Fuel sending unit ceased to function. dealership said the vehicle was not on the recall list. full tank registers after 50 or so miles and then drops to empty around 120 miles. we are forced to fill the tank full, reset the odometer and never go past 325 miles. twice i have been travelling at freeway speeds when the car steering locks up and vehicle loses power. both times i have been lucky to be able to limp off to the side of the road without incident. both times occurred late at night and alone. one location i was forced to walk along the road until my phone registered a signal. i believe this occurred around 70,000 miles. to date, we have not fixed the problem and if we lived in an emissions controlled city, we probably would not be driving it right now as it has thrown a code and activated the check engine light. i'm curious to know who qualified to have this repaired. based on what i have read, not many and certainly not those who too have experienced the problem. i loved my xterra but due to the lack of care and issues ignored by nissan, i steer people away from buying one.

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 nissan xterra. the contact stated that the fuel gauge indicated that the fuel tank was one quarter full when there was no fuel in the fuel tank. the contact also stated that after refueling to capacity, the fuel gauge indicated that the fuel tank was empty after sixteen miles of travel. the contact turned the engine on and off and the fuel gauge displayed an accurate fuel reading. the vehicle was diagnosed by the dealer, who recommended replacing the fuel sending unit. the manufacturer was notified. the vehicle was not repaired. in addition, the contact was informed that the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign number 10v075000 (fuel system, gasoline) although he believed he was experiencing the sane defect as listed in the recall campaign. the failure mileage was 53,000.

I am getting service engine soon light diagnostic error is p0463, this seems to be a common problem. please accept this complain and have this fixed as a recall. *tr

The fuel gauge displays the fuel level incorrectly due to the fuel gauge sending unit sensor being faulty. this problem causes the "check engine" light to come on. since the fuel gauge reads incorrectly, it is very difficult to know how much fuel is in the tank. this should be a recall issue since this has happened on numerous years of nissan vehicles. i spoke with a mechanic and was informed they would have to completely uninstall the fuel module to repair the issue and would cost $900. when i call the nissan dealership (continental nissan anchorage) they say they there isn't a recall for this issue. *tr

The 2006 nissan xterra ran out of gasoline due to faulty fuel gauge. the gauge has been having problems for several months and finally has completely failed, making it impossible to see how much fuel is still in the fuel tank. this has caused me to run out of gas four times. i try my best to gauge the level of fuel by using calculations based on how much fuel is put into the tank at the gasoline pump, but that method has proven to be questionable at best. *tr

Received message p0463 on my car. this is for a faulty fuel level sensor. research shows this is a faulty factory equipment piece on this model/car and therefore, i believe it should be considered a recall. cost is close to $600.00 at the nissan dealership. *tr

Anytime i put gas in my car , the fuel gauge indicator does not work properly. i can drive with a full tank of gas and the indicator says it on empty. and then it will gradually start going up, but it takes days for it to work properly. also, if it working properly, i can stop a red light, and if the car stays standing in one place not moving the indicator also drops to e.

Tl*the contact owns a 2006 nissan xterra. the contact stated that the service engine warning lamp illuminated. also, the contact mentioned that the fuel gauge was not reading properly and was providing an incorrect which caused the vehicle to run out of fuel with no warning. the contact was not included in nhtsa campaign id number: 10v517000 (engine and engine cooling). the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for further inspection, diagnosis and repair. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 70,000.

I took my xterra in for a fuel gauge problem and was told it was computer code po463 which is a fuel sensor problem. i was then told that the repair would cost around 600.00 this is outrageous! i have been on the internet where numerous people have complained about the same problem.please force nissan to make this a factory recall. 600.00 is the cost of a mortgage payment and the truck will not pass inspection without this fix!!!! *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 nissan xterra. the contact was driving approximately 30 mph and noticed that the fuel gauge displayed an inaccurate reading. in addition, the check engine warning indicator illuminated continuously until the engine was turned off. the vehicle was taken to an independent auto mechanic where the contact was informed that the fuel sender float arm would need to be replaced. the contact referenced nhtsa campaign id number:10v075000 (fuel system, gasoline:storage:auxillary tank) however, was advised by the manufacturer that the vin was not included in the recall campaign. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 55,000.

When the fuel gauge gets close to 1/4 tank it will drop down to empty and the check engine light comes on. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 nissan xterra. the contact stated that the fuel gauge displayed that the vehicle had approximately one quarter tank after refueling the tank to capacity. the contact also stated that the check engine and low fuel warning lights were illuminated. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and advised the contact that the vehicle was not included under nhtsa campaign id number: 10v075000 (fuel system, gasoline:storage:auxiliary tank). the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure and current mileage was 40,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 nissan xterra. the contact stated that the fuel gauge showed that the fuel tank was a quarter full after the vehicle was fully refueled. the vehicle was taken to the dealer. the technician diagnosed that the fuel sending unit was defective and needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure but did not offer any assistance since the vehicle was not included on any recalls. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 91,000 and the current mileage was 94,556.

I filled up the gas tank and noticed that the gauge failed to rise to reflect the amount of fuel i added. a day later the check engine light came on, registering code p0463. since this incident, the check engine light has been on and the fuel gauge has been reading various levels of fuel, with no way to determine if it is accurate or not. *tr

While driving the car low fuel light was on and the gauge got close to empty as expected while heading to a gas station. shortly after, the gauge oddly changed to show 1/4 tank of gas incorrectly. added gas at the station and confirmed the inaccurate gauge reading. started the car and received a check engine light with code p0463. fuel level sending unit appears to have failed. i had this confirmed at my local nissan dealer. this failure can cause the car to stall and increase the risk of a crash since it can cause the tank to go empty while the gauge shows it has gas. the issue is very similar to the nissan fuel sending unit recall (id # 10v075000) and may include the same defective part but oddly my issue is not covered in the existing recall. nissan extended the warranty on this defective part and released a technical service bulletin for my vin, acknowledging the part had a high failure rate, but it has not been recalled. unfortunately my issue is outside of the warranty extension and i am having difficulties getting it addressed by nissan. the nissan customer support specialist i dealt with admitted that in their opinion this issue should have been covered under a recall. it seems to me and many other customers i have spoke with that nissan is extending warranties to reduce complaints in hopes of avoiding a mass recall on all generation 2 xterra, pathfinders, and titans. this is a recurring safety problem for many nissan customers that is being neglected by the manufacturer. please expand the recall on fuel sending units to include all affected years and models. *tr

Check engine light came on and stayed on. had diagnostics and found catalytic converter not to be working properly. replaced catalytic converter on 29 nov 2012. again on may 2013 check engine light came back on and again it was the catalytic converter. had to have it replaced again. total cost of both replacements was in excess of $1900.00. contacted nissan and they would not stand behind their product, said that warranty had expired. had converter replaced at nissan dealer the first time. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 nissan xterra. the contact stated that while traveling 20 mph, the service engine warning light illuminated. the vehicle was taken to a private mechanic where it was confirmed that the fuel sending unit failed. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was contacted and informed the contact that the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign id number 10v075000 (fuel system, gasoline:storage:auxiliary tank). the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 92,000 and the current mileage was 93,600.

Upon start-up check engine light came on, had computer read and code p0463 came up indicating a fuel level sensor a circuit hi input malfunction. *tr

Gas gauge is behaving erratically. it will show full after filling up, then drop as expected from driving. when the gauge reaches approx. the half tank stickmark, it will freeze there for several miles, then drop to e and the empty warning light comes on, though i would estimate the tank to be about half full. i stop to fill up again but can only get 7 or so gallons in. *tr

My fuel gauge shows the wrong fuel level and the engine light comes on indicating a fault with the fuel sending unit. i thought my vehicle would be part of the recall id # 10v075000 - fuel system, gasoline:storage:auxiliary tank. i called nissan and gave them my vin. they informed me that my vehicle is not part of the recall. i have the exact problem addressed in the recall. same make, model and year. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 nissan xterra. the contact stated that the check engine warning light illuminated on the instrument panel. the contact also noticed that the fuel gauge was not providing the correct fuel reading. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostics. the technician stated the fuel sensor sending unit would have to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 85,000.

My gas gauge no longer works and hasn't worked properly for a long time. i will fill up with gas and the gauge drops to empty, the fuel light comes on. my check engine light is on all the time. at times, the gauge will work, but i don't trust it. at the time, the dealership said that it wasn't covered under warranty and i had an extended warranty. *tr

I am experiencing check engine light and error code p0463 (fuel level sensor malfunction) on 2006 nissan xterra. *tt

Vehicle gas gauge does not work. faulty fuel tank sending unit. ran out of gas in traffic.

I purchased vehicle in mid 2009. gas gauge failure causes abrupt stops without notice in heavy traffic areas causing hazardous situation and potential direct harm to driver and passengers. nissan has been aware of faulty fuel sending unit prior to purchase of vehicle. as a buyer, i was not informed of problem with vehicle when car purchased at use car dealership (k & j auto sales ) located in hayward, california. nissan factory recall and technical service bulletins for code p0463 and p0448 were issued for vehicle prior to purchase. this is an inherent problem in car design with previous xterra models as it has been documented in publications.. *tr

The fuel gauge displays the fuel level incorrectly due to the fuel gauge sending unit being faulty. this problem causes the "check engine" light to come on. since the fuel gauge reads incorrectly, it is very difficult to know how much fuel is in the tank. this should be a recall issue since this has happened on numerous years of nissan vehicles. *tr

Fuel gauge reads until 3/4 tank fuel then drops to "o" i have to estimate the mileage for fuel presently i get 378 for a full tank. *tr

I noticed last summer that when i gassed my nissan xterra up that the gas gauge would not show it being full and after visiting my local nissan dealership it was diagnosed that it was a faulty fuel sensor error code p0463 and since i had over 75,000 miles on my xterra at the time nissan would not pay to repair it and that i had the option to pay for the repair myself which is well over 300 hundred dollars . i was also told by the dealership this was a known defect for 2005 and 2006 xterra pathfinders etc. i have since found out that there was a nhtsa campaign recall on this id # 10v075000. i have since looked this up and found that this only covered xterras with certain vins and i'm not sure if my xterra is one of these vins. i also found it only covered it up to 75,000 miles which of course doesn't help me since the fuel sensor broke after 75,000 miles. this has been a very annoying problem for me for the last year and although i haven't run out of gas yet i've been close and i'm sure its only a matter of time before it will and then it will a safety issue for me.i recently contacted nissan and talked to one of their representatives [xxx] at 1-800-343-6913 ext [xxx] and was told because i have over 105,000 miles on my xterra now that nissan would not pay to have it fixed and it was my problem.i feel that this a very known defect that nissan knows about and has only halfway tried to resolve ie only covers xterras with certain vins and up to 75,000 miles which shouldn't matter.it still is a defective part that i don't consider a wear and tear part and mileage vins shouldn't matter. i think nissan should pay to have the fuel sensor fixed and mileage vins shouldn't matter they need to stand behind their products and correct their mistakes as this is a potential safety issue.i would appreciate any help in getting this issue resolved thank you information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 nissan xterra. the contact stated that the fuel gauge failed to properly display the correct fuel level. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was confirmed that the fuel sensor had failed. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was contacted about the issue and informed the contact that the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign id number 10v075000 (fuel system, gasoline: storage: auxiliary tank). the failure mileage was 80,000 and the current mileage was 94,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 nissan xterra. while driving at various speeds, the tpms light illuminated constantly and the wheels felt loose. the contact mentioned that the fuel gauge malfunctioned and failed to display the correct fuel level. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where the light was reset, but the failure recurred. the vehicle was repaired according to nhtsa campaign number: 10v075000 (fuel system); however, the failure recurred. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 91,000.

Vehicle fuel gauge does not function properly. when tested with a diagnostic reader the code p0463 came up indicating a fuel level sensor malfunction. that meant at least a $600 repair from the nissan dealer for what apparently is a common malfunction due to a defective fuel pump module assembly. from what i have read concerning this subject it is a common occurrence for this make and model of nissan, yet the company dismisses any complaint as invalid. there was a recall for previous generations of pathfinder vehicles for the exact same problem. *tr

Fuel pump sending unit as reported by the manufacturer back in 2010

-fuel system has a problem registering the amount of fuel in the tank, the problem is associated with a faulty fuel level sending unit that nissan refuses to recall. -whining noise coming from inside the engine, noise comes from a faulty timing chain

The gas gauge has been an issue not reading properly and in fact the gauge may also show the steady amber light indicating there is no gas in the tank, when it is a full tank of gas. the steering column was found metal shavings from the nissan dealer. i had complained about the shaft having trouble. i was informed that it was a plastic pin that broke and there will be no effect on the steering. so i had brought it back after 4 years of dealing with loose steering wheel. invoice 284857 from the valley hi nissan tag [xxx] was repaired 03 april 2015. i feel this should have been a recall since i found there are many complaints from midas mechanic. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
