How to Replace 2017 Ram 1500 Headlight Bulb

Greetings, petrolheads and DIY aficionados! Today we venture into the realm of luminosity, taking a dive under the hood of a 2017 Ram 1500 to wrestle with the art of headlight bulb replacement. So, don your gloves and grab your tools, as we illuminate the path to brighter journeys!

1. Pop the Hood

Start by popping the hood, seeking the lever under the centre of the dash. Once the hood is open, locate another lever at the centre of the hood and release it.

2. The Initial Wrestle

Venture to the wheel well, for here lies a small cover guarded by a pushpin, the first foe to defeat. Employ a flat tip screwdriver or pliers and unveil the flap, revealing an access panel to our battleground.

3. The Lever of Release

Reach into the access panel and find the little lever, a silent ally. Push it up, hear the snap, and feel the headlight loosen its grip on the metal embrace.

4. Bolt Jousting

Time for a duel with two bolts, a top one and one hidden between the grille and the headlight. Arm thyself with a 10mm socket on a swivel and a long extension, perhaps 12 inches, and unscrew the bolts with valor. Remember, patience is your comrade, a thousand turns and you're probably there!

5. The Grand Removal

Freeing the headlight requires finesse and a bit of prying. Remove the outer side first, as a lip of the headlight sits behind the grille. Wrestle the headlight out and behold, the bulbs are now accessible!

6. The Bulb Replacement

Spot the headlight bulb, turn it about 45 degrees, and pull it straight out. But a word of caution, touching the glass is forbidden! The oil on your fingers is a mortal enemy to the bulb's longevity. In our case, we have a H11 bulb standing proudly, ready for action. Secure the new bulb, place it back and turn it 45 degrees, sealing it with a cap.

7. The Reassembly

Before reassembling, observe the back of the headlight. A little ball, it needs to snap into its rightful place. Guide it behind the grille, feel around until the ball settles, then snap it into place.

8. Bolt Securing

Bolts return to their abodes, tape trickery in hand! Slide the bolts down, align them, and secure them. Snap the white lever back down, closing the access door and ensuring the pushpin returns to its guard duty.

9. Victory!

With bolts tightened and every piece snapped back into place, you have conquered the luminous battlefield! The procedure is the same for the other side, as symmetry is the way of the automotive world.
