Recently reported ELECTRICAL SYSTEM problems on 2007 Toyota Camry

An electrical fire started in the driver's side door of my 2007 toyota camry. there was a short in the power window master switch assembly located in the driver's side door. i drove my car the next day to my local toyota dealer for service and repair. i paid ventura toyota $437.36 in parts and $57.50 in labor to replace the assembly. *tr

On 12/26/11, i was driving my car along with three passengers and began to see black smoke throughout the car. i determined that the smoke was coming from the driver side master control panel on the door. shortly thereafter, the smoke immediately turned into flames, which caused poor visibility and complete panic. luckily, i pulled to the side of the road and had all passengers immediately exit the vehicle. prior to exiting the vehicle, the flames caught the left side of my arm and started to burn my coat. during this ordeal, i noticed that the front passenger side window immediately dropped unexpectedly. after exiting the vehicle the flames quickly increased and began shooting into the air uncontrollably. on instinct, i decided to leave the car door open facing the street as i was fearful to close the door, which would further exacerbate the fire. my husband was able to retrieve a piece of clothing from the trunk of the car and used it to put out the fire while sustaining a burn on his hand. i immediately called 911 as they dispatched the fire department to the scene. the fire department completely extinguished the fire and indicated that it may have been caused due to electrical problems. overall, it was a frightening experience for myself and family members as i strongly feel that no one has a clear explanation as to the cause of the fire and fails to ensure my family's safety and well being. i immediately contacted my insurance agent, the dealership and explained the incident in detail along with filing a complaint with toyota motor corporation. this is a significant incident that occurred and further investigation and consideration should be taken. this incident fortunately did not lead to any serious physical injuries, however the emotional trauma and distress caused by the ordeal is long-lasting. *tr updated 07/24/12

I wanted to pass along this fix as the tsb seem not to have a solution . i have filed this under electrical as this is the common symptoms (dash gauges jump) ; however the failure is in the brakes (abs distribution). i first noticed my dash gauges (temp, tach, speedometer, and transmission selection) were jumpy or non operative. it resembled a low battery problem. the dealer 1st suggested i replace battery--still has problem, then they stated they found loose wire under dash--still had problem, finally (after i explained there were many online complaints of others with remedies that did not work) they advised toyota had a tsb for the abs distribution that would cause dash gauges to work erratically. part was replaced under extended warranty. car seems fine...a plus, car no longer feels like brakes are dragging when letting off accelerator pedal. i hope this helps others. *tr

Hi, the front panel lights of toyota camry 2007 are too bright and there is no adjustment point where the drivers can control the brightness. the light is too bright that it distracts the view in the night driving also it makes the eyes tired so quickly.. toyota should help to fix this problem .. *tr

I was driving my 2007 toyota camry when sparks flew from under the drivers side front seat, then came a popping sound. this happened again, but this time a flame came after the sparks. i was driving around 55 mph whenever this happened, and i was on a very busy freeway during rush hour (5:30 p.m.) traffic. i was able to pull off to the shoulder, but by then the fire was spreading across the drivers seat. i was able to stop by using the tip of my toes to apply the brakes. the fire burned my pant legs significantly, while burning a couple areas of my calves. the fire department was able to put the fire out, but by then my car was totaled. the fireman and my insurance investigator stated that they believed the fire started because of electrical, which may have been from my power seats. luckily, myself nor anyone else was killed during this horrendous ordeal.

The driver side power window master switch started to smoke, after starting my vehicle and pressing the switch to roll down my windows. i turned the vehicle off and my car filled with smoke. i immediately called the fire department. once the fire department arrived my car was no longer smoking. the firefighters could not tell me what caused the smoke but stated it was not safe for me to drive the vehicle. they recommended i have my car towed to the dealership because there was a strong smell of melted electrical wires. i had my car towed to a toyota dealership and they stated my master switch was shorting out and it was not covered under my warranty because my mileage was past 35,000 for electrical problems. *tr

My 2007 camry xle is equipped with a smart key system. when i enter the car i depress the foot break peddle and wait for the green light on the start button to turn green when it does i start the car. but some time there is no light yellow or green. i wait a short while and try again and maybe there is a green light or a yellow light or nothing. i changed the remote battery but that did not solve the problem. i called the dealer they told me to bring the camry in for a test and the cost will be $ 90.00 i think this is not fair. i talked to several camry owners and they all have the same problem help please.[xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2007 toyota camry. while driving 55 mph, the contact noticed that the console caught fire. the fire department arrived and extinguished the fire. the vehicle was destroyed. the dealer sent an investigator to inspect the vehicle and he is waiting for a response. a police report was filed. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the current and failure mileages were 32,000.

2007 toyota camry. initially when the car was turned on the brake light, and abs light would come on along with the tachometer, speedometer would begin racing while in park. at this time the engine cooling system would go down to "c" this happened half a dozen times and it was taken to toyota dealers. i spent 618.00 for repairs and i was told the car was fixed. toyota dealer also stated i was able to drive the car and there would be no problems. after spending money for repairs within 24 hours the problem began again. now this time not only when you were in park would the lights come on the began coming on while i was driving. so i could not tell what speeds i was doing and unable to tell if i had brakes when the light came on. so it was taken back to the same dealership and this time they want to replace skid control ecu/actuator per tech line and want me to spend over 2000.00 to fix the problem even though i have a bill of sale that states problem was fixed just days before. *tr

I took my 2007 toyota camry for it's 15,000 mile checkup and the mechanic said that the ignition key fell apart when he turned it in the ignition. the key used was my spare key which i keep in a drawer at home. my mileage at the time was 15,203 miles. i contacted toyota and was told to take it to a dealer which i did and they contacted toyota by phone and was told the key was not under warranty. i paid $386.76 for a new key. the key had to be defective in order to fall apart the way that it did. i wrote toyota explaining all of this and requested that they reimburse me but was told "not under warranty" therefore they cannot reimburse me. i feel that this incident should be documented for future reference. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 toyota camry. the contact stated when putting the key in the ignition, the key would remain stuck and he was unable to remove the key. a locksmith was contacted and was able to remove the key from the ignition. the manufacturer was contacted but would not provide any assistance. the failure mileage was 7,800.

As i was driving i noticed a smell of something burning coming from my car. as i accelerated the smell increased. i had my two children in the car and we were driving. i pulled over, checked my oil, brakes fluid and tires to make sure everything was normal, which it was. as i drove away i began to smell the smoke again. i continued driving down the street my car filled with smoke and sparks came from the driver's side. in a panic, i immediately pulled over, took my children out of the car as soon as possible and ran across a busy intersection. i later called my insurance company and toyota. the dealer actually made jokes about us being "in a fire". once they found out my car was under warranty they said they would fix it. i told them i wanted my insurance company to come out and see the damage before they did any repairs. they ignored my request and replaced the parts within 12 hours. my car smelled of smoke and fire for months, they refused to detail or replace any of the interior and every time the adjustor came to see the car. they had all of the windows completely down. i reported my complaints and incident to the main toyota office via email. i even sent pictures of the burned parts which i confiscated from the dealer. i recently read of your agency having only reported six of these cases in the atlanta journal. i wanted to let you know that there are more. i didn't want the car back and was afraid for mine and my families safety. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 toyota camry. the contact stated that the front driver's door caught on fire while driving. the vehicle was towed to an authorized dealer and the dealer stated that the electronic circuits on the door caused the failure. the vehicle was repaired. the failure mileage was 57,000 and the current mileage was 85,000. updated 06/06/12 *js

The only thing i noticed before this incident happened was the passenger side window stopped working a month before and that same week i noticed my bright lights would not turn on. then on 3/18/10 my 2007 toyota camry caught on fire while driving. i turned on car as i was driving i started to smell smoke. i looked down and seen smoke coming out of the drivers side window switch. by the time i was able to pull over, park and open my car door park flames started coming out of the drivers side door panel. due to my vehicle warranty being expired the toyota dealership made me go threw my insurance company refusing to even touch the car. i was told that the fire was the first of that kind that they have heard of. i was told the fire started by the wiring in the door but what caused the wiring to catch on fire. they told me that all the wiring in the door and the door panel is being replaced. as of now the dealership is holding the parts until toyota product liability claims department contacts them. *tr

My 2007 camry hesitates when trying to accelerate from a standstill, and rpm keeps dropping from 2000 rpm to 1000 rpm for a second and back to 2000 rpm as i'm trying to maintain speed. it could make my car to slide on icy road because of this engine braking, and it happens every time i just touch gas pedal and let go rpm drops and goes back to cruising rpm all in 1 second. this happens as soon as i remove my foot of the gas pedal, causing like braking feeling. i told toyota dealership in guelph, ontario about this problem but their master service advisor craig allen says that is normal. i believe that there is electronic throttle issue. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 toyota camry. the contact stated that while the vehicle was parked, he noticed a foreign piece of rubber foam on the ground near the vehicle. the check engine warning light illuminated on the warning panel upon starting the vehicle and remained illuminated. the dealer stated that the electrical wiring had been gnawed on by a rodent. the dealer repaired the vehicle. the failure mileage was 27,945 and the current mileage was 28,000.

2007 toyota camry. consumer states unintended acceleration. *tgw the consumer stated in 2007 he reported to toyota an accelerator problem. there was a hesitation when pressing the pedal. after stating nothing was wrong, toyota provided an internal bulletin; not a public bulletin to germain toyota of sarasota as a result the dealer used a computer to recalibrate the ecm. updated 04/06/10.*jb the consumer stated he received a recall notice in the mail regarding the sudden accelerated problem. the consumer believed the sudden acceleration problem was due to the ecm. updated 04/21/10

2007 toyota camry xle -- i saw something on tv that there may be in an issue with power grids/electro magnetic fields and the newer camry's. my wife has a 2007 camry and there is full block in downtown tampa (next to teco our hq for power in tampa) that her push-button start will absolutely not work. initially, i thought it was a battery issue with the responder and replaced it. the push button start worked everywhere except next to this grid and is still an issue -- we have to park one block away to go to that area. although, there are no direct safety issues with this issue it may be good information for your overall study. there is definitely something there preventing her car to work correctly. other vehicles in this same area have the same issue.

Tl*the contact owns a 2007 toyota camry. the contact was driving approximately between 30-35 mph on normal conditions. the "cruise control control" warning light illuminated on the instrument panel. there were several attempts of braking and the warning indicator remained illuminated until the engine was turned off. the failure occurred intermittent. in addition, there was an increase of acceleration unexpectedly. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer. there was a recall under nhtsa campaign id number 10v017000 (vehicle speed control:accelerator pedal). the vehicle was repaired for the recall defect. the technician was unable to locate the electrical malfunction with the warning indicator. the vin was unavailable. the failure mileage was 69,000.

After putting the 2007 camry on cruise control at 62 mph it went up to 85 mph. this happened twice in one day. i no longer use cruise control

This is more for your internal investigation of toyota. i work in automotive supplier business for headliners. starting in 2007 on camry and other vehicles toyota installed carbon fiber based headliners, which have been know to create electronic fields that interfere with unshielded car electronics...we used to joke that toyota had to invest another $10-15 per car to fix electronic issues related to its already over-priced headliner, shortly after cars were introduced. *tr

I have a 2007 japanese-made camry. i bought at a premium (well above invoice and above msrp because servco hawaii does not give discounts) thinking i was paying for a reliable and well-made vehicle. i have had other toyotas but none with as many problems as this vehicle. and, with all the news of accelerator problems, i would like my problems checked and not be charged for it. i do not like the idea of having to pay $103 (1hr labor) x 3 different accelerator issues + another $103 to see why there is the smell of gasoline coming from the a/c vent. 1. when stepping on the accelerator, i will get no response... i continue to depress the gas, still no response. then finally, the car will thrust forward violently. this has been mentioned to toyota hawaii dealer several times saying it was normal for drive by wire vehicle and that it will take some getting used to. 2. when accelerating slowly, the car will rev high without the automatic transmission upshifting.. i have to depress the gas more and the car will rev even higher before upshifting. 3. on 2 different times, the car has revved and jumped forward while not in gear. the first time was at an intersection. i shifted into neutral with the p-brake on and it felt as if someone hit my car from the rear. the car jumped into the busy crosswalk about 2 feet until i hit the brake pedal and shifted it back into drive. another time was at the drive-thru window in park. the car didn't move but jerked violently. both were on flat surfaces. 4. when under heavy acceleration, the car sometimes give off the smell of gasoline. it is not exhaust fumes but smells of raw gasoline. a/c in recirculate mode. i also have been having numerous other quality problems with excessive rattling of trim and door ajar alarm going off for no reason. *tr

The vehicle is a 2007 toyota camry xle sedan. while driving locally, the electronic instrument cluster in front of the driver which contains all of the operational information about the vehicle (speedometer, tachometer, fuel and oil gauges, all safety monitoring indicators, odometer, etc.) had a total power failure. everything went totally black and nothing was visible. about 5 seconds later, everything returned to normal operation. the failure is not reproducible for the car dealership to diagnose, so they do not know how to fix it or where to start looking. this would seem to represent a serious safety hazard where the driver is suddenly operating the vehicle "blind".*cw

Tl*the contact owns a 2007 toyota camry hybrid. the contact was driving approximately 2 mph in reverse on a slight incline in the driveway. the hybrid system overheated warning light and master warning light indicators illuminated on the instrument panel. while pressure was applied on the accelerator pedal there was no power response. unexpectedly, the vehicle rolled forward with the gear shifter in the reverse position. the engine was turned off. the vehicle restarted after waiting a period of eight to ten minutes and resumed normally. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for inspection on four separate occasions for the identical failures. the technician stated the problem was a natural characteristic of the vehicle. the failure continued to occur. the failure mileage was 34,717.

Since i purchased my 2007 camry in june 2007, i have experienced an electrical problem where my console lights (dashboard, stereo, etc.) dim and brighten sporadically. i drive and the lights will suddenly brighten dramatically. it will repeat during the duration of my trip. it happens every time that i drive at night, from the first night i drove home with a new car. it is unrelated to acceleration/deceleration or anything i do mechanically. none of the dashboard controls change when the lights brighten and dim. it is only visible at night, although the problem likely occurs continuously. i am concerned that this indicates a deeper electrical problem that might be related to the ongoing problems with toyota. *tw

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 toyota camry. the push button starter failed to activate. the ignition failed to start after several attempts. however, the vehicle started after waiting for three to five minutes. the vehicle was able to continue in normal operation. the failure occurred intermittent which required a waiting period before an activation response. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for diagnostic testing. a new starter button was ordered. the vehicle has not been repaired due to the unavailability of the part. the failure mileage was 7,800. the vin was unavailable.

2007 toyota camry. consumer requests reimbursement for a replacement battery. the consumer stated the vehicle would not start, due to a dead battery. the battery cables were heavily corroded. the consumer also stated he experienced sudden acceleration while driving the vehicle, before the recall was performed.*jb

The vehicle it has been burn/using to much oil, at least 4-5 times a week i need to add oil. the second problem is the phone car charger outlet and the cigarette lighter it's not working, and i tried to check the source on the bottom of the steering wheel all the socket, all of them is working/not broken. and also on the tape screen, it's happend only sometimes, it's suddenly the screen goes blank and after i put the pressure by pressing down on the screen it comes back to normal again. and i just find out that toyota

I own a 2007 toyota camry i had a accident in the vehicle on september 17, 2009 in jackson, tn. i told the officers and the insurance company that i tried to stop but was unable to i also told them that something was wrong it would not stop until i went into a ditch. two days later toyota did a recall on the floor mats. i found out about the floor mats this year in february 2010. i contacted toyota and found out that they had the wrong name as being the owner and said they would get me the recall information mailed to my home. the company did send me the information i called the local toyota dealership her and they told me i could bring my vehicle in. it states on the papers that toyota will replace the pedal with a new one if i wanted to wait for it in and that they would replace the older all weather floor mats and clean the carpet. this did not happen for me i now have the same dirty floor that i had before i took it to them and now i'm riding in a rental car because since they put the reinforcement bar on my car the check engine light has come on and i'm afraid even more to drive the car i took it to the dealership and they told corporate that i would have to pay them to check out the car and my manual says that if this light comes on that it is the electronic throttle, the dealership told me it could be up to 200 different things and that unless i pay for this they would not do anything to assist me i can write a letter to the claims department but there is no guarantee that they will reimburse me for my rental or for fixing the vehicle, also that my floor mats are now aftermarket mats and the will not do anything to them either nor my floor please do something they are not fixing these vehicles and are not standing by there word i can not afford to pay anymore money to get this vehicle fix and detailed and i have no other means of transportation. the people at corporate say they are sticking by the dealership and i need to pay to get this fixed! ...

Tl*the contact owns a 2007 toyota camry. he stated that while driving 70 mph the gauges on the instrument panel failed; then the engine stalled. he was able to pull to the side of the road and restart the vehicle. as a consequence his risk for vehicle crash was increased. the vehicle was taken to a dealer for inspection. however because he would be charged for diagnostic testing the vehicle was not inspected or repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 24,193. the current mileage was 24,440. updated 10/09/09 *cn the consumer stated the dealer replaced the keys. the key case had a crack in it. updated 10/16/09

2007 camry xle. problems with hesitation when accelerating. the dealership just blew me off when i explained the problem. acted as if this was never a problem with camrys. also have had problems with steering column's radio controls - when pressing the appropriate buttons, nothing would happen or, when seeking stations that were programmed in, the down or up buttons would jump to other stations not programmed. since this problem is erratic, nothing was done by dealer. problems with the outdoor temperature gauge - at times, it would take 15-20 minutes before the temperature would change to the correct one. example: it read 77 degrees when it was actually in the mid-90s. dealership did repair this last summer but now, it is reading seven+ degrees off the actual outdoor temperature. the final problem with this car is that the paint is chipping off of the frame area below the doors of the car. this has never happened with any previous car i have owned. dealer attributed it to the fact that this car is the sport version so it rides lower. first toyota i have owned and it looks like it may be my last. *tr

1) front headlamps burn weak and plastic lens covers yellowed over time, latter problem of which is that lenses can't be cleaned by either commercial auto solvents or by local mechanic, creating safety hazard for driving at night. price quoted for parts alone via toyota is $818 for headlamp set, plus labor. i have owned 2 other camry models and never had any issue with headlamp obfuscation due to lens material or bulb composition. this vehicle's headlamp lens composition is filmy to cloudy to naked eye in daylight, not nearly crystal clear as when new.. even if bulbs were replaced the lens would obscure radius and length of headlamp for any night distance driving other than heavily lit streets. must use high beams at night when possible and when not hazard to oncoming drivers. even high beam distance dull. noticed while driving on highway and other cars illuminate their own pathway far better than my own. night time driving on rural, semi-rural, county, suburban or unlighted state and local highways in particular are a hazard. 2) engine has regularly burned 1 quart of oil about every 1,000 miles since car had clocked 60k miles. underwent oil test under extended recall bulletin via toyota and it deemed car within specs (time of year and type of oil can vary amount of oil burned but recommended 5w20 results in 2-3 quarts a month burned off, no leaks, 75% highway driving.). bigger issue is oil can get dangerously low (at least quarter inch below dipstick low level) and no dashboard warning light comes on. oil levels must be checked manually at least weekly and/or at fill-up to ensure oil tank has enough oil. generally have been adding 2 to 3 quarts a month. despite tech bulletin recommendations, toyota says i am ineligible for mechanical remediation. car currently runs and has 160k miles +/- on it. date below is approximate for 60k mileage..

S10 appropriate handling re toyota problems fm owner of a 2007 toyota camry. *tgw when the consumer attempted to start the vehicle, it wouldn't start. the consumer checked the oil and discovered there was no oil on the dipstick. the dealer kept the vehicle for three days to replace the battery, alternator and cables. the dealer advised the consumer to check with another dealer about the vehicle burning oil. the oil was about 2.3 quarts low. the short block, gaskets and seals were replaced. a couple of week later, oil was on the garage floor. the consumer returned to the dealer and they replaced the seal again. *jb

I bought my toyota camry brand new from ed morse toyota of delray beach florida in aug 2007, it was a brand new 2007 camry le, six cylinder, i reported on numerous occasions at the dealership that the car would stop or hesitate, they never fixed the problem, today on 3/16/2008 at 11:02am the hesitation contributed to me having a severe accident and was reported to fhp report# fhpl090ff014673 i had brought in the vehicle for hesitation issues on 10/17/2007,11/28/2008, 2/25/2009. *tr

The us federal trade commission has determined in its 2006 & 2007 reports that the toyota camry was the highest listed vehicle to be arbitrated. the failure i encountered was that the vehicle failed to move or react when you applied the gas pedal, this is due to a serious gap in response time due to the toyota "drive by wire" process, software flash updates per the tsb-ecm are not solving the problem, which led to my accident, this problem may have the potential for causing serious injury or death as a result of not being able to accelerate out of harms way. i encourage toyota camry owners to return their vehicles per their states respective lemon laws or the federal magnuson-moss act. 2006 toyota has the highest complaint rating, 286 complaints, totaling 83.9% of the complaints. toyota has the top 3 spots for complaints on their vehicles the toyota camry was the most complained about vehicle from everyone in all groups 42 complaints, totaling 12.3% of all complaints. 2007 again toyota took 85 complaints, totaling 84.2% the top 3 vehicles were from toyota, the camry again is in place number 3 12 total complaints, totaling 11.9%, the highest now 2 years in a row. the reports were obtained from http://www.ncdsusa.org. *tr

It has been noticed that there is a battery issue which allows for acid to seep onto the battery cables and leaves acid on top of battery terminal and cables. i know of several other toyota camry owners that have this exact same problem that affects their vehicle. this acid is corrosive and has lead to damaged components in the engine compartment. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 toyota camry. the contact stated that the air conditioning compressor failed. when the air conditioning compressor was activated, it caused the vehicle to vibrate with force. the failure was experienced numerous times. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection. the air conditioning system was cleaned however, the failure was not corrected. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 15,516 and the current mileage was 58,371.

Intermittently, the vehicle will not respond to the throttle. the problem happens frequently, particularly when i brake and decelerate from above 30mph, then make a turn, such as exiting an off ramp, at about 5-20 mph, i press the accelerator to accelerate out of the turn, and the throttle does not respond for about 3 to 15 seconds. i consider this a serious safety issue where i cannot depend on the vehicle responding to the throttle allowing me to control the vehicle. this problem happens under other circumstances, and is completely unpredictable, but the above scenario is the most consistent. i took the vehicle to toyota for this issue for the second time and was told: '..that is the way it is..' and "..this is how the fly-by-wire system works in the camry.." by the service tech of power toyota irvine on tuesday apr 29. he acknowledged that it is a safety issue and encouraged me to speak with the tech robert who knows how to work around the issue by manipulating the throttle and recommended that i complain directly to toyota. he also mentioned that if i bug toyota, they will be motivated to '.. fix the software, put a new computer in it, or take care of you some other way..' *tr

On 7/31/2007, i purchased a brand new toyota camry se from knoxville toyota. on april 20, 2008, i was driving my toyota camry se westbound on route 26 just west of columbia, sc, at a speed of 60mph. i then hit my cruise control to increase the speed to pass a vehicle, when my accelerator stuck and my speed went almost immediately to 105 mph. all efforts to unstick my accelerator failed me.( i am a 54 yr old retired fbi special agent who has often been in high speed pursuit- so i know how to handle vehicles at high speeds) traffic was relatively heavy, with a couple 18 wheelers, and several cars with families in front of me. i recalled there being a flyer of warning by toyota on rubber mats, so i reached down, yanked the rubber mat off the floor and threw it into the back seat, all the while standing on the brake pedal, trying to get the car not to hit vehicles in front of me. finally i put the car in neutral and coasted the car out of traffic. smoke was coming out of my front brakes, and once on the right side median, i turned the car off. let it cool down, then got back on rt 26. less than five minutes later, while passing a slower vehicle, my accelerator stuck again, and the speed got to 95 mph before i put the car in neutral again and turned it off. i brought my car into the knoxville toyota dealership 4/21/08 (complaint of 4/21/08 was documented at toyota knoxville, po box 30069, knoxville tn.)and they put it on their machine and said "nothing was wrong." for the next year, i experienced shimming of my front tires when braking. on 5/5/09, i paid over $171 to repair warped rotors. when the re-call occurred, i reminded them of my event, which appears to have been an electronic issue involving my cruise control on the first event. they put my car in to have their "fix" done to my accelerator, however i am not convinced it fixed my issue. i am very concerned that toyota has hidden this problem from its customers, and i am not convinced this vehicle is safe. *tr

My 2007 toyota camry hesitates when you first press on the gas. it has happened as long as 3 seconds. from a stopped position, pulling out on to a hwy. and going left, my car got me out on to the hwy. but then hesitated. i was still pressing on the gas heavily, but my car was not going! i would estimate about 3 seconds. i had an oncoming car traveling toward me and i was stopped in his lane unable to do anything. this hesitation happens frequently. i would say this happens several times everytime i drive my car. toyota service dept. says he has had several complaints regarding this issue and this year and make. he knew what i was talking about as soon as i made the call to him regarding the problem. he said that it is a problem with the main computer in the car. i took it in and they had to preform an "ecu update' which he said basically is resetting the computer. sounds easy, but it took them 2hrs to complete. i am afraid someone is going to be killed due to this "ecu" problem! i could have been!!! *tr

I own a toyota camry 2007 se. i have repeatedly taken the car back to the dealership for service for a problem reported by others: momentary hesitation in acceleration when stepping on the gas. i have had the computer reprogrammed several times and the dealership tells me this is just how it is made. it is dangerous when trying to accelerate at a critical time. in addition, i had another odd experience. i had started the car while in my garage, fastened my seat belt, put my foot on the brake, and unfortunately reached for the open car door at the same time i put the car in reverse. the car lurched backward while my foot was still on the brake, the car door took out shelving and my chest freezer and the wheels were still spinning and had to turn the car off. needless to say it caused property damage and over $3,000 damage to my car. of course i took the car to the dealership immediately and they checked it and said that there was no problem with the car and that they had never heard of this before. there were no bulletins on this issue. they made me feel stupid and said that obviously i had my foot on the gas. i know that my foot was on the break. with all of the recall issues, i am becoming frightened about driving this car!! *tr

After slowing to make a right or left turn, the accelerator "sticks" preventing/slowing acceleration in order to complete the turn out of the intersection and clear of oncoming traffic. judging from internet sites through google, this is a problem that toyota dealerships (mine included) are aware of, but do not want to do anything about. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2007 toyota camry. while driving 35 mph, the contact noticed that other motorists were becoming impatient with him. while driving 70 mph, he used the gps to check the speedometer and it indicated that he was traveling 63 mph. the dealer stated that was between the tolerance and the manufacturer stated that was within the national safety standards. he was advised to call nhtsa if he had questions about the standard. the current mileage was 28,000 and failure mileage was 20,000. updated 02/14/08. *lj updated 02/14/08 *tr

2007 toyota camry xle with smart key , keyless ignition. page 320 of the owners manual states caution "do not touch the engine start stop switch while driving", in bracketed yellow background. next paragraph states in regular bw print; "if you have to make an emergency stop, press and hold the engine start switch for more than three seconds. the fallacy of this is the vehicle speed must be under 3 mph. if you apply the emergency brake/parking brake the engine will quit at below 40 mph. i went thru several tests to determine this flaw. this is poor design. i have heard via tv that the lexus 350 ,almost same vehicle as camry xle except for nicer interior and seats, has an uncommanded acceleration problem. probably all 2007 lexus vehicles have keyless ( smart key) ignition. if you were traveling at 70 mph and got uncommanded acceleration with smart key you would be in a bad situation. i have not had an uncommanded acceleration and do not want one at interstate speeds. *tr

Car hesitated badly on acceleration. at first the dealer said it was because of the way the accelerator was connected through a wire to the computer, but was a safety issue ,and needed to be investigated by the federal government if necessary. i will state my dealer was now trying to rectify the issue because it has also effected the gas mileage, and a see it as a safety hazard. if necessary i will contact the attorney general of my home state because i see this as a non perfected piece of equipment put upon the public . *ak
