Tl* the contact owns a 2008 toyota camry. while driving various speeds, the sun visor fell down and obstructed the contact's view of the windshield. additionally, the sun visor failed to secure in place. there were no warning indicators illuminated. the dealer was not contacted. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was contacted and referred the contact to nhtsa. the failure mileage was 200,000.

On the freeway, i pulled my sun visor down and it "flopped" down and couldn't be put in either the up or down position. in the situation i was in, i had to steer with one hand while holding the visor up out of the way so i could see. i sensed this was not a safe thing to do so i just pulled the visor off completely. i'd had a little difficulty with it not staying in position before but this was much worse. i asked toyota to fix it, but instead they offered me a $750 discount on my next purchase!!! i told them that one had nothing to do with the other. i also asked them to check on line with ipetitions that had 527 signatures with the same issue. *tr

The driver's side sun visor dropped down, completely blocking my vision and no longer stays in place making it a permanent safety hazard to the point where the car in no longer drivable. checking the internet, i found out that this is a widespread problem. however, the dealer tells me that there is no safety recall for this problem. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 toyota camry. the contact stated while driving approximately 5 mph, the visor fell obstructing the driver's vision as another vehicle crashed into the front driver side of the vehicle. the air bags failed to deploy. the driver sustained back and leg injuries. the front passenger sustained neck and back injuries. both, the driver and passenger required medical attention. a police report was filed. the vehicle was destroyed. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 88,000. ...updated 12-03-14 *bf

Driving on the freeway, i pulled my sun visor down and it flopped in front of me. i had no choice but to pull it off as it wouldn't stay in position, up or down. i wrote to toyota and they refused to have it repaired, but they offered me a $750 discount on my next toyota purchase! under the circumstances, i could easily have been in an accident and consider the incident a serious safety hazard. i researched the problem and found there are many such incidents. in fact one site showed hundreds of complaints for the very same thing. *tr

The drivers side visor will not stay up. very dangerous. my husband is taller and it affects his range ov vision and plus it is annoying. looked online and see that there have been problems with the visors. i am taking it to a dealer to see if its covered under my warranty, if not, i will contact toyota directly to correct this very dangerous situation. *tr

After 95,000 miles of usage the sun visor has decided to come apart and i'm no longer able to use it to block the sun or store it in a safe manner. every passing day it seems the visor gets lower and lower until i can no longer see the road correctly. i almost have to drive holding the sun visor up. it doesn't feel safe but i don't yet have the funds to replace it. and even if i did replace it, it's only a matter of time before it happens again from what i've been reading. *jb

Re: recall power window master switch this vehicle is showing recall item not taken care of. long ago i called the manufacturer and they conference called the dealership repair shop. the shop keeps saying they already addressed this recall, but the manufacturer says it has not been resolved. the shop says i came in on a self pay basis and they already did my safety recall but the records show it was never done. to address this issue, they should just complete the service, or re do it if that's the case, (if it was already done) i have no idea if its safe to drive. if i tried to sell the vehicle or trade it in ect...its showing this service recall was never taken care of... *tr

The passenger visor no longer stays in the proper position, it flops. this happened with my drivers side about a year ago. must be made bad is all i can figure. *tr

Our family owns a 2004 toyota tundra which we love so that made us buy a camry in 2008 big mistake! ever since i bought this car new in 08' had nothing but mechanical issues and as of date 6 recalls and counting. a month after i purchased the veh they replaced my axle, brakes and then that's when the recalls starting coming in. from my visors falling to now the window recalls. my front dashboard is nasty sticky no matter how i clean it it's gross the sticky won't go away and the arms rests on the driver door and passenger sides are both rotten from the inside their cracked and broken. i don't use arm rests so they shouldn't be! the top ceiling cloth in my car fell down the 4th month i had my vehicle so my father spray glued it (how sad is that!). this was my first car i purchased brand new so going thru this after complaints at the dealership they still didn't do anything. i'm so upset i have no words left to say about this vehicle i'm driving a crap car that's falling apart from the day i purchased it. thank you toyota!!!!! unless they take care of my car situation i will never recommend toyota to anyone nor buy another toyota it's sad!!! *tr

My sun visors on both sides have messed up and now have both been replaced. my cd player also started messing up earlier this year. it says there's a cd in, but there's not. you can't load a cd or eject it. the service center at the toyota dealership told me they don't see anything jammed in there and that i would be better off replacing it with an aftermarket stereo system b/c it would be cheaper and they would have to send my car off to have it fixed. hopefully, i'm not the only one experiencing this problem and a recall will be issued! *tr

The sun visor on the passenger side will no longer stay in place. it now dangles and blocks the view of the driver. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 toyota camry. the contact stated that the passenger and driver's side sun visors failed and would not remain secure in their housing. the contact stated that the failure was caused by defective material. the vehicle was not inspected fro the failure nor repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the vin was not available. the approximate failure and current mileage was 114,000.

Driver side sun visor will not stay up because i think the clips broke, i understand that this has happened on many other toyota camry cars. *tr

My car is 2008 toyota camry le 4 cylinder. when i drive this car, the sunvisor not so good condition, loose and difficult fix it. finally it was broken when i return it normal place. it's could not fit anymore. it was very dangerous situation at that time because i couldn't see due to sunvisor drop. *tr

Driving down the road and the sun visor flopped down. will not stay in the up position. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 toyota camry. the contact stated that the front passenger's sun visor would not hold in the upward position. the vehicle was taken to the dealer. the dealer stated that they needed to replace a clip to hold the visor in place. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was contacted. the failure and current mileages were 79,000. ...updated 08-10-12 *bf updated 08/14/2012 *js

Dashboard is melting, very sticky and makes a reflexion on the windshield that make it very difficult to drive. sun visor driver side does not stay up,suddenly fails to work properly causing extremelly dificult time for driving. both issues put the life of the driver and passengers in danger. *js

Both sun visors gave way in my fairly new camry only after 3-4 years of use. i keep my toyotas 6 years usually and never had this issue. visor has always sounded like it was going to break ever since i owned it. cheap part. *tr

Both of my sun visors have broken on my 2008 toyota camry. i have only owned the car for 9 months. *tr

The sun visor for the driver and passenger became loose at no fault to the consumers and it won't stay up. when my car was in warranty the dealer "fix" the problem but it broke again. this is extremely dangerous as it blocks my view because the sun visor keeps propping back down. when i ask the dealer to fix it again, they wanted 120 dollars to fix each sun visor! reading other people complaints, it seems all the model of camry from 2007- 2011 have the same problems...yet no fix from toyota. toyota quality= declining. it seems like toyota and the dealership is making money off of defects and refusal to commit to quality control to sun visor. reminds me and others of the "unintentional" acceleration that toyota refused to acknowledges that led to deaths and injury until the c.e.o of toyota got questioned by congress. only then, toyota acknowledges the problem. in that case the acceleration would become "stuck" causing the car to accelerates. last car i would buy from toyota until the problem is fixed free of charges to all customers. honda, hyundai, ford, gm anyone? *js

Driver side sun visor will not stay up. dealership wants over $200 to repair. car only has 36,000 miles on it. it is a safety issue and toyota should repair for free. there is a defect in the device. *tr

The sun visor had been flopping down a bit for the last couple of few weeks, then it just quit gripping the shaft that keeps it in the "non-use' position -i.e. visor horizontal parallel to roof - so that it was hanging down perpendicular to the roof plane, blocking vision out the front of the car. it has not stayed up since. research online has proven to me that this is a widespread problem with these model year (and 2007 model year) camrys and they do represent a driving hazard, particularly if and when they flop down unexpectedly while in heavy, urban traffic and the like. *js

Sun visor broke and would not stay up. obstructs field of vision. this is the third time a visor has broke on this vehicle and searching online i have found that this is a common complaint with this year and model of vehicle. no undue stress was put on the visor. discussed with the parts department at toyota and they admitted that it was a common problem. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 toyota camry. the contact stated that while driving 70 mph, the driver side visor partially detatched and began to obstruct the view of the driver. the vehicle was taken to the dealer and the entire visor was removed. the failure mileage was 50,000 and the current mileage was 51,000. the vin was not available.

While adjusting the driver's side sun visor the visor broke and would no longer stay up in either position. it just dangled down and severely restricted the driver's vision. there was no way to temporarily fix the visor to make the car safe for the remainder of the trip, and repair necessitated replacing the entire visor at a cost of $140. this is a known problem with camrys and the repair cost could deter people from replacing the visor, resulting in a dangerous situation, as visibility is very poor with the visor dangling down in front of the driver. *tr

My drivers side sun visor decide to quit working while i was driving and suddenly cover my visibility. i have to stop on the side on the road and try several time to put it back. finally i frustrated remove and put it on the passenger seat. toyota should do better job on that because i was about to be involve into an accident. *tr

The clip in my driver side sun visor failed while on the interstate, creating a big safety issue. the visor would no longer stay up because a defective clip by the hinge failed. toyota refuses to repair the visor at no cost, even for vehicles under warranty. this should be a recall on those models. *tr

My driver side sun visor will not stay up. it's blocking my view and when i googled i see tons of toyota drivers since 2007 complaining about the same issue. from what i'm reading it's only a matter of time before the passenger one goes as well. unfortunately, the driver actually needs to see the road and this breaking is a huge safety issue. *tr

The drivers side sun visor is drooping & would not go up or down & stay in place. i would have to hold it to drive. i had to remove it for safety. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 toyota camry. the contact stated the drivers sun visor fell from the base and blocked the drivers view. the manufacturer was made a ware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 38,500 and the current mileage was 39,000. updated 10/3/12 *cn updated 10/04/12

The driver side sun visor dropped down all of sudden and it wouldn't stay up and makes the driving difficult. i pulled the car over and removed the sun visor then continued my journey. it is a manufacturing failure, so i suggest this issue be looked into seriously and recalled if necessary as it has a potential to be fatal if it happens. *tr

First the sun visor on the drivers side broke and it wouldn't stay up, which caused a large blind spot right in front of me and it became dangerous to drive my car. i took it into a toyota dealership, bought a new visor and fixed it. a few weeks later the passenger sun visor broke and it is causing a large blind spot when i am looking for traffic on my left side. *tr

Driver side sun visor dislodged from roof and i tried to put back is just falling back. i am very disappointed from this. *kb

Sunvisor on drivers side will not stay up which causes a visibility issue when driving. *tr

The sun visor on the drivers side will not stay up causing visibility issues, especially for taller drivers. the passengers side is starting to droop too so i know it won't be long before it goes too. toyota dealership will not replace this and it will cost $150 per side plus tax. this should be a recall, it is a safety hazard. *tr

Camry 2008 hybrid: visor slowly dropped down until finally it will not stay up. it obscures visibility and i had to take it down to drive. now the sun obscures visibility ! when is toyota going to do something about this hazard ? i can see by the other entries that this is a common problem. the dealership wants $260 just for the part, then labor on top of that. ridiculous. before this happened, the floor was wet. the dealership said it was the air conditioner tubes that were blocked. the floor was wet again after the repair. they said it the cause that time was the sun roof tubes being blocked and i would have to pay for that since it was after the warranty. so i did. had to. now there is mold under my carpeting. the dealership now wants $1000 to replace the carpet. there were multiple problems with their communication and they were not truthful. i didn't get a customer survey. how convenient for them. this is my first and last toyota. going back to ford. *tr

Driver side sun visor would not stay up/closed. had vehicle repaired. four months later passenger side sun visor had same problem. there is a vision problem with the visor not being able to be closed. two sun visor problems within months of each other. *tr

The sun visor has broken from it's mount under light usage. *tr

The sun visor on the driver side just flopped down. it startled me and i almost got into an accident. the sun visor is unable to stay up by itself, and it remains floppy and hangs straight down. i am short, and i have my seat all the ways forward and in the highest position; so the floppy visor is a visual obstruction to driving. the only way to keep the visor up is to tie it and wrap the tie around the ceiling hand holder on the driver's side. so, if i'm driving into the sun, i have to untie it; but because it hangs straight down, it blocks my total vision. the problem is compounded because i live in florida and i am constantly using my sun visor year round. *tr

The drivers side sun visor will not stay up, impairing visibility. i have been swinging it over to the driver window. this must be a design/quality problem that surely toyota can correct and replace without cost to the owners. i would like to repair it myself for now until a possible recall could be enacted. *tr

The drivers side sunvisor suddenly fell down and will no longer stay up. we have to hold it up while driving or keep it taped up which prevents us from using it while the sun is in our eyes. i have found an online forum where many others are having the same problem with their 2007-2008 camrys. others are also having problems with the passenger side sunvisor falling down. thankfully mine is under warranty and is being fixed by my local toyota dealer since we purchased the platinum warranty. this is a dangerous hazard and should be recalled and fixed by toyota immediately. *tr

Letter to the administrator from congressman israel on behalf of one of his constituents regarding the safety of the 2008 toyota camry *tgw the consumer stated the sun visors on the driver and passenger side were manufactured with defective parts. the inadequate design caused the sun visor to fall down at random times with the inability to secure it back in to place.

Driver side sun visor keeps dropping down. safety hazard since it obstructs view of the road. *tr

I had both of my sun visors break as i have read that other people have had the same problem. i was driving down the road when i needed to use the visor and it broke. this should be a recall. *tr

The driver's side sun visor mount has broken and it will not stay up. it seriously affect the visibility of the road when the visor falls at random times. *tr

The driver's side sun visor made a cracking noise, and then came down, and stayed in the down position, causing us to have to bend our heads down to see out the window and enduring the visor hitting us in the face and head. two days later while lowering the passenger side sun visor, the entire thing, with the clips fell to the floor. toyota refuses to do anything about this. there should be a recall, as this is a safety issue-because even wearing sun glasses there is a lot of glare. when the first one broke, i went to the dealer(penn toyota, roslyn ny) who told me that the car is no longer on warranty-3 years, 36,000 miles which is technically true as the car was bought in may 2008, but has 33,000 miles, and that the repair would cost $150.00. i didn't do it there, but instead brought the car to my own mechanic, railroad auto care in syosset, where it also cost $150.00. the passenger side visor has not yet been fixed-i have to decide what to do. $300 for two sun visors is a lot of money. please order a recall-the mechanic says that the clips that hold the sun visor are of poor design, and the dealer's he has spoken with are seeing a lot of this problem. this should be subject to a recall. updated ivoq 11/29/11 *tr

while driving down the highway my sun visor just flopped down for no reason obstructing my view of the road. i pulled over to the side of the road and examined the visor and noticed it would not go back up.it looks like the springs in the visor broke. i went on line and read of stories of the same thing happening in the 2008 camry..i went to the toyota of orange and the service manager[xxx] said he hasn't heard of any problems with the visor and showed him all the comments on line and he said you can get anything on line.. they would not back up their defective visor. but over all this is a major safety issue that needs to be brought up with toyota. i lost my view of the road and could of killed someone. my name is [xxx], i live at[xxx] vin # [xxx]. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

I was driving my car and put the sun visor down. when i tried to put it back up after the sun wasn't in my eyes, it wouldn't go up. after that, i tried to fix it at home and one day it just fell back down and it won't go back up. it is completely broken and obstructs my view while i am driving. when i called toyota to try and fix it they said it was no longer under warranty and i would have to fix it myself. i don't have the money to fix it and when i asked them to clarify that they wouldn't help me out with the fix even though it is dangerous to drive they confirmed and said yes. i also went to the dealership and asked the service manager. when i told him that the camry has had a lot of problems with the sun visors breaking he said yeah they do but as of right now there is no recall on them so there is nothing they can do to help people get them fixed. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 toyota camry. the contact stated that the sun visor would drop down in front of the driver, blocking the contacts view while driving. the manufacturer was not contacted. the failure and current mileage was 67,000. updated 11/17/11 *bf the consumer stated the sun visor spilt in two. updated 11/23/11
