Problems with 2014 RAM 1500 FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

On average, the 2014 RAM 1500 starts to “feel” problems with the FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM and its various aspects after 58 292 miles.

Recently reported FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM problems on 2014 RAM 1500

Fuel sensor has an error and reads empty when fuel level is less than 3/4 of a tank. the reading is correct between 3/4 and full but once the level drops below 3/4 it says fuel sensor fail and then reads empty.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ram 1500. the contact stated that while driving, the fuel tank showed empty, even while the fuel tank was full. the contact stated that the fuel gauge was inoperable. the fuel sensor failed which recorded the fuel level as empty. the dealer was not called. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was approximately 115,500.

Error code p0463: fuel level sensor circuit high input, this means my fuel gauge is experiencing failures and i can not accurately determine how much fuel is in the vehicle. doing a quick google search, this appears to be a very common issue with the 2014 ram 1500 5.7l. i'm at roughly 68500 mile on my truck so the issue is also out of warranty.

My vehicle lost signal from the fuel level sensor in the gas tank. the sensor now only works when the tank is between full and 3/4 full. it is now unsafe to drive as you don't know how far you can travel before running out of fuel. this is a known issue with this type of vehicle. people could become stranded in a desolate area or under adverse weather conditions and not be able to get help.

While driving, fuel sensor fail notice displayed on dash and fuel gauge dropped to empty.33,000 miles on 2014 ram 1500. this is a common problem with faulty fuel sending unit resistance unit. dealer wants $800 to fix.

Had aem flash caused 10-15% mpg loss as well as throttle lag, loss of acceleration fca said there would be no change in performance or mpg

Fuel gage drops to empty and causes check engine light to come on. it happens upon starting the vehicle or when driving.

At about 49,000 miles the "check engine" light came on. after driving for several days the light would turn off on its own while the engine was off. i thought that it may been the gas cap, so i replaced it. then, while driving, the "check engine" light turned on again, intermittently while driving. i had it checked by o' reillys and they said it was the fuel system, po463=2 6391451. when i turned on the engine, the check engine light was not on. after several weeks i noticed that when my gas was less than 3/4 full the check engine light turned on again, while driving. my gas gauge and mile range dropped to zero. when i filled the gas tank the gauge went back to full with the number of mile range. again, when the gas was about 3/4, the gauge dropped off. the check engine light has now remained on constantly.

Was driving down the highway and my dash gauges goes out and throwing a check engine light. the code resulted in a fuel level sensor a circuit high . the fuel sensors is defective at 61000 miles and causing my dash gauses not to work.

Fuel gauge miss reads, common problem in rams. fuel level not known. 15k mile 2014 ram 1500.

Bought truck 4 months ago, has been broke down now as of today 5 times. this truck has lost fuel mileage, power, and has almost cost lives, when you push on the gas, nothing, after a few seconds it will go, this is extremely dangerous, i have been in front of a semi moving wind turbines and almost killed, this truck has been towed several times, in the shop broke down all after recall, this truck will cost lives, i have tried contacting several people, i get nothing, my next move is going to show videos and updated incidents, and information on all steps, last response was my case has been closed, people need to know the action taken on this and the lives affected. the most recent action was a couple weeks ago, i am a pilot escort for ge wind industry, i was needed to stop traffic to keep public safe, when i'm needed to jump into action this truck fails, i need a replacement immediately, i was almost driven right into my driver side door by a 138 thousand pond tower section due to lag time, this truck is powerless, after recall my mileage went from the upper 30's to teens, it's been in shop every month i have owned it, currently waiting on a cooling system, on back order, i have owned this truck for 5 months, i have lost over 1000,000 in revenue, almost killed and killing others, i am losing my business now, i'm in succ a hole nothing will help me unless this truck is replaced immediately, this truck is extremely dangerous, i have nothing left, i need a truck that will simply work, i need to rebuild

Fuel pump sensor failed. replaced the part, bought from the dealership. installed and worked for two days before the sensor again failed. when the fuel tank is filled the gauge does not sense any fuel in the car. also the car's computer system fails to tell you which part is in failure- the brake light indicator went on for the passenger side brake light, it was actually the brake light on the cab that was out.

Fuel sensor failure. gas gauge shows empty all the time. check engine light is on as well as "fuel sensor failure" light. this is very common in these ram trucks. it happened the first time to me while driving. there was a warning bell, then the fuel sensor failure light came on with the engine light, and then gas gauge dropped to dead empty. has remained there since

After the v08 update very bad lag from the pedal and gas mileage dropped very significantly.

The v08 emission recall has despite what the manufacturer claims decreased my mpg, increased turbo lag, made it unsafe to drive due to literally slower than acceptable throttle response, and daily diesel regeneration. all before this flash to the ecu there where no problems. but since it is a ticking time bomb just waiting for for me to get t-boned at an intersection for the delayed acceleration.

Fuel gauge shows empty when the tank is full

Due to the ecodiesel settlement program, i allowed fca to update the ecm to meet their requirements for the settlement. after the update, my truck is dangerously slow from a standing start. i never know if the truck will accelerate as i merge into traffic. sometime it is barely adequate but most of the time there is a 2 to 4 second delay before the turbo kicks in (around 2,000 rpm) and then there is a strong turbo leap because my foot is buried in the floor trying to get the truck to move. i have almost been t-boned or rear-ended several times crossing streets and merging into traffic. this is dangerous and fca told me there isn't anything that can be done because the truck didn't show any error codes.

Ecodiesel-post epa required repairs- turbo lag / delayed acceleration. up to a two second time delay before vehicle will proceed upon full throttle demand to merge into traffic or from a stop sign or needing to pass a vehicle at highway speeds.. the delay will cause an accident to occur. prior to the epa repairs, vehicle did not have any turbo lag/acceleration issues. one could accelerate with full, partial or minimal throttle and have confidence in the vehicle performing as needed. discussed this problem with local ram dealer, they stated there is no current fix being considered by fca. this is a real safety issue with vehicles being involved in accidents as the vehicle thinks about accelerating. please advise if there are any known remedies for this software issue? thank you in advance for your consideration. fortunately no bent sheet metal yet.

Mopar fuel sensor /pump giving incorrect reads to the gauge. causing check engine light and also not able to get an accurrate reading of fuel level

Was advised to take truck in for recall reflash due to eco diesel settlement package. after recall fix was conducted, engine sluggish, shifting not smooth and miles per gallon dropped significantly. all this after a trip of 8 hours at legal speed limits.

Recall for emissions not performed correctly. engine light comes on all the time. warning flashes on dash : "engine will not restart in 200 mi service def see dealer." started at 5000 miles and has plagued the truck every since then. ram was supposed to fix and reimburse under recent recall and extended warranty settlement. i have documented, written, called, emailed, and faxed to the ram manufacturer. i get no response whatsoever. recall done on 7/11/19 and on 10/08/19 i still don't have it fixed. file to thick to up load.

2014 ram ecodiesel. had the emissions update done per the fca class action lawsuit requirements. after the update, my truck has an extremely dangerous turbo/throttle lag. this lag can last anywhere from 2-5 seconds. additionally, the truck was advertised as 29 mpg on the highway. after the update, i am sitting around 17 mpg. i have lodged a complaint with fca and am still waiting to hear back. this is no longer an emissions issue, this is a safety issue and i can guarantee you it will lead to numerous accidents and possibly death. a simple google search will show that this issue is not unique to my ecodiesel. almost every ram and jeep that had the emissions update is dealing with the same safety risks.

Was traveling down i485 in charlotte nc. going to beach. an all of a sudden the truck has no power. i have no pedal it is gone . had to get it off the side of the road an stopped with white smoke coming out the tail pipes . it was the fuel pump. that time . nexted time it was the edge valve an sencer . had no pick up an go . every since the v08 tune this truck has bad lag lag u can not sure when u r pulling out of an interception if u will get out safe . the lag is terrible . i loved this truck untill the tune . but now cant trust it . got ot to pull camper but dont trust it now will not own another ram eco or any thing else .

After having the aem update completed, i lost 5mpg in fuel economy (from 23 mpg combined, to 18 mpg combined), i also am experiencing an incredibly unsafe amount of acceleration lag (4-6 seconds). when pulling into traffic travelling at 40+mph, this lag in acceleration causes me to roll into traffic with no power or ability to accelerate until the engine decides to kick in.this lag in acceleration is the biggest concern as the duration of lag is inconsistent and unpredictable. i do not feel safe in this vehicle and am not confident in it's performance anymore. i, like many other owners would like to get rid of this truck. i think fca should take bake the truck becuase it has become a financial/safety nightmare. as of january 2019, i have spent over $7000 on the exhaust system prior to the aem update coming out (egr cooler clogged, turbo hoses bad, etc.) luckliy, i just had the egr cooler replaced under the new warranty but the drivability (good fuel economy and power) is no longer present. if this truck functioned like this when i first test drove it, i would never have bought it.

While driving through west virginia, pulling my sailboat, i got a "check engine" light; as i was coming up to the beckley service area, i decided to stop, find an auto parts store and get the code read. just as i was entering the service area, i lost power, simultaneously having the dashboard flash a "tps sensor" warning, as i descended into the rest area, i realized that i had also lost my brakes (but not the trailer brakes) and then, while coasting into the parking lot, a wv turnpike pu pulled alongside with the driver gesticulating at me, yelling that i needed to get out of my truck, it was on fire. immediately upon stopping, the front end became engulfed in flames, ultimately burning completely up.

1. had to replace the exhaust sytem because the automatic exhaust stopped working after towing the truck to the dealer to create a forced regen 2. replaced 2 turbos 3. after emission recall was completed, engine was loosing antifreeze and overheated. added antifreeze several times and then the engine started blowing white smoke, engine knocking like a loose crank or rocker arm truck lost complete power. the truck was delivered to ram dealer in riverhead, after spending 1600 dollars for engine diagnosis, which was clear apparent to anyone , the said engine was no good.

My vehicle has tremendous lag when trying to accelerate, but it is not all the time. i never know when pulling out into a road at a left hand turn if i am going to get throttle response or a dead petal. too many times not i have been stuck with tremendous lag and almost rear ended by vehicles while turning onto a road. this was never an issue until a forced "fix" for a recall on the ecodiesel engine. upon initial acceleration sometimes there is a 1-2 second lag before the vehicle even seems to accelerate at all. my mile per gallon has dropped several points and def is being over consumed. i do not know when the truck will accelerate or just lag out on me. i do not know if this is a motor or transmission or none of the above issue. i do know that many people with the "aem fix" for the recalled rams is having the same issues. this vehicle does not seem safe to drive to to its unpredictability with acceleration. from a cold start, the vehicle is extremely sluggish for several minutes or miles, and that is in the warm ca sun.... i am waiting for the vehicle to not work at all. this has been ongoing for several months since having the vehicle "fixed"

Fuel sensor is wrecked at under 50k miles. the fuel gauge will suddenly go to 0 with check engine light on immediately after last gas fill. this is a known issue for rams, faulty product by faulty manufacturing.

Takata recall. i have a 2014 ram 1500 and the fuel sensor went out on it with only 18000 miles. unfortunately it was past the 3 year warranty coverage so it's not covered by the dealership. upon research, i have learned this is a common issue reported by many ram owners. i feel that this is a manufacturer defect and i feel it is a a safety threat since you don't know how much gas is in your vehicle. this could lead the driver to being stranded on the side of the road and unsafe. i would like to see that this gets turned into a recall. i refuse to pay over $1000 to have this repaired just so chrysler can make more money on non-reliable equipment. the vehicle can either be stationary or in motion when the fuel sensor has failed.

Fuel gauge stopped working suddenly and without warning while stopped at a red light. this resulted in the activation of the malfunction indicator lamp and low fuel message. this is a known problem that fca is well aware of with thousands of reported cases online.

Driving on hwy 17 down a ramp, throttle sensor light came on and truck stalled out. restarted truck to pull off hwy/ramp to safer location, noticed thick bl smoke billowing out from under hood. pulled into parking lot, lifted hood to see flames coming off engine. bystander called 911 while i got a bucket of water. threw bucket of water onto engine while police and fire dept finished extinguishing. fire dept stated they have seen a few eco fires. towed to hendrick's, contacted ram. ram stated no need to contact ins co (they will handle it). thought this was strange, contacted ins co anyways. inspected by 2 fire specialists, ins co and ram. ins co stated manufact defect, ram stated leaky injector (which were replaced by ram 18k mi prior at dealership). i sustained smoke inhalation and 1st degree burns to face, neck,lt arm and had/have headaches. truck was still under 100k warranty with only 40k. ram denied opened claim and warranty. ins co totaled truck out, they still have an open claim against ram. additionally ram denying my emissions settlement of 3k only offering 900 (stating emissions work couldn't be done due to fire classifying me as a previous owner although i was current owner even at that time). i still haven't settled emissions. recently ram has recalled all 108k eco-diesels 2014-19 for fire hazard. my truck fits the description for what happens and always needed a little coolant with maint, insp, oil changes. i paid off my truck before, and now have a payment with what i consider a lesser truck. when i call fca and give my info they often hang up, act like they cant hear me, or state they are transferring me to manager (hanging up on me). also stating someone will get back to me, but never any returned call (supposed to get a call tomorrow, will see).

Truck made a loud pinging noise, while driving on a county road, truck appeared to catch fire, cab filled up with black smoke with soot with a burning smell which caused the truck to shut down. threw a code of low pressure fuel and engine light on. had towed to nearest dealership, which could not pull up codes thrown. changed fuel filter. couple months later, while driving on a county road, truck threw code electronic ignition throttle control, could not get any pressure, smoking under hood and from behind. appeared to have caught fire again but truck did not shut down as in 1st situation. had towed to nearest dealership. has been there now for 14 days. having to replace egr cooler and intake manifold along with a lot of seals as i learned they are plastic and melted due to fire twice. why would dodge make any intake especially on an eco diesel plastic? sounds like asking for a fire according to the dealership. also too...these parts being replaced and being covered under my extended warranty are also part of the "eco diesel settlement" settled on may 3rd, 3019 which my truck was towed on may 2, which in this settlement they awarded an extended warranty on the exact parts being replaced. i currently have no pics or documents as truck is still currently at dealership being worked on as i was told they have never seen this before and this is a very complicated task to repair.

Fca aem recall. since getting the emissions recall done the truck no longer responds like it did. it is a life safety issue. the update has mad the truck very sluggish to the point it feels like it is going to stall when trying to start from a stop or merging into traffic on the highway. i have also lost 5-6 mpg since the update and will no long let my wife drive it to do lack of power to even get moving.

This seems to be a common issue with 2014 ram trucks. the fuel sending unit will go out send an eml code and the fuel gauge will drop down to empty even though there is a full tank. dodge wants to charge me $1000 to replace this, since i am outside of the oem warranty. this has happened on a number of occasions to me. it happened to my wife and daughter while they were driving my truck and had to stop and top off the gas tank otherwise the truck could have shut down. it had 3/4 tank of gas in it. this is a safety issue and should become a recall.

The exhaust manifold continues to leak. i believe it has to do with the exhaust manifold bracket bolts that break. ram continues to repair with the same poor quality parts.

The check engine light came on over the last 4 months. during this time the light has gone off and on numerous times. just two weeks ago a fuel sensor failure displayed on the dash. the fuel gauge dropped to empty and the remaining miles until empty shows as low miles. the fuel sensor failure goes off and on depending on the amount of fuel in the tank but the check engine stays on now. i have read numerous reviews on the ram 1500 from 2012 through 2016 having the same issues. most of these people have had to replace the fuel pump with fairly low miles on their vehicles.

I was accelerating my truck on a city street at approximately 45 mph. the power control module, battery control module, crank position sensor, tone wheel and power steer control module all failed at the same time. the truck shut down and had to be towed into the dealer.

Vehicle fuel gage goes from full to empty once the gage reaches half a tank while driving. vehicle is out of warranty with 69,000 miles and display reads fuel system failure engine the service light is on and vechicle eco mode will not operate. i proceeds to file a complaint with fiat chrysler autombiles on february 18 2019 case # 58020421 and was directed by them to take it to an fca certified dealership to diagnose the problem and call fca back with the results. the diagnotics should an active fault in the fuel sending unit and fcas responce back was since the vehicle is out of warranty i would have to pay for all the repairs. my main complaint is this is a reaccuring problem with their fuel sending units with many ram owners and all fca will tell you is take it to your dealership. $476.00 later they replaced the old sending unit with the same oem part number that i believe is a faulty part and they will only warranty this part got 2 years. fca needs to address this issue and if the company feels that it is not a safety issue and will not cover the cost of relacement that needs to be expressed to the customer when filing a complaint with them.

Engine light on, diagnostic reading: cylinder 6 misfire detected. random/multiple misfire detected. number 6 cylinder has a high count of no compression. the engine light stays on stationary and in motion.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ram 1500. after filling the fuel tank and starting the vehicle, the check engine warning indicator illuminated and the fuel indicator read that there was no fuel in the tank. the contact took the vehicle to jt's dodgeland of columbia (located at 190 greystone blvd, columbia, sc 29210, 803-832-1255) who stated that the fuel relay sensor failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle had not been repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to nhtsa. the approximate failure mileage was 56,000.

Fuel leak at inside bend of metal fuel line. factory defect. fuel leak at several injectors whee it meets manifold. glow plug module and glow plugs constantly failing. water pump leak and replaced. air suspension inoperable. vehicle well maintained and only 32,000 miles

Fuel sensor failed at 61k miles. eco mode not available, unknown amount of fuel in tank creates a driving hazard regarding running out of fuel.

I was driving and the warning light came on for 50 miles until empty, it wasn't empty i just fueled up the day before, then the check engine light came on and my gas gauge went to empty....then it read fuel sensor so i topped it off, it took 8 gallons...the fuel sensor light went off but the check engine light stayed on......now the gauges don't work at all.....

Fuel sensors shows low fuel shortly anfter filling up. system failure started around 60,000 miles.

Unable to fill gas tank when pumping gas paid the dealership to diagnose the problem to have them say the part is on back order till dec and that this seems to be a major issue . it is a major inconvenience when trying to get gas for the vehicle cause it takes so long to fill tank and need to pump it so slow or it kicks the pump off.

I have 2 issues to report on this vehicle 1) the truck has left us stranded twice and required a ride on a roll back (who knew a little 1/2 ton pickup is too big for most tow trucks). in both cases we had stopped at a traffic light on a slight incline or decline. then when the light turned we made a right or left turn into a decline or incline and stalled out. the first time it happened i thought it was a clogged fuel filter, but didn't think to try priming the fuel system and restarting before replacing the filter. the next time it happened approximately 1000 miles later i poured 5 gallons of diesel in, primed the fuel system and it restarted. i then filled the tank and realized that there was about 5 gallons left when it stalled. this caused me to believe that the fuel was sloshing around the pump in scenarios as described. we later realized that the fuel gauge does not drop below a 1/4 tank and no low fuel lights appear. the truck was later diagnosed as having a faulting fuel sending unit. 2) the second issue is at 51k miles we had a major def emission system failure. the first event provided 500 miles of warning before the truck would not restart. it cost $2855 to replace a fault def tank/sensor. the second time only 1000 miles later we only had 200 miles warning and cost $716 to replace a nox sensor and module. in both cases we drove the trk to a dealer, but both dealerships refused to cover it under the 96month/80,000 mile "major emission comp warranty." i've have reported both issue to fca via their website. nhtas/odi has my permission to release my name and contact information to fca to discuss specifics of this issue.

In may 2018 fuel sensor fail i had to come out of my pocket to replace. i brought the truck landmark dodge in morrow ga. i only had it for a year, along with the fake warranty that turn out to be no good. i felt like they stole money from me they did not work for. now today i had to come out of my pocket again to pay for a bad tipm with a bad fuel pump relay. i thought that if i get the truck from the dealer, it would be a few years before start having problem with it. i email dodge support about the problem. i have not receive a email from other than they receive my complaint. very poor customer service.

Major fuel system leak due to fuel line failure. this is the second time such a failure has occurred and is a potential fire hazard as the leak resulted in fuel running down back of engine near turbo and catalyst.

The sensor on the def tank in the ram 1500 ecodisels is failing. instead of being able to buy a sensor to replace it ram is making you buy a whole tank to replace the sensor. this has happened to multiple people that i know of and ram still refuses to stand behind their product.

Dpf/def systems causing engine failure. leveling sensor inside of the d.e.f tank isn't reponding and causing truck to run bad and causing truck to go into limp mode. and there should be a recall on the dpf system
