Recently reported STRUCTURE problems on 2007 Toyota Camry

Melting shiny dashboard. purchased vehicle in october 2007, and has been garaged and driven minimally ever since. it's about to go for its 30,000 mile service. about a year ago, whenever driving during the daytime, the dashboard seems to "liquefy". it looks like it's slathered in cooking grease and is blindingly reflective. on top of the glaring visibility issues, the dashboard is becoming soft & sticky and who knows what kinds of toxins it's releasing. the dealership says toyota doesn't acknowledge there's a problem, and it will cost $2100 to replace. toyota corporate hung up on me. by searching online, i've found hundreds, if not thousands of cases of this, primarily in hot weather climates, mainly with toyota, lexus & nissan vehicles. this is an obvious manufacturing defect. a vehicle is a major purchase, and your car should not "melt". ever. i don't care how old it is, our how much it's been driven. there are many accounts of dealerships quietly replacing dashboards for some customers, or doing so after the press has been contacted. though the majority report being stonewalled, and being quoted extremely diverse rates for replacing the defective dashboard. i've seen news reports that [xxx], a west palm beach dealership owner has seen so many of these, he's gone to the media, and admitted that this is clearly a manufacturing defect and a safety hazard, and toyota & other car makers are well aware of the problem, and need to take responsibility for it. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

Dashboard is melting. dashboard is sticky. melting dashboard now has a sheen that glares into eyes under certain lighting conditions. *tr

I purchased a new toyota camry 2007, i have cared for the car well, have kept it in my garage, and do not use everyday. about 8 months ago, i noticed that parts of the dashboard were beginning to peel off. i took my car to the dealership and they told me that this was due to the heat and to not touch it. over the last four months the peeling on the dashboard has grown worse.the dashboard now looks shiny as if oil has been applied to the surface. when touched it feels sticky. i took the car to the dealership again and i was told it was due to the high temperature in florida, and that they could not fix it, because my warranty had expire. they told me that this was a common problem with toyota models manufacture between 2007 and 2010 yet they never did a recall for this factory defect. i talked to corporate and they are willing to pay half. i don't believe this is fair as it is not my fault that toyota used low quality material that has been unable to withstand heat in florida. i would appreciate if you could take some action to help address this matter. thank you. *tr

I have been driving for 11 years, i have only owned toyota's. i am extremely disappointed with my most recent camry purchase. my dashboard is completely coming to pieces!!! its extremely soft and delicate. cannot be touched in heat or pieces will come off, and deep scratches are made from the passing of a finger nail. i have never seen something like this in my life. i am disappointed in the dash board material. i take well care of my cars, washing it weekly. i will probably reconsider purchasing another toyota, i thought i was getting my money's worth...apparently im getting what i paid for. what a fail!! its only 6 years old and it looks more worn out than the first camry i ever owned! interior material is cheap. honestly considering turning in my 2007 toyota camry for a better quality vehicle. heartbreaking to see my hard earned money come to pieces before i have even finished paying for it. repairing it out of my pocket is not even an option. *jb

I own camry se 2007. dashboard of the car is starting to melt, surface is very sticky, shiny and when touched with finger it is coming off like a glue. while driving the surface is so shiny it creates very bright glare from sun light, sometimes it blinds driver's road visibility creating a potential road hazard dashboard surface has turned into a very soft material and it can be easily scraped off to expose the underlying insulation. *tr

Melting dashboard not safe. *tr

Water leaking in the headliner, causing the foot wells to be wet. the drain line from the moon roof "gutter" disconnected from the drain line pan and water drains and accumulates in the foot well. during cold weather conditions there is an extreme condensation built-up on the interior of windows. use of heater will generate high humidity in the cabin and fogging of the window. the fluid in the cabin along with the heating and cooling at night has created a problem cycle. *tr

After owning my 2007 camry for over 3 years the dashboard begun to melt. when touching the dashboard you can immediately feel the stickiness and imprints are left after a simple touch. *tr

Vehicle started from parked condition. as operator tapped the gas pedal lightly to take it out of parked condition, the vehicle suddenly had a very high speed causing loss of control and the vehicle hit a house. apparently it caused a open throttle condition. pressing brake only aggravated the condition (adding more speed) . this happened with an experienced driver with over 10 years of driving record and 0 incident (not even a parking ticket). all earlier recall were done by dealer. *tr

I own a toyota camry 2007 and the dashboard is melting and has created shiny dashboard. i have cleaned with plain water/damp cloth but it is not getting better. i have a friend who also owns camry 2007 and is facing same problem. i have maintained my car very well and this is surely manufacturing defect. on december 1st this year and i met with an accident because of melting dashboard and shiny dashboard that created glare in my eyes. thank god, no one was injured. i have also read online that many people who own toyota camry 2007 are facing same problem. *tr

The dashboard of our 2007 toyota camry is melting. there have been no chemicals used on the dashboard what so ever. it has always only been cleaned with water. the melting is pronounced more as the dashboard nears the bottom of the windshield. it is now very sticky and is completely ruined. most importantly, since melting, it has become very shiny. it creates a horrible glare of bright sunlight directly into your eyes as you drive. it is a serious safety issue and there is nothing you can do about it. it is almost like a mirror directly on top of your dash. i have contacted toyota and they will not acknowledge that this is a manufacturer's defect. they state the dash will have to be replaced at my expense. i have found numerous reports from other camry owner's with the same complaint. please help. *js

Entire dashboard is sticky/melting. you can't clean it and there is a glare. if you bump the dash, a small piece will come off. *tr

The dashboard seems to be disintegrating. the area on the front part of the dashboard (closest to the windshield) seems to be the worse, although the problem is spreading to the entire dash. it is sticky, tacky, shiny and gouges easily. this problem is creating a glare and is dangerous. the dash is basically melting. i worry about the function of the airbags. is there documentation that states the safety of the airbag is not compromised? what about the windshield? toyota needs to fix this problem. *tr

Dash board is extremely sticky. it can not be cleaned or touched with out sticking to it or gouging out a chunk of it. even in the cold weather it is impossible to clean.

Over the course of the past year, the dashboard of my camry has devolved into a sticky, shiny mess. the surface of most of the dashboard has a gluey texture, with the parts nearest the windshield having completely liquefied. the sticky areas are very shiny, causing glare that covers much of the windshield when driving towards the sun or under streetlights. this glare is very distracting and significantly reduces visibility. *tr

My dashboard is sticking. i bought my 2007 toyota camry new and have found many complaints about the same issue from other 2007 owners. *tr

I have a 2007 toyota camry that has the melting dashboard. i complained about it many times starting in september of 2012. they told me it was my fault. something i used on dashboard. (cleaning product). i knew i had not and insisted mid last year that they take pictures and submit to have it fixed. i did not get a response. last month august, 2014 8 on your side aired the story on melting dashboards. i called toyota again and they said they were sorry no one got back to me. they said they had the complaint on file, but could not explain why i got no response. a few days later they said they would fix it for just under $800.00. i feel this is a manufacturer problem and think it should be a recall. the glare it causes off the windshield makes if dangerous to drive. also melting plastic may not be good for the air quality. thank you i was in contact with clearwater toyota. they said i had 90 days to accept or deny their offer. *tr

The dashboard of my vehicle has become very sticky and shiny causing a visibility hazard due to the reflection on the windshield. the dealer advised that the only "remedy" is to replace the dashboard since i am unable to even touch the surface to possibly wipe off the shine. toyota (all vehicle manufacturers for the matter) should be charged with the responsibility of installing materials that do not become a hazard to drivers over time. *tr

Dashboard is melting, soft, and sticky to touch. due to the fact that it is melting, it has become very shiny and bright. the shiny melting dashboard creates a large bright reflection in the windshield that can't be looked at or through. this issue impairs the drivers view of the road ahead. *tr

The dashboard material has been melted and is now extremely shiny and sticky. it causes the sunlight to reflect back onto the windshield which makes visibility degraded. i would like to see a recall to replace the dashboard. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 toyota camry. the contact stated that the sun visor on the driver side fell down while driving 65 mph. the contact stated the sun visor impaired the contact's vision. the vehicle was not taken to a dealer. the failure mileage was 32,000.

The dashboard of my car is sticky and very shiny! i have found nothing that will remove the sticky stuff or the shine. the shine causes a blind spot for the driver that is very dangerous. it is on the driver's side and in the driver's line of sight. i feel that this is a problem of engineering by the company that makes the dash. they should be responsible for replacing this dashboard. it is all over the top of the dash. *tr

Toyota camry dashboard is very sticky and melting. if you press your hand or fingers against the dash board the rubber/paint will stick to your hand. even if you try cleaning it, it will stick to the piece of cloth or paper and removing the paint and rubber from the dashboard. *tr

The dashboard is literally melting away. there is a horrible, sticky, gooey substance that is oozing out of the entire dashboard. you cannot touch or clean it, and when driving in the direct sun, it creates such a reflections on the windshield that you can hardly see. i am not sure what the substance is, however, i believe that breathing it may be a health hazard. i have approached toyota on this issue several times, only to be told that they have never heard of this and that the reason the dashboard is melting is because i live in florida. *tr

At around the end of july 2012 the dash board on my 2007 camry started to get gummy and sticky. when i went to the dealer i was told that the car was out of warranty and that the dash could be replace but that it would cost me out of pocket. now my dash board is in really bad shape. this is a defective piece of equipment hows it possible that toyota does not stand behind it's product. toyota put out something back in 2011 or 2012 about this issue and the lexus brand. *js

Dashboard is melting. it is sticky and cannot be undone. bits come off in fingernails when they strike dashboard in error. very hard to clean. *tr

Dashboard is melting went to dealer on three different occasions. toyota refuses to repair or replace. this has been an issue for years. spoken to many managers in service department at headquarter toyota. *tr

The dash board is melting, causing significant glare impairing the drivers ability to see. *js

I purchased a new 2007 toyota camry in november 2006 from a toyota dealership and keep it parked in my garage when it's not being used. about two years ago, the heat of the sun began melting my dashboard. the dashboard started to look very glossy and shiny and feel very sticky, like glue. parts of it began to peel. when i am driving on a hot sunny day, the shine of the dashboard creates a glare on my windshield that makes it difficult to see the road ahead. i took it to the toyota dealership hoping that they would repair it as it is a manufacturer's defect, but they said that i would have to pay around $3,000 to replace the dash. they also acknowledged that this was a common problem with toyota camry models manufactured between 2007 and 2010, yet they never issued a recall for this problem. it's clear from this that it was perfectly feasible for them to use a different material made to withstand heat in warmer climates, but they did not. this manufacturer's defect is hazardous as it can impair the driver's vision when the glare is strong. i kindly request that the nhtsa take some action to address this issue. *tr

The dashboard of my toyota is falling apart. it is a safety hazard as it contains the passenger air bag. additionally, the glare caused by the shine is very distracting both day and night as sunlight and lights reflect and blind the driver. i believe warranties should cover anything that is a defective part and that's what this is, a defective part, if a part is defective when you manufacturer the car or whether it fails within warranty or out of warranty it shouldn't make any difference." i and other drivers feel the defect is unsafe, and shine a light on the issue with videos taken from their point of view. now we've learned the safety issues may go even deeper. "because this dashboard has the airbag inside on the passenger side i wouldn't feel safe in a car that had a cracked dash," explained [xxx]. "anything that would make an airbag go off too soon or go off too late would be very serious." information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

The dashboard is melting and has been for a couple of years. when i brought it into dealership, they said it was because of some cleaner that i used. then i found out that many 2007 camry owners are having same problem and toyota refuses to admit that they have a defected product. i am 62 years old and have never had this happen to another vehicle - and i've had other toyotas . why is there not a recall???????????????? the dealership try to pass it off as the consumers' fault when it is actually toyota's. what can i do? *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 toyota camry. the contact stated that the dashboard was melting, which produced a shine that affected the contact's visibility while driving. the manufacturer was notified. the approximate failure mileage was 50,000.

My 2007 toyota camry is very sticky and melting. i went to the dealer and they said they had alot of complaints be there hasn't been a recalled. it is a danger because they glare on the glaring reflections makes in impossible to drive at night. this is a manufacturing defect and it should be replaced. *tr

The dashboard of my car is melting and is very sticky and produces a glare that could cause an accident. *tr

The driver's side sun visor broke. the arm that goes into the sun visor came out of the sun visor. it seems that it broke the plastic inside the visor that holds it in place. this caused the visor to keep falling and not stay in place. it created a hazard so i completely removed the visor. the tab on the bar that allows the visor to snap into place has become very stiff to where it is very difficult to rotate around. the stiffness of the arm seems to be what probably broke the plastic. *tr

While trying to make a turn to take an exit to ramp, i applied brakes to slow down and take the curve but the vehicle accelerated and while controlling it i pressed on emergency brakes and brought car to sudden stop but also hit the curve on the side of the hwy. this is an ongoing issue with toyota and had happened twice before. *tr
