Recently reported VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL problems on 2000 Subaru Legacy

Tl* the contact owns a 2000 subaru l wagon. while driving the atf warning light would illuminate on the instrument control panel and then the vehicle would down-shift. the computer, transmission computer, spark plug, oxygen sensor, and coil pack have all been replaced. none of the repairs have remedied the failure. the current mileage was 171,000. the failure mileage was 103,000. updated 11/12/09 *cn the consumer stated the engine light was on most of the time. a local repair shop that works only on subaru's had not idea what was wrong with the vehicle. the dealer stated a throttle position sensor was needed. updated 11/16/09

Dt*: the contact stated the vehicle hesitated when applying the accelerator pedal. this happened every time the pedal was applied. the vehicle was calibrated to factory specifications. other vehicles on the lot were driven and they had the same hesitation. the manufacturer stated this was a common problem with this vehicle. no repairs have been made. *ak updated 01/19/06. *jb

Car was stationary. a/c was on. throttle pedal moved down of its own accord resulting in rear-ending the car in front at below 5mph. likely problem with a/c to throttle linkage.*ak

Engine revved on 3 separate incidents, the last time vehicle went out of control and hit parked car in front as i was attempting to leave parking space. dealer could not "duplicate the condtion" so nothing was done. *ak

Once vehicle was turned and consumer put vehicle in drive, vehicle accelerated, even though consumer had his foot on brake pedal. *ak an independent mechanic who examined the vehicle stated that under full throttle, the brakes do not stop the vehicle and the brake system was not operating properly. *yh

When at a complete stop and heater on, vehicle accelerates about 7 to 8 feet. contacted dealer, and dealer cannot find anything wrong.*ak

While backing up into a parking space, engine raced and the consumer hit another vehicle. when backing up consumer put vehicle into drive and the engine was still racing and vehicle took off. consumer hit a curb and went up over the curb. put the vehicle in reverse, hit a car and then another car, and vehicle started to slow down. tried to put the vehicle into park and the vehicle would'nt go into park. someone was able to put the vehicle into park and was able to turn the vehicle off.*ak
