Recently reported POWER TRAIN problems on 2012 Nissan Versa

I was driving on the freeway with my two kids on the far right lane when my car suddenly would not switch gears. in the past my car would jerk and i would push on the gas and it would not go anywhere.i looked this problem up on line and alot of people seem to have the same problem. i called nissan than they will not do anything about it they have told me the recall on the 2012 versa is closed. this was a very scary situation to be in. i do not feel safe in this car.

When sitting in heavy traffic at stop lights, my car would automatically turn off causing the need to restart the vehicle, to which point sometimes it would turn on and sometimes it wouldn't. there were also times the vehicle would stall or pull back while slowing down and speeding up in traffic. i visited midas to have the vehicle repaired and after diagnosis, they attempted to save the transmission by replacing the fluid. this attempt was not successful and they determined the transmission would need to be replaced. this is a fairly new car and should not have this issue. there is a transmission recall for a slightly different model of the nissan versa 2012, but not the nissan versa sl 2012. this should also be on the recall list.

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 nissan versa. while the vehicle was at a stop, it shook and hesitated without warning. the dealer was not contacted. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to nhtsa. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the failure mileage was approximately 28,000.

The cvt transmission slips and gives uneven acceleration under all circumstances. this is extremely dangerous when merging into traffic or turning into oncoming traffic. this is a known issue to nissan na & many lawsuits have been filed over the years. the first transmission was replaced at 20,000 miles & another was just replaced at 85,000 miles. nissan knows that they are providing an inferior product, based on the # of lawsuits it has faced over the years concerning the cvt. not only is the product unreliable, it is also dangerous to the driver, the vehicle's occupants and anyone else who may affected by an accident caused by cvt failure.

I have a 2012 nissan versa and at 51,000 miles the transmission failed and will be upwards of $4,500 to repair. i went and got two options and both places said failed transmission and i went and saw pieces of it in the pan. i've had the car for a year and a half and bought it used.

I was driving down the highway and suddenly the car stopped accelerating. was able to pull over before it completely stopped. rpm kept spiking when the pedal was pressed and the engine had a revving sound, but no movement with the car. it could go in reverse, but not forward.

While accelerating the vehicle jerks as if it cannot find a gear, the rpms jump around and the acceleration is slowed dramatically. this happens whenever i accelerate but gets very bad when accelerating from a stop an or attempting to speed up to pass other vehicles.

All the warning lights came on, want go off. even when you lock and unlock the car the lights don't blink off and on. went to a nissan dealer, had a diagnostic ran on it, told faulty transmission . it has 106,00 miles... is there a warranty or recall on this... nissan dealer in decatur, al . lynn layton nissan , cadillac dealer.

The check engine light came on & the car slowed down on the interstate. i was driving from birmingham, al to acworth, ga. i was able to drive home without incident. but i had to replace the transmission on a 2012 nissan versa purchased new 8/6/2012. the check engine light came on & the car slowed down. the total cost of transmission $3,534.93. the versa had 70,619 miles. i had the transmission serviced on 2/23/18 at a total cost of $572.93 at 63,067 miles. no problems were noted at the time of service. because of the issues i experienced with the versa, due to no fault of my own, i feel i should be compensated for the cost of the repairs.

Transmission problem in the 2012 nissan versa my transmission just went out i have heard of numerous transmission of the 2012 nissan going out on other people re-programming does not work the transmission is bad programming only seems to make it worse i have changed at all and had it re-program and the transmission only gets worse i was driving and the transmission with clock and that was it

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 nissan versa. while driving approximately 60 mph, the check engine indicator illuminated. the vehicle was taken to leckner nissan (540-628-2500, located at 1 coachman cir, stafford, va 22554) where it was diagnosed that the transmission needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and promised to call the contact back the next day. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was approximately 106,000.

Transmission failing without other mechanical cause. unable to accelerate quickly without bucking and loud whining. merging on to the highway very difficult- it takes long periods of time to build up speed. only responds to very slow acceleration. worse in cold weather- unable to go up a hill, rolled backward in drive with no response from gas pedal at all. issue happening since first purchased in 2017. frequently reported online by other drivers.

Front coil springs are cracked, transmission cvt slips and i have to depress accelerator to be able to change gears.

While in heavy traffic at a red light, when it turned green went to press the accelerator and my 2012 nissan versa with 37000 miles did not go forward. thank god i was not on a hill so my car went slowly forward. had to get the car towed to the nissan dealership where i purchased my car. a day later i get a call saying that my transmission is done and needs to be replaced. replaced under 37k miles! prior to this when i went to get an engine diagnosis i was informed that there were several recalls and updates that needed to be performed on my car. so being worried that something might be wrong with my car i asked the mechanic to thouroughly check my vehicle. with a bill of 2500.00 paid in april 2018 three months later my muffler breaks apart 400.00 repair and a month and a half after that in sept my transmission is completely shot and needs to be replaced. while doing research i noticed that a lot of people are experiencing this transmission problem after that mandatory update.

The problem is with the shifter. the shifter moves from park to any other position without the use of the break pedal. also, the shifter slides easily from drive to neutral while driving. finally, the cable broke and the car was stuck in park. this car has 57,000 miles. the mechanic said it needs a new shifter assembly. there is a recall for some nissan versas for this problem. why not this one?

Car will not go in reverse nor park and is in drive when i stopped. it will nor start it is in my drive way. it was slipping out of gear while travelling forward.

My caa is a nissan versa 2012 with a cvt transmission,i was waiting at the light to make my left turn and when i tried to accelrate the car would not move it acted like it was on neutral transmission would not budge still i can backup but cant drive forward.

Sluggish acceleration, high rev while gas oedal is pressed w no acceleration on highway & city streets . jerking into gear while advancing from a dead stop . nissan says the cvt needs replaced & it only has 45k miles on it .

Just had vehicle checked today at cottman transmission. after they road tested and ran their analysis on the transmission, i was informed that my vehicle has nissans 'cvt' transmission and there is no fix for it other than a $4000 replacement. the transmission hesitates and will not switch gears properly. took vehicle to the dealership on a couple of different occasions prior to taking it to cottmans and was told that there was no problem.there's a recall on the transmissions for the 2011 & 2012 nissan versa for the same issues i'm experiencing with the same transmission but does not include my vehicle according to my vin number.

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 nissan versa. while driving 25 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. after the vehicle was restarted, it would jerk for approximately 30 minutes while driving and then return to normal. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed with transmission failure. the vehicle was then taken to a local dealer (jeff wyler fairfield cadillac kia nissan, 5815 dixie hwy, fairfield, oh 45014, (513) 682-2500) where the contact was informed that the vehicle needed to be diagnosed. the contact declined to pay the fee for diagnostic testing; therefore, the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified and opened case number: 30914316. the manufacturer informed the contact that the vehicle needed to be diagnosed, but no further assistance was provided. the failure mileage was 40,000.

As i accelerate, the rpms keep jumping and the car jumps forward.

While family traveling, car began to skip and vibrate and slow down. then could not press gas pedal and maintain speed to get off road in a excessable area which almost caused accident by others not realizing there was a problem and it did happen quickly so others had little time to respond. this happened on a two lane highway in busy section. after towing back to town, it was found to be a failed cvt transmission which has been a known problem by nissan for many years and they even extended the warranty on models up to 2010 but since mine is 2012, it was not included in this extension?

My auto is disabled. key doesn't turn, the wheels are locked up and noticed that there is hesitation when shifting made a nose. i can't drive my auto at all. i am still responsible for the payments on the vehicle. it doesn't seem like a regular wear and tear issue.

Started to drive in stop and go traffic and the car bucked and then had no power and then had power. stopped again in traffic and it happened again. seemed to fix itself. hasn't happened since. also sometimes the powertrain shudders when first starting off. doesn't happen all the time, just sometimes.

Vct transmission failure, transmission will fail with no warning, this is a deadly flaw in the design of the transmission, hundreds complaints online attest to the number of transmission failures in dangerous situations. my transmission failed at a busy intersection on a major 4 lane road we were almost hit broadside at a high rate of speed the other driver swerved to miss us and i had to push the car out of traffic. this is a potential deadly condition. i was stopped at a stop sign waiting on traffic when traffic cleared i hit the accelerator the car hesitated and surged onto the highway and stopped in the traffic lane with 65/70 mph traffic coming at us. the first car swerved to the ditch side and missed us the rest of the traffic saw what happened and stopped and went around. this is a very common problem with the transmissions in nissan vehicles especially with the vct transmission. this is a very dangerous even deadly problem that has plagued nissan for several years, they have recalled several makes of nissan for transmission problems but refuse to address the safety issue and refuse to correct the faulty transmission problem, this problem is potentially as bad as the pinto fires, how many people have died in a cvt nissan that we do not know about my wife and i were just yards from death because of this transmission failure. this needs to be investigated and nissan needs to be remedy the situation.

While driving on the freeway going apprx 70mph my car suddenly lost power and starting fluttering. i had to try to pull off to the shoulder without getting hit!! i couldn't go faster than 20 mph. i took my car to the shop and was told i needed a new transmission. the code they read was po846. my car only has 105k miles!!! i have read many other complaints about this same issue from many people. i also read the manufacturer extended the warranty but only until 2010!!! why???? these cars are hazardous to be on the road and there needs to be a lawsuit filed!! this happened right after i was told to replace the catalytic converter, which was done on 8/25/17

When i have more than 1 passenger in the vehicle the vehicle hesitates; the engine revs but the car does not move. the car hesitates as it starts moving and i was almost hit by oncoming traffic because the vehicle didn't pick up while making a turn. i took it to the shop right away, and they replaced the transmission. this cost more than $3,000 and a 5 year vehicle should not have the transmission go bad, and it could have killed us if the vehicles didn't avoid hitting us on the road when it stalled.

While driving car stalls . rpm go way up and down but doesn't move. very dangerous on a highway. this problem was suppose to be fixed on versas up to 2010 but is reaccurring. wonder how many people have to die before recall? this happened on a main highway while going 60mph . dealership can't get it to happen but if you read it happens a lot

I brought my car(used) in november 2013, within 6 months june 2014 i had to get a new transmission. fast forward 3 years later, while driving on the freeway my check engine light came on. so i took my vehicle to the car dealership and to my surprise they said i needed a new transmission. since my warranty had expire i was quoted $4,000 to replace my transmission. so i contacted nissan consumer affairs to see if they could provide some type of assistance and they stated their was nothing they could do. i'm not a mechanic but a transmission shouldn't be going out every 50,000 miles.

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 nissan versa. while driving various speeds, the vehicle would not immediately accelerate when depressing the accelerator pedal. the failure was also present when attempting to accelerate from a stationary position. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, but the cause of the failure could not be determined. the local dealer (filsbee nissan in filsbee, tx) and the manufacturer were both notified of the failure. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the failure mileage was 87,000.

On tuesday, may 23, 2017, i was driving on us 95 northbound in las vegas. it was around 5:30 pm, so rush-hour. traffic was bumper to bumper. i was in the far left lane not even going 15 mph. traffic had started to move and as i hit the car i noticed my car had no power and my car had died! a bunch of lights came on my dashboard but the car was not overheating. i coasted over to the left emergency lane. i shut the car off, waited about 5 min and turned the car back on. all of the lights on the dashboard went off and the car did not show that it was overheating. i began to continue to drive and had no other problems from there. but my car shouldn't just die in traffic! i'm glad traffic was bumper to bumper and not crazy! if my car had died while going faster i may have been hit.

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 nissan versa. while driving 70 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the transmission failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 125,000.

I was driving on the freeway as my car came to no power engine on will not drive i had my insurance totaled the car to the nearest dealer the dealer tells me i need a new transmission i don't have $4,000 for a new transmission!

I was travelling on a highway out of town when suddenly my car begin to slow down and would not accelerate passed 40mph and making a strange noise. finally able to get it off the highway, i turned off the car. located a nissan dealer and drove the car there. at first the car seemed to be once again normal, but again unable to accelerate at all passed 40mph. dealer is stating that transmission is completely gone! i purchased the car brand new on 2/12/2013. now 3 years later the transmission is gone?? the dealership wanted to charge 5000.00 to fix it, but lowered the price to 1800.00. it's 6000 miles passed the warranty and now what? i need nissan usa to be responsible for the transmission defect.

I have a 2012 nissan versa sv with a cvt transmission in it. at about 110000 miles the transmission started slipping. it was recommended that we do a drain and fill on the transmission, that was done car made it 5 miles and transmission went completely out. the dealership mentioned to my wife this has a 50/50 chance of working. on their statement they posted that it needed a 4000 transmission before she left the lot with it. i have done a lot of reading on these cvt transmissions and they are notorious for issues all the way up until 2010 they even extended the warranty to 10 years 120,000 miles, nissan does not want to stand behind this they have offered us 750.00 on a known defect with these transmissions.

The transmission failed in my 2012 nissan versa with only 125k miles on it.

I bought recently 2012 nissan versa car with their cvt transmission. not even after 6 months of using the car, it completely went out. the dealership offered to replace it for $4300, which is about the same as market value of the car. after reading more online, i found out that this is really common issue and this transmissions go out very often. on top of that they can't be rebuild. nissan is aware of their faulty transmissions and they had recalls on different models, but are still avoiding on this one. they also have some software issue, that can cause problems with pressure when changing gears between d and l. we were about to get the advised updated last saturday, unfortunately the car didn't make it. the official letter states that it could lower the durability of the transmission, they didn't want to admit it on the phone. my case was evaluated by summer, from hq and got notified by her that nissan, won't help in any way.

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 nissan versa. the contact stated that the transmission gears were slipping and there was an abnormal noise. the dealer was notified of the failure and informed the contact to schedule an appointment. the dealer and manufacturer indicated that the vehicle was excluded from nhtsa campaign number: 12v032000 (power train). the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 117,000.

Takata recall my vehicle stopped when it was in motion in the middle of traffic. the engine light turned on and i barely made it to the side of the street.

About 6 months after purchasing the versa in 2012 i felt hesitation and slippage in the transmission. within 2 years of the purchase i brought this problem to the attention of the service department while the transmission was still under warranty. i was told each time that they couldn't find anything wrong. now at 85,000 miles i again took the versa to the dealership with the same complaint, but now worse, and was told that the transmission was shot and they couldn't do anything since it was now out of warranty. while in motion the transmission hesitates. surges, slips, and bucks.

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 nissan versa. while the contact's grandson was driving 30 mph, the vehicle stalled. the contact was unaware if any warning indicators were illuminated. the vehicle was towed to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the transmission needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the contact was informed by the dealer that the vehicle was previously serviced per a transmission recall. the contact could not provide the nhtsa campaign number. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 115,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 nissan versa. while driving various speeds, the engine rpms increased, but the vehicle failed to accelerate. the dealer diagnosed that the transmission needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 81,000.

Cvt transmission failed at 83,300 miles. nissan dealership (corona) changed out transmission and stated new transmission has a warranty of only 12 months/12.000 miles. unacceptable the costs of maintaining nissan cvt transmission surpasses better/more expensive vehicles by other produced by companies.

My son was driving down interstate 65 near white house, tennessee (at night), and the rpm gauge pegged out; but he could not maintain speed. he pulled over to the side of the road and could go no more than 3 or 4 miles an hour and the car was making noises. we had it towed to the dealer where they told us the transmission needed replacement. the car has about 72,000 miles and the warranty expired at 60,000. they said some kind of sensor failed. this was an expensive repair since the entire transmission had to be replaced. it seems really dangerous for a vehicle sensor to disable the vehicle, especially on the interstate. i feel like nissan should have fixed this problem for us even though it was out of warranty. it is a safety issue and needs to be investigated. *tr

Cvt transmission failed in the middle of the highway just after warranty expired with 63700 miles. this car is dangerious nissan refused to do anything has car towed to them and called nissan corperate and they refused to do anything when there cvt problem has not been corected and still failing on the new cars. car died in the middled of the road i was lucky i was not killed these cars are dangerious !!!

Letter from senator markey on behalf of constituent re 2012 nissan versa front coil springs recall. *smd the consumer stated the front coil springs had rotted out. also, the torque seal on the transmission needed to be replaced. *jb

Shifter is very tight. will not go into gear unless using two hands to pull the shifter down.

My car has been acting like it wouldn't shift when i accelerate on a hill. it jerks and the rpms spike up and down but no increase in speed. my mechanic is telling me that this is an accelerator cable issue and that part is over $700. i have done some research and found many 2012 versas with the exact same issue, some have even stalled while on a highway. why is nissan not doing something about this? i tried to pull out at a red light and even though i depressed the gas pedal, my car did not move, the rpms did not change. after a few minutes, i was able to get it off the street into a parking lot. a day later, it did it again.
