my driver side sun visor is not functioning and it would not lift back up. it only has 33,000 miles on the car. searched online and found a lot of complaints about the same problem. *tr

The sun visor on the drivers side of the vehicle no longer stays in the "up" position resting against the roof. the visor hangs at dangerous eye level because the spring mechanism to hold the visor in the resting position against the roof is defective. i've researched this issue online and seen several complaints. this is extremely dangerous situation in traffic when the visor suddenly falls and blocks the sight of the driver. *tr

I'm experiencing a melting dashboard that causes a such glare on the windshield that it has the effect of of us not being able see thorough the windshield as was intended by its installation. we now wear uv sunglasses in order to try to combat the glare. this melting dashboard is a safety hazard! i've sent/spoken with toyota and its dealers and they have not agreed repair or replace my melting dashboard. did i mention it is a safety hazard and has further decreased the re-sale value.

I purchased this vehicle used from savannah hyundai. i immediately noticed and was very concerned about the substantial glare that comes off the melted, sticky dashboards. which has impede the ability to safely operate this vehicles. there is a reflection off of the melted dashboard that has from time to time temporarily blind me. alternately, this may , very well could lead to an accident. also, i am very concern about the chemical smell associated with this 2008 toyota camry dashboards that seem to be melting and prematurely degrading.

My visor on the driver side was wobbling around and would get in my way of driving numerous times. one day the entire visor finally just fell off and within two weeks my passenger side visor did the same thing. this should be a recall, it impairs your driving when the visor starts malfunctioning and if the sun is out and there is now now visor, the glare could prevent a driver from seeing someone or another vehicle. toyota needs to step up and cover this issue. *tr

Due to the deterioration of the dashboard, where it is basically melting and very shiny and sticky, when driving in the direction of the sun, the suns rays reflecting off of the dash basically are a blinding factor on visibility of the driver. it is very difficult to see clearly through the windshield. i contacted toyota care center and explained the issue with the dash deterioration to them. their rep acknowledged they recognized other owners had reported an issue with the dash but unless the car was under original warranty, they can not do anything to rectify the situation. the rep also noted toyota determined the cause to be "environmental" and primarily occurring in florida, where i live. in researching other owners complaints on-line, this issue is clearly systemic. and, there are other complaints of this condition effecting visibility. has the nhtsa investigated the potential safety concern to the public due to toyota's systemic defect in 2008 and 2007 camry's they have sold? i can provide photos upon request. *tr

I am submitting this complaint, because i have had several near collisions due to poor windshield visibility caused by melting dashboard on my 2008, toyota camry. i first notified toyota corporate of the problem with the dashboard deteriorating in sept of 2012 and was told it was not a warrantied item. the first near accident due to poor visibility(sticky residue on windshield) occurred in oct, 201. i mentioned the melting dashboard problem and visibility to my dealer(ed morse toyota, del ray, fl) at my next oil change and they quoted me a price of $1760.66 to repair, sometime around oct 2012. the residue has become increasingly worse and due to my age(81) it is very difficult to clean off the windshield using standard household products. after watching a news report on wflx, west palm beach by [xxx] i called again(may 2, 2014) and was given a case number. to date i have never heard back from toyota...i am anxious about driving the car due to this obvious defect. do i have any recourse? information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

My wife's 2008 toyota camry's sun visor has broken under normal use. the visor just flops down, impairing vision while driving; the visor had to be taken down, this should not happen on a car with only 48,000 miles. this happened about august 23, 2012. this is a safety issue, and should be replaced by toyota for free, not $200+ dollars. i will not pay the dealer fee, so the problem still has not been fixed. *tr

My visor on the drivers side will not stay in the up position or down against towards the windshield blocking the sun. it seems to be defective. i called toyota to see how much it cost to replace the part. i was advised $148.00 for the part. however the previous owner had also had this visor replaced prior to me purchasing the vehicle. this seems to be a big deal with alot of the toyota visors, but yet there is no recall on this item. i would like to have this issue fixed and not at my expense as this is a safety concern. if you put the visor in the up position against the top of the car, it will continue to fall down in front of my view. if you push it forward towards the window it again will come back towards me. if i were to get into an accident, it is right at my head level and could cause severe injury. *tr

Visor won't stay up in the driver seat it's a driving hazard. *tr

Last year my passenger side visor went down with no apparent reason. i didn't think about it much, i thought it was a passenger pulled it down too hard, and i replaced it with a used visor from ebay. last week, my driver side visor broke and went down, so now i have no visor which creates a safety issue. i started looking online about this issue, and i see a lot of people complaining about this. this is definitely a design/manufacturing flaw from toyota, but i see no recall. i went to the local toyota dealership yesterday to see what they can do. they almost fixed the issue with no cost, but they said they couldn't order a new one until toyota issues the recall. now i have to wait months before they send me a letter. *tr

Driver side sun visor support failed while driving. went to tilt it down and broke loose to a point where it just hangs straight down and swings freely and completely blocking my vision. had to hold it with one hand until i was safely off the roadway. there is no way it will support itself, so i had to tape or wire it up which makes it useless blocking sun (it's purpose.) *tr

Sun visor broke with only 35500 miles on the car. driving east to work and west home is seriously dangerous without this visor, which was used under normal conditions (flipped down in the morning, up when parked and flipped down again in the evening). it's dangerous enough driving through 2 construction zones in the morning, but now i have to use one hand to shield my eyes due to the grades i drive and location of sun in the sky. this impedes my driving. i found the broken visor hanging useless after work on day and couldn't tape or rig it up so had to pull it off in order to see out the windshield! what would have happened if this broke during rush hour in construction? please do something about this problem. seems like a simple quality issue that should be fixed or recalled due to potentially dangerous driving situation. plus it's a $32,000 car and quality should be better than that of a $12,000 car. *tr

Opened door on driver side, attempted to pull sunvisor down and it broke and would not stay up. took to dealer and paid to get it fixed. now two years later same problem with the same sun visor, broken will not stay up, dangling. *tr

The driver side sun visor has dropped and will not stay in place. this is obstructing my view. it is very dangerous. it has hit me in the head. i opened it and saw that many pieces on the inside had melted! *tr

Both the left and right sun visor failed. the left sun visor fell in such a position as to block the driver's vision. i had to drive home from work holding the sunvisor up and have now taped it in the up position to prevent it from falling down again. i also had to tape the right sun visor in the up position so as not to block my field of view. *tr

Sunvisor failed. flopped down off of its mount while driving causing quite a surprise. fortunately, traffic was clear and vehicle control was maintained. *tr

The drivers side sun visor fell down while driving and blocked my vision of the road. it would not stay up and i had to tie it up to prevent it from blocking my vision. it could have caused an accident. *tr

Sunvisor has lost all tension and just hangs straight down interfering with visibility on driver's side. toyota will not assume responsibility when i called and discussed it with them at their customer service center although i have read this is a fairly common problem with camry 2008. had to remove sunvisor. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 toyota camry. the contact stated that while driving 55 mph, the driver's side sun visor broke and was hanging downward. due to the broken side sun visor, the driver's view was obstructed. neither the dealer nor the manufacturer were notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 32,000 and the current mileage was 32,100.

The sun visor at the driver side suddenly fell off and blocked the vision. it didn't stick to its original position. finally i have to take it off as it was blocking the rear view mirror. *tt

My 2008 toyota camry that i pruches four months ago with only 31000 miles, the driver side sun visor flippes down while driving blocking my view. so i took my car back to the dealer where at first they didnt want to fix the problem, saying it wasnt cover under my warrenty, but with some help from one of the manger calling the warrenty company they want ahead and replace both driver and passenger. *tt

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 toyota camry. the contact was driving 75 mph when the passenger side sun visor became partially detached and began to hang down, blocking the vision of the driver. the dealer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that there were no recalls for the vehicle. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure and current mileage was 65,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 toyota camry. the contact was driving 35 mph when the driver's side sun visor dropped downward and failed to stay in the upright position. the vehicle was taken the dealer. the dealer stated that the visor needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was not contacted. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 53,000 and the current mileage was 54,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 toyota camry. the contact stated that both sun visors fell downward and would not stay up. the contact spoke with the dealer and was informed that there were complaints on that failure. the failure mileage was unknown and the current mileage was 48,000. the vin was unavailable.

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 toyota camry. the contact stated that the driver side sun visor fractured and as a result, it was hanging and impairing the driver's view of the roadway. the vehicle was taken to the dealer who advised that the sun visor assembly needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 71,000 and the current mileage was a 78,000.

Vehicle dash started melting and became reflective. this is hazardous situation. now it is a stage when driving under sun becomes unbearable and reflection is so bad that it is very difficult to see. dash is completely melted and being poor design. dealer said it happens in 1 out of 10 cars. *tr

Driver side visor broke. the visor's suspension no longer holds visor up and its affecting visibility while driving. customer service was contacted but they refused to take care of it and want to charge $120 to fix it. there are several complaints through out the internet of unhappy customers who are experiencing the same thing. it's unfair that owners are expected to pay for a part that should obviously be recalled. toyota won't accept responsibility and refuses to acknowledge this problem. models 07, 08 and 09 seem to be the ones affected. this is a major safety issue and should be consider as such. i shouldn't have to worry about something blocking my vision while driving. *tr

I purchased this 2007 car new in late 2006. after about 5 years, the dashboard began to get shiny and very sticky. it appeared to be melting. if you touch it, it is sticky and can easily be gouged. no amount of cleaning is able to resolve the shiny, sticky mess. during the day, the dashboard has so much glare that it is nearly impossible to see out the windshield (car has a grey interior with a light grey dash) without putting a towel or dark sweatshirt on the dash to cover the glare. i have never used any chemical product on the dash. no armor all or other products were ever used. i live in southern georgia just north of the florida border now. when i purchased the car, i lived in massachusetts. i moved to georgia in 2008 and the problem started in 2011-2012. this is an extreme safety hazard due to the glare during the day significantly limiting visibility. to date, toyota denies the problem and refuses to assist in resolving what is an obvious manufacturing defect. i have seen hundreds of the same complaints on line and in various internet forums. *tr

Prior to july 17, 2010, the driver's side visor, had loosen up/broke and would not stay in place. this was a hazard and i had to have it replaced. the passenger's side visor began making noise similar to the driver's side when it first started, then the noise was louder. we received a "warranty enhance notice" where toyota motor sales, u.s.a., inc. was informing us about extending the warranty of the visors for a period of 7 years. they also stated that they would reimbursed the owners that had them replaced and we needed to submit a copy of the repair order, proof of payment, and proof of ownership. we submitted the repair order from the toyota dealer that replaced the driver's side visor which is also proof that the dealer was paid for, and a copy of the registration; no dealer let's you leave without paying or make invoices as a favor for consumers; plus the fact that they are representatives of the manufacturer. well, to our surprise they wanted a receipt on how this bill was paid. this is a tactic of the manufacturer or the consumer service department to avoid or delay the reimbursement process and to discourage consumers from pursuing their claims. the dealer replaced the other visor at no charge. the driver's side visor is begining to make the same noise as the previous one, not even two years from the time it was replaced. *tr

Under normal use, both sun visors at the driver and passenger side won't stay up. both visor stayed at fully down position, blocked vision and impacted driving visibility. (driver side visor has been replaced three times). this is a design flaw of toyota camry 2008 visors. *tr

On or around this date my driver side visor began to droop. it would slowly drop & over the course of a few months completely dropped, you couldn't put it back into its upright position, or any position & it obscured my visibility. i took it to my dealer & they replaced it at no charge because it was still under factory warranty. the guy in the service department said that the visors were breaking and that it was known. they wouldn't replace my passenger one (even though they knew it would break) because it was not broken. i tried to tell him that being the driver's side that was dangerous because i couldn't see with it just hanging there. well, low and behold, after my warranty ran out my passenger one broke. i just took it down, my husband tried to fix it but couldn't. i can't afford to replace it. now the driver's side one that i initially replaced is breaking again!!! same problem. i can not and will not dish out almost $200 freaking dollars every time one of these breaks!!! this needs to be recalled and fixed!! especially for the driver's side because that is dangerous!!! you cannot see out of the windshield when that is just hanging in the way. if you take it down then the sun is in your eyes, and that is dangerous. why is it that people cannot see that this problem makes visibility very bad or you have none at all when this happens?? *jb
