My 2014 subaru forester was sitting in my garage. i heard this horrible, almost explosive noise and found that my left coil spring snapped! this car has 68k miles and has never carrier heavy loads or traveled rough roads. i drive all highway. super shocking to have this happen while it is just sitting, but i cringe to think if this happened 1 day earlier driving 22 miles from work or with my family. the coil was just completely sheared off. my car is sitting on the crossbar very close to sitting directly on my tire. waiting for the assessment from subaru to see if it caused any additional damage.
Premature rear spring broke. car is 65k miles. rear spring rusted and broke; causes the entire rear suspension to break. this make the car tilted and almost out of control. i was on a local road traveling at 25 mph going straight. i brought the car to star subaru service and was being charged $890.00 to replace rear driver side suspension. upon inspection, the rear passenger side spring also rusted.
Pieces of my rear coils broke off showing badly rusted. some in street some in my garage. vehicle started to drive differently. took to firestone and both rear coils broke and 1 strut as well. subaru knows about this but i did not and took to non subaru place for repairs. so they refused to make good or stand behind their vehicle because i didnt go to a subaru dealer and offered 500 cost me 1556.00. this should have been a recall used metal that rusted and failed.
Rear coil springs broken right and left 01/07/2019 - 27811 miles on car, replaced by dealer during state inspection i did not know they were broken until told by service advisor
Left rear coil spring broken not due to heavy load or rough terrain driving vehicle only has approx. 27,000 miles on it .from what i'm seeing on line and hearing from other owners and dealers, it is a pretty common problem.
Bottom of both left and right rear coil springs broke - at the point where they sit on the lower spring seat of the strut. they both fractured at exactly the same spot on the coil - at the first 1/2 loop of the coil (about 4 inches) and in the same diagonal type of shear. pictures attached of the pieces that broke off each coil. car has only 58,000 miles and never driven off road or overloaded. not exactly sure when they broke - was discovered by my mechanic while doing other work on the car.
Rear coil spring failed after 56,000 miles. it was not a result of any incident. car was well maintained and not driven off road, mostly highway miles.
Both rear coil springs have broken at the bottom coil that rests in the bottom spring base of the strut assembly. mechanic found cracks during safety inspection during brake replacement. as technician was backing vehicle out of the bay a piece of the right hand coil at the bottom of the coil separated from the vehicle. photo attached. lh coil still in the vehicle.
The driver's side rear spring on my 2014 forester with 39,500 miles broke spontaneously while driving under normal conditions. when the car was placed on a lift and raised up at the repair shop the suspension dropped down and the passenger's side spring broke as well. i have never gone off road, towed, or carried heavy loads. looking around online, many others have had this same thing occur. the replacement springs were back-ordered from subaru for several weeks, indicating that many others have had this happen. i believe this is a manufacturing defect and a nationwide recall should occur. luckily i was driving at low speeds when my spring broke but this could potentially be very dangerous.
My left rear spring let go. my car has been in the shop for two weeks now. the suburu dealer stated that they do not have the parts in stock and do not know when they will have them available. i asked them to repair the right rear spring as well because i want both springs replaced at the same time so the car will not be harmed. i did not feel safe driving the vehicle and am disappointed it has taken this long so far. i have not heard from the dealer and am concerned at how long this is going to take to repair. they cannot tell me anything. i feel the springs on the vehicle are not safe and they should be recalled. suburu should pay for the replacement of the springs and not charge me. i did not go over any pot holes. i have very low mileage on my vehicle. i have always been happy with suburu cars (this was my third purchase) but after this incident, i am not certain i will purchase a new suburu vehicle again.
Ac compressor went after 3 years (went at the end of summer last year 2017) and i live in the north east where we only use ac less than half of the year. also rear suspension spring went this year. both of these issues are extremely premature on a 2014 model year vehicle. there are no good after market options for either of these parts so had to use oem (subaru) parts. the springs have been re-enforced with a white coating that is not on the original and they were on back order for 3 weeks (that's after calling about the delay and getting them expedited) showing there is an issue with this part. the springs broke while driving making a very loud bang then feeling very unsafe to drive.
I found a metal piece in my driveway, it is a piece of the rear coil spring. a repair shop advised not to drive the vehicle until the part is replaced, as it is unsafe.. the shop has been unable to locate the replacement part. so i am without transportation
At 60,000 miles, while making a left turn in a level parking lot, the rear passenger spring broke causing the car to sag and shimmy. my mechanic informed me that there was the potential of the broken spring throwing off a piece and that piece rupturing the tire. my driving does not involve rough roads.
When make turns in moving(backward or forward), there is noisy(click) in front wheel suspension
Front passenger side suspension bushing completely disintegrated. three year old vehicle with 55,000 miles. driver side bushing still intact but showing significant signs of wear. the missing bushing is causing sever vibrations while driving on the highway.
Discovered at routine servicing at just over 34k. the front axel seal is leaking. the rear shocks are failing and need replacing. no off road or over bumpy streets driving. this much too early for both of these problems to occur without heavy driving or on uneven surfaces.
Driving at about 60 mph and car starting vibrating violently for a few seconds. continued driving and 10 minutes later same thing for same length of time happened again.
There is metal clicking noise from driver side rear end when running on bumpy or rough roads. driver side rear door felt as if it is not closed properly when this happened. rear end bottomed out when this happened. car feels unstable. this is a consistent problem and it is getting worse and worse. *tr
Subaru corporate recently purchased my 2014 forester back under the lemon law. this was after i had 4 documented incidents of the vehicle veering sporadically out of control around 55 mph. it was inconsistent but the mechanic was able to determine that something was pulling it out of alignment/after this happened it was always out of spec. it was quite dramatic. as in the entire back-end would start to pull out of control. this often happened within icier conditions. while subaru corporate was responsive in getting me a new subaru, i do not feel they at all acknowledged or took my complaint serious. they kept referencing my inconvenience with an alignment issue. if it was as simple as an alignment issue, they could have fixed it the first time. my concern is that others are having this same issue but since it is difficult to replicate and extremely inconsistent, it'd be easy to not acknowledge the seriousness of this issue. since mentioning my frustration to random acquaintances, two individuals have contacted me for additional information because they are having a comparable problem with their forester and/or cross trek. i sent a lengthy description about my safety concerns to subaru corporate which they ignored. perhaps that is an appropriate response but i want to make sure that somebody is looking into this/making sure it is not a more serious issue. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 subaru forester. the contact stated that while driving approximately 55 mph, the rear of the vehicle swayed abnormally. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the lower control arm needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 18,000.
When i purchased my new vehicle last july, i noticed driving it home there was a "clunk" sound coming from the front end when i went over railroad tracks or any bump. i took it back to subaru and they found a bent and twisted part on the right front suspension. i now have 19k on my car a year later. i noticed my right rear tire bald only on the out side. all other tire tread is perfect. so i take it back to subaru and they had it aligned and said the right wheel had been tipped out! i drive my car very easy! i have never hit anything that would cause this malfunction. the tire co. will not replace my worn tire and i am feeling a bit slighted on this as i feel it was likely a problem from the car hauler or something. perhaps too aggressively cinching the car on the trailer...or something! both incidents were on the right side of the car. i feel that i should have at the least a new set of tires! this has been no fault of mine in any way! *tr
