Problems with 2015 RAM 1500 POWER TRAIN

On average, the 2015 RAM 1500 starts to “feel” problems with the POWER TRAIN and its various aspects after 40 020 miles.

Recently reported POWER TRAIN problems on 2015 RAM 1500

This pertains to my 2015 dodge ram with the 3.0 liter ecodiesel engine. ever since i got the required emissions control engine and transmission software update from fiat chrysler automobiles (fca), my truck's engine performance has been affected to the extent that i cannot depend on it's excelleration. i press on the gas peddle, and the engine hesitates severely before it accelerates. from a stop sign or a red light, the hesitation is such that i won't try to cross the intersection if there are any cars either to my right or left. similarly, the hesitation and acceleration lag makes merging onto a highway a safety concern. the trucks fuel economy has also been negatively affected. i urge the nhtsa to compel cfa to reverse the software update, or fix it such that the truck is no longer a driving safety concern.

Extreme lag during acceleration has almost resulted in multiple accidents. work commute has me turning left onto busy road with limited visibility due to blind corner and i've almost been t-boned/rear ended because of the lag between giving the truck gas and actual acceleration. this is becoming more prevalent as temperatures drop. this morning i spun out trying to avoid being rear ended while pulling out because the throttle goes from lag to full throttle with no gradual acceleration.

2015 ram 1500 ecodiesel. consumer writes with concern to delay in acceleration. *as the consumer stated the manufacturer was notified and knew of the defect. the manufacturer stated the vehicle was safe to drive, but the consumer disagreed. *js

The aem recall was completed and the truck has a horrible turbo lag, which almost caused me to be in an accident twice within 15 minutes of picking it up. dealership will not look at it and this is an unsafe vehicle for road use.

I had the recall from ram for the ecodiesel recall and now the truck is complete unsafe. i can't even accelerate into traffic without getting nervous. the truck lags and the throttle response is terrible now. instead of buying them back like volkswagen did, chrysler put us in death traps.

Fca issued a software update known at "aem" after they lost their class action lawsuit. i had my truck updated on 5/29/19 with the "aem", rotary shift autopark recall update, the seat belt recall update, airbag recall update, and the tailgate recall update. i also had a catastrophic egr system failure that made my truck inoperable for nearly three weeks. the vehicle is now utterly unpredictable. after the initial start, i randomly have no low-end power. the vehicle randomly lurches forward at full speed when i press the accelerator from a full stop. this morning i was turning left from a dead stop into traffic. i pressed the accelerator all the way to the floor and it barely inched forward for several seconds. suddenly it hit full power and launched into the roadway, barely in time to keep from being t-boned by oncoming traffic. soon thereafter i was in the middle of an intersection waiting for oncoming traffic to stop so that i could turn left. the light turned yellow and traffic stopped so i tried to turn. my truck stumbled and barely moved until it again, launched forward at full power causing the read end to skid out to the side and strike the curb of the sidewalk. additionally, the vehicle now has a completely random shift pattern. when cruising at 55 mph the engine may be running at 1500 rpm or it may be 2250 rpm. the inability to shift correctly at high speeds means that i cannot reliably merge with, or overtake traffic. it also means that my truck cannot reliably tow a load without posing a threat to the general public. it's not predictable and it's dangerous.

My vehicle was recalled for an "approved emissions modification" aem. it was stated that, "the aem was not expected to change any of your vehicle attributes...etc" after my vehicle received the aem it changed my vehicle's performance and safety. 1. the vehicle lost the low end power and you have to step on the gas just to get the vehicle to respond. i've experienced lag times that exceed 4 seconds. this happens either from being at a full stop, casual, or freeway driving. 2. when going up a steep hill at slow speeds (15 mph for example) the vehicle shifts up until the truck bogs down and almost comes to a stop. pushing on the accelerator revs the engine up, pauses for a few seconds, then drops into a low gear and jerks forward. this lasts momentarily until the vehicle upshifts again and bogs down. this cycle is repeated over and over if you have to ascend slowly. 3. when accelerating unto the freeway, the transmission will not shift into 8th gear. it holds at 2100+ rpm and won't shift up unless you take your foot off the accelerator! this vehicle is a hazard on the roadway and unsafe to drive. additionally, the aem has caused my truck to get a 20% reduction in mpg. i have taken the vehicle in several times and opened up a case. i was just recently sent an e-mail reply saying "they" are finished with the investigation and, "your concerns with the vehicle's performance have been fully diagnosed by our certified service department and it has been determined that what you are experiencing is a common and acceptable characteristic of the vehicle's design; this means that the vehicle is operating within its factory engineered specifications and there are not currently any repairs that will alter the vehicle's performance to meet your expectations." fiat chrysler automobiles will not repair/restore my vehicle to be safe and meet the specs that i purchased!

Tl* the contact owns a 2015 ram 1500. while driving 70 mph with the cruise control engaged in eighth gear, the vehicle downshifted into sixth gear. in addition, the check engine warning indicator illuminated and the fuel mileage decreased. the vehicle was taken to carlock chrysler dodge jeep ram fiat of tupelo (966 cross creek dr, saltillo, ms 38866, (662) 842-2277) where it was diagnosed that the egr cooler burst and was leaking. the vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. the manufacturer was contacted and referred the contact to the local dealer. the failure mileage was 72,435. *bf *tp

Did the aem recall emissions reprogram. the truck now has very slow acceleration when cold. you have to floor the throttle to get it to move when cold. very dangerous when merging into traffic or leaving a stop. the fuel economy has dropped to 20-21 mpg from 25 and higher. it is a much different and not enjoyed truck anymore. talked with dealer. they are very aware of the issue as almost everyone has the same problems. nothing they can do but say "hopefully a different re flash or tune will be sent after the complaints" wishing now it was just a simple buy back offer.

I had the updated aem installed in my 2015 ram eco diesel. now at times i step on the gas and it lags really bad(no power). this could be bad while in traffic etc

Tl* the contact owns a 2015 ram 1500. the contact stated that there was a software patch update required for the vehicle. the contact took the vehicle to healey chrysler, dodge, jeep, ram (557 ny-52, beacon, ny 12508, (845) 831-1148) for the update to be performed. after the update was performed, the contact stated that the vehicle would not move when the accelerator pedal was depressed. the contact stated that it took 10-15 seconds before the vehicle would move forward. also, while driving on a highway, the vehicle would not accelerate over 70 mph. the contact informed the dealer of the vehicle's lack of performance. the dealer stated that due to the system update, the vehicle would take time to become accustomed to the update and that, over time, the vehicle would resume normal driving. the contact stated that the failure continued while driving home. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and stated that they were still awaiting another software update to correct the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was approximately 100,000.

Ecodiesel - following recall aem (approved emissions modification) update, throttle response is extremely poor at times. when turning onto a roadway from a stop the vehicle is sometimes very slow to accelerate, risk of collision due to being unable to increase to safe speed. when trying to accelerate under this condition the vehicle will suddenly abruptly accelerate which sometimes results in wheel spin (loss of traction). this happens in dry and wet conditions.

V08 recall. acceleration from any speed, including standing start is dangerously delayed, pulling into and across traffic is unpredictable. there is no throttle response until around 70% throttle, then acceleration is unpredictable and late. fuel consumption is beyond passable for such a potentially efficient and powerful engine. the purpose of the vehicle is light towing. the power train has been tuned to the point that it's useless, the vgt fights at above 70% capacity to maintain torque and power to the wheels. fuel injection timing ranges from -17 to +5 degrees, only to maintain emissions efficiency, the new ecu programming completely ignores efficient engine management- focusing on emissions control. system and engine components are not designed for the crazy egt temps that come with the late fuel injection. engine fires- intake manifold in particular- are becoming very common. will it take a few fatalities before something is done. all to prove some epa point. i could be getting 30 plus mpg, without the egr system, still target specific exhaust gas emissions reductions and get some reliability without fearing my vehicle will burst into flames or get t-boned trying to cross traffic.

My truck received the v08 emissions software recall before i purchased it in july of 2019. as with hundreds of other ecodiesel owners, i am experiencing a dangerous throttle lag when the engine is cold. if i try to turn left and merge into traffic, there is a several second delay before the truck starts building speed. i feel this could potentially cause a crash. i have unintentionally cut people off because of this throttle lag and angered other drivers. there are hundreds of people complaining about this after the v08 recall on internet forums. fca is supposed to have a fix coming according to the internet but who knows if that is true or how long it will take. the aem was "not supposed to alter vehicle performance" according to the recall letter. obviously that was not true. this is a dangerous problem that should be resolved in a timely manor. this should be addressed by a safety recall. some are also claiming their vehicles are catching fire after the aem was performed.

After v08/v11 recall was performed i now experience loss of acceleration till warm up. like a dead pedal. also a loss of a confirmed 5-6mpg. it was stated in the recall we would not loose mileage. if we did it would be very minimal. 5mpg is not minimal. my truck will barely stay in 8th gear now. just bouncing between 7th and 8th. now everyone is worried about all the fires due to egr valves sticking open and causing the plastic intake manifolds to catch fire. my wife is very nervous to take it on trips or even park it in the garage. we had new smoke detectors added in garage incase truck does catch on fire. please look into these issues. there are more than you think. pedal issue, loss of fuel mileage, engine compartment fires. thanks

After receiving the updated engine programming recall on my ecodiesel ram, the throttle response is dangerously slow when accelerating from a dead stop. there is a several second delay from me applying pressure to the throttle pedal and the engine reacting and accelerating. it's very difficult to judge when turning into traffic because of this delay. could easily cause someone to be rear-ended because the truck does not accelerate as expected. this was not the case prior to the recall.

After recall v08 /v11 updates: severly delayed trottle response when accelerating. from a stop to actual throttle responding to 3/4 pressure is at a minimum of 30-40 feet.

After v-08 emissions recall on ram echo diesel truck lost horsepower and getting lower fuel mileage. the truck barely has the power to move itself much less any towing capability. the fuel mileage went from 20 mpg highway to 15 mpg highway. have had the truck back in for service three times with no improvement. ram is telling me that there is not anything they can do to fix the problem, because it is a government recall. i did not purchase this truck to have it get 15 mpg on the highway and have no horsepower to tow. this truck is used as a ranch truck, so towing is what it needs to be doing. my only option now is to trade it in for a bigger truck at a financial hit on my wallet. this problem should of never been allowed to happen with the recall oversite. i know i'm not the only one having this issue because i have talked with many other truck owners and they all are having the same issue. i would apricate a fix to this issue because paying $50,000.00 for a truck only to have a recall take away the reason it was purchased is wrong. a new truck is going to cost around $65,000.00 and now that it's out that all ram 1500 eco diesel have this problem our trade in value has dropped. i had a trade in offer on my truck last month for $30,000.00 and as of last week it dropped to $21,000.00. so as you can tell this recall is affecting a lot of people. please look into this issue.

Had the ecm modification done pursuant to the emissions settlement between fiat chrysler and the epa. vehicle has become a terrible slug with horrible acceleration, and i have now had numerous incidents where it won't accelerate quickly enough to make a left turn without scaring me for fear of getting t-boned by oncoming traffic. similar problems merging into highway traffic; it just won't get the job done. it is clearly not the vehicle i purchased nor the vehicle it was before this software "downgrade".

I had the recall done ( v 08 ) , now the throttle response is terrible and the fuel mileage has dropped by two mpg in town and two and a half mpg on the highway . you don't want to pull out into traffic unless you have a lot room because of severe throttle lag , it will lag and then take off like a rocket , but you never know when , also downshifts on hills that it never used to before . i wish i would never had the recall done !!!!!!!!!!!!

I recently had the approved emissions modification performed on my 2015 ram 1500 ecodiesel. since the modification, the truck has a terrible lag when i take off, sometimes up to 5 seconds. this happens when i put my foot on accelerator and try to go. this lag is going to get me hit and possibly killed. online forums of fellow ram ecodiesel owners state the same problem. ram needs to get this fixed and push out an update that will fix the problem or i'm going to get injured or killed in this truck. it is no longer safe to drive because of this recall modification.

After recieving fca's recently released recall for the aem emissions recall the trucks performance is dangerously erratic. there are times the truck will hardly move from a stop pulling into cross traffic and other times it will accelerate extremely hard. this unknown makes it dangerous to operate in a lot of circumstances.

My 2015 ram ecodiesel is part of the fca recall for emmisions. immediately after the recall was performed on my vehicle i noticed a decline in performance. the vehicle has a severe lag in acceleration. i drove the vehicle for two weeks before it went back to the dealer to have them check it. they told me the vehicle is performing as designed. yesterday i drove the vehicle with a load in the bed 2 times. it is my opinion that my 2015 ram ecodiesel is completely unsafe to drive with any type of load in the bed or on a trailer. there are times where it has no acceleration at all for what seems like a lone time. probably 3-5 seconds before the vehicle responds. i have filed a complaint with fca but all they did was call the dealer and repeated to me that the vehicle performed as designed. all i am asking them for is to make my vehicle operate as it did before the emissions recall. my mpg has dropped drastically and the truck does not accelerate or shift as it did. this has resulted in severe lag when pulling out in to traffic, driving up hills and even starting from a dead stop at a traffic light or stop sign.

I recently had the aem recall update done on my 2015 ram 1500 ecodiesel and now my truck's performance and fuel mileage has really suffered. lost about 3 mpg and the truck is very sluggish now. it makes it dangerous to drive. it just barely moves when you press the accelerator pedal to merge into the flow of traffic. the transmission shifts rough and revs the engine higher before changing gears. very disappointed in the recall and fca for making a good running truck into a dangerous to drive piece of junik!

The emissions recall v08 has made my vehicle dangerous to pull out into traffic

Fca required v08 recall was completed and their aem installed to the pcm/tcm. i picked my truck up and immediately noticed it was down on power. since i have lost 4-5mpg average over what i was getting before the aem was installed. the truck is overall down on power since the aem was installed. as well the truck is dangerous to drive until the coolant temp reaches at least 150 degrees f. the truck has no power when the engine is below 150f and can't get out of its own way and leaves me vulnerable to a collision due to turbo lag and lack of power. if i pull into traffic to merge or cross an intersection my fear is i will not be able to accelerate quickly enough or avoid an accident should i need to. i cannot allow my wife to drive the truck any longer due to the dangers and lack of power.

After the reflash of ecu/tcm on ram eco diesel for emissions the truck is dangerous to drive with excessive turbo lag when cold. it often hesitated several seconds before moving.

I had the required aem update done 6/18. this is for the eco diesel emission settlement. since this was done it is a different truck. when cold, throttle delay is significant. its dangerous as you can't get moving without flooring it! it gets better as it warms up but still feels lethargic and fuel consumption is worse.

Involving the eco diesel emissions update performed on my 2015 ram 1500 at the dealership by fca on 06/11/19 said it would not change the driveablity of the vehicle but it has, in the acceleration that is delayed or sometimes just not there at all, this is inconsistent and intermittent when pulling out onto a roadway i must take the possibility in mind that the vehicle might not get going into the flow of traffic, i find this to be a safety hazard for every day drivers. thank you ,please advise

After mandated "reprogramming" for the ecodiesel settlement on may 29th, truck does not accelerate from standing start, transmission has failed to engage. have to turn truck off and restart and hope transmission engages in drive.

Since applying the ecodiesel settlement ecu flash, my vehicle is downright dangerous to drive. especially when not fully warmed up, shifting and turbo lag makes the vehicle nearly undriveable in certain circumstances. the gas pedal has a huge lag and non-linear behavior (press to floor, nothing, then everything all at once). shifting, passing, fuel econony, and driveability were hugely impacted by their emissions update and it has made this expensive truck unsafe, because it is unpredictable based on vehicle and transmission "warmup". when cold the truck is unsafe.

After completing the approved emissions modification, per the fca-epa lawsuit settlement, i've noticed substantial turbo lag and shifting issues (holding gear too long). this is particularly dangerous when pulling out onto streets or expressways where i need to accelerate up to speed quickly. there is a 3-5 second lag before the turbo begins spooling and my truck begins accelerating.

Had v08 recall done and lost approx 5mpg and when leaving a stop sign at times cannot get to move very sluggish and a lot of throttle lag dealer states nothing is wrong along with fca but the truck did not do this prior to v08 recall

I had previously filed a complaint in regards to the effect of the aem (v08) ecodiesel class action settlement recall. the number of the previous complaint is: 11210536. in addition to what was previously reported as dangerous/safety related, the vehicle for several minutes after a cold start, although apparently running smoothly, when attempting to accelerate, will not. a turtle could out run the vehicle. it takes over 5 minutes of driving to get a more reasonable acceleration. again, regardless of a cold start, the vehicle will not accelerate after normal driving, then slowing, and then trying to accelerate. it takes several seconds for the transmission to downshift and for the turbo lag to go away - very dangerous when turning in front of or merging with traffic.

After class action settlement of ecodiesel and after aem installed (modification of ecm and tcm for emissions) there is a substantial lag (turbo, transmission) that results in the vehicle not accelerating- like your dead in the water. when pulling into a busy lane of traffic it is extremely dangerous when the vehicle will not accelerate.

Re: 2015 ram 1500 pickup with 3.0 ecodiesel engine and automatic transmission following the v08 emissions recall, drivability has been seriously reduced and has created dangerous throttle lag and improper automatic transmission gear selection. i would summarize these issues as turbo lag and improper shift mapping. when accelerating from a complete stop there is a 2-3 second lag before the vehicle begins to move even if the throttle is fully depressed. if you are executing a right or left turn into traffic or crossing an intersection this will leave you exposed to a "t-bone" collision. after this lag it will then accelerate rapidly at full throttle, much faster than you are expecting. if you are executing a turn this could cause loss of control or a wider turn than desired, possibly into another lane of traffic or off the far side of the road. this behavior is even more pronounced when the vehicle has not been run (cold engine). climbing a moderate hill shortly after pulling out of my driveway forces the driver to manually downshift the automatic transmission to first gear to get any forward travel. again, the vehicle will rapidly accelerate after the 2-3 second lag. once returning to "drive" at 15-25 mph the transmission will up-shift several gears and then begin slowing, dropping engine rpm to 1,000, again forcing a manual down-shift to second or third gear to maintain speed. the engine produces almost no power until the engine reaches 2000 rpm. all of this behavior began after the noted recall. i have contacted a ram dealer regarding this performance and was told that this is a common complaint. they mentioned that the factory was aware of this but has no remedy available. *js

Aem recall following the aem recall on the dodge ram ecodiesel, vehicle experiences dead spots in it acceleration. pressing the gas pedal, even to the floor, provides no input to the truck for 3-5 seconds. this issue has placed myself and my family in danger in multiple intersections and in merging traffic. vehicle has also experienced deminished fuel mileage of over 3mpg. fca specifically states the following: "the aem is not expected to change any of your key vehicle attributes, such as average fuel economy, reliability, durability, vehicle performance, drivability, engine noise or vibration, or other driving characteristics. click here to read the court approved notice that includes important additional details about the effect of the aem on your vehicle." almost all of the vehicle characteristics listed are affected in a negative way. in doing so, fca is placing all ecodiesel owners at risk.

Fiat chrysler (fca) recently settled a class action lawsuit affecting my ram ecodiesel truck. after that settlement, i was required to get a software flash called the "approved emissions modificatoin" (aem). after receiving that software "fix", my truck drives notably different and is now very dangerous due to the huge drop in power and increase in turbo lag. especially when the engine is cold or not completely up to operating temperature, i experience almost no throttle response when pulling out onto a highway by my house. there is a huge amount of turbo lag, to the tune of several seconds, which makes pulling out into traffic a very dangerous event. this was never an issue prior to the required aem update, so i'm filing a complaint to outline this drastic decrease in performance which is downright dangerous for thousands if not millions of ram and jeep customers.

After getting the most recent 'v08' recall on my 2015 ram eco diesel i've since had extreme lag on the truck when taking off. this make it extremely difficult when pulling out into traffic. this was not an issue before the update.

Why my vin number is not in the nhtsa data base regarding the ram 1500 pick up recall for 2014-2016 vehicles? involving majority of the drive train, exhaust, evc, and air intake.

Was driving down a highway and all the warning lights lit up like a christmas tree on the dash. then the vehicle started to slow down by itself and then started to take off by itself. as i was slowing down it leaped forward into oncoming traffic when i was trying to turn off the highway. this is the second time this has happened with this vehicle. the first time this happened the dealership couldn't make it repeat so they sent me on my way with no resolution. this time, i got an extreme amount of attitude from the dealership saying i was causing the problems and that i didn't want any help after they mentioned they were going to charge me. i'm surprised they let me have that truck back as dangerous as it is but they certainly did. this thing is like a time-bomb. just waiting for the next incident and there certainly will be one. they would not let me have the paperwork this last time because i would not sign it.

Making the 12 mile trip to work when at mile 10 my truck experienced a decrease in power followed by a shuddering noise when on the throttle. limped the vehicle off to the shoulder where i noted smoke. opened the hood to discover a small fire toward the rear of the engine compartment. tried to extinguish the flames with no luck and with in 5 mins the flames had engulfed the front of the truck.

Exhaust manifold bolts continually shear off from the high heat displacement of the 5.7 v8 hemi engine. symptoms include a rapid ticking sound during engine startup.

My driveway is on a slight incline and for the 3rd time since purchasing this truck, when i put the truck in park it has rolled backwards. this happened again today and i had to jump in the truck while it is moving and put the brakes on. this has the 8 spd transmission with the rotary knob.

After 3 recalls were performed, including a transmission shifter recall the vehicle now surges and lurches forward when i start it. it is fully in the park position and not moving. i now have to be sure to have my foot firmly on the brake when i start the vehicle. the vehicle is just barely out of the extended warranty at 75, 040 miles.

This is the second ram i have ownec with a shift knob on the dash. both have failed around 60k miles. in both trucks the shift will randomly either go jnto neutral or park while stopped.. has happened to me at red lights. i've had to shift back to park and reset the desired gear. on 3 separate occasions i had cycle the shifter 3 times before it would go into gear causing traffic to back up. i replaced the shifter and cured the problem on both trucks. this is obviously not an isolated incident and should be a safety recall.

I have received various recall notices on this vehicle which i would like someone to look into this to see if this car qualifies as a lemon. these items have been fixed by the different dealer ships, but have more than 5 recalls is a bit too much.

Twice with in a period of three weeks the same issue/failure has occured. "service electronic throttle control". both times the issue occured during rush hour traffic, at freewat speeds, while driving on a freeway. bith occurences resilyed in total loss of acceleration. i was left with limited ability to manuever on the freeway, to the right lanes, as well as limited ability to maneuver and avoid traffic from behind, as well to switch lanes to exit the freeway safely. once exited he vehicle would only reach a top speed of 39mph. bith times the dealership reported the issue as an egr valve problem.

Metal fragments in the engine and i have been to two different dealerships for powertrain warranty for repeated and ongoing repairs since fall of 2018 the first dealership did not replace the engine when the metal fragments were found in my engine after a cylinder misfire 5 and 7 they continued with all kinds of repairs and did further damage to my entire truck. i have since taken to another dealership where i was told and given proof for my vin that i need an engine replacement but chrysler refuses to do it based on the powertrain warranty and stand behind the initial problem and what needs to be done (engine mark service manager . they decided to continue with part replacement after part replacement which is billed to chrysler under the powertrain warranty that i have on my truck. i believe they not only lied but committed fraud with all of these repairs. they could not even stop the oil from leaking each time they sent my vehicle home with me. i took it to billion in bozeman to have them look over for damages and see if my truck was properly repaired. i was told that i should have had an engine replacement due to metal fragments in the engine oil at the very beginning of the repairs. but butte decided to milk my truck and chrysler for hours and hours as well as parts that who knows if they really replaced them. they also damaged a handful of things on my truck that had to be repaired at billion dodge. i have never been treated or taken advantage of as butte mile high has done. in talking to others that know vehicle engine repair there were parts that do not break that they claimed broke, they also stated they honed a cylinder which would have required them pulling the engine and proper honing is all cylinders, not just one. they also cut pieces out of my basically newer truck (52,000) miles and left damages.

Ecodiesel truck for the past 6 months shuts off randomly while driving, starting from a stop and when idling whenever fuel tank reaches 1/4 full or less. truck is difficult hard to start when at 1/3 fuel level. on june 28th 2018 after truck shut off on freeway brought it to the dealer and i was told there is nothing wrong and i need to keep the fuel tank greater than quarter tank fuel to prevent the truck from shutting off while driving. this is not a solution and it's very scary to be driving with a large trailer and your truck shuts off on the road.
