Problems with 2007 Toyota Camry ENGINE

On average, the 2007 Toyota Camry starts to “feel” problems with the ENGINE and its various aspects after 110 465 miles.

Recently reported ENGINE problems on 2007 Toyota Camry

Engine is consuming 2 quarts of oil every 1000 miles. i have seen that there are similar complains and its seems that dealerships know about it already. i strongly believe toyota should fix it and recall all toyota camry's 2007. i would like to get this problem fixed as soon as possible. *tr

I bought this car new and have had nothing but trouble since leaving the lot. biggest issue being in april 2012 began having issues with car burning/loosing oil. car would loose 1 quart or more with in 200 miles. have taken it to mechanicsville toyota on different occasions and had a oil consumption test done only to be told i need to replace the motor and it is not covered under warranty not only due to mileage but not being a loyal customer and not having my service work done there. my husband is a mechanic and has done all the service work by the book. my issues happen at various speeds where the car will jerk, shake, accelerate and decelerate while the abs light, traction control light comes on and the check engine light comes on and will blink well over 20 times before staying lit. i had to drive around with a case of oil in my car never knowing when i would need to add. i have had to borrow a car from my family as i no longer feel safe driving this one. it can at any given moment leave me or just stall while driving. i have kept detailed notes from going back and forth to the dealer. as you can see by the other complaints this is a know problem with toyota with the piston rings/seals, etc. even though i know my ar is no longer covered under warranty, i feel toyota being such a well known company and harping about safety should step up and do something with or without government assistance, and do something about this. i know i will never buy another toyota vehicle as they do not stand behind them. *tr

Excessive oil consumption. took vehicle into dealer with complaint of engine valve noise. dealer said no way valve problems with their cars at that mileage. left with $1800 in non-associated repairs. noticed accelerating consumption of oil. tried again to get a fix with pcv valve and all filters replaced. constantly topping off with oil between regular oil changes. wouldn't accept the fact that engine valve seals were defective. not on a toyota with less than 90,000 miles. finally did a monitoring test a month ago and realized my car had consumed 4 quarts of oil in about 1600 miles. the fix cost me about $2000. then i check this website only to find about 100 similar complaints on 2007 toyota camry's. totally unacceptable and toyota's claim in my owner's manual that 1.1 qts per 600 miles is acceptable is ridiculous. i'm checking for participation in a class-action suit. they need to "fess up" to their design or manufacturing flaw if they ever want me back as a new-car customer again. engines unexpectedly seizing up at interstate highway speeds can kill! *tr

Arrived at toyota dealership for an oil change and was told, i only had oil in my oil pan, engine was almost out of oil, toyota knows of the oil consumption problem as stated in there service bulletin. but will not honor my warranty, my car is still under warranty, toyota is tracking the expiration of my warranty. *js

i have a problem with the oil, it burns a lot of oil or engine may exhibit engine oil consumption) and there is no power at the cigarette lighter plug on both of them. my first thought was that the fuse for it must be blown. i checked the fuse box under the hood, but there is nothing broken.

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 toyota camry. the contact stated while driving 30 mph, the oil warning light illuminated on the instrument panel. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where the dealer stated that the vehicle only had two quarts of oil left. the dealer stated that they had to repair the ring sets. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was not contacted. the failure mileage was 75,000 and the current mileage was 83,000.

My toyota camry 2007 burns oil excessively. when i first discovered the problem it was because the oil light flashed on, and then back off. being on the safe side, i checked the oil level to make sure the light coming on briefly was not a fluke. to my surprise, my engine was nearly bone dry. if i hadn't checked the level, the engine could easily have seized. i brought it to my toyota dealership, magic toyota of edmonds, wa, who completed an "oil consumption check" and informed me that the car's burning of oil is within acceptable limits. a couple of days ago, i checked my oil level again. i had only put about 2900 miles on it since its last oil change and, once again, my dipstick showed the oil level to be below the bottom dot which indicates the oil is dangerously low. i again brought the car to magic toyota where they proceeded to tell me that i didn't properly read the dipstick and that their technician found that the oil level was only 1/2 of a quart below full. they made a mark with a pen on a drawing of the dipstick to show me where the oil level had been. this was entirely untrue and fraudulent! i believe toyota is covering up an oil burning problem in the 2007 camry. please help! *tr

I have a 2007 toyota camry.. i have had my recalls fixed. but now it is doing the same thing again.. the other day my brakes would not hold i thought i was going to hit the car in the front of me and my child was in the car with me... then when i start to take off it sounds like that it is trying to go into gear. and it revs up and i have took it in to dealership and they cant seem to find out what is wrong with it and of course i am at the end of my warranty. the other day it would barley pull up a hill. *tr

I was parked in a parking garage with the car running i was speaking on the phone via the vehicles bluetooth. upon ending the call i exited the car to ensure it was parked properly between the lines and close enough to the wall in front of the parking space. i then retrieved my laptop bag, coat and hat from the drivers side backseat. i put my coat on closed it up, put on my hat and extended the arm on my laptop bag. i then closed the back door and turned to retrieve items from the front seat and turn off the vehicle. as i turned to return to return to the front seat door the car flew out of the parking space. as the car passed me and the car beside me the front door swung completely open. i ran and chased the car for fear it might hit someone and also assuming i did not place the car in park. upon jumping into the moving car the first thing that hit me was the bright "p" lit up on the dash indicating the car was already in park. i attempted to apply the brakes and also constantly pushing the gear up. finally both my actions and the cars acceleration were stopped by the slamming of the car into a cement wall. while i have no recollection of the actual impact the visible signs upon my body were a large red knot over my right eye as well as scraped and bloody knees. after finally turning the car off the car failed to start up again. the incident was reported by my husband to the car manufacturer the day of the incident and while they provided us with a 60 day maximum timeframe the time has lapsed and we still have heard nothing from the manufacturer. note: mileage is approximate. *tr

Burns oil excessively. always have to add 1 quart oil between every scheduled oil change.

Hi, i purchased a brand new 2007 toyota camry in february of 2007. fast forward 5 years and 114k miles and my car won't keep oil in it. no leaks, the car burns oil! i called a friend who is actually a toyota technician and he said oil burning in the 2007 camrys is a known issue. a google search prooves it. there are tons of posts from angry, once loyal toyota owners about this same problem. toyota is very aware of the issue but they say it is "normal" for their cars to burn a quart every 600 miles so when you take your car to the dealership, they say there is nothing they can do, you should just keep putting oil in the car. writing in to corporate doesn't help either. someone needs to call toyota out on this!!! none of us know what to do to get this fixed or to make toyota take responsibility. any help or advise you could provide would be most helpful! *js

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 toyota camry le. the contact stated that the vehicle was burning more oil than usual. the check oil warning light illuminated often. the contact had the oil changed at 81,000 miles and the mechanic advised that there was less than half a quart of oil left at approximately 86,000 miles. the contact had the oil changed again and the same issue recurred. the manufacturer and dealer were made aware of the failure, however no assistance was provided. the current mileage was 92,000. the failure mileage was 86,000. the vin was not available.

Due to faulty engineering design the car is burning excessive engine oil and has a service bulletin that covers the car up to 60,000 miles only. the engine can fail at any time due to lack of engine oil and the catalitic converter will clog up and be putting out excessive exhaust fumes to the environment. my vehicle was purchased new and now has 149,000 miles on it and it burns more then 1 quart of oil every 1200 miles and its getting worse every day its driven. i know it is self destructing. toyota admits the engine pistons were not designed properly. *tr

My vehicle is burning through engine oil faster than normal, i've taken my car to two toyota dealerships, the first one denied fixing my vehicle due to a female supervisor saying that they wont fix a salvaged car, she then alerted the surrounding dealership's telling them not to fix my car. the dealership is the one in san bernardino california, i then took my car to redlands california to see if that dealership could fix my car and they said that it showed in their system that my car shouldn't be fixed.

I have been having problems out of my 2007 camry for over about a year and a half now. probably after 2-3 months of getting my oil changed, i have having to put more oil in it between oil changing. i have been to 2 different dealerships and an automechanic shop in which no one has seen any oil leaks. what i have noticed when my oil light comes on, it is harder for me to stop my vehicle. when i check my oil, it's almost nothing in there. i have seen other complaints related to this and this may be something that toyota need to look in to immediately. i did not have this problem with my 05 camry and if there is no oil leak, there shouldn't be a reason i have to put oil in my car in between oil changing! *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 toyota camry. the contact stated that he added too much oil in the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection where they advised that they wanted to run a consumption test. the consumption test was not performed and the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the issue but provided no assistance to the contact. the failure mileage was 90,000. the vin was unavailable.

Excessive oil comsumption to the point of engine failure while operating the vehicle. we have the oil changed every 5000 miles and are adding at least 4 to 5 quarts of oil between changes.

I had my oil changed about 5,000 miles previously to a moment when my oil light came on barely, and then flashed back off. i decided to check it, just in case, and found that i was totally without oil. i went to toyota and they informed me that it was simply because i had waited longer than six months to have an oil change. i got the oil change, and the problem continued. they then began an "oil consumption check" where i bring the car in every 1000 miles to see if it has consumed too much oil. at this point in my oil consumption check, after about 3000 miles, i've burned about 1.5 quarts oil, according to them. the car now has about 45k on it, and i say it shouldn't be burning so much oil. the car also doesn't start as responsively as it ought to. the oil also looks very dirty. toyota continues to tell me this is normal, but many customers are having similar issues i've noticed in online forums, etc., and i suspect toyota is avoiding taking responsibility for an engine problem. *tr

On or about september, 2011, and within warranty, my oil light came on. i immediately went to ira toyota. i had two quarts of oil remaining in crankcase. they conducted an oil consumption test, one of three, and told me that the loss of one half quart per 1,000 miles was within specs. rubbish. i then complained to toyota motor sales, usa, inc. they sent me their engineer who stated that toyota would fix the problem. they performed another oil consumption test, of course. never saw engineer again. before engineer, ira toyota offered to fix it. they claimed it was a $1,500 job and if i gave them $150.00, they would fix it. they "repaired auto" but it remained the same. and they kept the $150. they kept lying to me for a year. then, they told me that they would not honor my complaint. now, my auto uses one quart of oil per 600 miles. toyota is a fraud. they have so many complaints that they cannot financially take care of all of them. their vehicles are lemons and their warranties are worthless. (short version) *tr

While my fiancee was driving home from work on the freeway one evening in the month of september 2011, the low oil pressure light suddenly came on. when she arrived home i checked the oil level and found that it was approximately 3 quarts low (maximum capacity is 4.5 quarts). i had the vehicle inspected at a local facility, lexology, that specializes in toyota/lexus. the owner performed a diagnostic and told me it was a known excessive oil consumption with the 2az-f3 engines. he showed me the technical service bulletin (t-sb-0094-11), and informed me that it was a manufacturing defect that would eventually lead to collateral damage of the vehicle ignition and emission control system that would adversely affect the safety of the vehicle and increase its carbon footprint. i subsequently took the vehicle to the dealership where an inspection test was performed in accordance with the tsb and the excessive oil consumption problem was confirmed. i contacted toyota and opened a case number (1202062104). there were several exchanges by phone and in writing with toyota in attempt to get toyota to take responsibility and ownership of the problem. the exchanges were unsuccessful and i filed a small claims suit (superior court of california case # 13s00672). the small claims suit was also unsuccessful and i am now taking any and all action within my power to bring the matter to the attention of others. i can see by other filed complaints that this is a widespread problem. personal impact aside, this is a vehicle and environmental safety issue. i put almost as much oil in the car every week as i do gasoline. the additional emissions caused by the oil burning is being offset partially by the emission control system, but only partially, and eventually will fail to filter it out altogether. i urge nhtsa to take action and raise this to recall status and hold toyota accountable. *tr

Burns oil excessively. always have to add 1 quart oil between every scheduled oil change.

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 toyota camry. the contact stated that two weeks following routine inspection and an oil change, more than half of the oil level was consumed abnormally. the contact added one quart of oil to the vehicle and two weeks later the oil was less than half full. the vehicle was taken to the dealer. and the dealer stated that the vehicle was consuming a normal amount of oil. the manufacturer was not contacted. the failure mileage was 97,000 and the current mileage 121,000.

My vehicle is consuming oil in extreme quantities, a quart every 800-1000 miles. the problem is manufacturers defective pistons and piston rings and toyota knows about it but denies to take action. i have to fill my engine with the oil every 2800 miles or so or take it to the dealership for oil change. my engine, i'm afraid will defect in driving causing harm to me and others around me because i don't follow my mileage and only way i know there is a problem my oil light flashes on and off when i'm braking that's the sign that i have to get oil change. now its not environmental either even though toyota claims that environmental protection is coming out their ears all the time when that much oil is burned into the air and funny thing is it doesn't even smoke in tail pipe and vehicle passes every emission test. how??? i don't know. all i know is that my engine is not working properly due to no fault of my own and due to manufacturer defaulted parts because i was told by service guy that other year toyotas have different pistons and piston rings and i assume it would be right for our cars to receive those because we paid full amount for these cars and we shouldn't receive short end of the stick. i ask you to push this for a recall because toyota owns this to its owners. thank you. *tr

I noticed when applying sudden brakes low engine oil light came on but it went away when brakes were released. i thought it may be time for oil change and got oil change done shortly. that problem didn't came back till few months later. i had my oil change done from the dealer and the service was not due yet so i went to the nearby auto shop and they told me it didn't show any oil in the dipstick so they did the oil change and filled it up(no visible problem noticed). i thought i will get it inspected with the dealer on my next visit. next time when i went to dealer i mentioned it and they were too busy to check that but they did visual inspection and didn't see any problem or leaks. again after same issue they told me to come after 1200 miles after oil change but they didn't find any problem. i had to carry the oil with me just in case as the nearby auto place told me it was abnormal. i had to top it up again shortly as the dip stick showed no oil. i complained to the dealer again and they told me to come back after 2500 miles and they sealed the knob with silicon or something so it cannot be tampered with and they told me to come on weekday so they can talk to the toyota engineer. when i returned they tested it and found normal consumption and no problem found. i am still facing that problem and i called toyota hotline and they told me that they would go by the dealers opinion on that and there was no known problem on the vehicle. when i read these posts on this website then it definitely seems like a problem and now my vehicle is not under warranty either . my engine is still fine, only problem is i have to change oil too frequently. if something happens to engine in future i definitely hope toyota will cover it since they haven't identified any problem on my engine after so many visits. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 toyota camry. the contact stated that the engine consumed oil prematurely. the vehicle was taken to the dealer several times for the failure. the dealer stated that the oil consumption was not great but there was not a cause to be alarmed; however, the engine gasket was replaced. the failure was not corrected. the engine continued to consumer oil prematurely. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that the a technical service bulletin was issued for the premature oil consumption. the failure mileage was 90,818. the current mileage was 140,000.

Losing engine oil after 1000 miles . have to be a engine fault .

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 toyota camry. the contact stated that the vehicle was burning excessive oil and the low pressure oil warning light illuminated. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where the failure was confirmed. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 75,000 and the current mileage was 120,000.

I had gotten my oil changed and 2 weeks later it was 2 quarts low on oil. i took it back to see if there was a leak and they said no nothing was wrong, but from that time on i have had to add at least 2 quarts of oil every two weeks. i am afraid my motor will blow. the light doesn't come on to say it is low on oil, if i don't just check i will not know. i have heard similar complaints from others with the 2007 camry. my sister also has a 2008 i believe it is scion and she is having the same problems. i take it for the regular oil changes and a week after the oil is low and burning . *tr

2007 toyota camry. consumer states he has issues with the brakes. *tgw the consumer stated the steering wheel vibrated when the brakes were applied. *jb updated 04/23/10.*jb the consumer stated the vehicle had issues with excessive engine oil consumption. the vehicle was repaired. the consumer believed the manufacturer should be responsible for the repair costs. updated 8/1/2017*js

The vehicle it has been burn/using to much oil, at least 4-5 times a week i need to add oil. the second problem is the phone car charger outlet and the cigarette lighter it's not working, and i tried to check the source on the bottom of the steering wheel all the socket, all of them is working/not broken. and also on the tape screen, it's happend only sometimes, it's suddenly the screen goes blank and after i put the pressure by pressing down on the screen it comes back to normal again. and i just find out that toyota

I bought a used 2007 camry from toyota dealer. shortly after i bought it, the engine oil light came on. so i immediately changed the oil. but every 1500 miles after the oil change, the engine light comes on. i told the dealer about this problem several times, but they keep on saying this is normal.

Owned 2007 camry since new, noticed initially that car burned oil and thought it was part of 'break-in' period. as time went by it progressively got worse; now at 176,000 miles it's burning about half quart every1200 miles. there are no leaks and car is not smoking. i've taken it to dealer during service appointments and mentioned it, was told it was 'normal'. i also own a '94 toyota pickup with 249k on it; other than the starter which failed 3 years ago it's pretty much original. no leaks or burning oil and gets better gas mileage than the camry even though they're both 4 cylinders. it all boils down to quality control, once toyota made it to the top a few years ago they've gone downhill since. taking this car back to dealer for this issue and let's see what they'll say. never buying new toyota's again. *tr

1) front headlamps burn weak and plastic lens covers yellowed over time, latter problem of which is that lenses can't be cleaned by either commercial auto solvents or by local mechanic, creating safety hazard for driving at night. price quoted for parts alone via toyota is $818 for headlamp set, plus labor. i have owned 2 other camry models and never had any issue with headlamp obfuscation due to lens material or bulb composition. this vehicle's headlamp lens composition is filmy to cloudy to naked eye in daylight, not nearly crystal clear as when new.. even if bulbs were replaced the lens would obscure radius and length of headlamp for any night distance driving other than heavily lit streets. must use high beams at night when possible and when not hazard to oncoming drivers. even high beam distance dull. noticed while driving on highway and other cars illuminate their own pathway far better than my own. night time driving on rural, semi-rural, county, suburban or unlighted state and local highways in particular are a hazard. 2) engine has regularly burned 1 quart of oil about every 1,000 miles since car had clocked 60k miles. underwent oil test under extended recall bulletin via toyota and it deemed car within specs (time of year and type of oil can vary amount of oil burned but recommended 5w20 results in 2-3 quarts a month burned off, no leaks, 75% highway driving.). bigger issue is oil can get dangerously low (at least quarter inch below dipstick low level) and no dashboard warning light comes on. oil levels must be checked manually at least weekly and/or at fill-up to ensure oil tank has enough oil. generally have been adding 2 to 3 quarts a month. despite tech bulletin recommendations, toyota says i am ineligible for mechanical remediation. car currently runs and has 160k miles +/- on it. date below is approximate for 60k mileage..

Burns oil excessively. always have to add 1 quart oil between every scheduled oil change.

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 toyota camry. when the contact purchased the vehicle, an oil change was performed due to the lack of oil in the reservoir. the vehicle was taken to a local dealer (toyota certified at capital plaza, 6100 annaoplis road, landover hills, md, 20784) where the oil cap was taped down. the contact was instructed to drive the vehicle for 2,000-3,000 miles before a diagnostic test could be performed. the vehicle failed the oil consumption test. the contact was informed that the timing chain, piston, and rings failed and needed to be replaced. the same dealer advised the contact that the parts to repair the vehicle were on backorder; however, the dealer was able to repair the timing chain. the contact mentioned that the engine began to make a knocking noise. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the timing belt failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was towed back to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the timing chain failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failures. the vin was unknown. the failure mileage was approximately 165,000.

I purchased my car in 2007 as a mark down because it had been returned by a business but the oil leak problem was not fixed before i bought it nor was i told of the problem. soon after i bought it i noticed that the oil was low but i couldn't find where the oil was leaking from. there was no black smoke so i took it to the dealer. over and over again i took the car in and complained about the missing oil. one of the things they told me was that they never put the required amount in but always put in from one half to a full quart low. i never missed scheduled maintenance and each time i told them about the oil problem but they never fixed it. instead they always offered me some excuse. the warranty is now expired but the problem has been continuous from the beginning of the warranty. i believe the car should be covered under the lemon law. i was taken advantage of because i am a woman. i need you help because i am at wits end and i don't think i should have to be worried all the time and always have to carry spare oil in my trunk. *js

I am concerned with the oil consumption. i had two test outcome failed i have stated shortly after purchase in dec 2006 that car used oil. i think that i should be compensated for the numerous quarts of oil that have been wasted due to a flaw in this engine type. the time to repair is way too long. on average i have to add a quart a week that's a lot of oil since 2007. the people at toyota need to speed up the process to have this issue fixed.

We bought this brand new 2007 camry from dealer back in 2006. it has been maintained through toyota dealers (longo toyota most of time) since then. in jan 2012, the engine sounded abnormal. we took it to the dealer and was told that there was oil "leaking" and the car was out of warranty. we paid out of own pocket to fix the "oil leaking" as suggested by the dealer, but the oil still keeps disappearing after around 2000 miles' driving. now it is getting worse and worse, i have to check oil level and add 1 quart every 500 miles! *tr

My car has been burning up oil since i have purchased it in 2006. i have a 2007 toyota camry and have been recently researching this excessive oil problem. i have had no letter from toyota about it, but i see that the toyota dealers have gotten a bulletin about this. when i actually noticed the problem it was because my car was making strange noises and i decided to check my fluid levels. my oil light never comes on to make me aware that my car is low on oil. then i check the dipstick to see that it is dry!!! my car now has 154,000 miles on it and the problem is getting even worse. i have had to add a quart of oil ever 400 miles. this is not new to me since i buy oil constantly and check my dipstick every other day. i just recently called a toyota dealer to get my car in for an oil consumption test and they told me that i need a copy of all my receipts from every oil change? i don't understand the reasoning behind that. also i have made different dealers aware of my problem and i have even sent an email to the toyota corp. now that there is a solution to the problem you have to be in the warranty period?!? i have had to also replace my cat and 4 months later my engine light comes on and it is reading the same cat code when i had it checked. i am wondering if the excessive oil burning is actually clogging my cats.
