thing high was the mage and i was promise that if anything went wrong with the car toyota will be responsible for it. i think that toyota took advantage and was trying to get rid of the car so i got the wrong end of the deal. if i find out i never had any air bag si should no be reponsie le to pay a die out of my pocket.

Guages started going crazy and the abs warning light and brake light came on. after reviewing several comments off the internet i think that the abs module is faulty. *tr

First to fail was the speedo after the abs and brake light came on. no actual brake problem but the lack of speedometer is unsafe. abs unit essentially controls instrument cluster..not necessary or safe plus dealer repair part approx $1800.00.

The dashboard abs and brake lights came on, speedometer dropped to zero, and the tachometer jumped while on the freeway. the first reaction when seeing the brake light on was to reach for the emergency brake release and on the vehicle the release is the step type. this release is the hood release and luckily the safety on the hood did not allow the hood to open. i've reported this to toyota when i got a recall for replacement of the dash if it cracked. they told me they hadn't heard this, and i told them to go to the internet as it was there and there were youtube videos showing this condition. *tr

Recall on switch overhead it may melt and possibly result in a fire. *tr

While driving or when parked, all dashboard gauges (engine temp, speedometer, etc.) drop to 0. at the same time, the "brake" and the "abs" lights illuminate. the indicator for park/drive/reverse is no longer illuminated, and the outside temperature indicator flashes between "e" and the correct temperature. in addition, the a/c fails to cool, despite all lights/indicators on the console appearing normal (no flashing lights to indicate a malfunction.) all above issues will randomly occur - no obvious correlation to braking, acceleration, etc. at times, some of the gauges will normalize, while others remain at "0." in addition, some gauges will fluctuate sporadically, or "bounce" up/down - not indicating true engine temp or speed. the problems will all resolve at times, seemingly randomly, and then reoccur - just as randomly. i have found numerous videos on youtube which document this issue, and i have noted numerous complaints on this website describing the same problem. after several weeks (on 11/14/14), i took my car to the local dealership, describing the issues and suggesting the brake actuator had failed (as i had read from other owner complaints.) the local dealership stated that they had seen several other vehicles with similar issues, but was confused about the involvement of the a/c issue. (please note: i live in a city with a population of less than 250,000.) after several days of diagnostics, the local dealership contacted a toyota specialist in houston, tx, who confirmed that the brake actuator had failed. i paid $1932.23 for parts and labor (that's including a 10% discount) to have the issue repaired. my vehicle was with the dealership for 11 days before it was finally repaired. i am concerned that so many people seem to have had the same problem, and that a recall has not been issued for a condition affecting multiple safety features of the vehicle. *tr

Abs actuator is failing. happened right before it hit 75k miles. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2009 toyota camry. the contact stated that while driving at 30 mph, there was a loud abnormal noise coming from all the speakers and the instrument panel failed. the vehicle was restarted and the failure recurred. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 55,000. the vin was unavailable.

2009 toyota camry no power to radio and ac/heater motor fuse 1 and 2 or good relays are good please advise. *tr

The brake and abs light are on, the speedometer and rpm meter goes to 0 when i was driving at 40 mph. it also happened when i was stopped in park. the a/c also don't work. the fault is intermittent. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2009 toyota camry. the contact stated that while driving at approximately 40 mph, the abs and brake warning light illuminated and the instrument panel gauges fluctuated. the vehicle was restarted and the failure recurred. the vehicle was taken to the dealer, who diagnosed that the brake actuator needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 73,165.

On july 18, 2014 while traveling out of town, i smelled a burning while driving on the interstate. pull over at the next rest stop to look the car over and i notice the headlight cover had burned. on july 22, 2014, back in town, i took the car to toyota dealership and was informed that 51 previous bulb melted and discolored headlight housing. please note that the bulb was replaced at the dealership two months ago. i was also advised that no light is escaping from housing which may cause it to overheat over a period of time and estimate cost to replace housing - $499.75 (includes all labor and taxes). my concern is that this bulb melted and cause a burn on the headlight cover, this is a defect and consumers should not be paying for a defective part that cost almost $500.00. this requires the complete housing to be replaced and not the cover nor does it repair the problem since this can happen again. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2009 toyota camry. the contact stated that the speedometer, tachometer and the oil gauge failed. the contact mentioned that the gauges would drop to zero while the vehicle was idling or accelerating. the failure recurred intermittently. the contact also stated that the abs and the brake warning lights illuminated. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing, who stated that the brake actuator needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 35,000. djr

The brake and abs lights went on, the speedometer and odometer stopped working. i had the brakes replaced. the problem continued. i had the car diagnosed and the electrical has failed. i need to change the interior computer. cost $2,100. *tr

During normal operation of a 2009 toyota camry le with 2.4l 4-cylinder engine and 5-speed automatic transmission on the highway traveling approximately 60 mph, the speedometer suddenly dropped to 0 and the abs and brake lights on the dash board illuminated. the car did not cease normal operation and the brakes appeared to still function and the car was drivable as normal. the speedometer needle did not move and the abs and brake lights stayed illuminated for several minutes with no noticeable change in braking ability. then, the speedometer suddenly jumped back to 60 mph and appears to operate properly. at the same time, the abs and brake lights on the dashboard turned off. there were no noticeable changes in the operation of the car. that the same night, the exact same symptoms returned 2 more times just as they had occurred before with no warning at all. during one episode, the lights illuminated during a complete stop and the speedometer was inactive after leaving the stop. again, after a few minutes, the speedometer returned to correct operation and the abs and brake lights on the dash board turned off. *tr

Rear trunk release switch rubber is bad, soft, sticky and hard to open trunk with the bad rubber, only fix is to replace the switch a $70 switch for a $1 rubber? not a fix for a bad switch design. when temperature is hot the rubber is really so bad it runs and is sticky. i have also complained to toyota corp. also, no fix... *js

Abs and brake lights come on. speedometer stops working and tachometer is erratic. temperature gauge will drop to cold and a/c unit shuts off. this happens randomly throughout trips of various distance. *tr

Tl- the contact owns a 2009 toyota camry. the contact stated that while parked, the front end of the vehicle caught on fire without warning. the contact was able to safely exit the vehicle without injury. the vehicle was destroyed by the fire and a police report was filed. the vehicle was inspected by the manufacturer and it was determined that the battery had caused the fire. the manufacturer was notified of the incident. the failure mileage was 40,000. kmj

Moved to tx in 2012 and have not had any previous starting issues before moving. attempted to start the vehicle during my lunch break, engine turned over but was unable to start. attempted to start the car again and the engine cranked and started with a hard "jolt" as if the gear shift was out of position. several days later the temperature was warmer and the same problem occurred. scheduled a appointment with my local toyota dealership and was told all systems were normal and they could not determine the cause of the problem since they could not replicate starting issue. the starting issue occurs on relatively hot days, turning the key to "on" before starting does not help the problem, the second start attempt is usually a "hard" start such that it feels as if the engine is jerking. toyota should investigate electrical/fuel/and air components to determine the cause of this starting problem, especially since the issues seems to be temperature related. *tr

While driving, the speed, rpm and temperature needles dropped to zero, the brake and abs lights came on and the a/c compressor stopped working while the car was traveling @ 75 mph... the rest of the systems were working normally... after about 2-3 minutes, the above mentioned systems starting working properly again with no lingering effects on the car... but after about 5-10 minutes it happened again... and the problem started to happen in a cycle as frequently as 5 minutes but as long as 30 minutes... this will also happen while in park. the dealer replaced the pcm and still has a problem they have not been able to diagnose the problem after a week trying... any ideas? it is driving us crazy! *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2009 toyota camry. the contact stated that the air bag warning light suddenly illuminated. the vehicle was taken to the dealer. after diagnosis, the contact was advised that the wiring harness in the steering column needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was contacted and they offered no assistance. the failure and current mileages were approximately 40,000. updated 03/15/13*lj updated 03/20/13

Upon purchasing this car in/2013 we immediately had trouble with the 12 v cigarette lighters. plugging in the standard items like a cell phone or gps will only get us about 20 minutes at brst , before blowing the fuses. it doesn't matter which power point we use, it happens in each if them. the place we bought the car examined the situation three times and couldn't decipher the problem. a toyota dealership would charge over $100 just for a diagnostic check. due to this problem we don't feel safe traveling far with the vehicle, being unable to charge cell hone, gps, or safety cameras. the car is otherwise very reliable, but for a battery which suddenly died on us one very cold night. we were surprised it didn't dive a warning that it might need replacing soon. as for the electrical problem, we were told we may be able to purchase an alternative external system to compensate for the cigarette lighters, from a place like best buy. *tr

Parked car in driveway two hours later my neighbor told me my lights were on. light switch was off could not get lights to go off. called tow truck they could not get lights to turn off, so they pulled the fuses for the lights. three hours later the horn started blowing,,had to disconnect to get it to stop. took into toyota dealer where i bought it, a year ago. they said they thought it was a after market alarm system that was installed previously to my ownership. they disconnected it, three weeks later same thing started happening, except this time the high beam headlights would not turn off. take it back to toyota and now they say it is an internal electrical problem that may cause other problems if not fixed. around $825. *tr

A dashboard light came on in my toyota camry, indicating a problem with the airbags or seatbelts (the srs warning light). the service person at the toyota dealer told me the cause of the warning light was a spiral cable in the steering column. the repair cost me $499.94. a cable does not have moving parts like a brake assembly. in my opinion, a cable should not fail. i learned that toyota issued a recall of tacoma trucks because of the spiral cable. see the two sections below from a 3-8-12 news release. http://pressroom.toyota.com/releases/customer+faqs+toyota+tacoma+steering+wheel+spiral+cable+assembly+recall.htm 2. what is the condition? due to the combination of the steering wheel spiral cable design and characteristics unique to the tacoma chassis, friction between the spiral cable and the retainer in the steering wheel spiral cable assembly may occur in some vehicles. friction over time may result in damage to certain circuits that provide connectivity to the drivers air bag module. if connectivity is lost, the air bag warning lamp will remain illuminated, and the drivers air bag may become deactivated, preventing deployment in the event of a crash. 3. are there any warnings that this condition has occurred? yes. the airbag warning light is designed to illuminate when the vehicle is started. it goes off after about 6 seconds, indicating the system is operating as designed. if the airbag warning light remains illuminated after this period, please contact your local toyota dealer for diagnosis and appropriate repair. i suspect the problem with the tacoma truck is also a problem with the camry. owners should not be required to pay the cost of repairing a part that failed because of a design flaw. furthermore, there is a safety issue because, in the event of a collision, the failure of the steering wheel airbag puts the driver in danger.

My 2009 camry dashboard is melting. the leather console between seats has cracked.the electrical system keeps shorting out. all cigarette lighters/charger locations have shorted out including the aux. a week after buying my car the safety feature to lock place mat in place broke. nearly causing a car wreck as the place mat lodged in between the gas and brake. the radio, location where speedometer, clock, and service lights locations are fogged up and getting worse daily. when i took my car to the dealership about the dashboard i was told,"it was my fault. probably caused by a cleaning product." which i knew was entirely not true. cigarette lighter covers have dry rot and broken, plastic/leather has dry rot under all 4 windows leaving scratch looking marks, dry rot paint by stick shift is peeling. headlights fog up easily with water in them. i was in a car wreck a couple of years ago.when i was going about 10 mph and a vehicle ran the red light hitting the right side of vehicles front area. they were going at least 45 mph. no airbag deployed. underneath front of car is a plastic piece that keeps falling down. some days i am unable to take car out of park unless i turn the wheel,"hard". i have never received anything via mail about any recalls on my vehicle. i still live at the same address! took car to dealer again about front passenger window and driver side window not being able to roll down or up windows. i had to pay quite a bit of money to have fixed. passenger window switch is broken and still is just like drivers side was. was told" it was most likely because someone tried to break into my car." which i knew was not the case. i am very disgusted and considering filing a lawsuit against toyota. i bought a lemon car! i keep my oil changes up to date, fluids, filters, etc.i have never felt so disappointed in a vehicle purchase in my life. i'd like a full refund. *tr

My 2009 toyota camry had a window switch failure. on the main switch assembly, the switch button that controls the passenger's windows partially melted due to an apparent short. this could potentially have resulted in a fire, hence this report. please add this complaint in your current investigation about this specific manufacturing defect and will appreciate any updates on this investigation. *tr

While driving, the speed, rpm and temperature needles dropped to zero, the brake and abs lights came on and the a/c compressor stopped working while the car was traveling @ 55 mph... the rest of the systems were working normally... after about 2-3 minutes, the above mentioned systems starting working properly again with no lingering effects on the car... but after about 5-10 minutes it happened again... and the problem started to happen in a cycle as frequently as 5 minutes but as long as 30 minutes... the dealer has not been able to diagnose the problem after a week trying... any ideas? it is driving us crazy! *tr
