We have classified the 155 complaints from 2007 Toyota Camry Hybrid about VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL into the following categories.
My car will not let me accelerate past 40mph. once i do pass 40mph my check engine light and check hybrid system light comes on and the car shuts down right after. this is all when driving the vehicle. the first time happened on the highway when i went 65 and it cut straight out.
On my 2007 camry hybrid, as i was reversing, the brakes all of a sudden engaged, braking so hard it felt like i hit something. soon after, the brake light, traction control and abs lights turned on, and check vsc system displayed. vsc warning lights and display message intermittently turn off and turn back on arbitrarily.
I was driving on the road at a speed of 35 miles per hour and all of a sudden the "check vsc system" light turned on my dashboard and the brake of the car became loose. when i try to slow the car down by applying the brake, it wouldn't let me do so. i was approaching the traffic light and i had to press the brake too hard so that the car can stop. finally, i was able to stop it by applying the emergency brake.
On my 2007 camry hybrid, as i was backing up, the brakes went soft to the floor, and then all of a sudden engaged. it braked so hard, it felt like a hit something. a few days later, the brake light, traction control and abs lights turned on, and check vsc system displayed.
As i was traveling on i75 north of atlanta, i needed to slow for traffic congestion. i applied the brakes, but they didn't seem to work. several lights on the dash came on including the check hybrid engine, the check vsc system, and the abs lights. the power brakes were off and it became difficult to stop. then the vehicle's engine stopped completely requiring me to maneuver out of heavy traffic to the shoulder of the road. i turned on my hazard lights, but was almost hit by several vehicles as i got to the shoulder.
Car brake fails with multiple lights on. ( vsc system check , abs , brake , etc ) it was repaired by toyota dealer under "toyota recall" program for "brake-fluid problem" . but they didn't repair " abs actuator" under warranty enhancement program (ze1). & manager said your vin is/was not eligible for ze1. i looked into "ze1" program, http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/acms/cs/jaxrs/download/doc/ucm458138/inot-pe14001-59690.pdf but i don't see my vin in the range provided., not sure why. since my car is 2007 camry hybrid, it should be part of that recall also. this is life threatening situation where your car breaks fail all of sudden on highways. these cars should be recalled or atleast get repaired at toyota's cost. *tr
I was driving on a city street and got a check vsc system on the console and when a mechanic checked the problem, he gave the code - c1391 - abnormal leak in actuator, my brake lights are on, abs lights are on, red triangle light is on. *tr
The abs light and check vsc light and brake light went on. when i tried to apply brakes to stop, i realized that the brakes completely failed. the car was skidding and keep going and i pumped the brakes and still the car was moving forward. i came close to hitting another car and luckily stopped couple of inches from the other car. it keeps happening often and i am worried to drive this car as it is. it works fine and suddenly goes to this brake failing mode. especially happen more often if it rains and making it more dangerous.
While my car was in motion, my vsc system check light was on and almost simultaneously the check hybrid system light was on along with the check engine light. the car did not let me accelerate above 30mph.n and i could feel the friction while accelerating. i had to call roadside assistance to have my car towed.
While driving on city street, check vsc system warning appeared along with check engine/stability/antilock brake warning lights. vehicle did not lose braking completely but did not feel normal and was brought to side of road. after restart was lights cleared and has behaved normally so far. brought to dealer next day, unable to find problem.
Driving at 40 mph, check vsc system, brake, traction , warning lights came on simultaneously, vehicle experienced immediate loss of brakes and power steering. needed to use emergency braking and down shift to bring car to complete stop. was on suburban area paved road and was going straight.
When braking for a yellow stoplight. i lost all brakes and brake pressure. several indicator lights including the abs light as well as a message "check vsc system". there were no vehicles next to me so i was able to change lanes to clear traffic in oncoming turn lanes and pass through the intersection safely. the brakes reengaged at the next application of the brake. we drove the vehicle home and the event occurred at each stop, approx 10 occurrences, depressing the brake and failing with the errors above then redepressing to engage the system. *tr
Braking went very soft. check vsc system warning message appeared along with multiple dash light and additional error message to check hybrid system. *tr
Check vsc warning indicator came on when driving my 2007 toyota camry hybrid this afternoon. when that was on, my car was dragging as if the emergency brakes were on. so i drove very slow when this took place, in an attempt to get home since i was only a few miles from where i lived. in about 5-7 minutes, when i had stopped at a red light, this warning went off and the car worked as it normally has. when i got home and googled this for my car, a number of articles came up about a possible recall for this issue for 2007 toyota camry hybrids. can you please advise on the status of the possible recall for this issue with this car? *tr
on 20 march 2015, while starting the car, a warning indicator showed up on my instrument panel. the indicator stated ( check hybrid system.....vsc system ). i parked the car for the day. day 2, i took the car to a auto shop and had a basic scan that reads abs codes performed on the car. the basic scan reveled to "replace battery pack". two mechanics informed me while performing the scan, a burning odor was observed from the car. i drove the car home and parked it. i lastly observed the only information displayed from the instrument panel was " check hybrid system". the only lights on were the warning light and the engine light. *tr
"check vsc system" . brake system will not work properly. must push very hard to get any braking. then the vsc will engage and brake very hard. i experienced this one week ago; my wife experienced it this morning dropping of the kids to school. the car has a very dangerous jerking action as the brakes engage and disengage based on the computer. *tr
I was getting off of the highway. i started to decelerate and i lost a majority of my brake power. all of the lights on my dash came on, and my display said check vsc system. i pulled onto the shoulder was slamming on my brake since i had very little brake power at this point. i turned off my car and turned it back on several times. the lights stayed illuminated. i was 1/2 a mile from work at this point. i drove with my hazard lights on and took it slow to work. when i got to work and pulled into the parking lot, the lights went off. *tr
While driving all brake lights lit up on dash, "vsc check system" message showed. but the car seemed to brake fine, until i went to park. the brake went completely soft and the car continued forward motion until running into the curb. upon restarting the car all the lights were back to normal. it happened again later in the day, lights come on, brakes fail. luckily i was going very slowly and able to stop the car by pumping the brakes. *tr
While driving to the market at 40mph a series of warnings came on. the "check vsc system", the brake light, abs, skid, parking light, and general warning light came on the dashboard and the car lost its braking power. i had to push down very hard on the brake and use the emergency brake to stop the car. so far it has happened twice. according to the toyota dealership, there is no record of the errors or lack of brake power in the computer and they say they can't duplicate it. i am not driving it now because i am concerned about crashing. *tr
While driving, 4 light appeared: the master warning light, the brake light, the abs light, and the yellow warning light, along with the message "check vsc system". after this happened, i pulled over and turned off the car. now when pressing the brake pedal to start the car, i hear loud irregular clunking sounds, and the green light on the power button doesn't light up for 2 seconds, indicating the car cannot be immediately started. car drives fine, but i'm afraid the brakes will become faulty at any time. *tr
Was very hot outside for 3 weeks straight. on the way to the grocery store check engine light came on with the following 2 readouts on speedometer display: "check vsc" and "check hybrid system". instantly the hybrid part of the vehicle stopped working. brakes changed feel and throttle became very delayed. when i pulled into my driveway and put the transmission into park, the engine started to knock. when i put into drive or neutral the knocking stops. the engine knocked hard in park position as if there are loose pieces of metal crunching. ever since then, the car's hybrid drive doesn't work and check engine light is on, abs light, vsc light p/s light, a red triangle light, and an orange circle with an exclamation point in it. we parked the car and we are not driving it until its fixed. we have 2 toddlers and we aren't going to risk driving it. *tr
Upon starting the automobile, the vsc, abs, brake and other warning lights came on. the break catches and/or must be pumped to come to a complete stop. in addition, the vehicle seems to hyper-accelerate when in idle, especially in reverse. a local dealer/service center says a computerized part must be replaced for $2100. *tr
I was driving from work on the freeway when all of a sudden all my lights on my dashboard popped up, i lost traction control, and the notification panel started beeping check hybrid system and check vsc system. a few days later the vsc went away and then came back so i took it to a dealer ship where they spent 5 hours looking over my car and couldn't tell me what was wrong other then a monitoring system is bad or the battery is bad and quoted me for the system it would be $1700 and the battery around $4000. *tr
I took my car to the toyota for the campaign they have or recall for the brake problem that these camry hybrid have because mine says check vsc, and a lot of light are on but its actually the actuator but they only changed the brake reservoir everything was fine until i made it to the house all the lights came back on the guys from the dealer informed me the reservoir ain't going to fix the problem i bought the car used with 149600 miles only 3 months ago thinking that kind of miles ain't much when it comes to toyota just got the vehicle and can't use it thanks *tr
Car was making barking noise when stepping on the brake. dealer replaced master cylinder, actuator, and brake fluid reservoir. drove the vehicle for two weeks without problem or recurrence. 8/25/14 all the brake warning lights and the vsc system warning came on. no problems with brakes when driving to the dealer. dealer said abs computer needed to be replaced for $1500. my first repair was $780. i wanted to add my complaint about the braking system to those already submitted. *tr
While driving, a notification was given "check vsc system". the abs light as well as the red brake system are on as well. brakes are not as responsive and it is difficult to stop. we will not be able to have the system checked till next week. a search on the internet says this is bad. *tr
Started vehicle, dashboard displayed vsc warning light came on with audible warning. shut off vehicle. waited a minute and restarted vehicle. no warning appeared on dashboard display. drove vehicle approximately 130 miles and parked the vehicle. after 30 minutes started vehicle, vsc warning light came on again with audible warning. the vsc module continued to make a noise after shutting off the engine. re-started vehicle and at shut off vsc was silent. re-started vehicle 60 minutes later, no warning appeared on dashboard display. drove vehicle approximately 130 miles and parked the vehicle. the car had performed well until this time when the warning light first came on. i then read reports on tch vsc failures. i shall not drive the vehicle until it can be repaired. *tr
When i started the car, the dash display said "check vsc system". when i backed the car out of the driveway, the brakes were erratic, either very weak, or very strong. i was unable to control them for safe braking. there was no code in the obd system (i have a obd scan tool.). an internet search indicates that repairs will probably be about $3,000. the car is not be safe to drive until this is repaired. *tr
While turning left in an intersection, the "brake", "warning", "stability" and "abs" warning lights came on as well as "check vsc system". simultaneously, i lost brake power. i drove approximately 2 mi to home with no ability to control my speed using power brakes. instead, the only brakes i had were the equivalent of using the emergency brake; a very hard, jerking motion. the toyota dealer first told me that i was low on brake fluid and i could now pick up my car. i argued that i should have seen an "idiot" light first rather than complete failure of my braking system! 5 days later, and several conversations with corporate, the "skid control computer" was replaced for $2,000! this is such a dangerous failure on an automobile! if i had been on the freeway, there certainly would have been a serious accident! this is unacceptable. please investigate! *tr
While driving on a street at 35 mph hit a bump in the road and the asb and brake lights came on red, and multi-information center showed check vsc system. at the same time a car pulled out in front of me and brakes seemed to not work and required a heavy force on pedal for any stopping action. i was lucky no one was in left lane so i switched to it to keep from hitting the car that pulled out in front of me.took car to shop and need to have abs mod. replaced. *tr
Was slowing down to make a turn vsc error on display loud tone from dash car would not stop until i downshifted and used parking brake if there had been a car in front of me i would have slammed into it full force .someone will get injured from this defect dealer says around $2500 to fix and they stated if i wait probably will be recalled soon...when? *tr
First: i got check vsc system when i made a u-turn. i read the failure code is c1391. so, it means abs accumulator is leaking. i also noticed abs accumulator was pretty noise about two month before. i though it may be a problem, but i did not pay attention on it because i was suffering the engine oil consumption. now, it really died. i got many cases online about this issues and they reported that toyota has redesigned this accumulator, so it means toyota already knew this problem. this is a very important issue. it may cause deadly accident if the brake doesn't work suddenly. in addition, fix this problem needs over two thousands dollars. it should not be paid by owner since this is a design defect. i hope toyota will recall this problem. second, this car's engine piston ring has defect. this causes engine oil consumption. in fact, my car is burning engine oil now. it's about 1500 miles/0.6quart. it will get worse and this also may cause engine failure in the future. *tr
As i was backing up, the brakes went soft to the floor, and then all of a sudden the brakes engaged. it brake so hard, it felt like a hit something. a few days later, the brake light, traction control and abs lights turned on, and check vsc system displayed. i took it to toyota and they said it was code-1391, abnormal leak in accumulator. the cost was going to be $2694.00. i declined the repair, because i don't have money to repair. *tr
While traveling on the highway at speeds of over 60 mph, several warning lights became illuminated simultaneously on the vehicle's dashboard. the lights that were illuminated included the abs indicator, parking brake indicator, and warning light, among others. the text "check vsc system" is also constantly displayed on the vehicle's dashboard. since these warning lights have illuminated, breaking has become more difficult and the vehicle shakes while breaking at low speeds. *tr
Vehicle serviced 3/10/10 under toyota 90l recall campaign. dealership stated all systems functional upon completion. on 5/21/14, in safe road conditions and parking lot speeds <10 mph, driver applied brakes to vehicle in order to pull into parking spot. during braking, vehicle did not slow or stop, but accelerated at a high rate of speed, striking a parking berm and three other vehicles. police report made; driver not cited but was advised to contact toyota re brake failure and acceleration. toyota was contacted; inspection was made by bosch engineering. toyota contends the incident is not a result of any manufacturing defect. toyota provided a technical report containing engineering data without layman's explanation or proof of its contention. toyota was found by the doj to have misled consumers and the govt regarding severity and "resolution: of this issue. on 8/21/14 and 8/22/14 driver was contacted by toyota with a second and separate recall notice #e0u, affecting the vehicle's brake reservoirs, in which clogging and/or low fluid levels "could cause additional warning lamps[...]to illuminate and front brake assist could be temporarily lost." the warning lamp in question did illuminate during the 5/21 incident. legal counsel for driver has advised an independent review of the bosch report and inspection of the brake reservoir; however, the vehicle was totaled and sold at auction by the insurance company's salvage agent. i have initiated an independent review of the bosch report at my own expense. in light of toyota's misleading conduct regarding recall campaign 90l and the subsequent recall #e0u, driver contends that toyota is at fault for the events of 5/21/14.
I have been having off and on occurrences of the "check vsc system" warning with brake, abs, etc. the cost to repair is over $3,000. for the brake actuator / accumulator. brakes still sort of work but it is difficult to stop in a hurry and i'm not sure if i'll totally lose the ability to stop the car in the near future. this is a pretty nasty problem that seems to be common among all of the camry hybrids of this vintage. i hope a recall is issued soon and that toyota can work with customers on this given that the problem costs 10% of what the car was worth brand new to fix. *tr
Driving along a city road in my 2007 camry hybrid (mileage approx. 49k) at about 25-30 mph when i saw the "check vsc system" and "check hybrid system" warnings on mil and simultaneously got no response from pressing either the brake or ignition pedal. car would not go and would not stop. i coasted to the shoulder and the car slowed to a stop (fortunately in a legal parking spot!). i am having it towed to the dealer tomorrow. i will provide an update when i know more. *tr
I wasn't driving my car when all the lights came on. but every brake light on the dash came on and a message read check vsc system. i had noticed that there was a sound the car makes when the car is not on. but i thought it was the car identifying the key was close because i always had the key with me when i would hear this sound. the mechanic who told me what the problem was told me that sound is related to this problem. the only place to get the part is through toyota and estimated cost for the part is $2500. if this is a recurring problem that toyota is aware of why are they not made to recall this item. this is a safety issue. who has that kind of money to make a repair ? *tr
Upon depressing brake pedal (at stop or while moving), a loud "chirping" type noise repeats until brake pedal is released. my local dealer indicated it was the abs brake actuator that may be leaking internally, and that until it leaks externally would be ok to drive, although could be a few days or a few months before needing replacement. they estimated the cost of repair at $3,000.00. about 45 days later, i am getting multiple warning lights on my dashboard, including the abs system, brake light (normally only on when i have the emergency brake engaged), check vsc system, and a general warning symbol. after doing some research online, i see there are up to 59 complaints already filed with the nhtsa regarding this issue, many indicating sudden brake loss. i feel i must take this immediately to a toyota dealer for repair, even at the huge expense, and all while on the road during my family vacation as it may not be safe to drive at this time. *tr
While driving up a slight incline the indicating lights on the dashboard suddenly illuminated - red brake system warning icon, red abs light, red brake light, red master warning light. in addition, the screen displayed "check vsc system" and an audible warning tone sounded. from about 6 months prior to this incident, the brake actuator motor would cycle on/off frequently after a trip. over time, the duration of the on and off cycling after a trip gradually increased from about 30 seconds to approximately 90 seconds. the actuator motor also cycled when opening the door before a trip. other symptoms that surfaced prior to this incident included frequent on/off cycling of the brake actuator motor at traffic light stops and an audible "barking" sound from under the hood. research on the world-wide-web revealed many owners with same symptoms. because the engine in the hybrid cars turn off during normal operation, engine vacuum is not readily available for the power brake assistance as found in conventional automobiles. consequently, the failure of the power assist is due to the inadequate design of the hybrid system. furthermore, i understand that the replacement brake actuator part that toyota provides for the 2007 and 2008 camry hybrids has a different part no. than the original one provided. this strongly suggests that toyota recognizes its original brake actuator has a faulty design. i have not driven the car since this incident for fear of losing the power assist on the brakes. the local toyota dealer has not replied to my inquiry on this matter. i also have a 2009 camry hybrid and although the brake actuator cycles on and off after opening the door before a trip and after the system is shutdown following the trip, the cycle is very short and the duration is no longer than 30 seconds. i do not have any brake problems with the 2009 model. *tr
A week before the incident, heard a humming noise coming from the brake distributor area of the engine when the car was started. it continued at about 1-minute intervals while the car was in motion and also when parked and turned off. it would end within about 5 minutes of being turned off. it seemed as though the brakes were trying to engage or there was insufficient pressure to them. a day before the incident, when the brakes were engaged while driving, there would be a chirping noise as well. then while driving on the highway, every brake-related warning light on the dashboard lit up and a message appeared saying, "maintenance required. check vsc system." the brakes didn't fail, though, so i was able to make it home. this is not the first time i have had vsc system issues in this car. 3 years ago the very same thing happened, again on the highway, where the brake warning lights lit up on the dashboard and the vsc warning message came on as well. for about 3 weeks before that, the brakes were chirping when engaged and also when the car was shut off and parked, they would chirp for a long time as if they were trying to engage then too. it cost me $2100 to replace the module. now it's happening again. i am not prepared to risk brake failure nor pay an exorbitant amount of money on the braking system for this car, again. toyota needs to take responsibility for poor, shoddy design and fix this issue immediately! *tr
Abs actuators is failures on 2007 toyota camry hybrid 71k miles: abs light is on, the e-brake light is on even when the e-brake is disengaged, and the car is saying to check the vsc system. the brakes are also noticeably weaker to the extent that i am afraid to drive my kids!!!!! *tr
On april 12, 2014, as the car was being driven at around 30-35 miles per hour, i was approaching a stop sign and began pressing down on the brakes to come to a stop. as i pressed on the brakes, they seemed not to work. i had to keep pushing down on the brakes with force to finally get try to get the car to stop, at which point the brake lights sensor, the abs sensor, and the vsc sensors all lit up on the dashboard. as i was trying to get the car to stop, the car began swerving and i couldn't get immediate control of the car. the car felt as though it was sliding, the stability of the car was compromised. i honestly thought i was going to crash. on april 17th, 2014,in a separate incident, as i was pulling into a parking lot, i began to slow down, only to apply my brakes and they appeared to not work. once again i had to really push down on the brakes for them to finally work. again, all of the lights lit up on the dashboard (brakes, abs, vsc). it was also difficult to control the car and again, i felt as though i was going to crash. *tr
First incident of brake failure happened on the drive way of my home. starting the car for the morning commute, had the "check vsc" sign and other warning lights lit on the dash. i tried pressing the brake pedal and shutting and restarting the car. after a few tries, the warnings were gone and break paddle felt normal. second incident happened while i was on a freeway traveling at 65 miles an hour. all of a sudden the dash board lit up with warning lights ad i lost the braking power. luckily, i was able pullover without an incident. if the investigation on this subject has stated as of jan 2014, when should we expect to hear from the agency on the outcome? *tr
Upon starting the car, the check vsc alert appeared on the dash indicator screen. user manual instructed me to drive to nearest service center. this is not a safe procedure, as the braking system was near complete malfunction. upon research online, it came to my attention that this is a common problem. the total cost of repair will near $2500. the service technician also informed me that there is a system update for this problem, indicating that toyota is aware of the malfunction. hopefully this complaint will assist in the issuing of a recall for the brake actuator or related vsc system that has been such a persistent issue. thank you. *tr
Driving on freeway at approximately 45 miles per hour during rush hour. brake lights appeared ahead, so i applied brakes. my vehicle failed to stop or slow down and i noticed increased resistance on the brake pedal. i continued to apply pressure to the brake pedal and the vehicle eventually stopped. luckily, there was a good distance between me and the car ahead of me, and i was eventually able to stop and avoid collision. i brought the car to the shop to be checked out. the shop called toyota, and they knew right away exactly what part needed to be replaced. price tag of $2600 for just the part. a week prior to this incident, dash lights came on with warning to "check vsc system". brought the car in for oil change and to check the warning light. no problem was detected, the warning light was reset. this light had come on again just prior to the brake failure. *tr
The check vsc system on. vsc, abs & brake lights lit up. went to the dealer to computer diagnose, they said there is a few code. they want to be pay first before they will give me an estimate for the repair. so i went to a outside repair shop for diagnose cost $35. they said the brake actuator need to be replace. will cost $2000.00. now the abs & traction control is no working. i am afraid this car will cause accident or kill someone. *tr
I have been using this camry since mid 2006. so far it has not had many major issues. however out of the blue on march 23rd 2014, when i was planning to drive to a temple almost 50 miles from my house with my wife, 2 month old daughter, mother and mother-in-law in the car, just as we pulled out of the drive way, the check vsc message came on and the brake light, the car slipping light and the bas lights came on the dash and as i tried to brake, the brakes completely failed. luckily since i was only rolling out of my drive way (in reverse), the car only rolled a little bit and there was no cross traffic on the road. i had to press my parking brakes to bring the car to a halt. i was scared to death with my family members in the car there was no way i was driving it in that condition. i tried shutting off the car and waiting for 5 minutes before turning it on.the message came on again and the brakes were unresponsive. i immediately moved my family to another car to continue our trip. i then cautiously moved the car back on to the driveway with my left leg on the emergency brakes so that i don't run into my house. after searching the web and seeing many such reports, the next day (today 3/24) i tried to move the car again and see if the message disappeared. however it was there and when i reversed a little bit, suddenly the message and the lights disappeared and the brakes were working as normal. i am still not driving the car, thankfully i have 3 cars so i am using the other cars. i hope toyota does a recall on this because i don't want to spend $3500+ on a car that may not be more than $8000 value today. i was planning to get a 2014 sienna soon but reading about the safety issues with toyota's my faith and loyalty in this brand is now severely shaken. *tr
We'll this has been happening for several months. my whole dash is lit up with brake warnings and check vsc on my information panel. a loud solid beep comes and goes. it stays more than it's gone today. basically from time to time my brakes just won't work properly. they are hard to push and it's almost as if it's pumping itself. then , when the abs starts to work, there is a loud thud and a jerk that feels as if as if i am being rear ended. i never know when my brakes are going to work properly. sometimes i have come close to hitting someone, running through red lights, because when they aren't working properly, the stop time is way longer. it is a very scary thing. i will be paying to have my car repaired next week. it is going to cost me 3500 dollars. which 3300 is the part.. this part has been redesigned, that in itself speaks volumes as to weather or not toyota knows what is going on. i have also read that this part for this car is under investigation by the nhtsa. as of now my only hope is to recover my losses if there is a recall. there should be!!! this is very unsafe and not at all normal. *tr
Master, brake, electronically controlled brake, anti-lock brake, and slip indicator warning lights came on as well as 'check vsc system light. *tr
