Problems with 2014 RAM 2500 POWER TRAIN

On average, the 2014 RAM 2500 starts to “feel” problems with the POWER TRAIN and its various aspects after 35 714 miles.

Recently reported POWER TRAIN problems on 2014 RAM 2500

Started up my truck to go to town, engine came on about 5 min in the drive so i took it straight to o'reillys where they did the scan and the computer said misfire in cylinder 3. so we changed the spark plugs and took it back to reset the light, started it back up and light came on again with same explanation. so we parked the vehicle until we could find what was going on, talked to a mechanic and he said probably the cam/lifter problem, he looked at the vehicle seen i had a dropped valve seat(very odd for just starting up a vehicle) so we called dodge and they insisted they had to diagnosis it so we paid a towing company to haul it to them. dodge called me back and said dropped valve seat but also cam/lifters need replaced. i dont see how dodge can just say it's on you to fix with this many vehicle owners all having the same problem. this is expensive fixes but not only that i have a truck with a loan payment that i cannot drive till it's fixed.

Driving in my neighborhood about 20 mph coming up to a stop sign hear this howling noise if you will. then when i hear it instantly something grabbed and locked and stopped me! i've been having issues with my transmission slipping, well not slipping but between gears. like the rpms were going up but nothing was moving. i'm not talking about the rpm gauge on the truck going up, it's just a rev up sound. then will catch and go i'm guessing it's all with the transmission. i'm just glad i was only doing 20 mph instead of hwy speed when it locked up

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ram 2500. the contact stated that the transmission line leaked transmission fluid without warning. the contact took the vehicle to vaughn motors (318-346-6367, located at 1102 nw main st, bunkie, la 71322) where it was diagnosed that the bracket fractured that held the frame in the transmission on the front passenger wheel. the technician stated that the frame needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was approximately 70,500. *tt *as

On december 21st, 2018 i took my truck to a car wash. following the initial cleaning the attendant placed the truck in neutral, exited the truck, engaged the track mechanism and walked back to the next truck in line. i was in the glassed in area watching. without warning the truck went to full throttle racing through the car wash tunnel and hitting a toyota van waiting to be moved to the next cleaning point. i watched as the attendant tried to race down the tunnel after the truck. just as the truck struck the van he entered and put the truck in park. the engine slowed from full throttle to what appeared to be normal. i filed a complaint with chrysler. they had a third party run a diagnostic program on my truck. they sent the information to chrysler engineers. i received a phone call telling me chrysler was not responsible for the incident. i have written them again telling them i thought their investigation was incomplete since they spoke to no one on staff at the car wash or review the video of the event. they implied the problem was caused by after market mats. since i was present and observed the incident, i am not satisfied with that explanation and have asked them to state to me in writing my truck is safe to drive. i do not anticipate that happening as i believe they are playing a classic game of cya. there is a video of the event as it happened. *tr *dt *dt*jb

The output shaft for transfer case has broken 2 times both with 20k miles on the truck there are numerous recalls but does not show this year and it needs fixed first time i had 18000 miles on the truck going 35 mph the 2nd time i had 40000 miles going around 25mph

I have been receiving a fault code on my truck for "electronic throttle control" i take it to an auto parts store and dealership to only be told no codes are present, even when they see the light on the dash. since having the code pop up my fuel consumption has increased drastically. my avg mpg went from 14.6mpg to 10.2mpg, with the same driving conditions and same route that i have driven the last 4 years. i have had both the dealership and auto parts store clear the codes that are present, the light goes out. but will return within minutes of driving. but yet no fault codes for it specifically. i have searched the net for this issue and have found several articles on multiple dodge, ram and crystler vehicles doing this same issue with the dealership telling them the same thing. for me to be consuming a larger amount of fuel with driving the same route and conditions this has to be doing something drastic and damaging to the emission and engine.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ram 2500. the contact stated that the vehicle rolled out of the park position and crashed into an air conditioning unit. there was no warning indicator illuminated. the contact experienced a similar failure in the past, but was able to jump back into the vehicle and stop it with the emergency brake. the air bags did not deploy. there were no injuries and a police report was not filed. the vehicle was not damaged. the vehicle was taken to chris nikel chrysler jeep dodge ram fiat (918-355-5000, located at 2920 n aspen ave, broken arrow, ok 74012), but the technician was unable to diagnose the cause of the failure. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the contact later received notification of nhtsa campaign numbers: 17v562000 (engine and engine cooling) and 17v821000 (power train). the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was approximately 55,000. parts distribution disconnect.

There are bolts on the manifold that keep breaking. i have gone into the shop 3 times for call back issues. each time they check my manifold, i have bolts that are broken. 1.5 years ago i replaced 2 bolts. in may of 2018 i replaced 2 bolts. in july of 2018 i replaced 7 bolts. the dealer says they replace bolts on the dodge, every week. they call it a dodge thing. they say it is from the torque, when it heats up. they are breaking while i am driving.

T79 brake transmission shift interlock. my understanding is that a fix for this locking pin has not been created. so this will cause it to possibly shift out of park with out warning. so the part has not broken yet with 91k plus on it. which is not good for sure because it could break at any given time and i pull a lot of trailers. also trying to sell my truck have lost several sells due to it. plus even tried to sell and can not trade it in even. so cant get out from under the truck.

Remedy for t79 recall continues to not be available. notified of this recall december 20th 2017. recall not fixed in a timely manner.

When 4x4 service is required the trucks drive system will rattle very loud forcing the truck to come to a complete stop. the truck must be shut off and restarted this will happen every 1000 miles until service is performed. this happened about 4000 miles before my 60,000 mile service on the interstate pulling a fifth wheel and then again 3000 miles before required service. this happened again at 76,000 miles on the interstate single lane no shoulder in the mountains of utah. this is very dangerous. i get a reminder message for required service, but the 4x4 service reminder is unacceptable.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ram 2500. the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign numbers: 17v562000 (engine and engine cooling) and 17v821000 (power train). the parts needed for the repair were not available. the contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. the vehicle was taken to smolich motors chrysler (1865 u.s. 20, bend, or 97701, (541) 389-1177), but the parts were not available for the repair. the manufacturer was not contacted and made aware of the issue. the contact had not experienced a failure. parts distribution disconnect. *tt

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ram 2500. while the vehicle was stationary and unoccupied, it rolled backwards out of the park position and crashed into some trees. the air bags did not deploy. a police report was not filed. there were no injuries sustained. egolf chrysler jeep dodge ram in brevard, north carolina was made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the vin was included in nhtsa campaign number: 17v821000 (power train), which was directly related to the failure; however, there was no remedy. the failure mileage was 92,000.

When driving on the road and you let off the gas pedal, then you need to accelerate to get out of the way of someone or to avoid a near accident, you press the gas pedal all the way down and there is a couple second delay to a few seconds, a lag, before the truck appears to receive the command to hurry up and go. it has caused me to almost be rear ended and be in an accident with my wife and daughter in my truck.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ram 2500. the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 17v821000 (power train); however, the part to do the repair was unavailable. the contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. franklin chrysler dodge jeep ram in franklin, tennessee was made aware of the recall and stated that the parts were unavailable. the manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. the contact had not experienced a failure. parts distribution disconnect.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ram 2500. while the vehicle was parked, it shifted into neutral by itself. there were no warning indicators illuminated prior to the failure. the vehicle was taken to the dealer (cronic chrysler dodge jeep ram, 2515 n expressway, griffin, ga 30223) where it was diagnosed that the gear shift was defective. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the vin was unknown. the failure mileage was 65,500.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ram 2500. the contact stated that the gear shifter was able to move without the key being inserted in the ignition or the brake pedal being depressed. the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 17v821000 (power train); however, the parts to do the repair were unavailable. the contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. carl burger chrysler jeep dodge ram (8355 hercules st, la mesa, ca) was contacted and confirmed that the parts were not available for the recall remedy. the manufacturer was notified and did not know when the parts were to become available. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the failure mileage was 47,968. parts distribution disconnect.

I have had several incidents this year of the transmission lever being stuck in park. this is with engine on, brake pedal depressed, and emergency brake released. you could not move the lever at all you were stuck, after 30-60 sec, and repeated attempts to move the lever, it eventually moved to drive. this was reported to the local dodge ram dealer lone star doge 1309 s. pacific st. in mineolia tx this year, who claims not to be able to reproduce the problem. no paperwork was even written up on the incident.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ram 2500. the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign numbers: 17v562000 (engine and engine cooling) and 17v821000 (power train). the contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repairs. the contact called colorado springs dodge at 719-428-6400 (located at 7455 austin bluffs pkwy, colorado springs, co 80923) and was informed that the parts were not available. the manufacturer was made aware of the issue and was not able to confirm when the parts were to become available. the contact had not experienced a failure. parts distribution disconnect.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ram 2500. the contact stated that while the vehicle was parked at a parking lot, the gear lever shifted out of park independently without warning. the contact was able to stop the vehicle once it began to roll three feet. the vehicle was taken to autonation dodge dealer, located at 1011 chatham center drive, savannah, ga 31405, where it was diagnosed that the gear lever electrical module failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was in the process of being repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed that the vehicle was not covered under the power train warranty and they will not repair the vehicle. the approximate failure mileage was 55,710.

Dead peddle issues

I have had several incidents this year of the transmission lever being stuck at park. this is with engine on, brake pedal depressed, and emergency brake released. after 30-60 sec, and repeated attempts to gently wiggle the lever, it will eventually move to drive. three trips were taken to the local dodge ram dealer from june to november this year, who claims not to be able to reproduce the problem.

Transmission gear selector remains locked in park from 5 to >30 seconds, after starting engine and depressing brake pedal first. gear selector cannot be then moved with engine running and brake pedal depressed. thus vehicle cannot be driven.

When pulling a travel trailer going up or down a steep grade with the vehicle in tow hall the transmission will hang up in any given gear forcing you to apply the break and shift the vehicle into neutral then back into drive this has been reported to lone star doge 1309 s. pacific mineola tx. the dealership said no codes were found so nothing was wrong. i have had this happen several times and am worried about driving the truck now. i have taken the truck into the dealer multiple times for this issue and it still has not been repaired. i take it in one time and they tell me it is fixed after they work on it it is not fixed and i take it in again and they say it is the egr valve so i have that fixed and it is still doing the same thing so i bring it in again and they say it is something else and i would need to pay for repairs again. this should have been covered under the warranty but they say this needs to be fixed first before the warranty work can be done why cant they just fix the warranty work instead of find things that "have to be fixed before that work can be done" with no relation to the transmisssion.

When i accelerate there is a lag. this is from a stop or while applying the accelerator, and pushing it more to pass or merge. also this lag at any speed seems to make the truck lunge, and it feels like it may be shifting wrong.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ram 2500. the contact stated that while driving at 40 mph, the accelerator pedal was depressed but the vehicle jerked before accelerating. the vehicle was taken to a dealer who diagnosed that the transmission needed to be rebuilt. the vehicle was repaired. however, the failure recurred on numerous occasions. the vehicle was taken back to the dealer who stated that the transmission needed to be rebuilt. the vehicle was repaired multiple times but the failure persisted. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 29,770.

We have had this vehicle excellerating on its own for over two years when you let off the break after a stoplight the truck excel rate to 1500 rpm is making it very difficult to stop this condition happens anytime of the year and all driving conditions as well does it whenever it feels like it

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ram 2500. the contact stated that while driving approximately 75 mph, a grinding noise was present coming from the rear of the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the rear differential and the rear axle would need to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. in march of 2016 while driving approximately 75 mph, a warning displayed indicating that the speed would reduce to 5 mph. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the emission system, the catalytic converter, and gaskets would need to be replaced. in october 2016 while driving approximately 45 mph, the engine fan assembly, the power steering, and the power brake failed. the cause of the failure had not been determined. the manufacturer was notified of the failures. the failure mileage was 4,000.

I have a 2014 ram 2500, the truck has a vibration between 68mph-80mph. the dealer said i had a bad universal joint in the driveshaft. replaced driveshaft still vibrates, mother said it's tires. replaced tires and wheels and it still vibrates. i took it in again and they couldn't find anything wrong. i asked the dealer to pull the rear differential cover to make sure everything was within specs and they refused to do it under warranty and wants to charge me. there are many others having this same problem, you can feel the vibration in the floor, you can see the passenger seat shake, and see bottle of water shake in the center console. i will be making another appointment for this issue. this issue occurs at highway speed.

This is regarding the 6.7l cummins engine. throttle lag from a dead stop such as merging into traffic or crossing a road is dangerous. this lag could very well cause me to get rear ended or broad sided. there is also very significant lag after the gas pedal has been released and then pressed once again. an example is when slowing down when approaching a slower car and then changing lanes and pressing and accelerating to go around the vehicle.

I bought a 2014 ram 2500 in november of 2014 when i went to pick up the truck there was a 2 day delay because of a broken lock on the ram box a few weeks later after getting lots of rain inside the ram box it was in the repair shop to get one side adjusted and one side replaced. next it went to an auto body shop to fix the paint after it was damaged from the repair. after the first car wash we had to have a sticker made that came off because it was not a ram part but put on by a dealer where the truck came from. a couple weeks goes by to have the cruise control button fail so back in the shop for a new switch. just when i thought all was good. last week i was driving at a slow rate of speed up a gravel driveway and the truck began to jump violently and made a crazy loud noise after having it towed to the dealer they found the transmission mod failed and caused first gear to blow out. it is now sitting at the dealership waiting to have a new transmission put in it at only 2000 miles. needless to say i have no faith left in this truck! *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 dodge ram 2500. the contact stated that the front end of the vehicle vibrated while driving 68 to 78 mph. the vehicle was taken to the dealer numerous times for the failure; however, the dealer test drove the vehicle and was unable to duplicate the failure. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who balanced and rotated the tires. the driveshaft was replaced, but the failure was not corrected. the approximate failure mileage was 17,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 dodge ram 2500. while driving 55 mph, the engine turned off and the "put vehicle in park" warning light flashed. the contact also stated that the vehicle was not shifting gears properly. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the tcm flash needed to be updated. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 2,787. updated 04/10/15*lj

The rear differential locked up while towing our rv, which caused us to jackknife and subsequently flipping our rv. the rv is a total loss and the truck has significant damage. there was a loud pop or bang and then maybe a second or so before the rear end seized. the truck shut down during this which left us with no brakes for the rv and the truck almost flipped with rv. the mechanic at the service center showed us the spider gear shaft in the differential, which had broken loose somehow and jammed against the driveshaft gear, thereby locking the differential and powertrain. this seems to be a common problem with ram trucks as the investigations have been going on for years. we were lucky enough to have just exited the freeway before this happened. if this had happened on the freeway, my wife and myself could have been killed and any number of drivers that were around us. the freeway we had just exited was pretty busy with semi's and cars alike. this kind of catastrophic failure on a new truck with only 4700 or so miles is unacceptable and needs to be addressed. *tr

2014 ram 2500 4x4 cummins diesel 68rfe auto trans. significant lag in acceleration when actuating the pedal. 2+- seconds of no response before truck starts accelerating. could be very dangerous in city driving or merging situations. *tr

There was no accident thankfully. i took my truck to a dealership because it was shifting hard. i took it in twice and both times the dealerships wouldn't even look at it. they pluged it in to their computers and told me it needed an update. finally one day i raised cane about it and they kept it and found that the torque converter was bad. they replaced it and the pump in the transmission. that took two weeks. i drove it 5 days after that and the truck got stuck in first gear and then natural and would not move. i took it back and they replaced the pump again. they test drove it and it threw a bearing in the transmission. now they have had it for a month and it is still not fixed and they refuse to put a new transmission in it. i only have 27000 mile on it now. it is a new 70,000$ truck with a half way rebuilt transmission. and i still do not have my truck.

While towing approximately 11000 lbs, the vehicle began bucking aggressively while in 4th and 5th gear. we were towing three horses and had to slow the vehicle and downshift into third gear to get the bucking to stop. also, the vehicle will not up-shift after utilizing the transmission braking feature when descending a grade while towing. you have to manually disable the tow haul mode and wait for transmission to shift. chrysler is aware of the problem, has had many customer complaints, and has no fix at this time other than tow in third gear. beware when towing livestock or towing on slippery roads, this transmission bucking problem is severe enough to cause injury to your animals or cause you to lose control of your vehicle. it feels like the transmission slips in and out of gear. this problem is well documented and and acknowledged by the dealer and chrysler. *tr

I was in a left turn lane waiting for oncoming traffic to pass before commiting to my turn at a stop. i gradually depressed the accelerator to make the left turn. the truck rolled forward at a rate of about 1mph. with oncoming traffic approaching, i then fully depressed the accelerator pedal with no results. there was no change in rpm, no change in acceleration, or speed for an estimated 3 seconds. the truck then slowly accelerated and i narrowly missed being t-boned by oncoming traffic. this unsafe condition will also happen during highway speeds after returning the pedal to the idle position and then accelerating to pass traffic or enter another lane. i have lost 10-20mph at highway speeds with my foot fully depressing the pedal. there seems to be a total disconnect at times between the accelerator pedal position and engine rpm's/power. i would estimate the occurrence of this issue at 10-15% of accelerator inputs. the truck now has just over 9,000 miles and this has happened numerous times, some nearly causing an accident.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 dodge ram 2500. the contact stated that while the vehicle was in park, the vehicle rolled away 100 yards. the vehicle crashed into a tractor trailer. a police report was filed and there were no injuries reported. the contact had the vehicle towed to a local mechanic but was not diagnosed for the cause of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 6,000.

When accelerating then letting off accelerator for a brief moment then trying to re-accelerate there is no response / dead pedal delay for 2 seconds then the truck will accelerate. very dangerous in traffic situations. dealer is aware of problem and can duplicate all the time. no solution at this time.

A dead throttle pedal occurs at two different instances. one, when from a dead stop pulling out into traffic. the accelerator pedal will press but the vehicle will not go or change rpm for a second, then the vehicle will move. two, when trying to pass someone, occasionally the vehicle will exhibit the same dead pedal response for a moment then accelerate. this is most definitely unsafe for my family. multiple dealerships have told me they cannot replicate the problem, but i have researched online and many others have experienced the same. it is a concern that must be fixed. *tr
