Recently reported ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING problems on 2000 Suzuki Grand Vitara

Noise coming from timing cover. dealer indicated it was timing chain tensioner. dealer stated this was a common problem and that there is a technical service bulletin (tsb) concerning this issue. total cost to remedy the situation was approx $1600. the engine would need to be pulled from vehicle, oil pan, timing cover removed and three chains, and related tensioners replaced (12.5hrs labor). this problem should be covered either in total or partial by manufacturer. *nm

owner complaints vibration while braking and premature wear. number of other problems with this vehicle. *bf the consumer stated that the brakes squeel like nails on a chalkboard. the consumer was told that the rotors were dusty. the vehicle horn started blowing and would not stop. the consumer was told that it was an electrical problem. the fuse was taken out to stop the horn from working. the tail light bulb went out. the consumer heard a ticking noise coming from the vehicle. the consumer noticed smoke coming through the vents on the inside of the vehicle. the temprature gauge went from cold to hot instantly. the vehicle needs new struts. *tc

2000 grand vitara with 60k miles needs a timing chain tensioner. have been told this part should not need to be replaced at 60k miles. have read information from other suzuki grand vitara owners with similar problems after warranty is expired.

Leak in ac condenser found to be a common problem, leak in same location on several vehicles. pull to right while driving that alighnment cant fix, similar problems reported by other owners. premature wear and vibration of front brakes similar to complaints of other owners. no offer to replace failing condenser by dealer who told me about problem with other condensers they knew about. can not find any contact info on suzuki motors site to complain.

The check engine light illuminated on the vehicle, the dealer informed consumer the catalytic converter needed to be replaced.*jb

Vehicle repair

engine was leaking oil and could have caused a fire. cause unknown. dealer notified.*ak

Vehicle has been leaking oil on top off engine, after 2-3 inspections dealer could not find the leak. oil leak got worse, vehicle lost 3-4 quarts of oil in 50-75 miles. consumer took vehicle to a second dealer. dealer determined oil galley plug to be the cause of the leak.*ak

Vehicle caught fire 5 mintues after consumer parked it, vehicle burned to the ground, dealer stated it was not there problem and suzuki stated that the consumer needed to file this with his insurance, possible engine failure. *slc
