My 2007 toyota camry is blowing white powder (aluminum oxide) when the air conditioning/heat is coming out of the vents. online research points out to the anti-mold, experimental coding that toyota put on the evaporator fans, and this is what is causing the issue. however, toyota does not want to admit this coding was put on the vehicles in 2007, and there is no official recall about this issue. at the same time, the long-term exposure to aluminum oxide could lead to lung damage. i was wondering what can be done in a case like this. please advise. toyota said that since my vehicle is not under warranty of any kind, all repairs would have to be covered by me. thank you for your advice and thought on the issue. my case number with the toyota is [xxx]. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

White powder or dust blowing out of air vents of my heating vents in winter and ac vents in summer. due to that car also smell like dusty etc.. this problem is occurring since last summer, problem persist last summer, winter and now this summer. first time my kids (4 and 3 years old) was riding in my car to grocery store 3 miles from home, they had problem breathing and they are coughing, so i have open my all window, so kids can breathe. i am exhaling that white powder inside me, i am not sure what that powder is, and how it will effect my health in long term. i took my care to 3 different toyota dealerships and everyone said without open my car that this is known issue with this model. *tr

During replacement of the tires on this vehicle, the mechanic observed oil leaks on both of the front struts on this car. although this is the first time this condition was observed, the leaks must have been present for some time because this condition probably contributed to the deterioration of the tires. one of the tires actually showed areas where the steel belts of the tire were exposed - potentially a very dangerous situation. *tr

2007 toyota camry. consumer writes in regards to problems with engine stalling. *smd the consumer stated the last time the vehicle stalled, it would not re-start and the vehicle had to be towed to the dealer. the dealer informed the consumer, the engine needed to be replaced. the dealer blamed the consumer for having the vehicle tuned-up at a service station, where they may have used green anti-freeze fluid, instead of pink anti-freeze that toyota used. the consumer was informed green anti-freeze would corrode the tank. the consumer was informed a re-built engine would cost $ 7287.66. the consumer agreed to the price and finally picked the vehicle up on february 11, 2013. the next day, when the consumer started the vehicle, the engine was leaking fluids. the vehicle was towed back to the dealer. the dealer stated they tightened up some loose areas and the vehicle was returned to the consumer.

When turning on a/c a mildewy like smell would occur but disappear. then only one half of car would cool. vents on the drivers side produced hot air; vents on passenger side produced cool air. this progressed to a strange chemical gassy type smell, not a fuel gas smell, incomparable to anything i have smelled before. while trying to allow the passenger to remain cool, this gas entered the car cabin and begins to make you sleepy. after experiencing this several times, i no longer use the air conditioner as i had become too sleepy to drive on one occasion. i took my car to a local repair shop. i was informed there was an issue with the evaporator. i took my vehicle to a toyota dealership and was told there was nothing wrong with my evaporator. when i asked about the tje chemical gassy smell, i was told it was nothing. *tr

Started hearing some weird sound at a small turn from home to work. within a minute of the sound, found the steering totally locked and didnot move left or right and need to apply force to pull over to the side to stop on the highway. called allstate roadside assistance to tow the vehicle to pep boys and found the water pump broken. replaced it by them and it is running fine now. *tr

Car is burning excessive oil and per the dealership, they can't find anything wrong. from what i see online, this appears to be a widespread problem. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 toyota camry. the contact stated the vehicle was burning more oil than normal. while driving 25 mph, the oil warning light illuminated. the contact checked the oil and noticed there was no oil in the vehicle. the contact stated that the oil was changed 4,700 miles prior to the failure. the contact added one quart of oil to the vehicle and then took the vehicle to a local mechanic. an oil change was performed however, six days later the check engine light was illuminated. the vehicle was then taken to the dealer who inspected the vehicle and advised that there were no oil leaks. the manufacturer was not notified. the failure mileage was 60,000 and the current mileage was 62,000.

2,000 miles after an oil change i noticed that my oil light would come on sporadically. i checked the oil and it was three quarts low. the car only hold four quarts of oil, so this was especially concerning. a mechanic checked out my car and said that there were no leaks, everything was still factory sealed, and he didn't know why it was consuming so much oil. i had an oil change 1000 miles later, and 2000 miles after that i was low on oil again! according to things i've read, this car consumes roughly 1 quart of oil every 1,200 miles it is driven. this should be fixed by toyota. *js

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 toyota camry. the contact stated that the vehicle would burn excessive oil every thousand miles. the contact stated that he would check the oil level every one thousand miles and would have to add one quart of oil in between oil changes at 3,000 miles. the vehicle was taken to a local mechanic for inspection of the leak but the mechanic was unable to determine the cause of the leak. the dealer was not notified. the manufacturer was not notified. the failure mileage was 130,000 and the current mileage was 147,000.

2007 toyota camry. consumer states problem with noise from engine due to water pump leaking. *tgw the consumer stated the water pump should not have failed, with such low mileage. *jb

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 toyota camry. the contact was driving 30 mph and attempting a left turn when the vehicle lost traction and swerved from one side of the road to the other. the contact stated that the check engine failure light illuminated during the failure. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer and the manufacturer was not contacted. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure and the current mileages were 57,000.

This is for camry 07, 4 cyl. the car always gets serviced at the toyota dealership at 5000 intervals (per their recommendations). i noticed before the due mileage (5000 miles) when sudden braking, the oil light would come on. when checking the dipstick it is almost empty. so the dealer recommends doing 500 to 1000 miles oil checks and it is consuming too much oil. after searching i found that there is a defect in the engine block but toyota denies it. i did call their customer service and they mentioned it is ok for the engine to consume oil!!! this is of course is not acceptable and secondly burning oil would make more pollution. *tr

This car was purchased used from a private party in august 2011. i did an oil change soon after, on 8/21 with mileage at 57,336. on 11/3 my wife reported the oil light coming on when braking. i checked the oil level, and there was just a tiny bit on the tip of the dipstick. it took 3 full quarts to bring it back up to full on the dipstick. mileage was 59,820 so that means that in 2,484 miles, the engine consumed 3 quarts of oil. on 12/18 my wife again reported the oil light coming on when braking. i checked the oil and the dipstick was completely dry. again, 3 full quarts to bring it up to the full mark. mileage was 61,397 so this time 3 quarts were consumed in 1577 miles. all of this in completely normal driving. there is no oil leaking under the car and there is no smoke coming out of the tailpipe, nor is there any oil mixed in with the coolant, so i don't know where it is going. this is ridiculous. i will be contacting toyota about this tomorrow. the manual states that it is normal to consume a quart every 600 miles. this is also ridiculous. toyota knows there is a problem, there are many complaints about this. toyota has since redesigned their engine because if this. toyota needs to give people with affected vehicles replacement engines to rectify this. please investigate and hold toyota accountable. *tr

I have 2007 toyota camry that has excessive oil consumption 1qt every 1000mls. *tr

Noticed the engine burning oil at an excessive rate (2 quarts every 1500 miles) at around 72,000 miles. at 85,000 miles dealer ran a consumption test and inspected the engine. advised that the short block of the engine needed to be replaced for $6500. car is just out of warranty on mileage and toyota will not cover the repair despite the fact that the dealer says this is a common and known issue. a quick search on the internet of "2007 camry burns oil" showed that many others are having the same problem. i have no idea if it's safe for me to drive the car under the current conditions (the dealership couldn't guarantee it was) and i don't feel that it's my responsibility to fix this since it's clearly an issue with this car. online searches have also revealed that toyota has come out with a new short block for the engine of this car, so clearly, they know the other one was flawed. this car is not even five years old. it's not normal to have to replace the engine. toyota is insisting that it is. they won't acknowledge the problem. please investigate! *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 toyota camry. the contact stated while driving 35 mph, smoke was seen coming from the interior. the contact merged onto the shoulder and the vehicle was towed to the dealer who test drove and inspected the vehicle. the dealer was unable to find where the smoke was coming from or any other issues. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 55,000.

I purchased this vehicle from sheehy nissan on sept. 25, 2010, with 89,720 miles, one previous owner and no accidents/damage reported to carfax, after having a state inspection done of all major systems. i have the oil changed at regular intervals (most recently, sept. 23, 2011 at 110,990 miles) and had 100k mile servicing done on july 19, 2011. the engine failed during a drive to new york. climbing the bridge out of delaware, the rpms abnormally increased. i saw the oil light illuminate, turned off the radio, opened the window and heard the engine making loud noises. i pulled to the shoulder on the approach to the new jersey turnpike. when the car came to a stop, the engine stalled and would not restart. the temperature gauge remained at the mid-way point, but a greasy film covered the back bumper. aaa towed it back to my shop, where mechanics said they could not get the engine to turn. they said the oil pump had failed. oil was in the engine but wasn't circulating, and they found fresh oil and metal shavings in the pan. i paid $3,819 for a complete engine rebuild for a four-year old car. searching the internet and this website, i see a number of owners of 2007 toyota camrys highlighting problems with the car's engine, including sludge build up. i have received no information from the dealer about recalls. the used car warranty covered the engine but its duration was 30 days or 1k miles, whichever came first. in addition, the sun visor on the passenger's side continually slips, obscuring the view of traffic on the right, and will not remain in place - a problem i see other owners of this vehicle report. i don't see a place to enter this, but there were no injuries or deaths because i was able to pull out of traffic while the engine was still running. *kb

I had an oil change 2k miles ago by a certified toyota dealership and yesterday noticed that my oil light kept turning on as i accelerated and decelerated. checked the oil with the dipstick and it was not registering. had to put 3 quarts of oil in to bring it back up to full. had toyota check and there were no leaks. said that its uncommon that this is happening. and it could be burning oil. that's 1 quart every 1000 miles which is unheard of! i checked online after my visit with toyota and found out that there is a widespread problem! i only have 76k on the engine and my warranty ran out at 65k. dealer said either pay to have the engine rebuilt or buy a new car. then said that he suggests to buy a new car and dump this one before the problem gets worse!!!

My car is consuming oil out of normal. the dealer put me on oil consumption test last year. i was told that the oil consumption is ok. now i have the same issue again. i was very low on oil almost i qt left in the engine. i checked the engine oil because the oil pressure light keeps popping up when i apply brakes. i went to the dealer again yesterday and they put me on oil consumption test again. i was reading the forums and everyone has the same issue. there is no solution recommended by toyota. we are told to keep coming back to the workshop every 1200 miles without a fix. please help. *tr

2007 toyota camry, 4cl high oil burning rate - car engine was making loud. brought to dealership and was told that i had almost no oil in the engine. damage was done to various parts including crank shaft, water pump. *tr

I was driving on the turnpike with my cruise control set at 75 mph when my car began "racing" into overdrive. it did this for a few seconds then stopped, a few minutes later the engine raced again. about. that time another car pulled up next to me to tell me my car was on fire(smoking). i pulled off the interstate and had to have my car towed. toyota finally agreed to replace the engine but i am having same problems with new engine and i was charged $1800 to get an extended warranty on the new engine. *tr

My camry has excessive oil usage. it uses about 1 qt every 600 miles. the problem started at approx 61000 miles. car currently has 96,000 miles on it and i put a quart of oil in for every 2 tanks of gas. i see that toyota issued a tsb for this problem but will only fix it under warranty. they are replacing the pistons and rings with a new design because the old design is a failure. it is an engineering/design defect and should be fixed under a recall. *kb

@79k miles, oil light came on. added 1.5 qts of oil. took car in for 80k service (all service up to date). told dealer of low oil problem. dealer advised 05/31/2011 driveability; customer states that oil light came on dash about 500 miles ago added 1 qua

I accidentally found out that my 2007 toyota camry is burning excessive amount of oil. when i went for an oil change at around 60000 miles, the mechanics commented that my engine oil level is very low (nearly empty). he found no signs of leaking. after the oil change, i checked the level to make sure it is full. after 600 miles, the mark is near the low end, which means about 1.2 quart consumption (according to user manual). *kb

We bought a 2007 toyota camry in october 06 and have been experiencing low oil levels for the past 3 years. on a couple of occasions, the oil level has gotten so low that the oil light came on. we have been reporting the problem to two separate toyota dealerships and they've asked me to return the car for oil checks after 1000 miles, which show a lost of over a quart of oil. our toyota dealership has been telling us that it is normal for the camry to consume over a quart of oil after 1000 to 3,000 miles and there is no problem to fix. i have an extended warranty through fidelity and a service specialist by the name of [xxx] at toyota of orlando been giving me the run around about getting fidelity to give them the go ahead to resolve the issue. he said that he has called fidelity a couple of times to get authorization but they have not gotten back with him but will contact us when he gets the ok. it has been over two weeks since he said he has been trying to get the go ahead from fidelity, so we decided to call fidelity to find out why they were delaying giving the dealership the go ahead to fix the car, seeing that we have the platinum place. fidelity informed us that no one from toyota of orlando has ever contacted them at any time about our 2007 camry. we then spoke with a service manager by the name of [xxx] and he has been giving me the same story about it is not unusual for the camry to consume over a quart of oil between 1000 to 3000 miles, so there is nothing to fix. we have owned over 8 cars and has never had this type of problem. i have spoken to several mechanics and they informed me that this problem should not be happening to a newer model car like ours. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2007 toyota camry. the contact stated the vehicle was consuming oil at an excessive rate. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the contact was advised to bring the vehicle back after 1,000 miles so they could further diagnose the failure. the failure had yet to be diagnosed. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and they informed the vehicle was out of warranty and that there were no active recalls. the manufacturer offered no further assistance. the failure mileage was 80,942.

2007 camry se burning oil on engine. dealer advised i would need a new engine at a cost of $7200 to replace. dealer advised to check oil every 1000 mile. although i don't see oil leaks, i am having to add oil every 1000 miles. dealer's service tech attributed it to not getting the oil changes, however, i have service records to prove otherwise as dealer maintained by 3 toyota dearlers. with 115k miles and still making payments, dealer advised new engine, gasket and seals would correct the problem. i am learning of other 07 camry owners with same problem. *tr

The oil baffle in my 2007 camry has trashed the engine and toyota refuses to take any responsibility because my car is couple of thousand miles past the warranty and they are asking for 8,000 for a new engine. in the meantime, i am still making payment for this car and i have not been able to drive it for the past month and do not have the money to fix it. *tt

My camry is burning through oil at a rate of about one quart per 1000 miles! this is not normal in the least. i know that there have been many complaints similar to mine - i sure hope that your agency can do something to address this issue with toyota. *tr

2007 toyota camry 2.4l at 68,000 miles - water pump failure.

2007 toyota camry. initially when the car was turned on the brake light, and abs light would come on along with the tachometer, speedometer would begin racing while in park. at this time the engine cooling system would go down to "c" this happened half a dozen times and it was taken to toyota dealers. i spent 618.00 for repairs and i was told the car was fixed. toyota dealer also stated i was able to drive the car and there would be no problems. after spending money for repairs within 24 hours the problem began again. now this time not only when you were in park would the lights come on the began coming on while i was driving. so i could not tell what speeds i was doing and unable to tell if i had brakes when the light came on. so it was taken back to the same dealership and this time they want to replace skid control ecu/actuator per tech line and want me to spend over 2000.00 to fix the problem even though i have a bill of sale that states problem was fixed just days before. *tr

At about 75000 miles my camry started burning 1+ quarts of oil between oil changes. now at 84000 miles it is burning 1.5+ quarts between oil changes. with this increased excessive burn rate the car must now be monitored regularly to prevent engine from running out oil and ceasing up the engine. from discussions on several websites this is a known problem which effects a lot of camrys and which toyota refuses to correct. they state a quart burned in 1200 miles is normal which is a really stupid thing to say. toyota once again is failing to step up to owning the problem. also, as all these engines are needlessly burning thousands of quarts of oil due to low reliability parts, we are very much creating a lot of air pollution. i wonder what the epa thinks of this? *kb

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 toyota camry. the contact stated while driving 65 mph uphill, the vehicle stalled without warning. the contact then discovered unknown fluids leaking from under the vehicle and the engine had overheated. the vehicle was towed to the dealer where the contact was advised that the vehicle had overheated due to a loose cap on the radiator. the dealer advised that the vehicle would not repaired despite the warranty. the contact stated the cap was loose because when the vehicle was taken for routine maintenance, the mechanic did not install the cap securely. the vehicle was not repaired. the vin was not available. the failure mileage was 40,000.

2007 toyota camry - while slowing down in traffic from 30 mph, as i reached approximately 10 mph the engine "revved up" ......i had to brake harder while the car was bucking as if it wanted to speed ahead ....after 5 seconds, engine slowed abruptly so that we thought it had stalled but it was just back to the usual idling speed. the car was brought in to the toyota dealership on june 16, 2010 right after this incident. they examined the car, found nothing wrong and charged us $96.00. this "revving up" has happened before but not as severe as this occurrence. since the june 16 incident, it has happened six other times several of which were severe. the most recent severe incident was on august 21, 2010. we have notified the toyota corporation but as of today, 8/25/2010, they have not advised us as to what to do. we are not driving the car until this is resolved and the car is found to be safe. *tr

I purchased a toyota camry 2007 about three years ago and my transmission went out despite the fact that i received the require maintenance on the vehicle. i am still paying a car note on this vehicle, but can not drive it because of this problem. i addressed my concerns to toyota and initially jack taylors and dar cars of toyota stated they could take 10% off the 4800 they quoted me. i felt disrespected and insulted because i have brought several cars from toyota and never experienced any major issues.as a single mother and person that is still paying a car note, i did not have that kind of money. i then explored other alternatives , so that i can shop for the best possible price at other transmissions shop. the first shop i went you was a-1 transmission(suitland, md)and they indicated that this is a common problem in toyotas camry regarding transmission issues. i then took it to cottman's transmission(waldorf, md) and mechanic indicated that this is common issue in toyota. reportedly, he stated that there are defects with some of the bolts and things they use. i decided to go with cottmans because of their reputation and price. also, because they offered the best warranty( 3year). toyota jack taylor, alexandira,va phoned me a couple days after , stating that they could give me 50% off theprice, however, it was being work on in the shop, so i ask if they could pay half the price that cottman's was giving me and they said "no". i feel like i am being penalized for toyota's deficiencies. after getting my car fixed, it does not drive the same and literally i feel like i am paying for something that doesn't adequately supply my need(lemon) i use to work for nhtsa hotline and i wanted to report this issue because this has caused undue hardship and burden on my family. i a rent a car for about two weeks and can not pay my daughter's tuition for school. my daughter's school has extended grace to me. i would appreciate if you all would investigate this mat. *tr
