We just discovered our 2007 nissan xterra (117,000 miles) is one of the many nissans to have the radiator crack and leak coolant into the transmission and transmission fluid into the cooling system. the car now needs around $6,000 in repairs to fix the transmission, radiator, etc. we bought a warranty from the dealer when we bought the car in 2010. the warranty covers the transmission up to 120,000 miles. we have taken the car to the dealership for the last five years for regular service and was never informed about this design defect. the dealer will not fix the transmission as covered in the warranty. *tr
On 3/28/15, parking my 2007 nissan xterra (126,0000 miles) in tampa, fl. before i had the car in "park", there was a loud noise, the engine started smoking and a lot of purple/green/gray fluid leaked out from the bottom of my car. afraid to move the car, aaa towed it to the nissan dealership in tampa. when the tow truck driver arrived and saw the color of the fluids, he quickly determined that my car had leaked both transmission and radiator fluid. he said he heard that this was a problem with nissan xterras. i was shocked! since purchasing new in december 2006, i have always taken my car to nissan for all service. other than a few oil changes, all service has been performed by nissan dealerships and their certified technicians. just prior to this incident, my car had been shaking. i had been to nissan with this complaint in the past, but after repairs were made it seemed to go away. at no time was a transmission problem mentioned as a possibility. i have lived in different areas in florida and used only nissan dealerships for service and repair, willing to pay more for repairs than an independent repair shops, that nissan dealerships and service would know my vehicle best & be proactive, alerting to any potential future problems, i felt protected. the last major repair was in july 2014, at 113,000 miles at autonation nissan, delray, fl. complaint was severe shaking, and stumbling when accelerating. repairs were over $1,000; a transmission issue was never mentioned, even after further repairs were needed. i was never informed of transmission problems with xterras until saturday at the dealer in tampa, who said he alerts all xterra owners to be proactive with radiator replacement. after the comment i did research online. i was unaware of the class action suit settled with nissan; i was never notified of a problem history with nissan xterra transmissions and radiators. *tr
Transmission control unit fried by defected radiator failure. i am now one of the many 2007 xterra owners taken by the nissan motor corporation who put out a defective product and now refuse to stand behind it. me and the wife were stopping to get a bite to eat, ended up being a final stop. after picking up the food the truck would not crank, gauges worked, horn and lights but still would not crank. had it towed to the house and then contacted the dealership. then it gets worst, the dealership "technician" replied with the exact same description of problem over the phone that i gave to him when i called to have it towed to the dealer. the symptoms are no crank, milky looking radiator fluid and the automatic transmission fuses keeps blowing. now i contacted the nissan motor corporation and got no "joy" when i found out that the were offering a big fat nothing!!!!!! i guess this is what you get for buying a nissan :( *tr
Contamination of the transmission with anti freeze due to leak in cooling system, resulting in transmission failure. *tr
2007 nissan xterra. consumer was told to pay a $2500 copay because his vehicle was over 80,000 miles. consumer doesn't comply because he inquired about vehicle problems before the 80,000 mile mark. *ta the consumer stated while his was driving, she noticed the vehicle began smoking and the check engine light illuminated. the vehicle was taken to the dealer, where a diagnostic test revealer the radiator and transmission needed to be replaced due to coolant and oil mixing. *jp
I bought my 07 xterra 6 months ago from transitowne amherst and the dealership told me nothing was wrong with the vehicle. now 6 months down the road the transmission has gone terminal due to the known problem where coolant leaks into the transmission and causes it to fail. i believe any dealership should have checked to make sure that a vehicle they were selling would not have this issue before they sell it. *tr
Sitting at light in the left lane, waiting for it to turn green and all of a sudden the car started making a loud racing sound. not sure if it was transmission or engine making the noise. i looked at my gauges and saw the temperature gauge was on h. i had to wait for the light to turn green, because i was at an intersection, in the left lane, to get on the highway and there were cars on my right and cars going in the other direction. as soon as i could move, i pulled over to a safe spot, but before i could, the car started overheating and smoke started coming out of the hood. it was towed to my garage and after my mechanic looked at it, he said this is a known issue for nissan xterras 2007, because the radiator is defective. the coolant mixes with the transmission and the car stops running! apparently, nissan knows that the part is defective so they extended warranty to 80,000 mile and anything past that i have to pay. well, i have 90,400 miles and can't believe that nissan can get away with knowing a part is defective and not recalling all trucks affected. they certainly changed the radiator design for the newer vehicles, admitting that it is a problem. they should recall the cars and replace the defective part. it is all over the internet, because the problem is so widespread and nissan will not take ownership of it!!!!!!. please look into this and look on the internet to see how common this issue is for xterras and all the people that got screwed by nissan. thank you. *tr
This is one of the many transmission issues with 2007 xterras where the coolant leaks into the transmission and destroys it. the repair cost is 8500 dollars if the 100000 mile extended warranty has been passed. i contacted nissan and they told me that this is my responsibility despite the hundred of complaints regarding the exact same issue. when driving at any speed, when the xterra changes gears there is a rough vibration that keeps getting worse the longer it goes for. had i not learned about this on my own accord this could have resulted in a very bad accident. *tr
The radiator used in my 2007 nissan xterra is a faulty product which caused a leak of the radiator fluid into the transmission fluid system. when the transmission heats up during longer periods of driving, the radiator fluid also heats up and effectively ruins the internal transmission parts. this has caused several issues in the shifting of the vehicle, and often times in very dangerous situations where acceleration is key to avoiding accidents. *tr
A defect caused a crack in the transmission radiator which leaked fluid into the transmission causing unexpected catastrophic transmission failure. *tr
My transmission is ruined because both the radiator antifreeze and the transmission fluid have mixed. my wife could have had a serious accident. *tr
This week my sons 2007 nissan xterra would not start and we had it towed to a nissan dealership near his college in scranton pa. yesterday we were informed that the transmission and radiator need to be replaced, at a cost of around $5000! this is shocking because my son insists that he noticed nothing amiss with the operation of his truck until it he was unable to start it. after spending 10 minutes on the internet, i learned about the nissan transmission class action lawsuit. we have been religious in terms of scheduled maintenance, and overall care of the vehicle. we were not aware of the cooling/transmissions problems plaguing nissan trucks. in addition, i have had the vehicle serviced at two separate nissan dealerships, one in new york and another now in pa. it is disgraceful that neither nissan dealership mentioned anything! this morning i contacted nissan corporate and was told that since the vehicle is over 100,000, there is nothing they can do for us. i do not have $5000 and do not know what to do with my sons nissan. as others have mentioned in postings, there likely many others with vehicles over the 100,000 marker, now just experiencing the negative effects of the defective manufacturing by nissan. there should be a second class action suit filed against nissan!!! *tr
Radiator and transmission failed while driving on highway, part was settled in class action suite and owner was never made aware of defect and or how it can be fixed until failure on highway with family of four in it on 3/28/2014, the owner is the sole owner of vehicle since 2007, owner never received any information at all from nissan regarding this manufacturer issue until service department at nissan informed owner of issue and also informed owner of $3,000.00 repair charge for the faulty parts. *tr
The radiator leaked fluid into the transmission and cause a complete and total loss of both. a lawsuit was filed and settled by nissan without them taking any responsibility for their faulty design. i guess this won't get noticed until people start dying from nissan's defective design. when that does happen, nissan will just payoff the families so this whole issue just goes away! *tr
Problem with radiator fluid leaking into the transmission, which has now damaged the transmission. since nissan won't do the right thing and we're beyond the 80,000 miles, we're stuck paying for a new radiator and transmission. instead of getting away with doing nothing except for extending the warranty, nissan should have been required to notify all affected people regarding the exact problem and issued a recall and pay for a new radiator. this obviously is still an issue for alot people and probably many, many more in the future, long after the so-called proposed settlement. too the nhtsa! please investigate and require nissan do the right thing! *tr
Radiator cracked causing coolant to mix with transmission fluid. *tr
Internal leakage of engine coolant in to transmission. *tr
Check engine light came on. diagnostic computer shows error "fuel level sensor circuit high voltage." this is apparently a very, very common problem. mechanic says this will eventually, if left un-repaired, destroy my main computer on the car. repair estimate is $700, which includes a complete change-out of the fuel pump assembly. *tr
The car was on the freeway and just all of a sudden started to go slow and sputter like it was in the wrong gear. my son was driving and he was having to cross over on the freeway while the car would not go up to speed. it was very dangerous! all this light purple fluid spilled out on the passenger front side, by the wheel it was purple and creamy..... i had to have the xterra towed. we are still not sure what is wrong just that all the coolant and radiator fluid is drained and it is milky looking on the caps. of both. *tr
Radiator cracked leaking coolant into the transmission. *tr
Our 2007 nissan xterra, purchased brand new, began to overheat. upon checking the fluids i noticed the coolant level was dangerously low. i was certainly puzzled where the fluid had gone because there has never been any visible leaks or any warning lights or any other symptom to draw my attention. i began to look into the situation because i was puzzled and quickly learned of the massive number of nissan owners experiencing the same problem. sadly, i was now one of those victims. yes, the coolant had contaminated the transmission fluid via the faulty transmission cooler. there is a class action lawsuit that i am sure you are aware of but i was unaware of. i do not recall any contact notifying me of a class action lawsuit and the potential damage. i had no reason for worry because my vehicle had not given me any trouble signs and the fluids have always checked normal during normal service checks. like many, i cannot afford to shell out the dollars that this negligence on nissan corporation behalf has caused. i encourage you to please force nissan corporation to issue a recall requiring them to make all the appropriate repairs for these damages. please, do not put a cap on the mileage or set the mileage relatively high if you must. my vehicle has only 89,000 miles and only gave signs of damage less than 500 miles ago. *tr
Sudden loud noises/banging while driving. pulled over, had vehicle towed to mechanic. radiator found to be cracked. radiator fluid leaked into and contaminated transmission causing sudden transmission failure. learned nissan was/is aware of this problem and has not notified anyone of preventative measures to prevent failure of transmission. "extended warranty" resulting from class action lawsuit requires $3000 copy for vehicles with 90,000-100,000 miles. my mechanic says this is a joke because radiators not cracking until at least this time. now i have to pay $3000 i don't have to repair the transmission which i could have saved had i been notified to replace the radiator. i will not ever purchase a nissan again. *tr
Radiator leaked into transmission just after 100,000 miles. so why didn't nissan tell us this was going to happen? *tr
The radiator leaked and the coolant went into the transmission and now has totally screwed up the transmission to the point of having to replace it and the radiator. nissan knows about this problem and will not make a recall on either parts which is completely wrong. *tr
Radiator leak to transmission. *tr
At varying speeds above 45mph the vehicle will shudder as if you were driving on a rumble strip. this can be startling as there is no indication of when or where it will occur. when the radiator failed our mechanic informed us that the transmission was destroyed because of design of the radiator and transmission cooling lines, which allowed coolant to seep into the transmission fluid thus destroying the transmission.. *tr
I took my nissan xterra 2007 into boulder nissan in october 2013. at the time, it had under 100,000 miles. upon examination of the car for lack of heat, they said they flushed it and eventually i would have to replace the radiator. they did not tell me that there was a class action lawsuit against nissan for defective parts leaking coolant into the transmission. i returned to nissan in jan. 2015 for the same problem and was hit with a bill for $5,200 to replace the radiator, transmission, timing chain and thermostat. *tr
Nissan sent a warranty notification letter that the radiator could crack and leak into the transmission. the letter stated the warranty ran out at 80k miles. they would not replace the radiator and transmission until there was an actual problem. i didn't start having problems until about 96k miles. when i brought it in to the dealer, i was told it would cost me $3000 my part to fix it and they would cover the rest. i have not been able to afford to make the repair at this time. nissan knew the part was bad and still did nothing to correct the problem. *tr
My 2007 nissan xterra started having both transmission and cooling system issues back in september 2014. after a few trips to our mechanic it was discovered that the vehicle had a cracked radiator and was allowing both coolant into the transmission and transmission fluid into the cooling the system. apparently this is a well known issue and there was a class action lawsuit against nissan, however the terms of the settlement only cover vehicles under 100k miles. by the time we found out the vehicle had just passed 100k (106k) and now nissan refused to cover it! i'm now looking at a $5k - $6k repair bill and nissan refused to budge. *tr
I have had the same problem described in your current investigation of these models. an atf line embedded in the radiator cracked, and atf fluid was allowed into the coolant, and coolant was forced into the atf. the card started slipping in gear, then it started shuddering under acceleration, then it started refusing to go into gear. i got it to a transmission shop, and when they opened it up, the guts of the transmission were rusted, and the clutches had de-laminated. the cooling system was nearly plugged up with oily transmission residue. the transmission had to be completely rebuilt, and the radiator and all associated hoses had to be replaced. all in all, a $5500 fix for a problem that shouldn't have happened. *tr
I was driving my car and it shifted into 4 wheel drive at a red light with no prompting. the car then was immediately pulled over and turned off. the car would not start following it being turned off. it was then towed to a mechanic shop where they discovered that the radiator had leaked fluid into the transmission, causing the coolant to mix with the transmission fluid and completely disabling the car. *tt
In january of 2013, my car was towed to the kraft nissan in tallahassee, florida and there i learn that my computer/brain that makes my car function needed to be replace. however, i was told that my car could be at the dealership approximately 6 months or longer because the part is on back order. the part could not be found anywhere in the state of florida or in the united states. i was told by the dealership service dept that the part needed to be reproduce. i inquired if this part was a deflect issue or a national campaign for deflected car parts, and was told no. i paid approximately 1800 dollars for the repair bill. while my car was in the shop, i received a letter that explained the coolant fluid in the radiator can become contaminated with the transmission fluid and cause the transmission failure. i was having a issue with my transmission; however, after the car was repaired i requested that someone from the service dept test drive the car and indeed they drive it and stated they heard nothing. later, i requested it be driven by a mechanic; therefore we went for a drive and indeed i was told it was transmission problem, but it will cost me 7500 dollars for a new transmission because they are not honoring any letter i received according to the owners of kraft after showing the letter as proof. as of today, i was told the computer /brain was a defected part and nissan should have replaced the deflected part along with the transmission; today my car is at nissan for an oil change and still to this date i am being told that they are not aware of any national campaign for the transmission issues i am having even though they have confirmed today that the fluids are contaminated. service rep quote me a extended warrant i can purchase for 3000 dollars since my car now have 103000 miles prior to it had approx 95000. i need help with this issue. *tr
Own 2007 nissan xterra maintain care with all proper services since purchased new. suddenly driving and check engine light comes on park car and wait for morning to take to dealership, try to start next morning wont start. have car towed to cerritos nissan and have them inspect it,they call me back a few hours later telling me that my radiator hose have leaked coolant into my transmission and destroyed my tranny. i asked why this could have happened and they explained that this is a manufacture defect from nissan and explained to me since i was over 100k miles that it is not covered. price for new transmission and radiator 5000 dollars. ridiculous for me to pay for a defect from nissan that is going to eventually happen to any owner of xterra, pathfinder and frontier owners from 05 to 11. i do not think us as loyal nissan owners should have to pay for a defect from nissan that is bound to happen nissan should have atotal recall on all those models affected by the shotty radiator that they manufactured. i have purchased 4 nissans through the past 12 yrs and i will never purchase another nissan after this incident. i had to pay 5000 to fix a defect from nissan. *tr
Engine and engine cooling problem on the 2007 nissan xterra. *tr
Was on the highway going down hill mind i ass when my 2007 nissan xterra began to down shift my its self. i can just imagine if i would have total tranny failure and caused an accident. after doing some search and asking around i was told that it may be my transmission. i then took it to a local transmission shop where they told me that my radiator would have to be replaced and there was coolant leaking into my transmission that is creating water damage. it's not the consumer's problem that they installed faulty components in their cars and trucks. there should be a recall for this item. now i'm forced to pay for a radiator and for the tranny to be rebuild plus rental car price. *tr
Transmission failure due to engine coolant from leaking coiling system. *tr
I am very disappointed and disgusted with the way nissan has handled this problem. my xterra 2007's transmission did not go bad until it reached over 120k miles. my wife was driving cross country with my children and all of the sudden she felt the gears slipping while driving in a major interstate. luckily she was able to drive home safe. i found out shortly after this almost catastrophic experience that there were many complaints regarding nissans transmission problems. i guess there was a class action lawsuit that only covered vehicles under 100k miles. why is nissan only providing assistance to vehicles under 100k miles if there is a there is a defect in the transmission coolant. they should cover any transmission problems regardless of what the mileage is. i took my xterra to aamco because they charge be thousands of dollars less of what a nissan dealership would have charged me. i have been a loyal nissan owner since 2003 and will never buy a vehicle from them again. in fact, i have convinced friends and families not to buy nissan vehicles because of the poor service that they have provided. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2007 nissan xterra. the contact stated that while driving 68 mph the vehicle stalled. the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic for diagnosis. the contact was informed that radiator fluid had leaked into the transmission and both the transmission and the radiator would need to be replaced. the manufacturer was notified but stated that due to the mileage of the vehicle, they would not assist in the repair. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure and current mileage was 113,000. ..updated 04/18/13 *bf
The radiator fluid and transmission fluid have some how mixed together cause damage to both my radiator and transmission. i purchase my xterra brand new in 2007 and kept up with the maintenance. i have read several articles and even received a letter about a class action lawsuit. but at the time no symptoms were showing on my vehicle. so upset that this is not a recall!!! i am a single mom and this was my only means of transportation. now it just sits in my yard. frustrating!!! *tr
Driving my vehicle, the transmission started to drag, i then called the dealer and brought it right in and found that the radiator was leaking into the transmission and it was going to cost 6,600 dollars to repair. i complained that it was too much money. the dealer brought it down to 2,500 dollars to fix. then i find out if it had happened before 80,000 miles it would have been covered. this is not right as nissan knew this was an issue with these vehicles because of a poor design on there part. as a consumer i feel i was taken. what would have happened if my vehicle stopped working in the middle of a highway or a deserted road. please have nissan own up to the product they are selling. *tr
While accelerating, merging onto a major highway, and without warning the vehicle lost power lunged forward and started making a loud grinding noise. i was nearly hit from behind by a vehicle having the right-of-way before i could get to the shoulder of the road. the vehicle was towed to and was diagnosed by a mechanic as having "cross contamination of transmission fluid and antifreeze due to transmission intercooler failure". this incident has been reported to and dismissed by nissan as not being a frequent problem for them. *tr
My 2007 nissan xterra began to experience a rumble strip like affect apparently due to a defect in the radiator having a leak into the transmission and causing a transmission to begin to fail. this seems to be a common problem and should be a recall on nissans part i was forced to pay 3000 dollars for a co-pay to fix this problem and it seems this should be a recall as it is a known defect. *tr
Coolant mixes with transmission fluid and causes car to shudder and fail. this causes a situation in traffic that could cause a crash. *tr
I took my nissan to the dealership for inspection for radiator/transmission defect. the dealership indicated no way of knowing if my vehicle is one of the ones where this part will fail. is this true? *tr
Strong vibration and noise from the transmission and the transmission slips for time periods up to 10 seconds. happens repeatedly. upon later examination by the dealership, they say that radiator leaks coolant into the transmission causing it to be destroyed and requiring replacement. *tr
