I was driving down the interstate at 70 mph when my engine shut down and i was forced to coast to a stop. i got my truck towed to a shop and further inspection revealed the engine rod bolts had backed out and allowed the rod to come off of the crankshaft. my truck only has 71,000 miles on it and after further research found this to be a fairly common issue in comparison to other engines. i discovered this condition occurs at random miles and in most cases without warning. when the engine fails you lose power to critical components like power brakes and power steering, in some cases could lead to a fire as well. luckily i was on a road that allowed me to stop safely.
There isn't enough room for the entire ordeal, but i will do my best to congest it. june 19th: went to dealer ship with check engine light, nobody there knew what it meant, and they erased it and told me not to worry about it unless it comes back. july 3rd: vacation trip, about 2 hours into driving, truck looses throttle, solid check engine light comes on, "service electronic throttle control" smoke coming from engine bay, smelled like plastic to me. found what looked like a melted quarter sized boiling spot on the manifold? i believe. checked that engine light was solid, and on june 19th was told if light is solid, it's safe to drive, if it's blinking shut off imediately. it was solid. vacation's over, drive back to vegas at about 40-50mph (truck wouldn't go any faster) on blinkers the whole way with my fiancee in the passanger seat, and 3 year old son in the back seat. an hour ourside of vegas, truck was throwing flame balls and sparks out the rear, immediately pulled off to the desert, and evacuated my son and fiancee. grabbed red bulls and green teas to douse the fire. got the fire out after several minutes. if i didn't notice the sparks or fireballs, or if a fuel line caught on fire, we could have died. the entire underside of the truck was burned and the dpf on the exhaust was glowing bright red still. i spoke with an original engineer on the truck, through a facebook group for these trucks, which he states 2 weeks prior when i took the truck in, the egr must have started malfunctioning, and they shouldn't have brushed me off. which led to it sticking open, and blowing a hole in the intake manifold (the burning plastic smell) when i was driving back to safety (in the middle of nowhere), a regeneration occured causing the dpf to fill up, and essentially explode, and catch the truck on fire. truck is awaiting reps from detroit.
Engine fire. chrysler denied responsibility. truck was in motion. lost engine oil pressure and pulled over. fire was under the hood.
2015 ram 1500 eco diesel 3.0 l engine. leaking egr cooler during 2017 and 2018 cross country trip hauling a 23 ft travel trailer. mostly highway driving. both times egr leaked internally causing coolant to be sucked into the engine and burned. leak was slow at a rate of 1 gallon or so per week of 1500 miles of driving per week. both times egr cooler was replaced under warranty. seems like failure only occurs while towing for prolonged period. first egr cooler was replaced nov 2017. no towing until june 2018 when it failed. second cooler replaced aug 2018. first cooler only leaked internally. second leaked internally and externally at the coolant seals. coolant being ingested into the engine can easily damage the emission control systems. many complaints on dodge ram eco diesel forums about faulty egr coolers.
Vehicle in park on level city street. stepped out of vehicle. vehicle suddently accelerated at seeminly full power in reverse. crossed into intersection and hit by traffic, continued across intersection, came to rest in yard of house opposite.
On may 29,2018. i rearended a semi truck. i had my foot on the brake pressed to the floor but vehicle would not come to a complete stop. when towed to collision center i addressed my concerns to them that i felt my vehicle was defective due to the truck maintaining speed while i was applying brakes. they plugged it into scan tool and four default codes came up. (abs, airbag, power steering, door module)i then proceeded to open a claim with daimler chrysler. what was supposed to be the main concern that was supposed to be investigated was why default codes came up & truck was not stopping to avoid collision. daimler chrysler assured me there third party investigator would investigate all the issues (all default codes). they where sent out, plugged truck into scan tool and took pictures. third party sent my husband & i a copy of what the crash test data was.been calling them for answers since my truck has been sitting for month & a half untouched. to find out that they only investigated air bag issue & not other very serious mechanical safety issues. clearly documented in crash test data, from my vehicle, states positive torque to motor with pedal pressure of accelerator reading at 0% & while brakes where being applied. i have documents to prove my statements. also at time of accident my vin was not included in the current recall of cruise control. on june 14th ,2018 my husband checked our vin again & it is now included in current recall. at the time of accident my cruise control was not engaged. but the recall is due to the powertrain control module or engine control module not removing positive torque requests from the can-b. if can-b stops communicating with the ecm or pcm. also all other default codes should be investigated like the power steering that pulled to one side while i was braking. their are to many issues with my vehicle that they know about & are hiding. *bf *tr
On three separate occasions the truck engine died without warning. and i was unable to restart. the eco diesel engine in my truck on the third incident, totally seized up and i was told the engine was finished and the dealer would try to get me a new one. they came back and said it would take a minimum of two months, if they could get one at all, because of the problems they were having with ecodiesel engines. i basically, was forced to trade it in to get another vehicle. this truck is unsafe and should not be on the road. on two occasions of the three incidents, it neal\rly killed me, or at least a very serious accident.
Truck has ecodiesel engine. had it in for rough idle but could not find the cause. at 42141 miles driving on the highway and the egr valve went out. this caused the truck to go into limp mode. this valve was not covered by the power train, emissions or extend warranty. ram would not help even though had it in before
Tl* the contact owns a 2015 ram 1500. when the vehicle was started, a loud ticking sound could be heard from the engine compartment. there were no warning indicators illuminated prior to the failure. the dealer (new holland chrysler dodge jeep ram, 508 w main st, new holland, pa 17557) informed the contact that the sound was the "hemi tick" and could not find a failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified and advised the contact to file a complaint with nhtsa. the failure mileage was 19,000. the vin was not available.
Tl* the contact owns a 2015 ram 1500. while backing out of the garage, the contact placed the gear shifter in drive. the contact slightly depressed the accelerator pedal and the vehicle accelerated at rapid speed. the contact was able to gain control of the vehicle; however, while the brake pedal was depressed, the engine continued to rev. the contact attempted to drive the vehicle again, but while the accelerator pedal was depressed, the vehicle accelerated at 7 mph. the electronic throttle control indicator illuminated. the contact called york dodge chrysler jeep ram at (928) 433-3925 (500 prescott lakes pkwy, prescott, az 86301) where a diagnostic appointment was scheduled for the following day. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified. the approximate failure mileage was 29,300.

I bought my 2015 ram 1500 on november 27, 2017. the truck looked as though it had been very well maintained and taken care of. the first or second week in december a check engine light came on as i was pulling in my neighborhood. it turned out to be a fuel pump sensor which the dealership replaced. now after a month and a half later, another check engine light has came on while parking at a restaurant. 3 codes have shown up for this cel. they are p26ab, p26a7, and p2681. these codes have something to do with the engine coolant bypass valve control. after only an hour of sitting in my driveway the following day there was a huge rainbow colored leak on the asphalt and fluid settling and dripping from the bottom of the transmission. i have taken very good care of this truck since i purchased it. it is just as clean as the day i took it off the lot. i am worried that there is something seriously wrong with this truck now and that the dealership will try and take advantage of me and the fact that the warranty was only for 30 days because when i purchased it the vehicle was used and had 72000 miles on it. this is my first dodge ram truck i have ever owned and so far i am very disappointed in the reliability. i will be taking it to the dealership one day this week when i can get off of work. hopefully they don't try to "pull one over" on me. attached is the leak in my driveway after an hour of being parked.
Steering tilt control broke , no parts being being manufactured . must purchase used complete steering column just because a small plastic clip broke safety hazard due to having to adjust the seat to properly see gauges . known engine problems with the 5.7 hemi engine being tappets , valve springs, cam shaft , all low to mid mileage engines . valve springs breaking and dropping valves that could destroy your engine causing to stall and or lockup at high speed affecting steering and breaking with the engine unable to run. the steering issue was in motion on a highway. the tappet/lifter was in motion also on a highway. vehicle 2005 147500 miles. only images would be repair bills
When in motion, check engine light illuminates with "check electronic throttle control" message. vehicle enters "limp" mode and won't accelerate properly becoming a hazard to other traffic. the obd code received is p0299 - turbo underboost. this is a recurring issue.
Ram 1500 hemi 2015 tradesman with the famous hemi tick. manifold bolts broke off causing loud tick sound at start up and sometimes when driving. i have read hundreds of complaints in regards of this hemi tick issue. why isn't this a recall. dealer is charging $650 each side.
Electronic throttle control malfunction(lightning bolt), low power. was told 1.5 weeks for appointment. 1 week later 'dpf 100% full, see dealer'. dealer did forced regen, cleared codes, back to normal. i never received any warnings about dpf becoming full. no early regen notification.
Exhaust fumes fill cabin: 2015 4x4 ecodiesel. when driving in slow traffic speeds of less than 30 mph or stopped, the cabin becomes filled with exhaust fumes. this appears to be coming in through the ventilation system, as it is quite noticeable when it is blowing directly in your face. it has become progressively worse and stronger over time. while the truck is moving at normal highway speeds it is not noticed, or at least as compared to what is noticed when at lower speeds or when stopped. the fumes continue to increase and become quite heavy while operating at the slower speeds or stopped. this issue has been addressed in a recall (r04) for 2014 and 2015 ram 4x2 ecodiesels but not in ram 4x4 ecodiesels as of 10/5/17.
Tl* the contact owns a 2015 ram 1500 eco diesel. while driving approximately 55 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. in addition, the engine caught fire. the contact extinguished the fire. there were no injuries and a fire report was not filed. the vehicle was towed to a local dealer (skinner and damulis, 3144 us-20, richfield springs, ny 13439) where it was determined that there was no manufacturer defect. the manufacturer investigated the failure and confirmed that there was no manufacturer defect. the failure mileage was 46,000. the vin was not available.
To whom it may concern, i own a 2015 ram 1500 big horn crew cab with 8 speed (8hp70) transmission. the truck intermitently issues check engine light and goes away a few times through out the day and or will stay off. obdii code p1d8c is stored currently in the car. this is the code that says (parking prawl selonoid in open position) this is close if not the same issue in 8hp70 transmission in other vehicles of other years that have been recalled. this is a safety issue because one day i wouldn't know if the truck is actually in park mechanically or not. currently i have not seen a recall for my current year model truck but bringing it to your attention as there are same or similar recalls for the same transmission in other models. check engine light has been on when in motion and also when parked, sometimes it'll go away both while moving or parked.
Tl* the contact owned a 2015 ram 1500. while the vehicle was parked, it caught fire and burst into flames. the fire department extinguished the fire. a police report was filed. the vehicle was towed to a towing lot. the vehicle was not taken to a dealer. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the vehicle was destroyed. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 20,000. the vin was not available.

P0299 under boost codes. after being thrown into limp mode and almost getting me and my family killed i got my dodge ecodiesel to the dealership. said its a software issue and there is no fix. was told to that its fine after they just cleared the engine light. great customer service!! just send them back out in the death trap.
I own a 2015 dodge ecodiesel and it has now actually shut down while driving twice, both times placing us in great danger. the first time my husband was driving on the highway. we took it to the dealership and they had to call in their "head engineers" to figure out the problem. after several days, they finally identified that the truck needed many (i think they quoted around 20) software updates. however, we never got notice that the truck needed these updates and/or that if it didn't get these updates that it could just stop working at any time. the second time that this happened, i was driving the truck later at night (away from home) with 2 small children in the car and the truck shut down before i was able to find somewhere to pull over on a county road with no shoulder. we recently had a family killed in collin county due to a vehicle slowing and a driver behind colliding into the vehicle at a high rate of speed, so you can see how this has me even more terrified that we have a vehicle that does this without our control. i am appalled that dodge is able to put a vehicle on the road that can just shut down for no good reason putting people in grave danger. the check engine light is now on in the truck despite it seemingly working okay, for now. we took it to the dealership again and they are now saying that because we are slightly over miles that the warranty may not cover the fix to whatever is all of the sudden wrong with a 2 year old vehicle. again, how is dodge allowed to use this software that requires updates (even though they do not notify drivers) that is actually shutting down vehicles? what is the software actually doing?i feel that dodge should provide a guarantee that this truck will never do this again, but i don't know how that is even possible. i would like answers from dodge asap.
Has stalled while driving 2 times in the last week. the first time the radio and dash cluster stopped working then the truck engine shut off doing 80 down the highway. the second time it was just the engine that shut off doing 60 mph on a 2 lane road
Eco diesel engine has been serviced three times for "electronic throttle control" failure. once idiot light comes on truck loses all power. currently in dealership to be serviced and i'm being told that chrysler is unaware of a current fix. the first time in was told that a hose had to be replaced. second time that it was a programming update, now they don't know.
While driving the truck there was a thump sound which cause the truck to stall causing truck to slow down instantlay. however it does this for a few seconds then it will accelerate and continue on drliving. this has happened several times even after taking it to the dealership. they said they can't find anything wrong but it has no certain speed that it will do it. it just happens randomly with no specific speed when it happens. it happened on the interstate and on a regular highway road there was a difference in speed each time.
April 14, 2017 my husband was heading east on i-20 in the tyler, texas area located in smith county texas.approaching his turn off at hwy 14. when exiting on the ramp he noticed smoke coming from the back of the truck. he looked and the service engine light was on and he began losing power. he was able to pull to a large parking area away from others. he got out of the vehicle and approached the hood when he noticed flames coming from the engine. he backed away from the vehicle at that time and called 911. our vehicle is not a total loss. last fall we had to replace the entire fuel system $6500 when the vehicle had less than 20,000 miles on it. now at little over 30,000 miles it's a total loss. i have contacted chrsyler and they are suppose to send inspectors to see if they can determine the cause. insurance inspectors are also coming this week too. i've read a lot of negatives for this truck and saw there was a recall for 4x2's for wiring issues that could short and cause a fire. our truck was a lone star 4x4 and not under this recall. i think these vehicles need to be looked at harder!! too many issues from too many owners.
Tl* the contact owns a 2015 ram 1500. while driving 70 mph, the vehicle went into idle mode and stalled. the lighting bolt warning indicator illuminated. the vehicle was towed to stephens auto center (104 stephens st, danville, wv 25053) where it was diagnosed that an unknown sensor needed to be reset. the vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and did not assist. the vin was unknown. the failure mileage was 26,000.
While pulling into traffic the truck suddenly stopped without any warning, i lost my power steering, power brakes as well as the ability to have power to the engine. i tried to start the diesel engine, but the starter just tried starting it for approx. 20 seconds, i did not have the ability to turn starter off since it is a push button start and it finally timed out. i waited approx 5 min. and was able to get it restarted, the check engine light came on and i drove it to the dealer. the mileage was approx. 36,100 miles. i had to keep my fingers crossed hoping it would not die on me as i drove about 5 miles to the dealer. my greatest concern is the safety issue of complete loss of power and what may happen if you were on a hill or going around a sharp turn where the steering and brakes systems would not operate properly. my truck has an ecodiesel engine. the dealer told me the truck ha dmultiple problem codes on the computer analysis. they told me the problem was caused by loose pins in a connector and a loose ground wire. i never had any problem like this and the suddenness of this problem was scary.
At 24300 miles the engine began vibrating very hard and then quit. after checking the oil, it was good, i crept the truck to a convenience store and called aaa. towed vehicle to nearest chrysler dealership. they did not have enough certified techs to fix my truck without it being at dealer for 2 months. service mgr called around and found a dealer who could repair truck. metal pieces including bearings were found in the oil pan. chrysler replaced the engine under warranty. no explanation was given and when asked if the problem has been fixed on the new engine received no answer. i do not know what caused the engine failer or whether ram has fixed this ever occurring again.
Event: on september 7th at approximately 07:16pm my wife and i were driving on hwy 380 at milepost 44 in a remote part of new mexico between roswell and san antonio. our speed was approximately 70 mph. we had been traveling for 6 days and approximately 2000 miles between vancouver, wa and the location the engine failed. the engine on my 2015 ram ecodiesel began making a groaning sound. no warning lights appeared on my dash and within minutes the sound became louder and the engine was having difficulty. finally, there was a loud "bang" and the engine lost power. again, no warning lights and no indication of what was happening. once the car rolled to a stop a "low oil pressure" light finally appeared on the panel. the truck was inoperable and came to a rest impeding traffic.i pulled the oil dipstick and took three readings and the oil reservoir was full. we pushed the uconnect "assist" button and a tow truck was summoned. we were towed to sierra blanca ram dealership in ruidoso, new mexico. after the dealership inspected the engine they discovered the number 5 cylinder had exploded and cracked the engine block in the process. the mechanic told us the engine would need to be replaced. the dealership called chrysler warranty and as of 09.17.16 we still have no answer from chrysler on whether they will approve a new engine. the mechanic has told me several times over the past week that chrysler will not approve replacement of a new engine until several more "pictures and documentation" can be submitted. this, despite the dealership recommendation that we need a full engine replacement immediately and there is no other option than a full engine replacement.
Tl* the contact owns a 2015 ram 1500. while driving at a low speed, the low oil pressure indicator warning indicator illuminated. the contact stopped and checked the oil level and the dipstick showed the correct oil level. the contact restarted the vehicle and a "no oil pressure" warning indicator illuminated. the vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the oil pump failed, which damaged the engine. the contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 13,000. the vin was not available.
On 8/11/2016truck stalled/shut off while driving on a highway; was able to restart in attempts to make it home. the truck continued to act up and low coolant light appeared approximately 5 miles down the highway. truck was towed from highway location to local ford/chrysler dealership who looked over and stated was a gallon low on coolant and to "watch." upon research online and others having issue checked the egr which was saturated, return back to dealership on 08/18/2016 for repair with engine warranty but informed this would not be covered as it was a basic component. called dodge who stated same information non-coverage of engine warranty, as is a bolt on item (although it related to engine, in fact one employee was shocked it was not covered under engine). further discussion they'd pay half minus tax and testing, leaving a 840.72 shop bill on a 2015 truck, which we paid and truck returned on 08/26/2016.
Tl* the contact owns a 2015 ram 1500. while driving 75 mph, the vehicle lost acceleration and the messages "no oil pressure", "the last oil change was done at 40,000 miles" appeared. the vehicle was coasted over to the shoulder and was unable to restart. the vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed that metallic chips were found in the oil. the vehicle required a new engine. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was notified. the approximate failure mileage was 32,400.
While towing our camper the engine started on fire and totally burned along with our camper. it was a total destruction. we were not hurt. fiat chrysler automobiles is claiming no responsibility.
Tl* the contact owns a 2015 ram 1500. while driving 75 mph, the engine stalled without warning and all the lights on the instrument panel illuminated. the vehicle was towed to the local dealer where it was diagnosed that the engine ecu sensor and transmission pcu sensor failed. in addition, the vehicle experienced numerous electrical failures with the headlights and the instrument panel electrical sensor system. the front frame also separated due to defective bolts. the manufacturer was notified. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 6,240.
Vehicle check engine light came on, took to dealer who noticed black sludge in coolant. i was told it wouldn't be under warranty and someone had sabotaged truck. i told them it looked like oil in coolant and that's exactly what it was. faulty oil cooler led to oil in every part that engine coolant encompasses. this leads to the truck overheating very quickly at times. possibility of coolant in the engine black as well, they cannot prove otherwise which could lead to cracked engine blocks. my truck has been in the shop for approx 75 days and they have replaced numerous parts with no remedy to the check engine light continuing to come on. vehicle was in motion when light originally came on. it's now been to two different dealers and i have researched and discovered hundreds of other cases. this is a faulty oil cooler in 2014-2017 models of the dodge eco diesel 1500 pickup. fca put me off for weeks saying they would call me and never would, the dealership refused to give me paperwork detailing the process and fca could not reach the dealership for weeks. this truck has an issue that chrysler needs to address.

Follow-up to complaint number: 10809870 2015 ram 1500 laramie limited 4x4 component part or system that caused the safety risk - unknown i took delivery of my truck from the service center on 12/18/2015. the ignition switch and the receiver hub were replaced. on 12/26/2015, my wife and i were on date-night headed to a local bowling alley when my truck went dead electronically and engine-wise again. again, the truck could not be restarted and again nothing worked. thankfully, we were just driving in the parking lot near the bowling alley and there was no safety concerns. my truck is now at the dealership again.
2015 ram 1500 laramie limited 4x4 component part or system that caused the safety risk - unknown my truck was purchased new with 115 miles on the odometer on 10/13/2015 at hebert's town & country. on 10/16/2015, with just over 200 miles on the odometer, my wife and i were returning home from date-night. we were traveling at 60 mph down la3132 when the instrument cluster went black, the engine shutdown, most all electronics, to include the headlights, ceased functioning and the rpm & mph gauges constantly bounced up and down. i was able to coast safely to the shoulder of the road as the traffic was light. i could not restart the vehicle so, it had to be towed back to the dealership. five days later, i took re-delivery of my truck with an additional 200 miles added to the odometer and a verbal explanation (no paperwork) that the power distribution center had to be replaced. upon re-delivery with my salesman present, i attempted to start the vehicle and the instrument cluster blacked out and the gauges bounced. my salesman went to get a service tech but, while he was gone, i heard a click in the dash and everything started working again. on 12/11/2015, with just under 60 days ownership and right at 700 miles on the odometer, i was returning home from shopping, traveling down a residential street, when the exact same problems suddenly happened again. this time, i was traveling at 30 mph and approaching an s-curve with no headlights and no street lights. i lost control of the vehicle as the brakes were very hard to apply and i almost had an accident before finally getting it stopped. the vehicle had to be towed back to the dealership again because i could not restart it and the gauges were bouncing. my truck is currently at the dealership. i'm not sure i want to take re-delivery of this particular truck.

Went to do an oil change and noticed oil in the coolant expansion tank. took picture and showed dealership. they asked us to have it towed in. this is a larmine eco diesel with 9,600 miles on the engine. dealership still hasn't figured out what the "did not train" error message was -previously reported along with the steering shacking at highway speeds.

I had decided to change my oil myself for the truck's second oil change because i wanted to use ams oil. i bought the filter from a local parts store because ams did not offer one. i began to drain the oil and then removed the old filter. after it drained for 20 minutes i installed the new filter and oiled the new o-ring and installed it on the factory cap and torqued it to 20 foot pounds. i poured the 6 quarts of new oil in the engine, warmed it up and shut it down. i then checked the filter for leaks and checked my oil level. everybody should be able to change their own oil right? well i guess that's not true with this truck according to the dealer service center. it was about 3000 miles later when i was at work and noticed a puddle of oil under the truck. i looked underneath and the bottom of the transmission and other parts were coated with oil. i checked the level and nothing registered on the dip stick so i had my new truck towed to the dealer. they told me that i didn't use oem parts and i'm not qualified to change my own oil and that is why oil was gushing all over the top of my engine! notice that driving a vehicle with an engine coated with oil is a huge safety issue. the dealer charged me for a new oil change, wiped the oil off where they could and refused to have the engine steam cleaned. they sent me on the street with oil on my engine! i tried to have it cleaned but could not find anybody that could do it that day. i had to drive it the next day and it didn't catch fire so i let it go. i am now at 23,578 miles (incident happened at 16,893) and i'm starting to notice it leaking a little bit again. this is a serious safety issue! i've seen many complaints about this and somebody could get killed! now i'm going to go complain about all the transmission problems my 2015 chrysler 200 is having. don't buy an fca product! you will be sorry! *tr
The truck is an ecodiesel. this is a replacement truck from a buyback on a 2014. both trucks are the same, one 2014 and one 2015. in cold weather they fail to start. between the two trucks they have been towed a total of 4 times. one truck had 2800 miles the other 768. been out of service 9 weeks. neither truck will start after driven on a trip over 30 minutes and in cold weather. the non start condition is intermittent and not predictable. *js
