Problems with 2016 RAM 1500 FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

On average, the 2016 RAM 1500 starts to “feel” problems with the FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM and its various aspects after 52 858 miles.

Recently reported FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM problems on 2016 RAM 1500

I took my truck into a dealer because the exhaust system wouldn't clean itself. i found out there were recalls pertaining to this and they were handled as far as i knew. however, just a few weeks later as i was pulling into my driveway at home i noticed smoke barreling out from under the hood. i imediately tried to shut it off and when i did it would rev up higher instead of shutting off. i got it to shut off finally and left it sitting there overnight until i could get a tow truck to take it back to the dealership, where i was informed that this problem is now so common that the part is on back order and no idea of when they will be able to get it. now its 3 weeks later and i still haven't gotten my truck back.

Ram 2016 ecodiesel is the subject of recall vb1 regarding threat of fire from faulty egr valve. the nhtsa recall was announced in october and now the best estimate of a fix has been delayed from december 13 to april. that's too long to park this vehicle. fca should offer the buyback that appears in the aem settlement to any truck that is a threat to burst into flames if driven. others appear willing to drive their vehicles. i am not, nor would any well informed owner.

The fuel gauge goes to empty when it is full. bad fuel sensor. it basically bounces around when i fill it up and then returns to empty. the dealership acknowledges this is a very common problem. i can't allow my wife and four children to drive long distances if they don't know how much fuel is in the tank. extreme safety concern in desert area. this needs to be addressed at a large scale.

Vehicle is three years old with roughly 41k miles. engine light comes on, code reads fuel pump. light goes out. week or two later truck info menu says fuel sensor error and gauge reads empty. researched and seen this is a common problem with similar year models. even dealership confirms this. this will cost 1k to fix as well as a whole day at the shop. why isn't this a recall? i've never heard of fuel sensors or pumps going bad this early. this issue isn't cover under powertrain warranty. it is under bumper to bumper but i'm out of luck as it's three year/36k miles. engine light/sensor/gauge issue occured when cranking it up. i turned it off and back on and the gauge went to the appropriate level although engine light is still on. i use 87 fuel.

Tl* the contact owns a 2016 ram 1500. the contact stated the fuel sensor was reading incorrectly giving false reading at half of tank and when the gauge reached zero the check engine light illuminated. the vehicle was not taken to a dealer for a diagnosis or a mechanic for repairs. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 92,000.

19v 757 (safety recall number) safety recall was issued on 10.28.2019 to a possible fire hazard in the engine compartment due to possible cracks in the egr cooler. the date listed for notification / fix (december 13, 2019) has come and gone with no updates or info from fiat / chrysler. due to the potential hazard of a fire, fca should have this issue resolved by now..... still waiting.....

Was driving my truck on the highway when i noticed message on instrument panel stating fuel sensor failed, check engine light came on, and fuel needle went from 3/ 4 full to empty, and back to 3/ 4 full to back to empty, with another message stating low fuel

2nd time this has happened, checked eng light came on, low fuel sensor failed, fuel gauge goes to empty, truck runs fine, does not matter if driving on streets or highway, very concerned i dont run out of gas, i have to fill up every week, praying for a recall to have this mechanical failure fix quickly

When driving the vehicle and the gas gauge gets below a half tank then the check engine light turns on, then the gas gauge goes to empty, and then the low fuel light comes on. ten fuel sensor fail.

After the mandatory aem update the truck lost acceleration power and mpg went way down. i was told the trucks performance would stay exactly the same. in reality the truck turned into a slug. also received a recall about possible fires due to egr cooler leaking coolant. fca told me until a there's a fix to carry a jug of coolant and continue to refill as needed. i think that's ridiculous, the truck is 4 years old.

I purchased a new 2106 ram 1500 ecodiesel in 2016 from a dealer. there was an emissions recall for which i took to the dealer and had done according to the manufacturer. since the recall was completed i have had a serious lag in acceleration. there is now a 3 to 4 second delay at 3/4 throttle before the truck takes off in a lurch. i asked the dealer how this can be fixed to accelerate as before the recall and they said there was nothing they could and that they would not undo the computer changes. i live off a busy street and trying to flow into traffic is a real challenge and a safety hazard. i'm afraid to lend my truck to family and friends because of the safety hazard and wanted to make sure a complaint has been filed.

Tl* the contact owns a 2016 ram 1500. the contact stated that when the fuel tank would reach half a tank, the check engine light would illuminate which then would turn into a low fuel light illuminating. the contact stated that the fuel gauge would then immediately read as empty. the contact took the vehicle to douglas jeep chrysler dodge ram (2382 s tamiami trail, venice, fl 34293) where they diagnosed the vehicle with a defective fuel sensor and gave the contact an estimate of $800.00. the manufacturer was notified and offer him no assistance; they referred him to nhtsa. the vehicle had not been repaired. the failure mileage was 50,000.

V08 recall flash has made my truck more dangerous to drive. there is an extreme amount of lag from the engine and turbo while trying to accelerate. i am the second owner, bought on 7/24/19 and the truck has been in the shop twice already!

This vehicle has a 3.0 eco diesel engine. chrysler had a recall to update this engine which i had them do. ever since the update there has been a long pause after pushing on the accelerator till the engine speeds up. this often times results in a dangerous situation when pulling out to merge into traffic. we live near a busy round about and when pushing on the gas to enter, nothing happens so you push down more, then all at once it takes off like a bullet and you hope you don't hit somebody. i have taken it back to the dealer more than once and they say they can't do anything to correct it. i have called the recall number at ram and didn't get anywhere there either. the dealer said they get a lot of complaints about this but there is no fix. this is a dangerous situation.

I need help with a safety issue after recall v08 epa & carb emissions modification. since the program was updated, i have experienced severe hesitation upon acceleration. this hesitation is so severe that i cannot safely pull into traffic without risking an accident. i have taken my truck to the dealer twice since september 2019 and have made numerous phone calls to the dealer and fca. i was told from the dealer that the hesitation is very apparent, that fca is aware of the problem as it is wide spread, and fca is working on an update to the program. however, there is not a time frame for when there will be a fix. after numerous phone calls to the dealer and fca with no resolution, i sent an email to reid bigland, head of ram brand, but have heard nothing in response. considering the significance of the hesitation, and the potential safety risks, i find the lack of urgency to correct this safety issue and nonchalant responses to my concerns completely unacceptable. will you please help me in obtaining a resolution to this safety concern? if needed, i can provide my service records and the detailed letter that i sent mr. bigland

Fuel sensor failure. the sending unit which measures fuel level failed while in motion. check engine light came on. the fuel tank had to be dropped to replace the sensor. a quick search of online forums revealed many have this issue. without knowing how much fuel is in the tank, one could be left stranded.

Takata recall i have a 2016 dodge ram 1500 with 33000 miles on it.the other day my gas light came so i pulled off to the side of the road thinking i had a leak because i just filled up the day before then i got a message on the dash that said fuel sensor fail so i went on the internet and found out it is a very common known problem that dodge hasn't done anything to fix after reading up on it i fully believe that this problem should be recalled and resolved

I own a 2016 ram 1500 eco diesel. i recently got a recall (v08 i believe) that greatly effected the throttle response and fuel mileage on my truck. i love on a bend on a state highway and it has become very dangerous for me to pull out of my driveway. when i press the throttle there is a good 5 second delay before the truck accelerates. this is a known problem as fca has notified dealers that they are aware of the issue. i know this because i took my truck back to the dealer to address these issues and that is the response they gave me. when i purchased this truck there were no acceleration issues and the fuel mileage was 4-5mpg greater before this computer update. please facilitate a fix for this before i get hit leaving my house or turning onto any street.

After an emissions recall was performed on eco diesel engine (ecm update) the engine has become terribly sluggish on initial takeoff. i can push the gas petal to the floor and nothing happens for several seconds. i feel that this is a safety concern because there is inconsistent engine performance that could cause an accident.

Another ram ecodiesel post-aem safety concern. did the aem recall and instantly became a safety hazard in traffic. extreme throttle lag of 4+ seconds, even if flooring it. too many close calls to list myself and i don't let me wife drive unless absolutely necessary (it was supposed to be her truck!!). recall may be monetary and such but the issue is a safety problem and will result in much larger issues. i've worked as a risk management safety officer; this will lead to a bigger problem. epa or not, this "aem fix" is wrong! please please please get involved and force a recall to fix the lack of throttle response on these vehicles. for what its worth, i found out that i am not eligible for any of the claim $$ because my truck was built in canada. god bless the american ram badge, huh!

Very poor acceleration when cold or warm. significant drop in power and fuel mileage. all of these things happened after the v08 update

After having the emission recall competed on my 2016 ram 1500 ecodiesel i am experiencing major power loss in certain operating conditions. this condition includes reduced throttle response when accelerating from a stop after cold starting. since this recall there is significant lag in the throttle leading to traffic having to slow down because i'm not accelerating. i can push the throttle to the floor and there is very little rpm increase. this issue happens after every cold start and there is a larger lag if the air conditioner is on. this throttle lag only started occurring after the recall was performed and has occurred regularly since.

Filled up my fuel tank and as you drive down the road your fuel gage continues to go up and down. then your low fuel light goes off. then you get a fuel level sensor code that comes up on the dash. these warnings buzzers continue to go off regardless if the tank is full.

Fuel sensor fail this happen when i have to brake hard

After the recall, my ram ecodiesel has no power at all, it is dangerous to drive until it gets up to operating temperature. even then, it is very sluggish, sometimes dangerously slow like when turning left with on-coming traffic. this was not the case before the aem recall due to the emissions issue. while mine has not doe this, i am part of a group of additional owners, of which an alarming number have caught fire post aem recall. also a very high number of engine failures. i am concerned there are major design flaws, and now this latest update simply makes it dangerous to drive.

After an emissions update was made to my vehicle without my permission on june 4, 2019, the throttle is unresponsive, the diesel exhaust regenertion system no longer functions and my fue economy has dropped over 10 mpg. it is out-of-service and undriveable. it has been at the dealership 4 times over the last 4 months, and has been there since august 1, 2019. i am being told there is no fix.

I have a 2016 ram ecodiesel that had no performance issues prior to the recall. it is now very sluggish, lacks power and is slow getting to speed, also hunts/searches for gears. it has become a safety hazard when accelerating to merge into traffic. i have logged a complaint with fca and my case number is #59458742.

I was accelerating to enter highway i35 in san antonio when my dashboard lit up with multiple flashing lights. check engine, low fuel indicator, fuel sensor failure error code, along with the ringing alarm that there was no fuel. i am now in the middle lane of i35 traveling 65 mph and trying to figure out should i risk cutting back across the traffic i just merged with to exit before i get stranded in the middle lane, or risk running out of fuel and exit the next exit more safely. i chose to cut off the traffic so that i didn't risk getting stranded in the middle of the highway. this was dangerous, and i am glad i didn't have my kids in the truck with me. these faulty fuel sensors that are on the fuel pumps need redesigned. mopar should be held responsible before real tragedy happens.

Received a recall to install aem computer update. since the update i have been experiencing acceleration delays from a stop there is a 3-5 sec delay in acceleration. this is a safety hazard trying to merge i had to pull to the side of the road a # of times to avoid a rear end accident. in addition my gas mileage has also been decreased from an average of 18-20 mpg down to 14-16 mpg. this problem after the aem update must be correct quickly as driving the vehicle has become dangerous.

My vehicle was part of a recent ecodiesel settlement that required a recall and re-flash of the vehicles ecm. fca stated that the recall re-flash would not affect the vehicles performance. that is not the cash. my vehicle now has a severe throttle hesitation when starting from a stop. pulling into or merging into existing traffic has become extremely dangerous. i have been experiencing this condition since the recall was completed.

The truck is stationary and is turned off and when i push the push to start button the truck begins to turn on and cuts off before it fully begins to run. turns off mid ignition and dies. have to push to start more than once.

Eco diesel emissions update, upon having my truck ecm flashed with the court settlement emission update, i have observed severe power loss. to the point of 4-5 seconds of delay when initially pulling out in to traffic on any road or highway. very sluggish and has almost caused me to have an accident . this started immediately after the update . my truck drove fine before the update.

Fuel level sensor failure, causes fuel gauge to read zero and check engine light to come on. first gauge will read incorrectly then fall to just reading zero, happens in all conditions of driving and vehicle running. its a known issue for the ram 1500. requires fuel pump assembly to be replaced as the sensor is built into the fuel pump assembly.

Eco diesel recall on emissions, and now have safety acceleration or "lack of" from a stop, fuel economy went way down and use of alot def, ram is aware of it and have not fix check engine light has been on for past 4 months dealers reset and still comes back on, dealers can't fix and don't know how they stated wait for dodge fca i was dealing with felicia us customer care case number [xxx] fca she had to cancel case instructed by her bosses because their is no fix.*dt consumer stated failed software was installed which made it unsafe to drive. Full tank of gas. 38,000 miles. fuel sensor failure warning. check engine light on. low fuel light on. fuel gauge reads empty.

Truck has 25,200 miles on it and has fuel sensor failure alarm. after reading some information with other owners, they all have the same problem with their ram pickup. evidently this happens anywhere from 5,000 miles and up. it is a $1000 repair when not under warranty. i believe this should be a recall item covered after the warranty expires. some people had the repair 2 or more times. i was driving up the road when the fuel gauge said empty and it's full

Hello, i called my dealership and asked them about my fuel sensor, check engine light has been on. sometimes when i fill up my tank it goes away. that being said. i have searched the i gerber to find out it is a common problem with our ram trucks. deslership will not cover now the power train warranty. this should be a recall. it is going to charge us nearly 1000 dollars to fix it. simple fix. my truck has only 60,0000 miles brand new. sometimes it goes away when i am driving and than it reappears. please make this a recall that way we can get it fix. if not i am going to have to fix it myself. thank you.

The day i purchased this vehicle, literally on the drive home on the highway after signing the paperwork, the fuel gauge suddenly dropped to empty and the check engine light came on and the message center indicated a "fuel sensor fail".. i pulled over to the side of the road and as soon as i stopped, the gauge rose back to 3/4 tank and the issue didn't present itself again for a couple months. now, every time i fill the tank, the fuel gauge drops to empty right about the time it should read 3/4 tank and starts working again at about 1/4 tank. there are so many other complaints spread out over so many model years, i can't understand how this hasn't generated a recall. i purchased this vehicle used with just over 36,000 miles on it. i now have just under 41,000 miles on the odometer and have no idea just how much fuel is in the vehicle.

Vehicle completely died in the intersection right after taking off from the stoplight. could not remove key and it will not shift into park. *bf*jb *dt*jb *dt the consumer stated vehicle was repaired, a loose battery terminal was the problem. *tr

Air suspension has never worked properly during winter months. had compressor replaced in 2-2018. in the last year i have experienced a minimum of 12 instances where the vehicle will not adjust ride height which i have photos of. when i purchased my vehicle no one told me it would not function properly during the cold months. most recently i was in to have the auto park recall taken care of. since this update my truck is total crap. i have lost 3mpg in fuel mileage, the truckss shift pattern and running rpm's have changed and it drives like i'm towing something. when i returned to the dealer i was told to get and after market programmer to solve the issue. really! so when i go in the next time they can void my warranty. my truck ran like a beast before the update and averaged 18.5 mpg, today i am averaging 14.7 on the same exact trip. something is definitely wrong with this program.

Fuel level sensor inoperable. can not gauge proper levels of fuel in the vehicle.

Driving on a highway at 60 m/h engine start smoking and caught on fire without any previous alert or check engine light on after i pullover and lift the hood to inspect the smoke.

Tl* the contact owns a 2016 ram 1500. while driving 45 mph, the fuel gauge went from full to empty. in addition, the check engine warning indicator illuminated and all the electrical features shut down. the vehicle was taken to brown motors of greenfield (399 federal st, greenfield, ma 01301) where it was diagnosed that either the fuel sensor or the sending unit needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was notified. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 57,897.

I am a 2016 ram 1500 crew cab. if i use the vst gas nozzles they get stuck in the filler neck. it takes about 10-15 mins to get it unstuck. i have taken it to antioch dodge and they say there is no issue. i also had a video and they refuse to look at it. i am very disappointed that nobody will look into this.

Error code p0463 - fuel level sending unit failure. seems to happen to everyone right out of warranty... 40k miles, under 3 years old. was driving on the highway when warning lights and the audible notification started going off. low fuel warnings lit up too. fuel level sending unit high voltage failure is the eventual message on the dashboard. it throws one off when that happens, took me a minute to realize that i didn't in fact have a fuel leak and did in fact have plenty of gas.

I was backing a pontoon boat while in 4wd low in soft mulch, i then stopped and switched back to 2wd. once the electronic shifting was complete, the fuel sensor fail message appeared in the instrument cluster, the low fuel warning and the check engine light both illuminated. the fuel (gas) tank was about 3/4 full when this occurred. the vehicle had 60,054 miles on it. so far the vehicle continues to run as normal but the illuminated warnings are quite a distraction while driving.

Our truck is two years old. we have 77,000 miles on it and the fuel sensor/pump went bad. it's no longer under warranty; however, a fuel pump should last more than 2 years and 77,000 miles. we fill up with fuel. everything is fine until the needles hits the first line. we get a fuel sensor warning and the guage drops to empty. the truck runs fine. no hesitation of stalling. wouldn't know anything was wrong except for the warning lights. check engine light is on, too. according to dodge, the two are related.

Tl* the contact owns a 2016 ram 1500. when the contact started the vehicle, the fuel gauge went to empty and the fuel sensor and engine warning indicators flashed. the dealer (don jackson chrysler dodge jeep ram, 3950 jonesboro rd, union city, ga 30291, (770) 969-7229) was notified. the contact made several calls, but was unable to schedule a diagnostic appointment with the dealer. the manufacturer was notified. the approximate failure mileage was 50,550.

Truck shutdown while driving down highway @ 65 mph without any other symptoms. had to coast to side of busy road. service electronic throttle control flashed as well as the check engine light. the truck never stuttered or lost any power prior to this. dealership states that it is bad diesel fuel. replaced hpfp but truck will still not start. chrysler has instructed dealer to replace entire fuel system. this has not been done yet because chrysler will not warranty even though the truck is still under warranty.

Tl* the contact owns a 2016 ram 1500. while adding fuel to the vehicle, the fuel pump nozzle became stuck in the fuel tank filler tube. the contact had to remove the nozzle from the fuel tank by twisting and pulling with force each time the fuel tank was filled in order to release the fuel pump nozzle. the contact spoke with victorville motors (14617 civic drive, victorville, ca 92394, (760) 733-8484), but the dealer stated that there was nothing for them to diagnose. the vehicle was not repaired. the vehicle was not taken to a dealer to have the fuel tank inspected. the manufacturer was not notified. the failure mileage was 100.
