Truck caught fire while driving on highway. no warning signs on dash. started to slow down then smoke started coming from front of hood as if overheating. i pulled over to emergency lane, turned car off , then popping sound causing truck to go into flames and popping with big explosion and burning rapidly. i was able to get out because i had door already cracked open and ran away from vehicle.
81,000 miles on a eco diesel. on trip. cruise set at 75mph on i20 basically going straight. a warning light came on, something like 'electronic throttle.' it did not stay on long. immediately started loosing power but engine still running but not responsive. finally came to a halt and engine died. electricity still working as put on emergency flashers. started calling ram roadside assistance. my wife said she smelled something. about maybe 30 seconds later we could smell something on fire. seconds later smoke billowing from beneath hood. we bailed out. good samaritan stopped within a few minutes with fire extinguisher. he and i popped hood and flames are shooting about 18' along back of engine compartment. we got fire out but was still smoldering. had already called 911. about 5-10 min later rural fire department arrived and doused engine with water as it was still 'hot' and we were on shoulder of highway beside large area of dry grass. firefighters seemed to think it was electrical in nature. came home and began to research 1500 ram ecodiesels catching fire. seems there have been a number of instances and also seeing fca is not acknowledging a potential problem. this is my work vehicle for my small business so presently incapacitated. thank you!
After having the required fca emission update, the truck will hesitate when pulling into traffic or attempting to climb a hill until fully warmed up. pressing the accelerator to the floor does nothing for several seconds, then the truck accelerates dramatically. this nothing/everything, is dangerous to the driver and passengers of the truck as they may be struck by another vehicle that they are not able to get out of the way of. the truck is dangerous to other highway users as the nothing/everything throttle may cause a loss of control of the truck. this is a drastic change in the driving characteristics of this truck from the prior to flash settings. apparently dealers can not return the vehicle to it's previous settings, making them liable for the safety of the trucks driver and passengers. the epa lawsuit against fca has put numerous highway users ar risk!
I can not let my window up on the driver side. when i contacted the dealer which is milton rueben they advised me that this is a common problem but it's not a recall. if one or more vehicles are having this problem then this is a manufacture's issue and should be a recall issued.
When coming to a stop, a strong smell of diesel and def or anti freeze comes into cab. windows are up, it comes thru the vents.
I was driving my truck down the highway i stopped at a stoplight my truck stalled i saw smoke i popped the latch in the engine was on fire i was at a four way intersection waiting for my light to turn green wca ex news in burlington vermont caught the whole thing on film and they aired it that afternoon october 22, 2019 on the new news https://youtu.be/of0znw1h3rc
The aem recall was completed and the truck has a horrible turbo lag, which almost caused me to be in an accident twice within 15 minutes of picking it up. dealership will not look at it and this is an unsafe vehicle for road use.
Vehicle began to smoke from engine bay. motor cut out and then burst into flames.
Motor caught fire and destroyed vehicle. this was parked at a home.
Interrion of truck fills up with water because third brake light, manifold bolts and gaskets need replaced due to some issue. tapping noise from engine compartment.
After completing the emissions recall on the eco diesel a significant lag in acceleration has occurred. this lag impacts ability to keep with the flow of traffic when merging etc. this is a safety hazard as it is unpredictable and driver cannot determine acceleration by simply pressing the pedal down - sometimes with a 5-10 second delay in response to accelerate. this can occur from a stop, and merging onto a highway, from a stop light and making a uturn in the authorized areas, when merging onto a freeway ramp.
After v-08 emissions recall on ram echo diesel truck lost horsepower and getting lower fuel mileage. the truck barely has the power to move itself much less any towing capability. the fuel mileage went from 20 mpg highway to 15 mpg highway. have had the truck back in for service three times with no improvement. ram is telling me that there is not anything they can do to fix the problem, because it is a government recall. i did not purchase this truck to have it get 15 mpg on the highway and have no horsepower to tow. this truck is used as a ranch truck, so towing is what it needs to be doing. my only option now is to trade it in for a bigger truck at a financial hit on my wallet. this problem should of never been allowed to happen with the recall oversite. i know i'm not the only one having this issue because i have talked with many other truck owners and they all are having the same issue. i would apricate a fix to this issue because paying $50,000.00 for a truck only to have a recall take away the reason it was purchased is wrong. a new truck is going to cost around $65,000.00 and now that it's out that all ram 1500 eco diesel have this problem our trade in value has dropped. i had a trade in offer on my truck last month for $30,000.00 and as of last week it dropped to $21,000.00. so as you can tell this recall is affecting a lot of people. please look into this issue.
I recently had the emissions reflash recall for my 2015 ram 1500 ecodiesel. i was told this would not affect driveability, fuel mileage, or engine performance. well, it has affected all. my fuel milage has dropped( used to get around 22 combined, lucky to get 20 now). the engine is lacking power and vehicle downshifts on grades where it didnt before. the turbo is also louder. i assume this is from them choking down the vanes on the turbo to account for less fuel being delivered to reach their emission claims. my biggest concern has to do with the extreme lack of response from a dead stop. it makes pulling out in traffic a safety concern. you can literally put the pedal to the floor board and the truck will barely move then suddenly it will take off. it does this no matter how much throttle is being applied it has a delay.this vehicle is no where near what it was when i purchased it. i feel that if this reflash is the best solution to them lying about their emissions to begin with, perhaps fiat, chrysler should be buying these vehicles back instead of making more false claims.
After i had the aem installed on my dodge ram ecodiesel the truck would loose power when trying to accelerate and when pulling out into traffic from a complete stop. on thursday july 11 2019 i was pulling into traffic from a stop sign and the truck stalled in the middle of the road! i was almost hit by the cross traffic. i currently have my truck at the dealership, however i have read many complaints in regards to the same problem others are having. i am scared to drive this truck and i am hoping the fca can make dodge come up with a fix for this issue or lemon law these vehicles as they are dangerous to the person driving and the others on the road!
After the fca emissions update my trucks performance has changed so much as to become a danger to me and my family. the truck will not go to get in traffic and i fear being t-boned by another vehicle. when you go to execrate the truck is sluggish and is very slow to go.
Fca required v08 recall was completed and their aem installed to the pcm/tcm. i picked my truck up and immediately noticed it was down on power. since i have lost 4-5mpg average over what i was getting before the aem was installed. the truck is overall down on power since the aem was installed. as well the truck is dangerous to drive until the coolant temp reaches at least 150 degrees f. the truck has no power when the engine is below 150f and can't get out of its own way and leaves me vulnerable to a collision due to turbo lag and lack of power. if i pull into traffic to merge or cross an intersection my fear is i will not be able to accelerate quickly enough or avoid an accident should i need to. i cannot allow my wife to drive the truck any longer due to the dangers and lack of power.
After emissions update truck has loss of power when merging in traffic and sometimes when passing someone truck feels like a shifting high and low rapidly.i took to the dealer they said they cant find any codes and was told it has to be the new software from dodge and they cant do anything about that.so far i had 2 close calls when merging into traffic and check engine light goes on sometimes and im using more fuel.truck was running great before the emissions update
After the emissions recall flash of the ecm on the ecodiesel ram 1500s the truck does not accelerate from a stop causing dangerous situations when pulling out on to roads. after the ecm flash there has been numerous times i have almost been t-boned when attempting to make a left turn on to streets. you hit the accelerator and the truck creeps along for a good 4 or to 8 seconds then it will accelerate.
Fca's approved emissions modification software was installed in my truck and now it has lost its power and there is a long turbo gap which is dangerous when trying to merge into traffic. when the engine is cold the truck will hardly take off from a stop sign. i have registered a complaint with ram and the dealership. the dealership told me that is a common complaint about the update and ram has not contacted me with any information.
I am writing this for my elderly father. he has a 2015 ram 1500 diesel pick up truck that falls under the eco diesel settlement (class action lawsuit). my dad had the approved emissions modification (aem) that was required to update the emissions control software on may 28, 2019. after the aem completed by the dealer, the truck had throttle issues. when my dad pushed the pedal to accelerate, the vehicle would significantly lag to the point of not accelerating. this is a **continuous** and dangerous condition that was caused by the factory supplied software update. my dad made a complaint to the dealer three hours after the aem was updated on 5/28/19. he also complained to the dealer on june 6, 7, 8 2019 and on many other occasions. they tell him it could take 6 months to fix this dangerous condition. the factory "fix" has now created a dangerous condition. the dealer either can't or won't fix it. many people have apparently complained to the dealer to where the dealer is now advising vehicle owners to not install the factory aem "fix". the dealer tells my dad that factory/corporate is working on a fix.
Had v08 recall done and lost approx 5mpg and when leaving a stop sign at times cannot get to move very sluggish and a lot of throttle lag dealer states nothing is wrong along with fca but the truck did not do this prior to v08 recall
I have had a severe vibration from the rear of my truck at speeds between 50mph and 75mph which vibrates the floor board and front seat and the also the center console. i have had the tires rebalanced. i have had the tires removed from the rims and the rims checked. i have had the truck fully inspected with no reported/known issues by the dodge dealer in shallotte, n.c. (victory dodge). this is the same type of incidence(s) reported in the 2014 dodge ram under nhtsa id nuber 10056977 service bulletin no. 16-001-14. dodge issued a service bulletin for the replacement of the rear prop shaft/u-joint in august of 2014. when you inquire to dodge of the issue they claim they no nothing about any issues.
My check engine light came on while i was driving down the interstate, followed shortly by a 'service def system ' see dealer' display on the dash. i was 300+ miles from home on a business trip, so i wasn't able to get it to my dealership quickly. i called a few dealerships in the area (central michigan), but none of them were going to be able to look at it for at least 4-5 days. after driving about 50 miles or so toward home, the display changed to 'service def system ' engine will not restart in 200 miles). i was advised by the dealer that it would continue running as long as i did not shut it off, so i drove it back to my hometown and directly to the dealer for service. it was determined that the issue was that the 3 bolts between the diesel particular filter and the scr had sheared. with exhaust coming out of that flange, the def injector, def injector connector, and the def supply line melted. regrettably, i don't know if they melted resulting in the check engine light coming on or if they melted after the light came on, but i would suspect that they were already damaged prior to the light coming on and it was the damage that cause the light to come on. the local dealer (leman ram) told me that it was my fault that those items melted because i drove the truck with the check engine light on. i asked what i should have done since i was nowhere near home and could not get my vehicle serviced, but they didn't have an answer. my contention is that the bolts between the particulate filter and the scr should not have sheared. i feel like this is a defect / design flaw and either way, this is what led to the damage to the def system. so basically, a design defect that resulted in the bolts shearing and causing damage elsewhere was blamed on me and resulted in me spending $1,168. the is a 2015 ram ecodiesel with 153,039 miles.
After the v08 recall my mpg went from the 27 to 31 to 19 to 21 mpg the recall was not supposed the changed the mileage that much... and the some time it slow to the start from a stop
Air suspension compressor went out. we live in minnesota and upon this happening i talked to the dealer and researched this issue online and it is a non stop issue. the dealer said they fix this same problem all the time but there is no recall. it is a expensive fix that dodge is not covering yet it happens all the time. please look into this issue.
Vehicle turns off when hitting potholes on city streets while driving have to stop put in park and restart said vehicle was in shop may of 2018 for same issue vehicle on has 1000 mls since last repair per allen samuels dodge service adviser in aransas pass texas
Passenger side storage well was completely filled with water. went unnoticed for unknown number of days. took vehicle into crown dodge of fayetteville. they acknowledged the growing number of complaints on the same issue. replaced 3rd brake light, they tried telling me that all door weather strips were worn and needed replaced. dealership did not look for, find or fix water damage to the seats, carpet or body panels. this is the second incident with water damage in the same spot while i have owned this vehicle.
The rear window leaks water into the cab of the truck when it rains.
The dealer had to replace the clockspring due to problems with the horn, airbag and steering/electrical. this was the same problem for 2012-2014 ram 1500s that were recalled, mileage for the truck is about 65000. cost for fixing it was 762.67. it is similar to nhtsa id number: 11065676 the contact owns a 2015 ram 1500. while driving various speeds, the lights on the steering wheel did not illuminate and the horn stopped working. chapman dodge chrysler jeep ram of scottsdale, arizona (3800 n 89th st, 85251) was made aware of the failure and requested that the vehicle be brought in for diagnostic testing. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 41,500.
Auto windows arbitrarily work or rattles violently. had this addressed with dealer four (4) times since brand new june 2015. still experiencing this and i'm concern that windows will fail or break abruptly when rolling up or down, in motion and/or stationary, well as my safety with windows failing.
Running board broke off due to errors with rivets fastened to the body instead of chassis frame
There isn't enough room for the entire ordeal, but i will do my best to congest it. june 19th: went to dealer ship with check engine light, nobody there knew what it meant, and they erased it and told me not to worry about it unless it comes back. july 3rd: vacation trip, about 2 hours into driving, truck looses throttle, solid check engine light comes on, "service electronic throttle control" smoke coming from engine bay, smelled like plastic to me. found what looked like a melted quarter sized boiling spot on the manifold? i believe. checked that engine light was solid, and on june 19th was told if light is solid, it's safe to drive, if it's blinking shut off imediately. it was solid. vacation's over, drive back to vegas at about 40-50mph (truck wouldn't go any faster) on blinkers the whole way with my fiancee in the passanger seat, and 3 year old son in the back seat. an hour ourside of vegas, truck was throwing flame balls and sparks out the rear, immediately pulled off to the desert, and evacuated my son and fiancee. grabbed red bulls and green teas to douse the fire. got the fire out after several minutes. if i didn't notice the sparks or fireballs, or if a fuel line caught on fire, we could have died. the entire underside of the truck was burned and the dpf on the exhaust was glowing bright red still. i spoke with an original engineer on the truck, through a facebook group for these trucks, which he states 2 weeks prior when i took the truck in, the egr must have started malfunctioning, and they shouldn't have brushed me off. which led to it sticking open, and blowing a hole in the intake manifold (the burning plastic smell) when i was driving back to safety (in the middle of nowhere), a regeneration occured causing the dpf to fill up, and essentially explode, and catch the truck on fire. truck is awaiting reps from detroit.
My truck keeps looking up the steering wheel. every morning when i first start the truck i have to let it sit for about 45 minutes. after the 45 minutes i turn the ignition off and on again and the steering will unlock. its unlocks when the transmission temp reaches about 190 degrees. sometimes the steering locks while i'm driving. i have reached out to doge and they said for me to take it to a dealer and pay for an estimate then to send it to them for them to see if they'll cover it. my have taken my truck for other recalls to planet dodge in miami and they've told me they've had plenty of trucks like mine come in with the same issue. this is very dangerous being sometimes when i am turning its locked up. i am aware there are recall for this same issue from dodge they say just not my truck but my truck is affected with the same problem they need to include more trucks in that recall. if you would like you can inspect my truck any time. this problem started about 6 months ago and gets worse every day. please help. when the trucks power steering is locked it say power steering maintance required.
Tailgate unexpectedly opens and falls down while driving. the problem is a defective latch inside of the tailgate, there is a metal tab that breaks off. this is a common problem according to complaints on the internet.
Tailgate drops many times while driving down the road and on occasion while parked the problem is in the auto lock . many complaints listed on the net with same problem.on one occasion while at grocery parking lot the tailgate fell on a 65 yr old lady walking by. i was terrified that i was going to get sued.
The left hand controls on the steering have quit working. the is no way to reset the oil change error after changing the oil. you can not use any of the left hand controls.
Entire truck shakes inside at 50+mph and does not go away the faster you drive. the shake started with factory tires and since putting new tires on the vehicle the shakes continue, feels like a drive line vibration or something in the rear end.. took to dealership and they blamed the new tires and would not investigate further but the shake was there prior to the new tires at the same speeds, i've had the new tires road forced balanced 3 times and each time the company said my tires are ok. lifting the rear of the vehicle up myself and putting into drive the right rear looks as if there is a wobble from the axle shaft and lots of noise from rear differential. there was a recall for this for july 2015 on about improper heat treatment but my build date was may 2015 and think that this truck is affected as well. this is a cause for concern because those axles that were defective have a possibility of breaking while driving and seems unsafe when your transporting family in the vehicle.
The ram vehicle caught on fire driving down the road. it burned fast i am not aware of the cause. i made a complaint to fiat when the fd informed me this was the fifth one he has put out in two week time frame. they and my insurance company had fire investigators come out ruled inconclusive. i have seen many ram trucks catch on fire since then. the truck was on a two way hwy back roads in motion when smoke was noticed and then just engulfed in flames.
Tailgate drops many times while driving down the road and on occasion while parked the problem is in the auto lock . many complaints listed on the net with same problem.on one occasion before i unplugged auto lock it fell while at grocery parking lot just missing someone walking by.
Ram 1500 hemi 2015 tradesman with the famous hemi tick. manifold bolts broke off causing loud tick sound at start up and sometimes when driving. i have read hundreds of complaints in regards of this hemi tick issue. why isn't this a recall. dealer is charging $650 each side.
One day last week i woke up and my left rear steering wheel control button stopped functioning. (turns the radio station tuning down) also the high mounted reverse lights do not work when in reverse. i also had a blown high mounted rear brake light bulb out which was replaced. horn works no check engine light. i have not taken it to do to diagnostic cost.
To whom it may concern, i own a 2015 ram 1500 big horn crew cab with 8 speed (8hp70) transmission. the truck intermitently issues check engine light and goes away a few times through out the day and or will stay off. obdii code p1d8c is stored currently in the car. this is the code that says (parking prawl selonoid in open position) this is close if not the same issue in 8hp70 transmission in other vehicles of other years that have been recalled. this is a safety issue because one day i wouldn't know if the truck is actually in park mechanically or not. currently i have not seen a recall for my current year model truck but bringing it to your attention as there are same or similar recalls for the same transmission in other models. check engine light has been on when in motion and also when parked, sometimes it'll go away both while moving or parked.
While driving the truck there was a thump sound which cause the truck to stall causing truck to slow down instantlay. however it does this for a few seconds then it will accelerate and continue on drliving. this has happened several times even after taking it to the dealership. they said they can't find anything wrong but it has no certain speed that it will do it. it just happens randomly with no specific speed when it happens. it happened on the interstate and on a regular highway road there was a difference in speed each time.
We where stopped at a red light the console display said to place the vehicle into park. the dashboard then lost power and smoke started to come out from under the hood it was a light gray at first but quickly changed to brown and the flames where coming out. i had just enough time to get out and get my 6yr old son out of his car seat and then call 911. within a couple of minutes the engine was in flames.
We bought this pickup new from the chrysler dealer in san jose on capital expressway. the problem, which i believe can turn deadly, is that the fuel filler tube on the vehicle is dropping below the entry cap. it gets pushed further down everytime you fill it up. sometimes you can not get the gas filler hose out of the tank. it once took three people to get it removed. i believe this to be a very dangerous situation. it tends to loosen the neck of the filler every time. i took it to the dealer and their response was "yeah, we know about that but there is no fix" i wrote to fiat and they blew it off. i am worried about this as a safety issue, you are my last resort. i had a picture but its too hard to see what going on, i'm not sure that's a help. this happens when the vehicle is stationary while pumping in gas. you are requesting a date when this happened. it happens every time i fill up.
On november 05, 2016 at approximately 1230 hours i walked out to my ram 1500 pick up truck, which was parked in my driveway and started it up. i pulled the truck forward in my driveway approximately a full truck length, put the truck in park and exited the truck, leaving the driver side door open. the truck was left idling. i began to walk to the rear of my truck, where a friend was standing near my flatbed trailer. the plan was to hook the trailer up to the truck. as i was walking to the rear of my truck, i observed the truck rolling backwards. i immediately turned around and began to run back to the truck. as the truck was rolling, the driver side door caught the tire of the vehicle parked next to it. as i jump back in the truck i check the shift indicator and observed it to be in park while rolling. the driver side door was then pushed backwards and into the driver side front fender. i then stepped on the brake and the vehicle came to a stop.
Upper instrument panel is sticky with excessive fogging of windshield. "dashboard" is sticky, won't clean up with water based cleaners/ cleaning wipes. residue on inside surface of windshield won't clean up without cleaner. the residue is excessive and causes moderate visibility problems when driving with sun directly in your face. noted excessive buildup of residue within two years of purchase - same time noted that build up of dust, bugs on the upper instrument panel started.
Vehicle check engine light came on, took to dealer who noticed black sludge in coolant. i was told it wouldn't be under warranty and someone had sabotaged truck. i told them it looked like oil in coolant and that's exactly what it was. faulty oil cooler led to oil in every part that engine coolant encompasses. this leads to the truck overheating very quickly at times. possibility of coolant in the engine black as well, they cannot prove otherwise which could lead to cracked engine blocks. my truck has been in the shop for approx 75 days and they have replaced numerous parts with no remedy to the check engine light continuing to come on. vehicle was in motion when light originally came on. it's now been to two different dealers and i have researched and discovered hundreds of other cases. this is a faulty oil cooler in 2014-2017 models of the dodge eco diesel 1500 pickup. fca put me off for weeks saying they would call me and never would, the dealership refused to give me paperwork detailing the process and fca could not reach the dealership for weeks. this truck has an issue that chrysler needs to address.
My dodge ram 2011 1500 and my 2015 dodge ram 1500 both when it rains my back under the seats gets filled with 2" rain water. this must be a inherit problem the roof must be leaking causing this rain water to run to that area. will cause rust area to cause weaken body to case seat to weaken in this area.
Diesel emissions: dozens of times in the 7 months since purchasing the vehicle: when driving at medium to slow traffic speeds or parking lot speeds (5mph - 20mph), or when sitting stopped, if the climate control fan is on - it blows heavy diesel exhaust fumes into the cabin. these fumes are only coming in through the climate control system. when the windows are open we do not get fumes, there are no heavy fumes around the outside of the vehicle. we only get diesel fumes being blown in via climate control. if we turn off climate control, the fumes stop. they are strong enough at times to cause eyes to tear up. they have happened when we were in empty remote parking lots - so no other vehicles around. they have happened with heat / or cool system on. we do not get noticeable fumes in the cabin when traveling at faster/highway speeds. this has happened many times, however this complaint form only allows picking one date.
