Problems with 2007 Toyota Camry STEERING

Abs brake system failure while driving. loss of brakes, power steering, engine power while on a busy street approaching an intersection

As i was traveling home and my steering wheel start to have a mind of its own so it veered to the right and i lost control so the car spent around we end up on the left side. seatbelt was not helping protect us at all my daughter seatbelt allowed her to slide under breaking her right femur and my right femur on plus my ankle had to be reconstructed. airbags came out 30 minutes after the wreck. *jb *dt in tampa. state road. steering wheel locked up. accelerating ' pull right and then left. when got car, went through barbed wire fences. par indicates hit tree, driver does not remember. daughter was in front seat, seat belt on. daughter flung over seatbelt. seatbelt over arm. driver didn't know broke leg. waited for paramedics. car caved in on occupants. driving approx 45 mph. couldn't hit brakes or anything. don't have police report. par number: 87281695. state trooper ' florida highway patrol. daughter is 9, weighs approx 125 lb. front passenger seat. usually don't let sit there. stated airbag didn't deploy during incident, pictures at iaa show air bags deployed. did not contact toyota ' thought nhtsa took care of. no inspection conducted. vehicle at junk yard, don't know if vehicle still there. *jb

2007 toyota camry le the steering wheel is sticking or binding when turned both left and right. the steering wheel will not return to center by itself. this was confirmed by mike calvert service director grant miles. on service ticket tocs 224493 there remarks were test drove vehicle and could not feel a pull any direction checked alignment specs and specs were at factory settings related to steering issue...,and felt at full turn to the left or right, the wheel would not rotate back when going forward... when going in reverse with the s/wheel turned all the way left or right the s/wheel does retract as it is supposed to...during normal turning left or right the s/wheel does retract as it is supposed to... it's only when the s/wheel is turned fully left or right the steering will not retract.... we concluded that the issues described by are a normal characteristic of this year and model vehicle. mike calvert admits making my car worst than it was before i bought the car in for service. the steering wheel now sticks in both left and right turns and at low speeds the tires feel like i have an flat. i have had tires replaced because fred haas told me that the steering wheel sticking was because of my tires, they alignment was out of specs. i feel that is a unsafe condition and need to be addressed. toyota customer service was of no help. i have been to three dealership for this problem. all have the same answer bad tires, alignment, and normal condition for your car steering wheel to stick and your car will do circles when low speed turning without your hand on the wheel. two toyota tech. have been in the car when this is happen. there response was normal to do that. the service director has noted that this is happening both left and right full turns. my car was only sticking to the left before taking it to mike calvert toyota.

The water temperature, rpm gauge and speedometer randomly fluctuate, abs and brake lights stay on. it occurred when vehicle moving or stop. the mechanics told me the abs module in engine compartment failed however the braking is still functional. the abs function might stop working.

When back out from driveway, i always heard a clinking sound and felt like steering column loose component.

Car has for some times been making clunking, knocking noise from steering . car was inspected by my mechanic and was told the steering intermediate shaft must be replaced, called toyota & was told no coverage to cover the repair.

i was driving my 2007 toyota camry le about 55 miles an hour on a three lane interstate freeway. i was in the slow lane and my car suddenly and violently turned to the left, causing the car to hit a large rv in the center lane. the car continue spinning across the fast lane (it's amazing no cars were in that lane because traffic was fairly heavy). the back end of my car hit the center cement barrier hard (car totaled) and i came to a stop on the inside shoulder facing the opposite direction of where i was originally traveling. the airbag did not go off and the locking part of the seatbelt didn't seem to work. i could have been easily killed or killed someone else. i will contact toyota. there is no excuse for this.

5/13/2015: 2007 toyota camry. vsc (vehicle stability control) light came on (5/9/2015). it was very difficult to stop the vehicle. had to floor the brakes in order to stop the vehicle. the steering was all over the place, not tight with the steering wheel movements. brought it to the dealership (new country toyota of clifton park, ny) where we bought it 9 months ago and they said this is a common part that fails. if this is true, there should be a recall...this is a huge safety issue. i am thankful that my son didn't get in an accident. they now want $2500 to repair it. when we purchased this vehicle for our son 9 months ago, they said that we can get 250,000 miles out of it, it was a very safe car for our son to be in....i beg to differ!!! i see lots of complaints listed for this electronic stability contol and hope there will be a recall.

I fix this intermediate shafts in 2010 and now it happen again. toyota should do a recall on this part.

My 2007 toyota camry xle lost control of steering, brakes and stability control. the car surged left, right, left the went off the road to the right. the brakes were applied but did not seem to have any function. massive damage was caused to the body from hitting 2 trees. no airbag deployment. *tr

My 2007 toyota camry se has a melted dashboard that severely diminishes visibility when the sun is out. a reflection from the dashboard is displayed on the windshield and is like looking directly into the sun. sooner or later this is going to be the cause of an accident that may or may not result, but not limited to death. it is a defect on the part of toyota and should be addressed immediately before someone gets hurt. i have two small children and their lives should not be put in danger for an obvious defect that must be corrected. *tr

The car pulls to the left or right and there is alot of play in the steering wheel, and occasionally the wheel will jerk slightly. there is a popping/ knocking in the wheels and steering wheel. i have taken it to get an alignment twice and was told that it is not the alignment. put new brakes and rotors on the front. did some research and found that this was a recall on this model of vehicle, ran a vin number check and my car did not show up with having a recall. called toyota and asked about a recall for the steering. toyota stated that because my vin number did not show up as a recall for this problem that there was nothing they could help me with. also see that there was a recall or complaint about the transmission. i really think that if there was a history of recalls for this make and model that toyota should still check this out for free and fix the problem. just because the vin number is not showing up as being recalled doesn't mean that this can not happen. i have only had the car 2 weeks and have not been happy with the way it drives. *tr

My mechanic showed me all 4 struts(f&r) are leaking too much and that they have to be replaced. i called manhattan beach toyota and they said it is not covered under any recall or warranty & it will cost over $1400.00 to replace. it took the mechanic over hours to complete replacing all 4 struts. i am really shocked by this finding, it shouldn't have happened, and toyota should take care of this problem. *tr

I first noticed in early may 2013, that when i turn my vehicle left or right at 1 - 5 mph, there is a clicking sound coming from the steering rack/pinion. i mentioned to toyota at my last service. i was told, as usual, they could not duplicate the problem. and, that is frustrating because when i problems with my breaks, i had to lodge a formal complaint to remedy that issue. on september 1, 2013, i was driving on the highway and my vehicle pulled to the left. i hit good size shrub and now there is a slight dent on the left hand side. i selected "crash" because although i only hit a good sized shrub, i was on the highway and it could have been a lot worse had i not been able to control my vehicle. *tr

Started hearing some weird sound at a small turn from home to work. within a minute of the sound, found the steering totally locked and didnot move left or right and need to apply force to pull over to the side to stop on the highway. called allstate roadside assistance to tow the vehicle to pep boys and found the water pump broken. replaced it by them and it is running fine now. *tr

I got a case number from toyota, toyota told me that the only way my air bag will deploy is that the motor would have to be in the car dash board to protect the driver. so she knows that the car air bag was working properly.

My car had been making a noise at low speeds; i thought it was a transmission matter due to age and wear and tear but a toyota garage informed me i need a new steering shaft. an online search showed other people with similar problems on the 2007 camry. this is my 13th automobile in my lifetime and it is the first on which a steering shaft has failed, although i have driven some of the other cars much farther. my previous toyota went 300,000 miles and never had such a problem. the estimated cost to fix the steering shaft is $540; i believe toyota should provide a recall and fix it for free. *tr

While driving, pulling out of garage, turning right or left at town/city speeds and while at highway speeds (55mph and higher) a knocking, popping feeling is felt on steering wheel. when the knocking/popping feeling is felt there is also a feeling of loss of vehicle steering control. at times a slight lurching feeling also present. the problem was reported to toyota dealer, who inspected steering assembly and said they 'feel' the pulse but don't have a full diagnosis. during the months of sept/oct 2012 the problem got worse with more popping/knocking feeling felt at wider speeds and general steering control being lost more frequently. took the vehicle to another dealer on oct 5 2012 and they state that the steering shaft has to be replaced. more concerning is the dealer's verbal statement that this is a 'safety issue and you should not be driving' the vehicle. i contacted toyota customer service to check on recalls and they state none exist, but a tsb has been issued for this issue. they also stated (verbal) that if more complaints are received toyota may issue a recall. a simple google search with key words '2007 toyota camry steering shaft recall' yields 1000s of hits on users reporting this problem. i feel that this is a safety issue that is slowly arising. i have driven my car for roughly 18000 miles when the problem starts. dealer now wants approximately $600 to fix the issue by replacing the shaft. i am concerned about safety, not just for myself but for other motorists and feel that this issue requires further investigation by competent authority. to me it looks like toyota is aware of the problems but are willfully ignoring the issue. i may be contacted for additional information if required to assist any further investigation. thank you *tr

Purchased the vehicle from authorized dealer in 2011, had 24000 miles at the time. within one week returned to dealer because car was making noises as turning and at when braking steering column would shake. dealer changed a tire and rotated and balanced all and sent me home. after about 6 months, steering column is now continuously shaking as brakes are applied. went back to dealer at 55,000 miles and dealer said this was unrelated to the original shaking problem and diagnosed it as the steering column issue. i have the extended warranty so i will have to pay the $100 dollar deductible. next, my sun visor just broke on the drivers side, it just fell down and would not go back up as i was driving. it was obstructing my view so i played with it and the thing ripped the cloth and then came right off. dealer will not cover costs and says it is not covered under the warranty. obviously a known issue. *tr

2007 camry xle with only 23,000 miles now has power steering return line leak. it appears that the corolla is currently being invested for power steering problems of some sort. many parts used to build these cars are proving to be of inferior quality. this is a $250 repair. why isn't toyota being required to make all repairs for no charge to their recalled vehicles whether it is a known factor at the time or not. now they are giving something like that on new vehicles to encourage sales. what about all of us owners who now have vehicles not worth the money spent on them. shouldn't we receive some remuneration - afterall didn't the nhtsa receive millions? *tr

I was stop at the stop light waiting for the light to turn green. when light turn green, i proceeded to make left hand turn into the undivided ramp. the steering would not return to the right. i turn the steering wheel as fast as i can to the right, but vehicle would not go to the right. on coming traffic hit me head on and collided head on with no air bags deployed at all. bruised on head due to hitting head on driver side window. insurance company had taken all parts for investigation. my left wheel was torn in half like it was open up by a can opening. ball joints were off also. *tr

While driving at low speeds (1-5 mph) backing up or forward - a clunking sound is felt on steering wheel. also, a bit of looseness is felt on the connection of the steering wheel and the tires. the clunking doesn't happen while driving above 10 mph. dealer (capital toyota in san jose, ca) told me that the steering shaft needs to be re-greased. i'm concerned that there are lots of other 2007 camry owners with the same problem, and some have lost control. *tr

When backing or driving and turning the steering wheel i hear a clicking or popping noise in the steering system. looking on the internet it appears that toyota will run up a bill doing repairs when they probably know what the problem is. *tr

A few weeks ago i started to notice a "clunking noise" when i turn the steering wheel while the car is standing still or moving slowly, like backing out of our driveway or turning into our driveway, parking lot, etc.... i finally had time to look it up online and see if i could find anything about it and of course i did. apparently it dates back to the '04-'06 camry and a problem with the steering intermediate shaft. there was a tsb announcement about the earlier issue, but none so far for the '07. from what i understand from reading the forums it appears to be a wide spread issue. i think there needs to be a recall.

I was driving for work with my toyota camry 2007. while accelerating to get on the highway, around the end of the ramp, my vehicle suddenly accelerated with no controls working from the driver's seat either for the steering wheel or the brake. in a matter of a few seconds, the vehicle went a few times in a zig-zag manner and subsequently hit a semi-trailer which was southbound on the highway. my car was completely smashed in the front and totaled later. this incident occurred after my car went through the accelerator pedal replacement as per recommendation of the toyota recall procedure. i could have been easily killed in this accident. i got a traffic ticket for the first time in my life after having a ticket-free driving record for the past 11+ years. i am pleading 'not guilty' for this ticket because the defective toyota car was responsible for the accident and not my error. *tr
