this car has burned a quart of oil every 1000 miles for the past seven years. recently received a tsb from toyota on this issue and as instructed, took it into a toyota dealership. i was shocked to learn from their staff that toyota was considering replacing my engine if it did indeed burn a quart of oil every 1000 miles. i mean come on---the car has 180k miles on it. never the less, i was impressed with the idea. they "sealed" the oil cap so no one could tamper with the oil level. they informed me that they had topped off the oil level. i put another 1200 miles on it and returned the car as instructed, to allow them to "perform a detailed test to determine if the engine was consuming a quart every 1000 miles. i checked the oil dipstick the morning i took the car back to toyota. it was a full quart low on oil. interesting, but toyota performed their test and advised they would contact me. did not happen. a month later i called the dealership and they informed me the ca had burned 7/8 of a quart and as it was less than a quart, i was basically sol. all said and done, i was not expecting a new engine. i was expecting to leave feeling i had been treated fairly and professionally. the net result is that i have made two totally unnecessary trips to the dealer just to be informed toyota does not and will not do anything....becauset their test indicated the car failed to meet their criteria by 1/8 of a quart. gee...it was aquart low when i took it in, but wait...(i must be an idiot and blind. you.think they pulled the dipstick out and kept looking at it until they saw what they wanted to see?? i had been considering purchasing another toyota product but this experience has demonstrated to me why i should never consider toyota. i liked their camry, but they failed to appreciate my honesty and demonstrated a lack of impartial decision making. adios amigo. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2007 toyota camry. while attempting to drive the vehicle, the contact heard an abnormal noise coming from the engine compartment and the vehicle stalled. the contact was unable to restart the vehicle. the check engine and oil pressure warning lights previously illuminated. the vehicle was towed to an independent mechani, who diagnosed that the engine needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 140,000.
I was driving the camry when i reached a complete stop my check engine light came on, didn't really notice any change, two days later i notice gas consumption has increased. i took the camry into dealer, dealer diagnosed the check engine to be a faulty o2 sensor. replaced o2 sensor and drove off to pick up my kids from school, as we are driving home, i came to a traffic light, i stopped and check engine light and abs light came on idle was disrupted briefly. i proceeded and when trying to stop car the brake pedal had become very tight to were i had to stomp on brakes with all my might to get car to stop. drop kids off at home waited 15 minutes and started vehicle, abs light was off but check engine remained on, brake pedal was almost back to normal. i drove car to dealer again, the dealer said it is a faulty brake booster which is allowing too much air into system which in return signals for more fuel to be pumped to compensate vacuum leak. brake booster not covered under extended warranty, and very costly 1,363.16 parts, labor and taxes, not counting the 4 day rental. this concerns me because i believe this to be a safety issue, if it were my wife driving the camry with my kids she would not be able to stop the vehicle without any warning. toyota needs to make this a safety recall before something tragic happens. i looked at toyota forums and it seems i'm not alone, brake booster for several other toyota models have gone bad, after 100,000 miles some at 70,000. 2007 toyota camry seems like a horrible guinea pig car. *tr
No oil on dipstick, engine oil light came on whenever vehicle came to a stop. took more than two quarts of oil to bring it to correct level. *tr
Excessive oil consumption between oil changes.
Excessive oil consumption
Excessive oil consumption. 1 qt every 1000 miles, that's 5 qt per oil change going into the environment.
Abs and brake light comes on and the odometer an tachometer stop working or go up and down wildly at the same time the air conditioner blows hot air. also excessively burning oil 1 to 2 quarts per 1000 miles.
Excessive oil consumption was noticed in this vehicle around december 2014. the dealer refuses to deal with it considering 1 quart for every 1,000 miles is normal. *tr
Vehicle leaks or burns oil in excess from unknown location or undisclosed location by manufacturer. no oil visible on ground underneath car . engine was not getting adequate lubrication due to this problem and thus caused engine failure. vehicle was no longer able to accelerate on freeway and had to be pulled over putting vehicle owner at risk and other drivers on road in danger. the engine is now damaged and is unable to be repaired despite proper maintenance and recommended oil changes as per dealership and owners manual. the engine now has to be replaced. this leakage has been reported by over hundreds of unsatisfied customers and has purposely been disregarded by manufacturer despite the numerous complaints received and made by 2007 toyota camry owners. many of which suffered like this owner and had to pay out of pocket for a new engine despite this being a manufacturer defect that has been neglected. *tr
This engine has high engine oil consumption, there is no visible leaks, no blue smoke indication, and oil lamp keeps going of on stops and acceleration. when that happens is because the engine oil is low, even after regular oil changes at mileage and dated recommendations toyota do have a history of this in late 90' with v6 models due to oil sluggish and appears it's happening again. this is also safety concern cause the vehicle might ceased during operation and can cause an accident on our national highways. also it is believe that this is manufacturer defect issue and toyota needs to rectify. *tr
For many months i have been experiencing excessive oil consumption soon after car being serviced. less than 2 weeks oil has depleted. causing engine not to start or stop in the middle of traffic than can cause a major accident or a possible fire because no oil. therefore affecting other parts of the car eventually. toyota has released extended warranty and knew about this matter for a few years now. but are telling its customers they are working on putting part together to replace those parts at their expense. however, as customers, we have not received dates of when our vehicles will be fixed.
Tl* the contact owns a 2007 toyota camry. the contact stated that while driving at approximately 60 mph, there was an abnormal noise coming from the rear of the vehicle and an unknown warning light illuminated. in addition, the contact stated that there was a loud bang sound and smoke appeared under the hood. the vehicle was towed to a dealer, but was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 127,000.
Unit jerks and stalls, burns oil .some times white smoke comes from the tail pipe . oil has to be replaced constantly after oil change , recommended weight 5w20w is used. i have had to replace burned spark plugs. this is a problem and needs to be on a recall list. *tr
Hi, i am disappointed with toyota. on september 23rd, 2014 my "oil pressure light "came on, and then again on 09-26-14. i always regularly serviced my car at the toyota dealer. at first i said "ok it's time for an oil change", but the miles that i used so far it was not ready to be scheduled for an oil change yet. i immediately knew that there was a problem with my car. i did some research and learned that i was not the only one having this problem. i don't have a couple of thousands to pay for the repair; especially since this is not my fault. is toyota planning on paying for this defect for their loyal customers? Tl* the contact owns a 2007 toyota camry. the contact stated that the engine was consuming an excessive amount of oil. the contact stated that the engine would consume a quart of oil every 750 - 950 miles. the vehicle was not repaired. the contact received a notification for an unknown manufacturer campaign related to the failure; however, the parts needed to do the repairs were unavailable. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 117,000.
Earlier this year, my 2007 toyota camry started producing some whitish smoke when starting the engine. more recently, the engine began sounding noisy when accelerating - more of a rattle or clacking than a knocking sound. i had it checked out and the mechanic didn't see any leaks, but mentioned that it could be engine components that were machined properly and started to show as the car got more mileage. while traveling on the highway a couple weeks ago at 70mph, my car started to lose power and the engine was sounding worse and worse. i managed to get to the shoulder of the highway just before the engine sputtered and died out. when i tried to restart the car, there was a loud banging and clanging in the motor and the motor then died. the mechanic said that my car had thrown a rod and it shredded the motor. my options were: 1) rebuild the motor from dealer parts - $8-9k! 2) have a rebuilt motor installed - $6-7k! 3) have a salvaged motor installed - $5-6k! options 1 and 2 didn't make much sense as that would be very close to the current blue book value. i had my car towed to my local mechanic and managed to get option 3 done for $4500. still a lot more than i was hoping or needing to spend. both mechanics mentioned that they had seen a number of 07 camrys with motor problems, including one very recently that was the same as my damage. the salvaged motor i had installed was at 59k miles and i'm really hoping that i don't have similar problems. this makes me very concerned for the quality of toyota cars. *tr
2007 camry ce, problem started with car having 75k miles. car now has 102k miles. oil consumption is increasing. now consuming 1-2 quarts every other week. there are no oil leaks any where. no leaks underneath engine, on top of engine, and any where visible or at all. no oil leaks! but oil is required regardless every other week! car is stationary when oil is checked. cause of problem (i am told by dealership mechanics that oil consumption problem is caused by "bad" rings in the engine). the dealership mechanic say they see that problem often with the year, model, and make of car. no paperwork provided.
I purchased my 2007 toyota camry in july 2006, new. at approximately 50k miles, when turning corners my engine sounded like it was stalling, the accelerator did not work, and a "low engine fuel" warning came on. i took my car into the dealership and was assured by the dealership that there was nothing wrong with my car. this same incident occurred at least 7 times since and each time i was assured by the dealership that there was nothing wrong with my car. my car was still under factory warranty, and then my extended warranty when these incidents first occurred. i'm now at 108k miles. for the past two weeks while driving and turning corners, the "low engine fuel" warning displayed briefly. since the dealership previously assured me that nothing was wrong with my car, and my car had 2k more miles before my next oil change, i continued to drive my car. then on sunday, june 25th i decided to have auto zone take a look at my car. to my utter surprise, there was absolutely no oil on the stick when the auto zone guy checked my oil levels. i purchased two quarts of oil and the auto zone guy put the oil in my car. the following saturday i took my car to my usual toyota dealership and explained my experience. the service advisor informed me that my piston is probably worn out and oil is probably leaking into my engine, which would be a $4k repair cost. as i stated to the service advisor, at any moment my car can conk out while driving, because oil is leaking into my engine and the only time a warning appears is when i turn corners. if i'm driving on a highway where speeds are in excess of 80 mph, and my car conks out because oil is leaking into my engine, that is a huge safety concern. a service technician who overheard our conversation stated, "yeah, the engines on those cars are a piece of junk." toyota refuses financial responsibility. *tr
The car consumes oil excessively. more than 2 quarts low after 1500 miles. *tr
I purchased my 2007 toyota camry 3yrs ago, this car burns so much oil, i keep my oil changed but in between oil changes i continue to add an additional 3 qts, i have inquired about this problem on several occasions to the car dealership (louie herron) in milledgeville ga, to express lube but no one seemed to tell me why my car was burning so much oil. it was not until this weekend i took my vehicle back to the dealership is when he advised me my particular vehicles engine needs rebuilt but is not considered a recall, i'm trying to get to the bottom of this, it is very frustrating as a woman to buy a vehicle from a dealership an later (3years later) find out the engine is shot, the dealership is aware but "i" was left in the dark.. *tr
Own a 2007 toyota camry with 69,000 mile which has heavy oil consumption, one quart every 3,000 miles approximately. toyota says this is normal oil consumption. filed complaint with toyota usa, complaint number cr21044. they said i was the first complaint concerning this problem. the car has no oil leaks. toyota knows about the problem because they issued tsb-0094-11 bulletin. would like for the nhtsa to investigate because in all toyota camry 2007 forums this is a common problem among owners and nothing has been done. at some point in time this is going to cause major damage to the vehicle about a manufacturing defect that toyota is aware of. if they were not aware of problem why did they issue tsb009411? *tr
Our four-cylinder camry le with 141,000 on the odometer was just diagnosed with "low-end bearing noise," meaning the engine has sustained major damage and needs to be replaced. this happened after a very "hard start" that sounded like the engine had no oil in it. a very disturbing sound. we have run this car on synthetic oil (and top-rated oil filters) since the first oil change, and almost all the 141,000 miles on the odometer are highway miles in the mid-atlantic. i maintained the fluid levels without fail, even when the engine began consuming inordinate amounts of oil--a frequent complain about 2007 camrys. we have driven this car gently, never exceeding 75 mph. no racing, etc. one would expect to get at least 200,000 miles from a camry engine run on synthetic oil. the dealer and two additional service centers have no explanation for what went wrong. bad things happen, they say. a remanufactured engine costs about $6500 for removal and installation, so we clearly are less than pleased. *tr
My 2007 toyota camry has been blowing blue smoke since i bought the car back in 2014, which i purchased through a dealership. after anytime i start my car after sitting for a couple of hours it will blow blue smoke each time. i get my oil changed way more often then i should to try and prevent the smoke, i check my oil once a week, and no matter what i do it continues to blow blue smoke.
Car has been using 1 quart of oil every 500 miles since 2014
My car was purchased used in 2009. i've kept up with the maintenance and other issues such as the engine coils going out. today, my car stopped as i was driving on a busy street. no, there wasn't a crash but there could have been. the car is a 2007. luckily i stopped in front of the toyota dealership. i found out that my transmission went out. it went out with no warning prior to today. i was told it would cost $4200 to repair. i don't have that kind of money. i'm still shocked that the transmission died. i purchased a toyota because my previous car, a chevy, was giving me so many problems. when asked why would it just die without warning...i was told it just did. there's no way of knowing. i'm not understanding that when i go for regular maintenance. *tr
Engine coils keep going bad had it replaced at the toyota dealer and continues to fail. i was driving on the highway when all of a sudden as i pressed on the acceleration it would only reach 30 mph, and my car felt like it was going to shut off. i almost crashed due to that incident not to mention it continues happen. i can not afford that nor any harm to my children. the passenger side seat belt is locked, and unable to use. i had my power window also failed to work on some occasions i have to manually push it up. i so love my toyota but there are also 8 other recall to which i can also relate to.
The car began to burn oil rapidly between oil changes. dealer claims no knowledge of cause and recommends complete engine replacement. *tr
In early 2014 our 2007 camry 4-cylinder was getting a general look over. it was discovered there was barely any oil touching the tip of the dip stick. we immediately had the oil changed by a local mechanic. i then stated to him that the dip stick was showing a tiny amount of oil on the tip of the stick and that it surely had no oil. he then told me that when it was drained it did have some oil remaining. it almost seems that the dipstick does not properly measure the oil. i did some research on the matter and discovered that there is a growing issue involving oil consumption on these engines across numerous models. it also seems bizarre that they state in the owners manual what toyota considers normal engine oil consumption: 1 quart per 1,200 miles. if the car only holds slightly over 4 liters and the service intervals are 5,000 miles it seems pretty off that they would call that normal. since the discovery of the oil usage we've kept a close eye on it and are adding oil every 1500 miles. recently i have been noticing a light blue tint to the exhaust when the car starts and when i drive behind it going up a hill. issuing a recall would certainly not help toyotas recent recall history and it would be a expensive thing to fix on so many effected vehicles but at this point toyota needs to be told to recall them. they need to act with integrity. *tr
The toyota camry xle consumes a lot of oil over a 1000 miles distance. more than a quart. i have seen many posts online about this being a problem. toyota posted a bulletin in 2011, but that is them trying to call major oil consumption by the engine 'normal'. this is causing a problem for the environment and for drivers, as they can be on the highway or streets and have their engine go out. *tr
After every 1,000 i need to add a quart of oil. in between oil changes, every 4,000 miles, i need to add 4 quarts of oil. where is this oil going? i don't have any oil on my drive way, garage floor, or anywhere else. i always take it to toyota to get it serviced and they cannot tell me where it is going either. dont understand what's going on. toyota has no answers for me. i have had several toyota camry, but this is by far, my worse experience with a toyota. very dispointed and need this resolved soon! *tr
Burns oil excessively. always have to add 1 quart oil between every scheduled oil change.
Driving on highway, heat gauge spiked suddenly. while trying to bring the vehicle to stop and pull to the shoulder , engine is lost. i had the vehicle towed to a toyota dealer and was told that engine was lost due to water pump failure. they estimated $ 6,000 cost for a replacement engine. six months and less tan 5,000 miles before the incident, toyota dealer offered $11,000 for the vehicle during the oil change service. vehicle was always serviced at the toyota dealer. six months before the incident, i was told by the dealer that (when dealer offered $11,000), there might be a slight water leak, but, it is a known issue, and therefore, keep watching the coolant level. i kept watching the coolant level as they told me. coolant level was normal before i started to drive right before the incident and within 50 miles of driving engine was lost. it was within an hour of checking the coolant level. *js
Vehicle has been maintained at two area toyota dealers since purchased. maintenance intervals were closely adhered to, and no problems were ever reported by the service people regarding engine performance or oil consumption. during a december 2013 vehicle service at an authorized dealership, service technician reported that the oil pan seal and the valve cover gasket needed to be replaced due to oil leakage. i (owner) inspect vehicle frequently, and knew this was not the case. between vehicle servicing dates, i checked the oil and found it to be too low to register on the oil dipstick. i added the grade of oil indicated on the oil fill cap and made an appointment at an independent certified auto shop. i also inspected the engine frequently for leakage at the oil pan and valve cover, and observed no oil leaks.the independent certified shop inspected the vehicle, and found no signs of leakage. the independent certified shop performed the routine service, including oil change, and provided the toyota 2011 service bulletin that described the excessive oil consumption and toyota's own suggested repair. this lead me to research the engine, and i found that this is likely a significant and widespread defect that toyota identified as early as 2008. as a commuter, i fear the excessive oil consumption could lead to premature engine wear, resulting in catastrophic engine failure. *tr
Tl * the contact owns a 2007 toyota camry. the contact stated that while driving 70 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic. the technician was unable to diagnose the failure. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 140,000 and the current mileage was 148,000.
My 2007 camry is consuming around 3 quarts between 3000miles oil change intervals. this consumption is quite high by any standard. my car has always been maintained in a timely manner. if we changed the oil every 5000 like the manual said i would have a car right now because it would have ceased up the engine. this makes me very unhappy and not very safe for me or my family. at this time we are not able to get a newer/different car.
Started my car, noticed oil lamp came on then off. proceeded to drive and oil lamp light flashed again. oil light came on at least a total of 5 times. came to traffic light, came to a soft stop to observe traffic before attempting to turn right. car then shut off and all indicators were on, such as, battery, engine light, oil light, and air bag. i proceeded to restart car. no problem with restart, oil light never came on again. i took car to toyota dealership service department to find out why vehicle shut down and due to fear! toyota employee told me they would do a diagnostic on my vehicle free of charge to find cause of shut down. please note, i did an oil change oct.15, 2013 and nov 18, 2013 car shut down! after arriving at a toyota dealership to have my car checked to find out why it simply shut down, then all of a sudden there was no time to do a check to find out what caused my car to shut down without warning. the manager gave me a very simple reason as to why and what caused it to shut down. manager told me i have an oil leak inside the engine of my car. manager stated i didn't have to buy a new engine, but i needed to do a 100-500 oil dip stick check. why was the dip stick down to nothing in the first place? why was there no oil in my car? technician never put oil in my car. toyota is responsible for damage to engine as a result of their mishandling of vehicle and making false statements regarding me. toyota is responsible for stress on of my toyota 2007 camry engine. my life and that of others at risk because of toyota.. *tr

Vvti oil line rupture 2007 toyota camry w/ v6 engine we purchased this new at a local toyota dealer. my wife is the primary driver w/ myself as the only other occasional driver. the vehicle has received regular maintenance although not at the dealership where purchased. vehicle, at time of incident (11-15-13), had 50,893 miles. when my wife returned home from shopping she saw a trail of oil up the driveway and into the garage. the oil trail appeared to begin down the street near our home. when we restarted the engine, oil gushed from the passenger side of the v-6 engine. i checked the oil level and it was about 1 1/2 - 2 quarts low. our toyota uses no oil between oil changes. oil had sprayed all over the passenger side of the engine, the undercarriage, and some of the exhaust system. an internet search revealed a vvti oil line problem with certain toyota vehicles w/ a v-6 engine. a short rubber section of external engine oil line would leak or rupture. ours ruptured with-out any warning lights or alarms. the next morning we had it towed to the dealership where purchased and they repaired and verified that the problem was the vvti oil line. they told me that the repair was not covered by toyota and we had to pay. i found out toyota did have a lsc 90-k phase two campaign that did cover this but it had expired. we were unaware of the problem. i called and complained to 2 levels of toyota then wrote the office of the president torrance, ca. but they all said letters were sent out and the campaign had expired march 31, 2013. the president's office did offer a limited refund for future parts or service at toyota dealers. this problem still exists and toyota should not have an expiration date for repairing this serious problem. this problem can cause fires and ruin engines. fortunately we only lost a small amount of oil and that shouldn't have damaged our engine. *tr
There is excessive oil consumption for my car. i have noticed that i have to add 5-7 quarts of oil in between oil changes because about 2000 miles after my oil change my oil light comes on. i check the oil and the stick is bone dry meaning it is very low, almost empty. i have to add a few quarts of oil and then it happens again. i do this until i need to go back to get my oil changed again. this is an issue because i purchased this vehicle based on the reliability and driving my two children around daily it makes me nervous knowing that if i do not stay directly on top of this my engine could blow. *tr
As i was driving my 2007 camry, the car just cut off. prior to cutting off, the battery light flashed and the care hesitated. i waited a few minutes and it crank back up but sputtered. then the car ran fine. also, the car is burning a great deal of oil. *tr

I'm returning home from work and driving on a freeway with 60mph limit. i remember driving at 45mph and maintained a very good distance from the vehicle in front of me. the vehicle in front of me tried to slowed down and that prompted me to apply the brakes. all of a sudden brakes failed and couldn't control the car to stop. the car just skidded and hit the van with big force. luckily the vehicle in front of me is a shuttle and no passengers injured. engine and front part damaged very bad and i myself hit my face to the steering wheel. i cut my lip and hit on my nose very bad. i still recovering from injuries. though the crash is so bad, air bags didn't deploy and resulted injuries on me. the police and others who tried to help me wondered why the air bags didn't deploy. all these days i'm trying to recover from the injuries and couldn't send this complaint over. i got the website reference after checking with my insurance company. could you please help me on this? thank you in advance. *tr
I am one of many complainants that have excess oil consumption with this car. i am using at least 1 quart every 1,000 miles. *tr
I purchased a 2007 toyota camry new in 2007 ( this is my 5th toyota) and religious follow the suggested maintenance toyota recommends. after approximately 50 k miles the engine started burning oil and the engine became very noisy. the car currently uses about a quart every 1200 miles. i took my vehicle to the dealer and they said there is no problem with the engine. from what i read on the safercar.gov, edmunds.com websites and the consumeraffairs.org website there is a design problem with the engine as acknowledged in toyota service bulletin t-sb-0094-11 issued 8/11/2011. http://www.rav4world.com/tsb/2011/t-sb-0094-11.pdf . basically stating ?the piston assembly needs to be changed? (of course as an original owner of this engine and vehicle i was never notified).i can see by other filed complaints that this is a widespread problem. personal impact aside, this is a vehicle and environmental safety issue. i put almost as much oil in the car every week as i do gasoline. the additional emissions caused by the oil burning is being offset partially by the emission control system, but only partially, and eventually will fail to filter it out altogether. i urge nhtsa to take action and raise this to recall status.. *tr
I was driving my toyota camry se 2007 with my family in the car,we were in the freeway and for no apparent reason it caught fire , it is a complete loss.. *tr
Our 2007 toyota camry has been burning more oil than manual specifies. we began to check oil level once a week, due to low amount of oil. in september, 2013, we had blue smoke coming from the car. when we checked with mechanic, he asked if 4 cyl or 6 cyl. he had done so many repairs on this make/model/yr, he could diagnose the problem over the phone. he had to replace the valve seals on the engine, at a cost of $1400. i wrote to toyota corp with no luck in getting reimbursement. i believe safety is an issue with this vehicle, due to oil shortage. *tr
My 2007 toyota camry with miles of 127,000 that is burning oil about every 1000 miles driven on it. the car is taken care of oil is changed every 3000 miles. it does not leak. i do not understand why so many people are complaining on this matter and nothing has been done to fix this problem. i have owned 3 other toyota's and have never had this problem before on any of them. if toyota knows about this problem why is this not been recalled. i have also been told by a toyota mechanic that the 2007 toyota's do have bad blocks in them and toyota is not doing anything with this problem. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2007 toyota camry. the contact stated that the pulley for the water pump failed and caused the serpentine belt to fail as well. the contact stated that the vehicle did not over heat prior to the failure. the pulley was rattling and making noise prior to the failure. the vehicle had not been taken to the dealer. the vin was not available. the failure and current mileages were 74,000.
The engine was making a rattling noise, especially at start up and acceleration. i took the car to the dealer and was informed that the engine needs to be replaced and that the car is unsafe to drive, as the engine might seize up. fortunately, i caught it before that happened. toyota has a service bulletin out on this issue t-sb-0094-11; they knew there is a problem but never notified vehicle owners and the local dealer never performed the inspection test called for in the bulletin. in addition, there have been a number of complaints filed on this with nhtsa and hundreds more posted on the internet. there are two safety issues: engine failure while driving and toyota's disregard for safety, by not informing owners of the issue. *tr
