We have classified the 93 complaints from 2007 Toyota Camry about ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING into the following categories.
I bought a 2007 camry in june of 06. the car was manufactured in kentucky. the front and back brakes have squealed almost from the first day and i started reporting the problem at the first dealership service. both tsb's have been applied but did not fix the problem. a technician finally heard a squeak and anti squeaking lubricant was also applied but only lasted a week. left the car at the dealership last monday night and the district person came tuesday. the response was they could not reproduce the squeal so could not fix the problem. of course they squealed twice on the way home. i see i am not the only person with this problem. i also had the transmission problem and fortunately the tsb fixed that problem. then the black wheel rims under the hub caps rusted horribly and the dealership had to replace them under warranty. never thought i would have these problems with a new car. *tr
During driving or in a stop light the warning lights of vcs system lights up without any reason and then went to normal. i've noticed then that this usually happened when some weighted vehicles passed beside mine that caused a rough road movement or some high loud. one time passed just before a routine checkup (oil & filter). i called back to the service and told me that it was a resetting of the car system.???? this has passed for a few times every year but this time the warning lights still and it shown a diagnosis with abnormal leak in the accumulator which i've told that this should not be happened in an hybrid model. *kb
The car hesitates un-expectantly when trying to accelerate. this is an on going problem and is random. several times this condition has nearly cause an accident. dealer cannot fix problem but acknowledges it is a problem. *tr
Toyota has a repair for the hesitation problem in the 2007 camry i know this because mine was repaired by my dealer and it only took 30-45 minutes i threatened with lawsuits to toyota and my dealer took care of the problem so if your dealer tells you that the drive by wire is made to hesitate etc. they are feeding you a line . *tr
When the car is idling (i.e. at traffic light, in driveway, etc...), the cabin fills with the exhaust odor. it seems as if the exhaust fumes fill the inside of the car, even with the windows up. *tr
The engine often hesitates for several seconds when i step on the gas. this often happens when i am rapidly accelerating to enter a freewayor simply pulling away from a stop light. this is a dangerous situation as i need the car to accelerate to enter fast moving traffic but i cannot count on the engine to rapidly speed up. after several seconds of hesitation, the car then accelerates too rapidly. i have had an issue with this car since i have owned it and have been given every excuse in the world as to why the vehicle performs in this matter from the computer has to "learn " your driving style to that is how toyota made the vehicle. they replaced the transmission and rebooted the computer and still the problem. i also had the vvti oil line break and dump oil and had been driving like that for over 100 miles-i had replaced the regular oil with synthetic oil -toyota replaced the line and used the exact same kind of part that had failed when i requested they replace it with the upgraded part i was told that it was not a warranty part replacement for the failure and if i wanted them to put the other part on they would but the car would not be covered under warranty because of the non specified part being put on the car, lets hope it does not fail again. two issues one ongoing one not fixed with the upgraded part--shame on toyota!! *tr
I bought a 2007 toyota camry xle 4cylinder in august 2006 and 4 times it has ran out of oil. the dealership does not know why this is happening and has me bringing in my car every 500 miles to check the oil levels. *tr
My 2007 toyota camry v6 is burning oil excessively, all symptoms indicate that the oil skimmer ring is installed upside down in two cylinders. the vehicle is smoking ones in a wile but a lot. mostly after driving longer distance on freeway or in the morning after startup, sometimes after left turns the oil chokes the engine at some point, causing it to stall and throws excessive amount of smoke. i found other consumers with similar problem in canada with the same model and similar age vehicle. the vehicles have low mileage between 8,000-3,0000 supporting the possibility that it may be manufacturing defect. toyota refused to cure the problem under warranty because i didn't keep my receipts of my maintenance. i think a trainee is responsible for the wrong installation of the piston rings and may be more out there. *tr
Rotten egg odor in the cabin. when the car is accelerated, a very strong odor invades the cabin of the car. we have to lower the windows to vent out the odor. toyota claims that this type of odor at the exhaust is caused by too much sulfur content in the gasoline, but the problem is that the odor is getting in the cabin. i understand that the gasoline has to pass certain standards and that the vehicle should be able to cope with any type of gasoline sold at us and it's territories. *tr
When parking on the driveway in front of the house the vehicle surged forward with enough throttle to put skid marks on the ground and proceeded to ram into the structure. the cause of the incident is unknown as the vehicle was not expected to "run into our house." when power toyota of cerritos service department was notified about the situation they denied an issue existed with the vehicle. numerous managers were spoken to including the shop foreman. they stood by the denial. when the issue of the 2007 toyota tacoma sudden throttle surging problem was brought up, management finally came out to the vehicle to take pictures of the damage cause by the collision with the structure. *tr
Terrible hesitation problem in general acceleration and overall lack of engine power in 2007 4 cylinder toyota camry. vehicle purchased new 09/12/07, currently has 6,000 miles on odometer. a toyota tsb was performed at dealership. did not correct problem. this is a scary situation, especially when attempting to maneuver in entrance ramp interstate traffic and and instance when instant acceleration is required. this vehicle is driven daily by my wife, and we are both fearful and concerned that something bad will happen because of the lack of satisfactory performance of this camry. *tr
Going through a car wash caused the cabin filter to fill with water. air could not pass through vents. vehicle smells foul inside. dealer says using car wash is not recommended and should avoid driving in hard rain. no attempt to repair was made. my camry is not weather-proof! *tr
My 2007 camry xle 4 cyl/auto have 2 powertrain problems. 1) the engine has an excessive "oil consumption" problem. it burns a qt. of oil every 1,000 miles. twice in the last 10k miles a warning alarm came on, followed by a"low eng oil pressure" light. each time we found almost 2 qt. low-verified by dealer, who can't find any external leaks or smoke. after a lengthy 3rd visit to the dealer for extensive testing, they returned my car without finding the problem. toyota-engineering has no idea how to fix this problem either, so the dealer can only check/add oil weekly-indefinitely. 2) the transmission does not respond when entering/merging freeways. i must endure near-misses almost daily because the car won't go whenever i stump on the accelerater, causing me to have nightmares of being rear-ended on the freeway. this car is not safe and the manufacturer can't fix it! *jb
For the past yr the car shakes between 45-35mph when slowing to brake, rotor replaced and brakes replaced. also a/c system smells of urine 80% of time, lastly engine when braking and depressing gas to accel. jumps and is unsafe. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2007 toyota camry. whenever the contact decelerates from 20 mph and then begins to accelerate, the vehicle stalls for 1-5 seconds before accelerating. the vehicle was taken to the dealer and the contact was informed that the failure was a characteristic of the vehicle and would repair itself over time. the failure still persists. the current mileage was 37,000 and failure mileage was 23,000. updated 09/10/08. *lj updated 09/16/08. *jb
Own a 2005 toyota camry le-v6. poor acceleration!!! dealer played it off as it's a computer throttle so it takes time for throttle and engine to communicate!!?? so in other words live with it. very fearful on highways as the car doesn't accelerate to keep up with passing or merging vehicles. hard to take off from complete stop without hesitation. very unsafe. no recalls at this time. hopefully there will be since i am not the only one with this issue/complaint!! *jb
Tl*the contact owns a 2007 toyota camry. while driving 50 mph, the engine hesitated and the vehicle jerked when attempting to accelerate. as of august 10, 2007, the dealer has not inspected the vehicle. the failure mileage was 9,900 and current mileage was 10,000.
From almost the first day i purchased the vehicle i have had hesitation ( appx. 1 to 3 seconds) while accelerating. the vehicle has a four cylinder engine. i now see that this seems to be a common problem with the 2007 camry. *jb
2007 toyota camry hesitated when accelerating i have been told by toyota thiswas normal and all camrys do this i have driven others and they hesitated but in an emergency situation . this was very dangerous it made it hazardous to enter freeways i was told a hesitation of 1 to 3 seconds was normal i have seen this same complaint from other owners in other states, and feelt this was a serious safety problem. *ak
2007 toyota camry 4 cylinder. fails to accelerate properly. cruise control operates poorly and surges. *jb
We have a 2007 camry xle and the car surges when the cruise control is on and going up a hill. if the cruise is set for 67mph the car has a about 2300 rpm. going up a moderate hill, the car downshifts and goes to 3400 rpm. it then surges to 4700 rpm which puts the drivers head into the head rest. the issue has been going on since we bought the car in may of 2007. we called our local dealer(topsham, maine lee toyota), and they said it was what the computer was programmed to do. i asked again the 1st time i had it in for service and received the same response. it does only happen with the cruise control on, so we have learned to shut off the cruise control going up any hills. we have a 2nd issue with our 2007 camry which toyota refuses to fix. if the rear defrost is turned on while the radio is on, the radio goes dead. the radio antenna and defrost wires are in the same window, and one is shorting out the other. i was told that since no fire occurs to turn off the radio while the rear defrost is on. i have read many similar issues on the internet and told toyota such. *tr
2007 toyota camry, very sluggish on takeoff and stalls on occasion, this happens on a regular basis. *tr
I bought 07 camry from local toyota dealership in 2007. from the start i've noticed the car was consuming oil. there is no trace of leak anywhere but was taking oil. without much thought, i would add oil as needed. as the mileage start to rack up, the problem is too obvious and it is getting worse. at the beginning, i did not know how much oil was being consumed. then i stared to use ticker oil hoping the problem would go away. it did not and i am still using ticker oil (5w20 to 5w30) oil consumption problem, i think is progressively getting worse. the car now has 65,000 miles and late last summer (2011) i've seen oil adding every month (about every 1,000 miles). local dealer said a quart every 1,000 miles is normal. service manager is saying that toyota stated the consuming a quart every 1,000 mile is normal. so go complain to toyota corp is what they said. i felt like i was talking to a brick wall. dealership said i should go through oil consumption test, which i stated the process in december of 2011. they had put in half inch above the full mark on the dipstick, which i would have though they would have noted this. after i come back after 1,000 miles, oil consumption was there but they claim 1/2 quart in 1,000 miles. not considering how much they have over filled or had any idea of that fact. i started looking into this in web and also learned that dealership uses additive to not consume oil in consumption testing. i cannot win over dishonest experts at the dealership. this is a serious problem. i cannot sell this car as i am not about to lie about the oil consumption to a buyer. who would want to buy my car that consumes a quart every 1,000 mile. i can tell a buyer "this is normal in toyota standard"; would a buyer understand this? toyota is trying to turn away their problem onto their customer. *tr
Camry 2007 se v6. acceleration problems, hesitates at take off, transmission slips like its searching for a gear, smell from a/c. engine ticks when i take off and don't let it warm up even though its warm outside. had problems with tires, had them replaced. loud road noise car not very sound proof. feels like steering wheel "sticks"for just a second long enough to scare me like someone is holding it. *tr
Throttle and transmission hesitation when starting out from stop, and when attempting to increase speed, ie: hazard avoidance, followed by speed overshoot. cruise control over reacted to slight grade increase, such as an overpass, by down shifting the transmission 1 to 2 gears and accelerating past set speed by 7 to 10 mph. car will slow to set speed and repeat the down shifting and acceleration until the cruise control was turned off or the road was leveled. during long up hill driving the cruise control has to be turned off completely as it presented a great possibility of causing an accident. the dealer maintaied s that the engine, transmission, and cruise control operated normally. *ak
Tl*the contact owns a 2007 toyota camry. when decelerating to stop and then attempting to accelerate, the vehicle hesitates for approximately two to three seconds. the vehicle was taken to a dealer, who stated that they are aware of the failure, but do not know how it can be remedied. the current mileage is 5,725 and failure mileage was 1,225. updated 02-01-08. *kb
2007 toyota camry se v6. the car has hesitated numerous times. generally it happens when i am stopped or need to accelerate quickly to merge into traffic. it has hesitated several times after performing a turn and trying to accelerate after the turn. the hesitation generally lasts between 1-3 seconds. *jb
Car downshifts on small hills while using cruise control. car hesitates at times and has poor acceleration as the transmission searches for a gear. this lasts for seconds, creating a safety hazard. the problems were resolved with a tsb issued 8/2/07 but the problem came back after a few days. it seemed toyota's "learning" drivetrain re-learned all the problems. *jb
1/31/2007. toyota camry. engine hesitates while driving under normal conditions. *mc the consumer stated the vehicle exhibits intermittent loss of power when acceleration is needed. *jb
Tl*the contact owns a 2007 toyota camry. the contact stated that the vehicle hesitates when she depresses the accelerator pedal from a stop. she also stated that when she presses the pedal to the floor, it still hesitates three seconds before it accelerates. the contact stated that this happens constantly. the vehicle was purchased in january of 2007 and the failures have occurred ever since. the vin, purchase date, and engine size were unknown. the current mileage is 2,300 and failure mileage was 3.
Bad smell coming from the ac when is initially turn on and 5 days ago find out the rug on the passenger side and back on the same side are soaking wet. mechanic from the dealer stated that one ac hose inside the car, underneath the dashboard was tugged in. then the manager stated it was the outside hose from the ac. they state they are not responsible for the water damage. want costumer to pay 1,480 to change the rugs. only 9,707 miles, they are being dishonest to the customers. also, slow acceleration and jumpy ride. *tr
2007 camry se 4cyl. severe safety issue related to hesitation and lack of acceleration. when entering traffic from a low speed or from a dead stop the car barely responds to the accelerator. it will slowly allow you to proceed but will not accelerate for up to 3 or 4 seconds, even if the gas peddle is fully pressed to the floor. my family and i have nearly been hit a number of times over the past 6 months that we've owned this car. otherwise we really like this car but believe it to be unsafe because of this problem. the local dealership checked it out and agrees there is a problem and that toyota is aware of it but to date there is no fix. this is not a minor nuisance issue it's a severe safety issue and the nhsta needs to get involved to help pressure toyota to fix the problem before people are severely hurt or killed. *tr
I have a 2007 camry xle with 13,000 miles. from the first day i purchased the car, it has had a severe hesitation when attempting to accelerate both from a stop and at highway speeds (passing, merging into traffic). in addition, the automatic transmission seems to slip between 2nd and 3rd gear (approximately 20 to 25 mph) before it locks into gear and begins to accelerate. this is most noticeable when the engine is cold. i told the toyota service department about the problems at my last oil change. they hooked it up to the computer and test drove and were not able to replicate the transmission slippage problem. i was also told that the acceleration delay was due to the computer needing to communicate with the engine, and this was a normal delay and that i would "just have to get used to it". on several occasions this delay in acceleration has almost caused me to be in an accident. *jb
Complete loss of acceleration (up to 5 seconds or so) while making turns after having either slowed down, or completely stopped. two of those times have almost resulted in accidents from oncoming vehicles. complaint made at a toyota dealership. they claim no recall information, but have indicated that it wasn't the first time they've heard of it. no solution given other than the 800# to call toyota directly to make a complaint. nice. *nm
Tl*the contact owns a 2007 toyota camry. while attempting to accelerate from a stop, the vehicle hesitated. when driving on an incline, the vehicle downshifted automatically without warning. the failure began one week after purchasing the vehicle. the dealer stated that the vehicle was operating normally. the speed was unknown. the failure mileage was 250 and current mileage was 6,300.
After 4985 miles, the "check engine" light activated. there was a smell of burning electrical wires. dealer/service originally diagnosed the problem as a failure of the "variable valve timing actuator," but later re-diagnosed the problem as a failure of the wiring harness. the car was returned 11/30/06. after 20 minutes of driving, the "check engine" light reactivated. i returned the car immediately. on 12/01/06, the dealer/service diagnosed the problem and said a "vacuum tube" disconnected. i picked up car on 12/01/06. after a couple hours of driving, the "p" for park light illuminated while i was in drive. (the "p" and "d" indicators were both illuminated as i was driving. also, the door locks on all doors engaged and disengaged uncontrollably and continuously. i was not able to manually lock or unlock my car doors using the "lock/unlock" switch on the drive-side door since it was deactivated as a result of the malfunction. i took the car back to the dealer/service on 12/02/06 for this problem. dealer/service diagnoses the problem as a electrical short due to a coolant leak. i was promised that the car would be returned 12/4/06 afternoon. *nm
2007 toyota camry: vehicle fails to accelerate from a stop or at low speeds creating a potentially unsafe situation. toyota has been notified of this issue and has attempted to resolve it. each attempt resulted in an "unable to duplicate". a tsb has been performed on the vehicle and this has not corrected to issue. this is a safety hazard! this very same problem can be found on several message forums. someone is going to get hurt or killed if this is not corrected immediately. please look into this asap.
Dt*: the contact stated while driving various speeds, the vehicle hesitated when accelerating from a stop. the vehicle was taken to a dealer who was aware of the problem but could not determine how to fix it. the contact was directed to continue to use the vehicle until the factory can determine how to remedy the problem. there were no accidents yet but there were 3 close calls. also, the sun visors does not remain up.
Tl*the contact owns a 2007 toyota camry. while driving approximately 10-15 mph or at a stop, the vehicle stalls. the contact stated that the vehicle also hesitates as if it will stall, but dramatically decelerates instead. on one occasion, while driving approximately 30-35 mph, the vehicle pulled to the left. the vehicle has been to the dealer at least five times and they stated that the failure was caused by improper calibration. there was a service bulletin regarding this failure. some dealers have refused to repair her vehicle and stated that it was designed to perform in that manner. the vehicle was repaired, but the failure persists. the service bulletin number was unknown. the current mileage was 10,000 and failure mileage was 100.
I purchased a 2007 camry le in late april. from the day i took delivery, there appeared to be a problem with acceleration; there were dead spots. that led to long 3 to 5 seconds lag times before the car would respond when pressing down on the accelerator. also, the transmission shifted into overdrive when a steady acceleration was all that was needed. i finally took it to the dealer today; i thought that i would allow a 'break-in' period to see if the problem resolved itself. the moment that i began to describe the problem, i was stopped and asked if it was a 2007 camry le. an affirmative response brought an answer that there is nothing that they can do; it had been reported to toyota. apparently to deflect what must have looked like rising anger, i was told that the service manger's daughter has the same problem. a call to toyota of america brought a response that the vehicle is operating as it was designed (so, i guess it was designed to stall when making a right or left turn, changing lanes on the interstate, trying to go forward, etc). my anger is 1) that they sold me a defective car, 2) that they know it is a factory defect but choose not to fix the problem (i can't believe that they are still 'thinking' about a solution), and 3) that i wasn't notified of this rather major defect (and why is toyota allowed to continue to sell these cars without the caveat that there is a factory defect that has not been repaired and toyota has no plans to provide a repair)? i have looked at over a dozen web sights where members have complained, but i have not seen a mention of the reason for the problem or a solution of what to do. someone is going to be killed by this erratic behavior. *jb
Tl*the contact owns a 2007 toyota camry. when driving 10mph out of the driveway the vehicle stalled. after a few seconds the vehicle began to accelerate. the manufacturer gave the contact a work order to have the dealer diagnose the failure. the dealer's conclusion was that the vehicle is computerized and it is trying to get used to the contact's driving habits. the current mileage was 7878 and failure mileage was 7678. the engine size and power train information were unavailable.
Tl*the contact owns a 2007 toyota camry. the contact stated that the vehicle hesitates or stalls when driving approximately 15 mph. the vehicle speed control also surges intermittently. the vehicle was taken to the dealer twice. the first time they stated that the occurrence was normal for a new vehicle. the second time they performed a flash on the ecm. the vehicle performed normally for approximately 1,000 miles, but then it began hesitating again. the failure mileage was 1,000 and current mileage was 18,000.
I have a problem with my 2007 camry accelerating from a stopped or "low speed" position. i also have had to have the air conditioner condenser replaced due to a rock coming through the grill of the car and "puncturing the condenser. i took the car to a toyota dealer in slidell, la as i was out of town. the dealer replaced the condenser for $625.00 at my expense. i was told there were no "screens" or any type of materials that could keep this from occurring again. there is however a tsb for the same thing on the 2007 corolla. i feel that toyota has a flaw in the grill of the 2007 camry and it should be remedied. on the issue of acceleration, i live in a congested traffic area in fl and do not feel that i can safely "pull out" into traffic unless i have a great deal of clearance. i feel that this is a severe safety issue that needs to be addressed by toyota. i am an avid fan of toyota products. this is my 3rd camry and i owned a scion tc as well so this is not about downing a toyota product. i believe in toyota. i just think now is the time to recognize a problem and remedy that for the consumer. i would hate for someone to get killed before they address this issue. *nm
This complaint is re: a new 2007 toyota camry le 4 cylinder with automatic transmission. this car will hesitate for a long period of time before accelerating from virtually any speed (behavior not seen when accelerating from dead stop), regardless of how hard the driver presses the gas pedal. problem occurs when moving at virtually any speed and then quickly pressing and holding the gas pedal down so as to accelerate quickly. this behavior is not like any other car i have ever driven, including a rental 2005 4 cylinder camry that i drove for a week in the colorado mountains last summer (2005). safety issue is that car is unpredictable in situations where one must move the car to avoid traffic. example: rolling forward into a left turn at a green light intersection, press gas to clear the intersection before oncoming traffic gets too close, the car did not increase engine revolutions and took over 1 sec. to drop into lower gear and begin to increase engine revolutions/accelerate. the car's failure to respond to gas pedal input was so long that i would have had an accident if i had persisted in the left hand turn; i had to turn the car parallel to oncoming traffic to avoid hitting the oncoming car. this behavior is repeatable and the delay can be up to 2 sec. in length before the car even begins to accelerate. this behavior is also seen by numerous other owners of '07 camrys as can be seen in postings on www.edmunds.com (click on forums tab and search for "camry hesitation"). the issue is not one of lack of horsepower. the issue is long and unpredictable response to throttle input. there are also very annoying drivable issues with this car that are related to transmission/engine behavior, but i am addressing only the safety issue in this complaint. efforts to resolve issue have not been successful; toyota's response has been that the car is operating "normally" and "as designed." if so, there is a designed-in safety issue with this car. *jb
Tl* the contact owns a 2007 toyota camry. the contact stated that three quarts of oil had to be replaced every 5,000 miles. the vehicle was taken to the dealer and the engine was pulled to determine the cause of the excessive oil consumption. the vehicle had not been repaired. the failure mileage was 10 and the current mileage was 55,000.
On occasion, my 2007 toyota camry stalls upon acceleration. this causes extremely dangerous situation when pulling into traffic from a stop. i returned camry to toyota only a few days after purchase- they replaced a sensor, but car still stalls. i have returned camry to toyota many times for same stall issue. in fact, toyota is in the shop now with same complaint. the issue has never been repaired. *tr
Dt*: the contact stated the engine hesitated when accelerating from a stop. the hesitation of the engine lasted between 30 to 60 seconds. the vehicle was taken to the service dealer, who did not find any problem with the engine. the manufacturer was aware there of the problem, but offered no solution. updated 02/12/07. *jb
Driver belt/tensioner failure at less than 46,000 miles on a new model. noise under the hood when air conditioner is turned on. driver belt has lost tension. vehicle is less than 4 years old. *tr
