While my son was traveling to school the vsc light came on the warning panel. at that time the brakes were hard to operate and took a few seconds to reengage and the brakes locked up bringing the car to a skidding stop. after a minute the lights went off and he was able to travel again, but the same incident happened again the next morning taking my other kids to school when the roads were icy! this is a situation where someone will be killed behind faulty equipment being ignored by toyota on the 2007 camry hybrids. *tr

I bought this car new and have had nothing but trouble since leaving the lot. biggest issue being in april 2012 began having issues with car burning/loosing oil. car would loose 1 quart or more with in 200 miles. have taken it to mechanicsville toyota on different occasions and had a oil consumption test done only to be told i need to replace the motor and it is not covered under warranty not only due to mileage but not being a loyal customer and not having my service work done there. my husband is a mechanic and has done all the service work by the book. my issues happen at various speeds where the car will jerk, shake, accelerate and decelerate while the abs light, traction control light comes on and the check engine light comes on and will blink well over 20 times before staying lit. i had to drive around with a case of oil in my car never knowing when i would need to add. i have had to borrow a car from my family as i no longer feel safe driving this one. it can at any given moment leave me or just stall while driving. i have kept detailed notes from going back and forth to the dealer. as you can see by the other complaints this is a know problem with toyota with the piston rings/seals, etc. even though i know my ar is no longer covered under warranty, i feel toyota being such a well known company and harping about safety should step up and do something with or without government assistance, and do something about this. i know i will never buy another toyota vehicle as they do not stand behind them. *tr

I took the 2007 camry with about 67,000 miles to the repair shop because of a squealing noise: the rear rotors were worn out completely and the rear brakes had to be replaced at a cost of $459.00. after the repairs, the car began to shake violently when the brakes were applied. sometimes it would pull to the right and it would be difficult to move the steering wheel back to the left. on april 5, i took the car to a dealership where the front rotors had to be machined at a cost of $85. the front brakes were okay. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 toyota camry. the contact stated while driving 60 mph he attempted to slow down and the brakes failed when they were applied. the brake warning light illuminated while the failure occurred. the dealer performed a diagnostic test that located the failure was caused by contaminated brake fluid. the dealer replaced the brake fluid, and flushed the brake lines. the vehicle was not repaired, because the dealer could not explain why the brake fluid was contaminated. the vin was not available. the failure and current mileage was 117,000.

I would like to request that the nhtsa to investigate a serious failure associated with the brake systems on 2007 toyota camry cars. on tuesday 9/6/11, the brake pedal on our camry went to the floor and the car did not slow down while my wife was driving it. she had to hit the brakes again when the pedal came back up in order to stop the car before hitting the car in front of her. this has been a frightening experience for her and we can not figure out what has gone wrong. when i checked the level of the brake fluid in the reservoir it was at its normal level between min and max. out of safety concern for my wife and son, i took the car to the toyota dealership so that the could identify the root cause of the problem and fix it i felt that they would be the best choice. i did not want to take a any chances by taking it to a lower cost repair shop. after having the car at the service center of the dealership for the whole day, i was told that they could not find anything wrong with the brake system. they said that the brake pads are fine and that they still have 60% life remaining on them, there is no brake fluid leakage anywhere and that they have driven it and they can not make the same failure to happen again. the service advisor's input was that in case the same problem happens again just apply the emergency brake. i picked up the car from the toyota dealership on wednesday night, and i drove it myself for a few miles and i did not notice any problems with the brakes either. this incident has left me and my wife puzzled, concerned, frightened and worried that the same failure could happen again with an unpleasant results and that other toyota camry users may experience a similar problem. please conduct a full investigation of this problem and advise as to what the root cause might be. we are the first owners of this vehicle and it has never been in an accident. *tr

Sudden unintended acceleration on august 25th 2011 at approximately 1:00 pm, my dad was driving to garvey ranch park located at (781 s orange ave, monterey park, ca 91755) as part of his daily routine. he had already pulled into the parking lot and was getting ready to park his car facing north bound. all of a sudden the car accelerated out of nowhere and hoped the parking curb still facing northbound. in order to avoid any casualties and prevent hitting any of the children near the playground, he was able to steer the car and made a u-turn at about 150 degrees. at this point he was facing south bound of the parking lot and the car continued to accelerate at high speeds. his car then hopped the curb on the south side of the parking lot. once the car hopped the parking curb on the south side, it continued to hop over a couple of raised concrete blocks that delineate a path onto the hillside just south of the parking lot. due to the steepness of the hill, it prevented the car from going any further and the car crashed in between two trees located on the hillside. we had already taken the car to longo toyota due to the acceleration recall back on march 13 2010. i couldn't believe the car still had mechanical issues after we had it serviced it for the recall and was glad that my dad did not sustain a very serious injury. the car is available for inspection if an nhtsa official would like to inspect the car. *tr

I have a 2007 toyota camry lxe. a driver decided to move into my lane from the left, to avoid a serious collision i had to swerve to the right and hit the brakes. my anti-lock brakes locked and i had no control over the car as we skidded across four lanes and hit a concrete wall. the air bags did not deploy and the seat belts (which were in use) did not lock us in. my wife hit the inside ceiling and the right window of the front door. i tried to find an attorney to go after toyota but could not find one who had the guts to stand up to toyota. there was over $14,500 in repairs and as of today they are still putting the car back together again. *kb

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 toyota camry. the contact stated while driving 35 mph the speedometer, air conditioner, and the brakes all malfunctioned. the contact took the vehicle who was unable to diagnose the failure. he contact took the vehicle to a second dealer who stated the brake actuator had malfunctioned and caused other electrical components to fail. the contact stated this was a major safety issue that could have caused a crash. the vehicle was currently at the dealership. the failure mileage was 102,000.

2007 toyota camry. consumer states vehicle has a very loud screech from the rear brake on the passenger side *tgw the dealer informed the consumer there was trash on the brake shoe and it would eventually wear off. the consumer stated it has been 4 1/2 years and the noise is still present. *jb

I noticed when applying sudden brakes low engine oil light came on but it went away when brakes were released. i thought it may be time for oil change and got oil change done shortly. that problem didn't came back till few months later. i had my oil change done from the dealer and the service was not due yet so i went to the nearby auto shop and they told me it didn't show any oil in the dipstick so they did the oil change and filled it up(no visible problem noticed). i thought i will get it inspected with the dealer on my next visit. next time when i went to dealer i mentioned it and they were too busy to check that but they did visual inspection and didn't see any problem or leaks. again after same issue they told me to come after 1200 miles after oil change but they didn't find any problem. i had to carry the oil with me just in case as the nearby auto place told me it was abnormal. i had to top it up again shortly as the dip stick showed no oil. i complained to the dealer again and they told me to come back after 2500 miles and they sealed the knob with silicon or something so it cannot be tampered with and they told me to come on weekday so they can talk to the toyota engineer. when i returned they tested it and found normal consumption and no problem found. i am still facing that problem and i called toyota hotline and they told me that they would go by the dealers opinion on that and there was no known problem on the vehicle. when i read these posts on this website then it definitely seems like a problem and now my vehicle is not under warranty either . my engine is still fine, only problem is i have to change oil too frequently. if something happens to engine in future i definitely hope toyota will cover it since they haven't identified any problem on my engine after so many visits. *tr

I owned a 2007 camry le. on 3/05/11 my brakes failed while on the highway. i careened across the highway and then the car started flipping. the car flipped at least 3 times before hitting an exit sign. the exit sign then pierced the roof of the car and landed between my legs. thank god i wasn't seriously hurt. but through all the flipping across the concrete, my airbags did not deploy. my complaint is brake failure and lack of airbag deployment. *tr

S10 appropriate handling- letter to the secretary from regarding concerns about toyota safety *tgw the consumer stated the accelerator and brake pedal were designed too close together. *jb

Drove slowly at around 25mph in a very cold day (16 degree). when i stepped on the brake to stop the car the brake was in a locked position (can't pressed it down) and my car hit the car in front and there was nothing else i could do.

Tl*the contact owns a 2007 toyota camry. while traveling 60 mph, the contact applied the brakes and noticed that the vehicle suddenly turned right. seconds later, the contact lost control of the vehicle and crashed into another vehicle. there were no injuries. a police report was filed. the vehicle had not been inspected or repaired. the current and failure mileages were approximately 81,000.

The brakes shakes excessively when braking at speeds around 60 - 70 mph. shaking transmits to steering wheel if front rotors warp and sometimes shake body of car if rear brakes warp. shaving rotors fixes the problem everytime. occurs approximately every 30,000 miles. these rotors warp very easily. they are too thin or of bi-metallic construction which can cause differential growth of metal, thus warping rotors under high heat loads. besides keep cutting into your expensive rotors, only solution is to go aftermarket. new toyota rotors will be made the same and will warp the same. high performance rotors will work even better. but holes and slots will be hard to shave locally. it is usually front rotors that warp first, but it can be back rotors at times also. everytime you shave them, they get thinner and warp easier the next time (less heat dissipation capability). only permanent fix is aftermarket rotors. i am an ex-mechanic and current mechanical engineer. *tr

Toyota camry 2007 - persistent vibration steering at highway speed - not being resolved by a series of attempts such as balancing, tire replacement, alignment, brake component replacement. the steering vibration was part of a toyota service bulletin but despite the specific instruction on how to fix the problem, the vibration was never eliminated. lately, vehicle also showing vibration when braking - also at highway speeds. brake repaired at dealer without results. toyota dealer has provided no further resolution option. the concern is if this is a result of the original steering vibration with the vehicle showing further deterioration. *tr

I had a weird system lockup (may be abs lockup)/shutdown issue when driving the 2007 toyota camry (recall service done already). i was driving the car slowly and took exit (20-30 mph speed) from nj-turnpike and heard a strange sound and the car ran loose so i applied a little brake as it was on a turn (exit). the car suddenly locked up and spun around and i was not able to control the car. and the driver side back tire hit on a curb and halted in opposite direction. i called up cops and didn't switch off the ignition. then cops helped me to take the car thru the exit and it was running normally after that. but i am hearing some oozing sound when the car is running 40-50 mph and > 60 mph speed from there on. i went to dealer/service and they are not giving any clue, and said no issues with diagnosis. i've given the car again today as they were not having the time to do the test drive yesterday to see what the problem with the strange sound is. the incident was scary and could have been a fatal/crash. it was very lucky to escape without any injury or car damages as there was no car/truck behind me for few seconds. my wife was shocked to see it happened as we were travelling with our 18 months old kid. *tr

Twice in 24 hours, right after i had routine maintenance performed at the dealership, when i stepped on the brake of my 2007 toyota camry le the abs kicked in. i brought it back to toyota but they cannot find the problem. i rode with the technician but could not duplicate the problem. this situation is dangerous and frightening. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2007 toyota camry. the vehicle was previously serviced for the recalls associated with nhtsa campaign id number 09v388000 and 10v017000, vehicle speed control, accelerator pedal. upon receiving the vehicle from an authorized dealer the contact stated that he felt the vehicle vibrating while driving approximately 35 mph and the vibrations got more violent when pressure was applied to the brakes. the vehicle would also began to move to the left and right while pressure was applied to the brakes. the vehicle was taken back to the authorized dealer who stated that the failures were normal while the vehicle was adapting to its new computer. the vehicle was not repaired and the failure continued to recur. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer again who stated that the brakes needed to be replaced. the failure and current mileages were 90,600.

Warped rotors on 2007 camry at approx. 13,000, again at around 50,000 miles and again at 68,000 miles. repaired under warranty first time, i paid the second time, and toyota says i must pay again the third time. are others having similar problems with the braking system? toyota ref. number is [xxx] ref number with toyota is [xxx] on 6/22/10. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

I have a camry 2007 xle with 36k miles. i started noticing some brake pulsation when brakes applied at high speeds, over 60 miles per hour, specially on downhills. this sensation started appearing at around 34k miles. the steering did not vibrate at that time. i took the car for service for its 35k miles. two days after the car was serviced i had a long drive and started noticing steering wheel vibration, some times more vibration than others. all when brakes applied at over 60 mph when applying brakes moderately to strongly. i called the dealer and i said that the car started vibrating after service. he said, they don't remove brakes or rotors when they do minor service to the car. i asked what the problem might be and he said that the rotors might be warped. they would perform a rotor resurfacing and possibly pads replacement, despite the pads looked over 7mm, quite new for replacement. i have read a lot of camry complaints with warped rotors. the dealer said rotors cannot be replaced under warranty because the 3 year warranty has expired. i am upset because rotors should be not warped at 36k miles and specially when pads look in pretty good shape. estimated job would be around $260.the car feels unsafe when breaking now. toyota should look at this quality issues and offer replacement. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2007 toyota camry. while driving at 30 mph, the contact stated that it was very difficult to get the vehicle to come to a complete stop. she had to re-adjust her seat to be able to engage the brakes. the contact inspected under the hood and noticed that a bolt had dislodged from the engine mount and had punctured two of the brake lines. the vehicle was at the dealership at the time of the complaint where the brake lines were being replaced. the current and failure mileages were 53,035.

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 toyota camry. the contact took the vehicle to the dealer for routine maintenance when she was informed that the front and rear struts were leaking. in addition, the sun visors would not remain upright and was impairing the contact's view of the roadway. the dealer advised the contact to replace the struts. the manufacturer was made aware of the issue but failed to offer any assistance. no repairs were performed. the current mileage was 40,000 and the failure mileage was 20,000. updated 04/19/12*lj the consumer also stated the brakes would squeal when they were applied. the dealer found the front rotors were glazed. updated 04/25/12

While driving the car at approximately 30mph, when i pressed the brake pedal, the car would not stop. the gas pedal got stuck. i put the car in neutral and pressed the power button. when i restarted the car, the brakes and gas pedal worked appropriately. *tr

Rear disc rotor and pads failed at 49,500 miles, when the front brakes still have about 60% remaining. it is unexpected at this mileage, to need repair/replacement of brakes on the rear. it most likely would not be found/repaired causing insufficient braking and improper handling in an emergency stopping situation. we were fortunate that we requested our brakes be checked by our local repair facility. car had been at dealership 04/05/2010 without mention of brakes needing attention. *tr

2007 toyota camry. consumer states he has issues with the brakes. *tgw the consumer stated the steering wheel vibrated when the brakes were applied. *jb updated 04/23/10.*jb the consumer stated the vehicle had issues with excessive engine oil consumption. the vehicle was repaired. the consumer believed the manufacturer should be responsible for the repair costs. updated 8/1/2017*js

2007 toyota camry. consumer requests a refund based on the consumer discontent with purchasing a vehicle under false pretenses. *tgw the consumer stated with all the problems going on with toyota, the consumers wife doesn't want to drive the vehicle. in addition, there was a problem with the brakes where they made noises when applied. the dealer inspected the brakes three times and stated there was no problem. *jb

I was driving for work with my toyota camry 2007. while accelerating to get on the highway, around the end of the ramp, my vehicle suddenly accelerated with no controls working from the driver's seat either for the steering wheel or the brake. in a matter of a few seconds, the vehicle went a few times in a zig-zag manner and subsequently hit a semi-trailer which was southbound on the highway. my car was completely smashed in the front and totaled later. this incident occurred after my car went through the accelerator pedal replacement as per recommendation of the toyota recall procedure. i could have been easily killed in this accident. i got a traffic ticket for the first time in my life after having a ticket-free driving record for the past 11+ years. i am pleading 'not guilty' for this ticket because the defective toyota car was responsible for the accident and not my error. *tr

When applying brakes, it vibrates strongly, almost violently, at speed above approximately 40 miles/hour. when raining or not. when taken to the dealer, they stated it was normal abs braking. it does scare me in that i am afraid that it could lead to a major failure in the braking system. it has been a continuous problem although i entered today's date below. *tr

My 2007 toyota camry accelerated on its own. brakes were applied and it would not stop my car. i then struck the car ahead of me.

I own a toyota 2007 camry. i almost ran into a car in front of me when stopping for a light. coming up to light, while braking i hit a bump and the brake pedal went towards the floor. i release the brake and pressed it again and it worked. another incident occurred recently while driving down an icy slope. i was braking and there was a horrible grinding or snapping type noise. as i was very scared i would have an accident while this was happening i did not notice if i lost brake pressure. i called the toyota dealership where i purchased the car and explained the above and was told that this was normal with the brakes that are installed on the camry. i am concerned for my family's safety. *tr

I own a 2007 toyota camry and when depressing the brake pedal if going over a bumpy road or raised cracks in the street (essentially going from any "smooth" to a sudden "non-smooth" surface) the brake pedal becomes locked, then springs back and forth and the car lurches forward. i took it to the dealership many years ago and they told me i needed new pads. that didn't solve the problem and they've never acknowledged the problem exists. *tr

In snowy road, toyota camry 2007 car fails to stop with the brake and it feels like as if something is sticking between brakes. this car have abs system installed so don't know if it is supposed to behave like that. however my other car which runs on drum brake performs better than the toyota. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 toyota camry. while driving at approximately 40 to 50 mph and attempting to brake, the vehicle would shake violently. he also observed there was an increase in stopping distance when braking. the vehicle had not yet been diagnosed by the dealer. the failure mileage was 38,000 and the current was approximately 40,000.

Brakes failed to respond while traveling approx. 40 mph - brake pressed, went to floor with no response, brake pedal pressed a second time, car still did not decelerate. abs did not activate. vehicle is a 2007 toyota camry. front-end collision, striking vehicle stopped ahead on roadway - airbags did not deploy in camry. total of 4 cars involved in accident. camry sustained extensive front-end damage, insurance adjuster estimate at approx. $7800. no serious personal injury involved. *jb

Brakes first began to vibrate/shutter when braking at 18,000 miles. toyota replaced brakes pads and machined the rotors. at approximately 43,000 miles toyota again repaired the brakes for the same problem. at 70,000 miles the rotors exhibit the same symptoms of having warped rotors that will again have to be reworked or replaced. continuing problem that must be a defect on the vehicle. the vibration and breaking when traveling at higher speeds is increased and feels very dangerous. *tr

I bought a 2007 toyota camry new. in april 2008 the steering wheel, front tires and the entire front end began to shake violently when i applied the brakes at speeds above 60 miles per hour. my mechanic said the problem was that the front rotors were warped. i had it fixed. on january 27, 2010 i am experiencing the same problem again. this is serious. loss of control at speeds above 60 mph is very dangerous. *tr

On 26th jan, on the way back home in the evening i was on 105 fwy headed east. the time was around 7:50 pm. the traffic was there since it was a rainy day. i tried to apply brakes on my toyota camry 2007 xle model. i didn't experience the brakes taking effect and the car hit another vehicle at around 20 - 25 miles/hr speed. now the car is being repaired as we speak. it might take about 10 days to fix it i was told. *tr

My 2007 camry acceleration has not failed to stop accelerating, but it has been slow to engage. this has made crossing intersections or blending with moving traffic difficult. i have taken the car to the dealer, and they "rebooted" the accelerator mechanism. i have also had an issue with the brakes making terrible noise when backing up. i was told that was just because the car had been setting. i was later told there is a technical bulletin regarding the brakes for the model, but since i am out of the warranty period there is noting i can do but ask for a repair. i was also reassured the noise was not a danger signal, and there was not a safety issue. based on what i have heard the last few weeks, how can i be certain? when i said i had been driving for 50 years, and have never had a car that made this kind of noise, the dealer representative said "i had been lucky!" note my dates are on or about. *tr

While driving my 2007 toyota camry and exiting off the interstate, i attempted to stop at the bottom of the ramp before turning onto the highway. the brakes were applied but car never came to a complete stop which forced me to enter onto the highway without regard to oncoming traffic. luckily the right lane was clear and i was able to avoid an accident. the car was taken to the garage that day so they could work on it the next day. the problem was diagnosed as a bad brake booster which would need to be replaced at a cost of approximately $600. the brake failure happened with no warning. the only thing i ever noticed prior to this happening was that sometimes there would be a swooshing sound on the drivers side. *tr

Rear brakes required repair at low mileage despite limited wear on front brakes. apparently rear brakes are adjusted to handle large amount of braking load which could result in uncontrolled slide. *tr

I bought my 2007 black camery from longo toyota in elmonte, ca about less then seven months ago. on august,30,09 my mother and i were driving and when she went to step on the brakes there was little stopping to the brakes we slid and herd a air sound come up from the driver side. took it into the toyota dealer they said that the brake booster is bad... can that we should not drive it at all very unsafe. the dealer is saying that it is the customer who need to pay to repair this. which is almost 2000 to be done, we would like to have deft investigation done, this is not a wear and tear. thank you *tr
