Problems with 2014 RAM 1500 ENGINE

On average, the 2014 RAM 1500 starts to “feel” problems with the ENGINE and its various aspects after 64 858 miles.

Recently reported ENGINE problems on 2014 RAM 1500

After emissions recall vo8 was performed in may, the throttle response is gone. there have been many close calls where the truck won't go when the gas is pressed. it was perfectly normal before recall was done.

Fca is not very helpful and the dealer that i bought this truck from denied service after seeing there was an engine light on. i have it in another dealership to find out what is going on with it and they are saying the intake manifold is melted from the egr being stuck open. i believe the egr valve has to do with emissions and there is a recall on this but yet they want the 5300 to fix it.

Since the last recall, this vehicle has had a major delay when hitting the gas pedal. this has almost caused multiple accidents due to lack of power when hitting the gas pedal.

Vehicle had well know lifter failer inside a 5.7l hemi. the failure caused a cam shaft notch to be placed in the lobby of the shaft. vehicle still has factory warranty but factory oem parts that are know to fail we're put back in. major safety concern due to possible motor failure while driving loosing all power to vehicle and hardning of breaking system.

Ram performed recall update v08 to the emissions system on this vehicle to become complaint with federal emissions. after the update there is a 3 second delay in throttle response. this generally occurs while the truck is stopped and is taking a left or right turn. this is a very serious safety issue that has almost resulted in a couple accidents. recall v08 was not supposed to effect fuel economy, but post recall i lost 6mpg.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ram 1500. while driving 35 mph, the contact heard a loud knocking sound underneath the vehicle. the contact coasted the vehicle to the side of the road, inspected the vehicle, but did not find a failure. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the bolts to the manifold were detached on both sides and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was later taken to 1-10 chrysler dodge jeep ram (located at 79200 verner rd, indio, ca 92203, (760) 345-1000). the dealer informed the contact that the vehicle was not under warranty. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the vin was not included in a recall. no further assistance was offered and the contact was referred to nhtsa. the approximate failure mileage was 119,833. *bf consumer stated i had computer components (recalled) replaced due to the shifter coming out of gear. i feel that caused transmission damage which i had notified 1-10 chrysler dodge about. nothing has been done about the transmission at this time. i had the manifold and the bots replaced.*jb

Driving on hwy 17 down a ramp, throttle sensor light came on and truck stalled out. restarted truck to pull off hwy/ramp to safer location, noticed thick bl smoke billowing out from under hood. pulled into parking lot, lifted hood to see flames coming off engine. bystander called 911 while i got a bucket of water. threw bucket of water onto engine while police and fire dept finished extinguishing. fire dept stated they have seen a few eco fires. towed to hendrick's, contacted ram. ram stated no need to contact ins co (they will handle it). thought this was strange, contacted ins co anyways. inspected by 2 fire specialists, ins co and ram. ins co stated manufact defect, ram stated leaky injector (which were replaced by ram 18k mi prior at dealership). i sustained smoke inhalation and 1st degree burns to face, neck,lt arm and had/have headaches. truck was still under 100k warranty with only 40k. ram denied opened claim and warranty. ins co totaled truck out, they still have an open claim against ram. additionally ram denying my emissions settlement of 3k only offering 900 (stating emissions work couldn't be done due to fire classifying me as a previous owner although i was current owner even at that time). i still haven't settled emissions. recently ram has recalled all 108k eco-diesels 2014-19 for fire hazard. my truck fits the description for what happens and always needed a little coolant with maint, insp, oil changes. i paid off my truck before, and now have a payment with what i consider a lesser truck. when i call fca and give my info they often hang up, act like they cant hear me, or state they are transferring me to manager (hanging up on me). also stating someone will get back to me, but never any returned call (supposed to get a call tomorrow, will see).

On february 23, 2019, i bought a 2014 ram 1500 laramie edition truck with a 3.0 vm motori twin turbo ecodiesel engine. the truck had 78,000 miles on it. i was very pleased with the truck. the factory warranty (5 years/100,000 miles) ran out on april 12, 2019, due to the truck being 5 years old. i followed the manufactures recommendations and used valvoline euro 15w40 diesel motor oil when i changed the oil, which was as soon as the oil sensor indicated that the oil was ready for changing. on may 2, 2019, i was driving on an interstate with the cruise control set at 70 mph. the truck made a brief roaring sound and the engine died. i coasted over to the left shoulder and stopped. a large amount of oil was underneath the truck. the truck now had 83,000 miles on it. the dealership told me that the engine would have to be replaced and the cost would be $13,219.40 plus any additional cost beyond the long block engine. i began researching and found numerous articles that explained that the 3.0 vm motori twin turbo ecodiesel engine has a design flaw that caused the engine to destroy itself. basically the cam gear is not secured to the cam shaft. the timing chain's torque is the only thing that holds the gear to the shaft. once the gear slips and the timing chain jumps, the valves collide with the pistons, starting a chain reaction that destroys the engine. my truck ran perfectly until the engine failure. there was no warning. the articles recount numerous engine failures of this engine with some engines that had less than 20,000 miles on them. the failures happened with engines that were idling and engines running at highway speeds. one article claims to have an internal chrysler document that states that of the 198,000 of these vehicles sold in the u.s. and canada the engine failure rate has been as high as 19 per week.

Fca aem recall. since getting the emissions recall done the truck no longer responds like it did. it is a life safety issue. the update has mad the truck very sluggish to the point it feels like it is going to stall when trying to start from a stop or merging into traffic on the highway. i have also lost 5-6 mpg since the update and will no long let my wife drive it to do lack of power to even get moving.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ram 1500. the contact stated that the vehicle made an abnormal tapping noise, which was a distraction while driving. also, the check engine warning indicator illuminated. the vehicle was driven to jt's dodge lexington (4838 sunset blvd, lexington, sc 29072, (803) 220-3725) to be diagnosed, but the details were not provided. the contact was waiting to find out if the vehicle was still under warranty. the vehicle was repaired at the same dealer multiple times and the all repairs failed. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failures. the failure mileage was 89,657. the vin was invalid.

I was accelerating my truck on a city street at approximately 45 mph. the power control module, battery control module, crank position sensor, tone wheel and power steer control module all failed at the same time. the truck shut down and had to be towed into the dealer.

Oil leak originating from reported failed filter housing adapter (per dealer investigation) on pentastar 3.6l v6 engine. slow leak began to occur immediately after previous dealer-performed oil change in late 2018. 2/4/19 regular-interval dealer-performed oil change found oil all over both sides of engine. technician advised of replacing oil filter housing/oil cooler adapter and associated gaskets for quote of $995. leak observed on personal garage floor, as well as along driveway (while in motion), since prior oil change. multiple internet searches find faults of this equipment across a wide variance of 2014 3.6l pentastar v6 engines installed in various fiat-chrysler america models.

Engine keeps overheating intermittently and dealerships is not able to find the issue looses coolant and smells like coolant while its running and after just getting shut off after driving. i have had truck to dealership 14 times now and nothing is getting done.

Engine light on, diagnostic reading: cylinder 6 misfire detected. random/multiple misfire detected. number 6 cylinder has a high count of no compression. the engine light stays on stationary and in motion.

The hemi engine has a known issue from 2009 5.7 hemi up until present but ram is not recalling the engine. the lifters are seizing causing the engine to fail. this could be dangerous. these are failing before 70k miles and mine is starting to fail as well. its a 4000 dollar fix when they do. dodge ram needs to recall this issue. i purchased my truck for $26000 and have only had it for less than 2 years.

Major oil leak engine cooler. causing oil to leak while driving which is getting on the tires. on wet roads this has caused the rear end of the truck to fishtail at normal drive speeds around curves and take offs.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ram 1500. after filling the fuel tank and starting the vehicle, the check engine warning indicator illuminated and the fuel indicator read that there was no fuel in the tank. the contact took the vehicle to jt's dodgeland of columbia (located at 190 greystone blvd, columbia, sc 29210, 803-832-1255) who stated that the fuel relay sensor failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle had not been repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to nhtsa. the approximate failure mileage was 56,000.

I had a water pump failure, called the dealership and they told me it was under warranty. a flatbed truck came to pick it up. after three weeks in the dealer they called me it was ready for pick up. i went there, inspected the work all was done correctly. when i went to pick up my keys, they told me that dodge does not include the "liquids" and that i had to pay for the coolant used, $29.98 they charged me. i went to talk to the manager and asked him and he said that dodge does not cover for any liquids, if you make an engine repair under warranty, customer pays for the oil and filter, if a repair is done on the axle, customer had to pay for the axle fluid, it is incredible!! gm includes everything. my truck is a 2014, but only has 30k miles on it, first this is not suppose to happen at this low millage, and second if the dealer is going to do the job, after having the truck sitting in their yard for three weeks, the least you could do is include the coolant. don't you think. how does the government allows this? there should be a law protecting the customer from this kind of rip offs. almost thirty dollar for coolant it is outrageous.

Fuel leak at inside bend of metal fuel line. factory defect. fuel leak at several injectors whee it meets manifold. glow plug module and glow plugs constantly failing. water pump leak and replaced. air suspension inoperable. vehicle well maintained and only 32,000 miles

When slowing to a stop, twice the engine has stalled and twice it sounded like it was about to stall but instead came out of gear. when it came out of gear the shift knob still indicated "d" but the light was flashing and the instrument panel said to shift into park and then back into drive

Vehicle stalls and loses all power and electrical, shifting itself into park while driving. this is due to the faulty tipm in chrysler vehicles. this has occurred while driving with my wife and children on the highway and on many other occasions; there is no warning or indication that it is going to happen, it just happens. this is unsafe and could result in multiple fatalities. this has been an ongoing issue since december 2018. i purchased the vehicle in may 2018. after doing research as to what the problem could be i discovered that this is an ongoing issue that chrysler is aware of and to my knowledge have done nothing to resolve this issue. had i known that purchasing this vehicle would endanger my family, i never would have even considered buying it.

While driving on a highway there was a loud thump from the engine. engine lost power and shut down. info screen displayed 'check trailer brake,' 'electronic throttle control,' and 'towing mode''.' was not towing anything at the time. able to pull to side of the road safely. engine will not start now. vehicle towed to dealership. awaiting information from dealer on repair.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ram 1500. the contact stated that the bolt that held the exhaust manifold fractured without warning. the dealer was not contacted. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to nhtsa. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the failure mileage was approximately 126,000.

Most recent episode of truck shutting off while driving was while crossing railroad tracks in rural area pulled up to look both ways to cross then started over tracks truck shut off in middle of track needless to say a train was coming around corner, when train was 200 yrd away luck forced it into neutral. needless to say have had it in the shop multiple time in 2015 and ram stated it wasn't throwing code for it to shut off. they let the death trap back on road. this truck has multiple electrical problems.

Engine keeps stalling randomly coming to a stop or idling during times, wants to turn off while putting in reverse, have had a new battery put in and alternator has checked out good through dodge themselves. issues started happening in november when the temperatures got cold. purchased truck in july 23. had an interlock system put in and had no issues with it until winter.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ram 1500. the contact heard a tapping sound while driving the vehicle. the vehicle was examined by an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the manifold bolts became damaged and sheared off due to the weight of the engine manifold and exhaust pipes. the vehicle was not repaired. the local dealer (james hodge dodge, 5100 se loop 286, paris, tx) and the manufacturer were notified. the vin was not available. the failure mileage was 120,000. *tt vin is invalid.*jb

It has an exhaust leak in the manifold due to faulty bolts. i have researched it and talked to mechanics, and it is a well document problem with dodge/ram vehicles. i have learned that it used to be covered under some warranties, but not all. it is obviously a vehicle defect that dodge/ram should be responsible for fixing.

. my pick-up averaged 24 per gallon between local and expressway driving. expressway driving only (for example, to niagara falls in 2015) averaged 27 miles per gallon. following replacement of spark plugs and oil change and 2 factory recalls my pick-up lost power and could barely do 20 miles per gallon. the engine became very loud. the longer i drove it, the less mileage i got -- the engine also began howling/whistling as i tried to increase speed. in order to maintain speed, i had to constantly press my foot to excelerate, even going down inclines. i had to continuously bring my pick-up back to the dealership in st. charles, illinois because various systems began to fail -- safety breaks, fuel related black box, dashboard panel signals , etc. i expressed concern about the stress on my transmission and engine. eventually, by process of elimimation, service department revisited the 2 recalls -- one of which was the cruise control recall. when i brought it in again, they found 6 leaks located on the top of the engine. anything above 50-55 mph is difficult. i feel that the transmission does not change gears in a timely fashion, and sometimes not at all. the rpm is very high and the engine remains in exceration mode either too long or, at higher speeds, never kicks in

Vehicle loses power randomly and completely shuts down. this has happened in traffic, in the driveway, and while traveling down a highway at 70mph. in thirteen months the vehicle has been driven and towed for repair to various dealerships seven times. the first four times it was taken to a dealership, it was released to me without repair due to the dealership being "unable to reproduce the issue". this vehicle is dangerous and should be removed from commerce.

Check engine light while driving and loss of power. after bringing vehicle to mechanic found out misfire cylinder #3. failed camshaft and lifters at 143,000 miles. told is was a very common issue at no specific mileage. approximately $4,000 to repair

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ram 1500. while driving 70 mph, the engine revved and the entire instrument panel illuminated. also, the vehicle accelerated uncontrollably and then decreased with a knocking noise present. furthermore, when the brake pedal was depressed, the engine continued to rev. the vehicle was serviced at texas dodge (7800 i-40 frontage rd, amarillo, tx 79106, (806) 353-6343) per nhtsa campaign number: 18v332000 (electrical system, vehicle speed control), but the remedy failed to repair the failures. the contact stated that the vehicle was taken back to the same dealer and the software was updated again, but the cause of the failures could not be determined. the manufacturer was made aware of the failures. the failure mileage was 127,000. *dt*jb

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ram 1500. while driving 35 mph, the vehicle decelerated and an abnormal odor was detected. the vehicle stalled, but was able to be restarted. the contact pulled over to the side of the road, opened the hood, and saw flames coming from the back of the engine. the contact extinguished the fire. there were no injuries. a police report was not filed. the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic, but was not diagnosed or repaired. the dealer and manufacturer were not notified. the failure mileage was approximately 70,000.

2014 dodge ram. consumer writes in regards to diesel water pump safety recall. *ld the consumer stated the recall repair required 2 appointments. this consumer felt this was dangerous if the vehicle required the water pump to be replaced. *js

I was driving in the mountains pulling a boat on a fishing trip. coming off the last pass into gunnison colorado, i heard knocking heard a big bang. the truck shut down for loss of oil pressure. couldn't start it, couldn't get it into natural. got it to a diesel shop figured it spun a rod bearing. i did not know that when a viehical comes down from canada, it loses its drivetrain warranty! we are all north american! what exactly is both of these problems?

Engine trouble: top end damage to lifters/camshaft. i replaced the entire engine

Catastrophic engine failure. at highway speed the engine failed without warning. it threw a rod through the engine block resulting instant loss of power. hot oil being blown out of the hole and all over the engine and onto the turbo and exhaust, resulted in a under-hood fire.

In 3 years the check engine light and service electronic throttle indicator have came on at least 14 times. when this happens the truck goes into limp mode and will not accelerate. each time the dealerships who represent ram products have performed different work and said it was fixed. they have flashed the software, changed turbo pressure switch, performed manual regen on exhaust system, changed air filter, changed the turbo twice, changed the fuel filters, tightened hoses and nothing stops the problem from returning. i am reporting this because it is a very dangerous and is happening on thousands of ram 1500 ecodiesel pickups. until now it was just an inconvienance but the last time it happened i was turning onto a highway when it went into limp mode and almost got ran over by a logging truck. had the log truck been loaded with logs i probably would be dead because there is no way he could have avoided a collision if he were loaded. i took the truck straight to a ram dealership and they have had it for over a month trying to figure out the problem. it should be illegal for chrysler to sell $50,000.00 trucks that can't be fixed and are going to get people killed.

Oil leaking from 2014 3.6l v6 engine oil filter housing adapter

Engine making ticking noise at around 22000 miles on the passenger side. asked the dealership what the noise could be in day reply back saying that it's just the hemi engine noise and it's normal. i've came back a few times and mention the noise again to the dealership and that it was getting louder and longer lasting at cold starts they informed me it was still normal hemi noises. i've researched and looked into it and found it to be an exhaust issue on the manifold due to the studs breaking and spoke to the dealership again and they informed me that it was a common defect and they informed me it would be over $1,000 repair and was not covered do to my truck coming from canada and all my warranty was voided i've complained several several times to see what could be done under the federal mandated warranty and they said nothing and the truck currently has 47,000 miles and the noise is getting worse by the day. this issue has been going on since 2010 2011 with the hemi engines and manufacturer won't do anything about repairing or correcting the issues! a recall should be issued on these defective parts! i have called the warranty department, chrysler themselves recall department and no one will do anything to help and pretty much tell me i'm out of luck!

I started getting a ticking in my motor around 60k miles. i took it to tyler's chrysler jeep and ram in niles michigan for two recalls, the ticking sound on the drivers side, and a possible rear main seal leaking. the service writer told me they put dye in the oil and i had to bring it back and recommended i replace the spark plugs for the ticking but did put in my file why he was recommending it. i took my truck to my normal mechanic for the ticking sound again and ne says i have broken exhaust studs. now i am 2 months outside of my warranty and the dealership won't cover it under warranty because the service writer couldn't do his job. in do research on this issue, apparently broken exhaust manifold studs are so common on these trucks that replacing them is considered standard maintanance???

Cannot put it to work it will not haul a trailer, can't drive because it will turn off in bumpy roads, been marking ' shift to desire gear to drive' we have been fighting with people from the agency ( don davis ) and they say they cannot find problems. changed shift cragter twice, no luck! i took it with the enginge like turned on and can't seem to find a 'code' the truck starts shaking up before it turns off completely. it's a matter of safety for myself and my family.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ram 1500. while driving at an unknown speed, smoke and flames appeared from the engine compartment. a police report was not filed and no injuries were sustained. the flames were extinguished and the vehicle was towed to capitol chrysler dodge jeep ram (3201 missouri blvd, jefferson city, mo 65109, (573) 893-5000) where it was diagnosed that the exhaust gas recirculation system failed, and the wiring harness and intake and exhaust manifolds needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was contacted and did not assist. the failure mileage was 74,000.

I have a 2014 ram 1500 slt 4wd cc i bought it about 6 months ago. about a week ago my friend and i were about to take a drive and when i started it my friend whom is a mechanic said you either have an engine knock or an exhaust leek. well i checked it out at the dealer and well the exhaust leak was due to a broken bolt in the manifold and then the dealer calls me and says you have a lifter taping they said the extended warranty would fix it but i have seen a couple of videos and forums and this really needs to be a recall on both im not the only one whom has had this problem i love my truck but if you spend the kind of money that we ram owners have this problem should be covered ive been treated wonderful by the dealer but this is something that needs to be recodnised by chrysler and fixed by chrysler ive only put 20000 miles on it it only has 82000 total this should not be a problem yet if at all i treat my truck like a part of the family it gets serviced regularly my truck should not be having these kind of issues please help do something about these problems someone needs to

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ram 1500. while driving various speeds, the contact smelled fumes inside the vehicle and the engine failed. in addition, the traction control warning indicator illuminated. jacksonville chrysler dodge jeep ram arlington (9600 atlantic blvd, jacksonville, fl 32225, (877) 677-5782) repaired the turbo charger. galeana chrysler dodge jeep ram (14375 s tamiami trail, fort myers, fl 33912, (239) 481-2600) flushed the engine and stated that the wire harness was not connected properly and was to close to the oil pan, which caused the vehicle engine to fail. the failures continued after the repairs. the dealer had not released the contact's vehicle. the manufacturer was notified and did not assist. the failure mileage was 88,000.

Tipm...truck was mobile at night in rain when it died and coasted to the shoulder of the road...dense obnoxious smoke poured from under the hood and into cab where my grandchild were adversely affected by it causing serious breathing problems and coughing. vehicle was towed to dealership where a demand of 1500 bucks up front to even look at this truck.. eventually i had wrecker bring it from dealership home where is sits on ramps in the back yard. nothing has been done by chrysler to address these problems. according to codes from obd-ii suggest the potential of airbags exploding without warning at any time...

My truck has started running rough without any power and noticing a tickingkocking noise within the past week so i started looking into it as i've always changed my oil between 5-10k full synthetic 5w20 and always ran good fuel at least 89-93 bc i have 142k on it. i've noticed the ticking noise around 75 and thought maybe slight exhaust leak from the welds but as i start reading on internet it's been a problem with chrysler on all these hemi engines for quite a few years now and i think it's bs that i'm having to pay to fix something that obviously been a problem for vehicles with well under the mileage i have as well. the wife has a chevy with over 200k that rubs like a top and she never changed the oil before we got together, in fact it was sludge when i did the first oil change and it doesn't tick nock or hesitate one bit. i hope someone will step up and help ppl out with their mistakes and make it right bc i'm out of a vehicle i still owe on and can't even get to work bc guess what i drive for work. bummer i know but not if y'all would fix problems when the arise!!!!

5.7l hemi lift/can failure!!!!! i am a ram owner and have had some trouble with my 2014 ram 1500 at around 135,000 miles my engine started to tap in a rithum and was getting louder by the day. did a little research and found that a lot of folks are having a problem with lifter collapsing and destroying the cam. took my truck to the dealer and was told exactly what i had read about a lot of folks saying they had the same issue with there hemi. not only in the ram models but jeep grand cherokee models and challengers as well equipped with the hemi engine as well. this repair cost roughly 3500.00 or more to have repaired. and chrysler should help cover the cost on repairs. i am very upset with chrysler products and at this time may never own another chrysler product.

Ram started dying in december 2017 while driving at hwy speed. all electric power remained, no check engine light illuminated. on or about 1 january 2018, engine shut down at highway speed and check engine light illuminated. that day, the engine surged 2 times without dying. dealer verified a u1424 trouble code recorded 3 times. dealer had the ram for about 1 week and could not make it duplicate, but indicated they were going to change the crankshaft senor. they did not do the repair. dealer cleared the code and i retrieved it. the ram continued to die, but has not presented a trouble code. i filed a complaint with dodge/ram (case#33123585) to which they recently determined that until the ram cannot move under its own power, there is nothing they can do, despite the serious safety issue. since december, the ram has now died approximately 7 times and surged more times than i remember. the first time i was pulled into the ditch as i tried to get off the highway. 3 times, i've narrowly missed being rear-ended after the ram died twice while navigating through a traffic light and once while turning at an intersection. this morning it again died as i was slowing down to navigate a traffic light. i didn't realize it died until i tried to accelerate. by that time, i barely had enough momentum to pull to the side of the road. the vehicle behind me had to slam on their brakes and swerve to keep from rear-ending me. that individual confronted me in a very hostile manner, but i diffused the situation when i explained what had happened. the attitude of dodge/ram is very concerning as their "policy" outweighs the safety of me, my family and others on the road. there are many complaints about this very issue, but ram states they've never dealt with the issue. i have photos on my cellphone of the instrument panel when the ram dies. i don't have access to the communications with ram

2 mounting bolts have broken off in my manifold. they are broke off inside the manifold.
