Recently reported AIR BAGS problems on 2011 Subaru Outback

I accepted a recall to replace the passenger air bag by the dealer evenston subaru, 3340 oakton str, skokie, ill, 60076; after this recall replacement was performed, my car had problems like the passenger window did not opperate from the commend button of the same door and the power outlet from the middle console did not have power. the dealer that produced these troubles refuse to support the cost of repair.

Takata recall. i received notice and responded. called subaru dealers and soonest they can schedule is november 2019. roughly 7 months out. this recall is a big deal. this is a safety issue that needs to be repaired in a timely matter. 7 months is to much. within a month is acceptable.

Takata recall. i received the recall 3/3/19 marked "urgent, important safety recall." my subaru dealer in hyannis, ma informed me that i could go on a waiting list since they do not have the replacement parts. they expect to replace the airbag at the end of may or in june. this doesn't feel urgent.

Takata recall - also, wiper motor safety recall. i've attempted to work with subaru to get these two recalls addressed, and made two phone calls in early april, and after being told to wait and be contacted by an approved dealership, there was no follow-up and no appointment set. after several weeks of waiting i contacted subaru again, this time through email on may 20th, and was again told to wait to be contacted by the closest approved dealership, which is more than 40 miles away in my case. throughout the process, subaru has made no attempt to accommodate the distance or time required to perform the repair. still, i've done as they asked and waited to be contacted by my closest approved dealership (chatham parkway subaru), and again there was no follow-up. i've been attempting to get these recalls addressed since april 4th, and have grown increasingly frustrated with how difficult its been to get their attention. i do not know if this is the appropriate avenue to file such a complaint, but i'm unsure of exactly what options are available to me at this point. i just want to have two safety recalls repaired.

Takata airbag recall. no one can tell me if my car needs a new airbag. my granddaughter has to ride in that front seat as there are 3 grand children in the back. i don't want to keep putting her in danger (date below is date i writing this complant

Our 2011 outback wagon was hit on the driver's side by a bus. it was totaled. the side airbag did not deploy. the driver sustained a serious head injury.

Takata recall

Takata recall, no notification for replacement appointment, cannot use front passenger side seat.

I received notification from subaru today that parts are now available to remedy this air bag defect. when i called my dealer, i was told that subaru will only ship a few parts at a time. there are 18 on their waiting list for these parts. some have been waiting 6 months. why doesn't subaru ship the parts needed to make needed repairs? the notice from subaru says not to allow passengers to ride in the front passenger seat until this repair is performed.

Takata recall i am concerned about the airbag recall. our subaru outback is our only vehicle, and it is our family vehicle. my pregnant wife is due with our second child and has been sitting in the back seat. however, that child could come any time. she is a high risk pregnancy with a history of premature birth. at 33 weeks, this is the farthest she's ever come along in a pregnancy. if this baby comes, then it means someone in our family will not be able to sit in our car if we all go out together. the airbag recall fix is urgent for us. we can't really wait much longer, unless subaru wants to rent a larger vehicle for us until the repair can be made. is there anything that can be done so we can have our subaru back to it's original intent as a family vehicle asap?

Takata recall. a subaru dealership replaced the airbag (according to their service records). however, subaru corporate continued to send me recall notices. not sure what happened. 1) they replaced my airbag and forgot to tell subaru. ok outcome 2) they replaced my airbag, and updated a different car with subaru (which won't get recall notices anymore). passengers in that car at at lethal risk now. 3) they didn't replace my airbag, and actually put that airbag into a different car. my passengers are at lethal risk now. i asked the service person to investigate, but he just said "it's done, don't worry" airbag replacement was november 2016. the last service was this week.

Takata recall - have been waiting for over 3 months for the local dealer to acquire parts and fix the problem. as of this morning, they still have no idea when they will have the parts available to fix our vehicle.

Said i could not have anyone ride in passenger seat till fixed. this is unacceptable and had been over a month with no word about when parts are ready. we have to use passenger seat. subaru needs to provide a rental or other transportation. asap.

Takata recall: informed that no one can sit in the passenger seat until parts are replaced and that there are no parts available. our normal usage of the vehicle requires loading in the back and a driver and passenger in the front. local subaru dealers have been unable to find us a loaner vehicle for use until our vehicle is fixed. this is unacceptable.

Takata recall. subaru and takata airbag problems. my outback has a recall and i called subaru corporate about a week ago. i talked to someone because my wife is pregnant and drives our 4 year old girl in the car. my wife doesn't feel safe driving the car (the details of the recall are outlined below). it may be up to 3 months until they get the part to fix it. i was told by subaru corporate to go to the local subaru dealership and they could get us a car from their fleet or a rental from enterprise. when i went to the dealership i was put on a waiting list. i called back to corporate - they called the dealership and then i was told that the dealership doesn't use enterprise and only has their own fleet. i asked if we could get a rental car and get reimbursed and they said no. no resolution yet.

Takada inflators. i received a notice from subaru of america that "parts are now available" to replace my faulty passenger seat airbag. putnam subaru of san francisco will not make an appointment for this recall- they say i am #80 on a waiting list and they are on #11. i tried to make an appointment the first week in may and they said i would have to wait until they called me. i've been waiting a year. i have received a notice from subaru not to use the front passenger seat until the repair is completed (??!!) why am i getting a letter saying "parts are now available" when they are not?

Takata recall. manufacturer notified us in july 2016 about inflators recall. they keep telling us that they are on order. so they keep selling new cars all the time so they are available to them. why can't we get ours fixed?

Takata air bag recall we were notified of a recall for our car about 6 months ago. the dealership informed us of the lack of available parts. we were instructed not to use the passenger seat, essentially rendering our vehicle unusable for 4 to 5 passengers for the past 6 months, nor could the vehicle be sold if we had desired. takata company is unable to comply with the correction in a reasonable period of time. no temporary solution has been offered. takata is responsible to supply the victims with costs for rentals. buy back the vehicle or settle on a reasonable figure for the inconvenience. they are a for profit company and are at risk for the cost of doing business.

Airbag recall this recall was in june and subaru it not taking any appointments to fix the problem.

The passenger seat airbag indicator, with an adult sitting in the seat, randomly shows the airbag on/off. there is no consistency to whether the airbag will show as functioning, which makes the system non-functioning by any measure. this is a key safety feature that subaru advertises and sells vehicles by and it simply does not function. subaru has not acknowledged that there is an issue and their service department claims that they cannot find and error code indicating there is an issue. the implication being that i am making up the issue. this seems to be a similar issue to what was outlined in the 2012 subaru impreza airbag sensor recall. both cases involve the passenger airbag sensor failing with an adult sitting in the seat. if you never know if the airbag is going to work, it is a failure of the system. this isn't a problem that is going to be recognized or fixed without a mandatory recall or a lawsuit.

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 subaru outback. while attempting to park, the contact forgot to shift the lever into the park position but was able to turn the vehicle off. as a result, the vehicle rolled away and crashed into a gate. the air bags failed to deploy. a police report was not filed and there were no injuries. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the dealer was notified of the issue and stated that the vehicle was designed to perform in that manner. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 78,547.

The airbag indicator for the passenger will not remain on, even though the passenger meets the required weight. *tr

The airbag warning lite on the passenger side came on and stayed on for several minutes. after several trips the lite came on again and has stayed on. the result is that the bag is not able to deploy if there is any type of accident that involves the front end. this is very concerning to my family , i try to avoid anyone from riding in the front passenger seat. *tr

Takata recall : multiple dealers have reported that they do not have the parts to fix this airbag recall. i have taken it to more than one dealer in more than one city who has given me the same response. i am currently driving around with these faulty airbags which potentially could harm me in the case of an accident. i would like them replaced as soon as possible.

With no passenger seated, the seat belt chime started ringing. to try to stop it, i latched the passenger seat belt. chiming continued. i notice the air bag warning light was lit. i drove the car straight to my subaru dealer and was told the passenger side air bag sensor had failed. i was also told the only way to fix it was to replace the seat at well over $1000. i was still left with the problem of the seat belt chime. the dealership wouldn't disable the chime so i searched the internet for a solution. what i found is that this is a very common problem with 2011 outbacks. i did also find out how to disable the seat belt chime. because this is such a costly repair and a common problem, i have to believe there are many subaru owners driving around with unprotected passengers having disabling their seat belt chimes and having no air bag protection. in fairness to subaru, i contacted customer service and they offered to split the cost of the repair. it will still cost me $798 for what should be a simple repair but because of poor engineering, a replacement seat. i would appreciate you looking into this matter. *tr

Air bag is not being turned on when a passenger is in the seat. they meet the 80+ weight requirment. *tr

The passenger air is disabled when my wife or daughter sits in the front passenger seat. both weight approximately 120 lbs. we have taken it to the dealer and they say it works as designed but that means my wife and daughter have no air bag protection. subaru states they fixed the problem in the 2012 model. that is no consolation to me. i read the air bag should be disabled for a 5th percentile women which is 107 lbs. this is a common problem in the 2011 outback. *tr

First i will say i am an adult female weighing 120 lbs, sufficient weight to activate airbags. we just purchased this car and went for long trip and i noticed my air bag light was off. i tried to adjust positions and sometimes i could get it to come back on, only to find a few minutes later that is off again, this process was repeated the whole 7 hour trip. we were traveling on snow covered roads so this was very upsetting to not have the air bags working. this is a serious problems that needs to be fixed. what good are safety features in a car if they do not work properly. *tr

we have a subaru outback that we purchased in may 2011. in january 2013 the airbag indicator began to turn off randomly while i was seated in the front passenger seat. it happens intermittently and without any change in behavior or movement on my part we have brought the car to the dealer and they say there is not a problem with the system. i have called the subaru company and they say the system is operating as designed and since the dealer cannot find the problem there is none. the company also state there have been complaints by other people my weight. (117 lbs.) they also state that the airbag will not inflate if the indicator for the airbag is off. i have expressed my fear of not having an airbag in case of an accident to no avail. i feel that this is a serious problem that needs to be addressed . *tr

The vehicle in question was moving at about 35 mph when its front end collided with the side of a car moving slowly across its path. the driver's seatbelt worked properly. the air bag did not deploy. *tr

I believe my anti-lock brakes malfunctioned on my 2011 subaru outback and if this is the case then someone in auto safety data collection needs to know about it. i was driving down an off ramp during snowy conditions. i applied my brakes at around 35 mph and they abruptly locked up. there was no shutter/shimmer effect that i might expect with anti-lock brakes as they go on and off while trying to grip the road. i applied them again with the same jolt followed by sliding. i tried this several times as i approached the intersection. though the long off ramp did slow me down, at about 15 mph (i think) i plowed the left front of my car into the ford ranger in front of me. this impressively crushed the left front side of my car and my air bags did not deploy. the point of impact was the left side of the front bumper, but it hit at the upper 2-3 inches of the bumper. i'm not sure if the airbags should have deployed with this type of impact, but if they were supposed to deploy then someone needs to know about it too. *tr

There seems to be a problem with the front passenger air bag activation sensor. my wife, who weighs approx. 125 lbs, often sits in that seat. the air bag sensor light might go on, or it might not. sometimes she can shift her weight and have it come on. other times it doesn't matter what she does, it will not go on. we can be riding along with the air bag light on and all of a sudden, for no reason, it will go off. then, inexplicably, it might, or might not, come back on. i brought the car to a local subaru dealer who informed me that this is the way the air bag system is made and that there is nothing they can do about it. they said that it is against federal law for them to make any adjustments and that i should just make sure my wife wears her seat belt when we're driving. this is a major irritant, since neither of us can be sure if the passenger air bag will actually deploy should we be in an accident. it seems like something should be done about this, especially now that i've searched this site and found that i am not the only one to experience this problem with the passenger air bag sensor. i joke with my wife that we might need to fatten her up to save her life, but for some reason she just doesn't think it's funny. maybe you folks can look into the problem and do something about it. *kb

The sensor turns off intermittently when my wife sits in the front passenger seat (5 ft, 4 inches, 110 lbs). it will also turn off when she shifts her sitting position. the sensor will remain off, regardless of how she is sitting, for long periods of time (80+ miles) or until i restart the car. i spoke with two subaru dealers and they said that they have seen this issue with lighter passengers and don't thing a recalibration will help due to the sensor's sensitivity. *tr
